I finally got around to reading this series. Goddamn, I love it. I sort of spoiled it for myself though, a year or so ago I couldn't get my hands on anything but the third and I can't help but regret reading it then.

The Starks are the fucking best (but Tyrion is great too). Spoiler tags, please.

Well they did that first before it was reforged and then when Tywin came to King's Landing he was all hissy and fumey about the Lannisters being the only great house to not have a Valerian steel sword anymore (it was lost with an ancestor who sailed away) so he had Ice melted and reforged into two swords with black and red metal for vanity's sake instead of the pure, utilitarian steel Ice and the Starks had. One was for Joffrey, who thankfully died before he ever really used it, and the other was for Jaime who had become awesome by then so he named it Oathkeeper and gave it to Breanne of Tarth to help her fulfill her oath to Katelyn Stark.

Yeah, I forgot all of that. Time to reread I guess. Also, seconding Askal, that shit is unforgivable.

How to get out of the friend zone
Or how I learned the lengths men will go to have sex

================

So, you're in love with one of your friends, but she has a boyfriend and probably wouldn't have sex with you anyway.

What you will need: 1 x knife, 1 x ring, access to a sunbed, the ability to grow a beard.

Step One: Place the ring on your wedding finger and avoid contact with your friend for a month.

Step Two: Stop shaving and use the sunbed to gain a tan.

Step Three: After a month when your beard is full and your tan is noticeable, remove the ring from your finger.

Have you ever read actual good fanfiction? By that I mean stuff that should actually, genuinely be published and established as the main continuity?

Naruto: Team 8 http://www.fanfiction.net/s/2731239/1/Team_8
A very well-done fic of what would have happened if Naruto was selected for Kurenai's team instead of Kakashi's. It's actually really deep and gets into the characters so well you'll start wishing that's how they were in the actual story.

Bleach: Uninvited Guests http://www.fanfiction.net/s/3505858/1/Uninvited_Guests
Basically, Kenpachi and his squad burn their barracks and move in with Toshiro and his squad. Things kind of snowball into one gigantic hilarious mess that winds up involving pretty much every main character in the show. Expect plenty of jokes about the Bleach canon and the inconsistencies therein.

I tried looking at a few of the bad reviews for Discworld books, but most of them were either complaints about the audiobook or they fell to the Final Fantasy "This one isn't my favorite of the series so it sucks" syndrome. Nothing all that rageworthy.

To answer your first question: you don't have to read all of the books in the order that they were published, but there are some that focus on specific characters and can be considered "sub-series." It's best to read the books within such sub-series in order. Have this chart >>3027 it doesn't include the most recent books, but other than that it's pretty comprehensive.

To answer your second question: it picks up on The Colour of Magic's cliffhanger ending. Really, the first two books are only necessary if you want to read the other Rincewind-centric books, which are pretty fun but maybe not as substantive as the ones about the Watch or the witches.

A lot of authors these days just aren't well known to generations. Some authors became obscure within just 10 years of their work, and most just vanished into library shelves.

With that in mind, what are the authors you fear will be forgotten?

Pic related, it's Sara Teasdale. A poet who garnered most attention with her love poems~, her worker rivaled other contemporary poets of her time in it's elegant, beautiful mannerisms and subtle notes.
She wrote some good stuff you guys.

I found her rummaging through a library in New Mexico, under a cramped corner stack of musty old poem logs. Her book, A Tree of Night, was one of the most pleasing surprises I've encountered, and I realized that most people will never know of madame' Teasdale. She was never quite renown in her own time, and her work hasn't garnered any substantial representation elsewhere. This is a shame.

No.4708
C. L. Moore. She's basically the mother of the sword-wielding warrior woman in modern fantasy, yet I only heard of her thanks to a recent publication of her stories about Jirel of Joiry, titled Black God's Kiss. It's one of my absolute favorite reads, yet I might never have heard of her.

Whether do to language barriers, rarity, prohibitive price, etc.

I'd be quite interested in reading Alraune by Hanns Heinz Ewers. It's not impossible to find, but it's usually a tad out of my price range. Copies in the original German seem to be less expensive on average, but I can scarcely say more than "Good morning" in that language.

Another I'd like to read is the Dictionnaire Infernal. Until recently, it was nigh impossible to find the book, but a recent French edition has made the book available at a modest price. Again though, language is a barrier.
