This is the 51st thread about Andrew Hussie's MS Paint Adventures: Homestuck. The previous thread can be found at >>92248We also have an IRC channel: #bluhbluh at irc.esper.net
Replying to the last thread, even though somebody else already posted something close to my idea:>>93046>>93051I hope it's all of these combined. Remember, they have access to a device that can combine any two objects. I'm imagining something like the freezer experiment from Ed, Edd, and Eddy, with stitches everywhere and cueballs for eyes. And bits of Dreambot Jade making it a cyborg. Like if Frankencastle was a furry. It will be beautiful.>>92998Awww, thanks!

Ugh fine here. I was trying to put this on pastebin but it refuses to take it for whatever reason so I used Google Docs instead, hopefully that works.https://docs.google.com/View?id=dgv9xcjq_161grdj3rccEveryone is on a Bad Future roll so I decided to play with Aradia's POV. Enjoy. Writing while drunk is fun. Probably lots of mistakes.
>>93095How can this get so much better each time you post something new.this crossover is like the best mash-up ever
>>93104... I never made the mashup/crossover connection before.huh
From a certain point of view, I agree that Vriska is the "best" troll. People carry on long conversations about how great/awful she is, and only a negligible amount don't have some sort of strong reaction towards her. Whether you like her or not, she clearly had the biggest impact on the fanbase, which I believe is the best way to objectively measure the effectiveness of a character. Compare Nepeta, who gets reactions of "so cute :33 <3" to "pretty annoying." Can't really compare to "Awesome badass lol u mad" to "IRREDEEMABLE BITCH WHORE" to "Awww that's so sad :(" Actually I don't think anybody can compete with "IRREDEEMABLE BITCH WHORE" Maybe Jack around Descend.
>>93103and then aradia was a witch

>>93116I was THE MOPING-ESTActually, I just really wanted Jack not to be complete monster because his character is hilarious to me. He's just such an absolute whiny baby asshole but then it was like "dude you killed all these random people that was a dick move we're not friends anymore".
So I guess now we know what boondollars are used for.
Andrew confirmes: We are currently in a situation similar to A NOUN IS VERBED. A NOUN, VERBED after descend, which hopefully means we are switching to somewhere else in a few days. I am so excited I can't even be bother to find a reaction image.

Oh god. I CAN FEEL IT. THE TRANSITION.
Wow wow this implies a bunch of implications about people and plots which I am going to ignore because it's 1 AM for me.
Oh man, I just realized that the Aradiabot army taking the brunt of the Black King's psychic attacks might be a parallel to the courtesan angel/anti-angel army aggressing DMK.
guys, update
Also look: Vriska has her eye(s) back. Pretty clearly implies that Aradia killed her and she's using her dreamself.
So I guess Vriska did die somewhere between the smackdown on LOMAT and the final battle.Only saying that because she has her 8 eyes in the update.
>>93135>>93136We're already discussing it numbnuts
>>93137>>93138Maybe. Or she lived and just decided to switch places with her dream self like everyone was saying she and Tavros should do.
>>93139My nuts aren't numb! I can feel them perfectly well, thank you very much!
>>93129It's not Bec. Or at least, it's not just Bec. Remember, in the Trolls' prior harassment of the Kids, they made the claim that the Kids lost and then did whatever they did to fuck everything up. Whatever this is, it's somehow a consequence of a choice the Kids made in an attempt to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat. Which means that if Bec is involved, it's at the Kids' urging and not out of some heartrendingly arbitrary betrayal.
Haw, Vriska sneaks into yet another panel after people were complaining about her stealing paneltime from the others.
>>93142Woah easy. I was only implying that Bec caused the scratch in whichever way, instead of Doc. No idea how but it came from the kid's side. Might even be a Bec-powered Jack doing it.
>>93145Sorry. A lot of that was really just me thinking out loud, to be honest. No hard feelings, I hope?
>>93134>Aradia's two blood colors: red and blue
>>93137 >>93138One the one hand I'm sad because it means she died.On the other hand, everyone died at one point and they're all more-or-less fine now, so I guess I'm not too bothered. On the other other hand, It's kind of funny that Aradia ended up doing Vriska a favor, by giving her a way to get her vision eight-fold back. And it looks like we've finally reached a point where a whole bunch of important stuff will finally come together and we'll hopefully get some queries resolved. Though I really want some flashbacks at some point to fill in the blanks regarding the trolls' session as well as all their interpersonal nonsense. No, I'm not sick of it yet. Hussie has turned me into an addict, and I could take a lot more of this before I OD.
I wish we had gotten to see a few of the missing pieces of the trolls' session that didn't get shown. Eridan's land, Karkat creating clone grubs, how Fef/Eridan's lususes died, etcOf course we'll see more of the trolls so it's possible that a lot of things will get cleared up via explanation, such as the missing titles, but who knows if we'll actually get to see any more of what happened in the trolls' session.
Also fuck yes, Hussie you are the only person to make something you saw coming from miles away still shocking in its execution.My scanner-lender is sick ;_;
>>93137 I think thats all dreamselves and this is how they all die.
>>93143>stealing paneltime>the THIEF of light
>>93159Why is Tavros in his rocket car then
>>93161i duno stop pokeing holes in my theory!
Fuck you Aradia. FUUUUUUUUCK YOUUUUUUUU!x8Oh and hey Scratch
>>93160One could say she stole the spotlight.
Maybe her normal self didn't die, she's just using her dreamself for vision eightfold and normal arm. And flying? Can troll dreamselves fly, besides Sollux that is?
>>93166Well you could. If you're stupid.Think I'm going to say something goofy here?I'm not. That would be stupid.
>>93169It's also pointless because a dream self waking up is supposed to be something meaningful, not just wake up just so it goes off to replace you in the next minute. Sollux is an exception because he had two.
>>93173I dunno, it seems pretty logical to me for the trolls to have opted to use their "extra" lives for the boss fight in case something goes horribly wrong.
>someone at /co/ posts my post about the troll rankings I posted from the forums>I'm posting about someone at /co/ posting about me posting something someone posted on the forumsOh god homestuck is leaking into the real world
>>93166Also our hearts.Something from the Homestuck wiki entry for her caught my attention: "Most likely, Aradia would have killed Vriska if Tavros hadn't stopped her before she struck the final blow." So, it might still be that she survived all that. Ultimately it seems a moot point since they all die at least once anyway, but yeah.
>>93176The wiki is terrible and always wrong.
>>93176Except Tavros didn't do jackshit like alwaysRemember Sollux, when he died? His dream-self woke up right after.
>>93173Is it really supposed to be a significant, spiritual awakening? Jade told Rose that she needed to get to the root of her subconscious troubles and discover her purpose in order to wake up, but players keep finding ways of waking their dream selves without involving any meaningful self-confrontation.Like yeah, Sollux had two dream selves, but neither awakening was a paradigm shift for him. His friend snapped her fingers and put him to sleep, and then he died and had his second dream self smooched awake by a princess.Rose had a lot of trouble waking up in the Bad End timeline, but that just meant that she was able to avoid it all when the timeline was destroyed and her future dream self went back in time and merged with Rose's dream self in the main timeline. Dave was bonked on the head with a ball of yarn to snap him out of his pseudo-awakened state. John woke up when Prospit's moon crashed into the Skaian battlefield. There don't seem to be any rigorous requirements for someone to wake up.It's late and I'm not sure where I'm going with this.
>>93178He did what he does best; look visibly dismayed. Which might have been enough to stop Aradia.Though like I said, moot point since everyone dies once anyway.>>93179I get what you mean. Early on it did seem like it was supposed to be this big deal involving some sort of self-revelation, but as the story's gone on it's become seemingly less profound and just a way for players to get a second chance.
>>93088basically this 100 times over
I assume the final group of troll that make it through to the post-game veil where they troll the kids is a mix of both normal- and dream-selves. Like Dream Sollux, Real Tavros, Dream Vriska, etc, etc.Would I be stupid for thinking this? I read a lot of posts where people assume all the trolls are either one or the other (dreams or reals) and I JUST DON'T KNOW :(
>>93188Nope. Tavros has jelly-legs and Vriska has eight eyes, so they're probably all not one way or another.
>vriska the best troll>not karkatludicrousI'm in a nest of madmen
I can't wait till we get back to Jade. being Captain Obvious here but it's pretty easy to see she could be the one that fucks things up so bad, or at least has to do with it.I don't think she'd prototype Bec though, that seems sort of mean. she loves her animals, and Bec is still alive and kicking. since he has such hax powers he probably just follows her around.
>>93196It's you who is the madman, for not appreciating the Queen of Trolls>>93103Also why did nobody notice this fic, it is totally awesome
I'm interested in knowing how a scratch is an ordinary and even potentially beneficial part of the game that is actually recognised inside it. Hell what it even actually IS.See I had been working with the idea that the Rift was this interdimensional temporal clusterfuck where all bets are off and amongst the massive swaths of destruction and oblivion, the potential to redirect destiny and change a universal timeline that was otherwise unchangeable exists. A one time thing that would highlight the story's themes of fate and free will by throwing all the "inevitability" out the window and putting the future in the hands of those willing to make it. That all references to inevitable failure and destruction were simply referring to this entity that simply could not be perceived, but which all believed to be oblivion. But now it's this ordinary built-in game mechanic that even Aradia establishes as not the "Great Undoing" itself, but simply its facilitator. We don't even know if it's breaking rules by crossing sessions, since we don't even know what it's exact nature is.That was my current running hope for an ultimately happy ending. As of now, everything's been thrown in the air again.
Maybe Rifts are like the console window of Sburb; they let you step outside the game, maybe change conditions around (pretty much everything Bec does), or switch to a different map (session),.And maybe the rift that messed with the trolls isn't the Great Rift, just a rift. Maybe the Great Rift is whatever lets Lord English into the session (because there's no way this isn't going to end with them beating him).
>>93202Yeah I think Lord English as the ultimate antagonist of the story is likely at this point, but I think he would definitely have ties to sburb itself. As accepting as this fictional world is with certain abstract stuff like Fetch Modi and so forth, there's too much outside evidence to suggest that the transdimensional game itself doesn't have origins and purposes in the "real" world to which Lord English is presumably connected and by extension not only Doc Scratch but ALL First Guardians.I mean, the idea of a "First Guardian", a planet's designated "god" if you will, is something that perhaps is easily accepted in such high fantasy scenarios. Like when the Doc Scratch pages came out, everyone was like "oh so that's where Bec came from, mystery solved". But nothing is ever that simple in Homestuck. Their very existence is yet another unanswered question.I mean looking back it's pretty remarkable how little we still know about the story.
>>93138Her real self could still be alive, maybe she's just using her dreamself to progress. If she's not dead now though, she's probably going to be in a few minutes...Tavros did say all their dreamselves died at some point.
>>93197Wait, we just saw Bec created earlier in the story by DD...And Kid!Bec is still at large in the present. What if the scratch is caused by a temporal paradox? If someone destroys Kid!Bec before he gets sent back into the past to become Earth's guardian...
>>93205>If she's not dead now though, she's probably going to be in a few minutes...Tavros did say all their dreamselves died at some point.Leaving Vriska a drooling prisoner in her broken realbody. Unless that sweet diceroll healed her.
>Unless that sweet diceroll healed her.In my mind, the named result of rolling 8x8x8x8x8x8x8x8 is nothing less than 'A Miracle.'
And now, because I'm a fucking dork, I have figured out what Pokemon each of the four kids would have if they were Pokemon trainers: John Gengar Mr. Mime Gligar Slowpoke Wobbuffet Metagross Rose Kadabra Tentacruel Spiritomb Ponyta Delcatty Absol Dave Honchcrow Scizor Charizard Shuppet Salamence Gyarados Jade Luvdisc Bunneary Skitty Chikorita Diglett Arceus
>>93103>>93198Agreeing about this fanfic, it's the best thing I've seen written about Homestuck because it underlines something that *did* happen, *must have* happened in the story, but something that would be easy to overlook or not realize. So easy the characters themselves probably won't realize the magnitude of what's happened. Were I an artist, and I am most certainly not, I would draw the scene of karkat being the last to die, cradling Terezi, screaming how it can't end like this. A sky only half-full of Aradias behind him, the only words being their consensus "Not enough".
Reposting from the romart thread :3>>93103This is excellent. Aradia really doesn't get much attention and even then, her characterization tends to be very shallow. I guess most people find her boring. But hey, how else could one respond to being fully aware their entire life is basically a tool in the hands of greater forces? What I think most people don't realize is that she has always had a hand in the course of events. She had to do the things she did because they had to happen. But they had to happen not only because that was what the voices dictated but because she couldn't give up on a slim chance of a semi-happy ending for her friends. A determination she's evidently kept through some truly unbelievable shit. That really shows through here but in the same quiet and resigned manner she's shown throughout the story instead of in an overly dramatic way most fanfiction writers fall victim to. Props.
>>93219That picture would feature the Saddest Rainbow Ever. All the times people drew the full lineup of trolls as their colours, picture that only now it's twelve curled up corpses in colourful smears.
>>93221Manly Little bitch tears ; -;
>>93218I agree with basically everything.Did you pick Kadabra instead of Alakazam because of its looks? I think I see where you're coming from. Also, you can probably swap Chikorita with Sunflora, but it's a good choice nonetheless.
>>93103>>93219>>93220>>93221>>93223I both love this and hate this because it makes me so sad. ;__;
>>93153This is so late but Vriska was the one who struck the final blow. They couldn't have defeated the King if she hadn't rolled that 8^8 die or whatever.Vriska's right eye is lucky.Aradia didn't kill her for revenge, she killed her because Vriska needed that eye for her dice to land that final hit.
>>93229>Vriska's right eye is lucky.uhwhat? Her bad luck was her own stupid fault (e.g. leaving crap around her room to step on and blaming her luck instead of cleaning up) and Doc Scratch's (somehow; he seemed to be punishing her for hording his magic cue ball).
>>93229Go away, M. Night.
>>93179I always thought that Vriska was always mentally troubled (even more so than normal) from the fact that Aradia didn't care that she killed her early on in Hivebent.Vriska always wanted her to take some action, but she didn't so that made her really mad as if even if she killed someone she wouldn't get the attention she wanted. She would basically be left alone. And when Aradia got all her memories and emotions back, she made sure she confronted Vriska about her actions. Even when Vriska was getting thrown around like a rag doll, in my mind, I would think she felt a little closure when Aradia responded to her in that horribly negative way. Because it meant that she actually felt one way or another about the whole situation. Aradia wasn't 0k with it anym0re. That's what Vriska wanted to see.Plus, isn't that like all trolls? They try to garner hate by saying or doing inflammatory things. But if you ignore them, it's likely they'll just get upset over the fact you're not getting upset.Hahaha! Troll logic.
>>93250It's probably wrong to say they've buried the hatchet, but there does seem to be a certain amount of ground covered between the two of them at this point. Cooperation and perhaps even future reconciliation are not impossible.Actually, I got the impression that in true narrative arc fashion the trolls had 'resolved' their interpersonal disputes just in time for their big action climax against the Black King where they have to work together. But then, like any good sequel, in the post game their supposed happily-ever-afters all fall apart and the issues reveal themselves unresolved. So things between Vriska and Aradia might be stable at the point that the game ends (perhaps thinking themselves 'even'), but it won't be until this post-game world where they'll actually resolve their differences.
Rereading it made me realise how much I miss the kids. >>93292This is good. I am in need of happy after these rather gloomy updates. Aradia, you are such a downer.>>93302I dunno, I think it's an even firmer platform for returning to the kids. We're up to the current state of the trolls, drifting on a dead rock through a void.Right now I'm feeling conflicted. I miss the kids a lot, but I'm sad to be leaving the trolls while there's still so much left unresolved.>>93307Anyone else find it morbidly comical how disinterested she seems about being killed horribly?
>>93318Just you wait. There will be more reach around shenanigans and the two groups will unite.
OK so, trying to parse this.1) Kids create a scratch in their session which also affects the fabric of the troll session.2) Said scratch is positioned - in the troll session - at the center of Skaia, and somehow forces Lord English to reveal himself - whether this is a premature summoning or simply "blowing his cover" is unknown.3) Lord English proceeds to decimate the Trolls, apparently having been thrown off by this turn of events. The trolls retreat from Skaia to the Veil, and English presumably proceeds to end the timeline of their incipisphere several hours later. So in other words, whatever the kids did, whether purposefully or not, screwed up English's plan in a bad way. And unless the semi-highlighted conversation is deliberately misleading, Doc Scratch somehow considers the situation to be "not his problem", which means either that this English is not "his" English (again, the most likely interpretation), or that he is assuming the whole escapade was intentional. Not really any point to this post, I guess. Just getting my thoughts together and double-checking that I didn't miss something obvious.

>>93453I've been thinking about what to prototype and it is a challenge. For communication my dead uncle seems like a natural choice - he was always a reasonable man, very honest and direct. Not an ideal choice since he will likely be forced to couch everything in sprite-speak anyway, but not bad.Similarly hard to think of a weakness to impart. I thought a simple piece of white paper might make everyone more vulnerable (particularly to fire and water). Possibly a satchel of gunpowder, even, to make them explosive (although I may come to regret that). Materials are not a guarateed solution, since any material in sufficient density becomes resistant to attack and there's no way to control the quantity available to an enemy.I've been trying to think of finding a way to impart blindness or being crippled as well. Perhaps prototyping a mouse with his eyes plucked out and paws broken would work - consider that the harlequin took its mutilations with it in the sprite form.

What's bugging me is the fact that I don't know how much Sburb accepts images to make items. I think it needs at least one item to be physical, otherwise it'll just make an image combining both (duh), but even then it might reject shitty images or make a bunch of useless stuff. I mean, if your computer is still working, what stops you from printing a shitload of stuff and combine them with things laying around your house? For example, if it wasn't for the cost to alchemize them, you could probably print the image of an exoskeleton and combine it with your getup, or print an image of any ludicrously lightweight scifi rifle and combine it with an improvised spear or something. Also, I'm not sure what are the consequences of not prototyping the kernelsprite with the deceased or doomed. I guess it doesn't make much difference, but there's no way of telling if your sprite won't be an asshole and go through the trouble of finding a dead fly somewhere around the house and OOPS JUST TRIPPED into it.
>>93490Obviously all of the alchemizing is done for the sake of the comic, and it makes no god damn sense logically. The best explanation is that the game is fated to be programmed with whatever the logical combination would be of whatever you alchemized.

>>93547It's science bitches.
>>93515I'd believe it.
>>93531Damn you, you got me thinking about this.It looks like his code was to bifurcate THIS (I presume, a universe). ~ATH(!U2) looks like it was a command to "run" U2 (! can also be a negation but the syntax doesn't look it they're being compared). So if my horribly misguided speculations are correct, they'd be in the } EXECUTE (~ATH(THIS)}{EXECUTE(NULL)); line right now. This is where Earthverse executes it's function and theirs is "nulled." If that's right then the next line is Earth being rendered null and the Trollverse being "run." The last line is [THIS, THIS].DIE(); which would suggest everything ends right there if we read die in the context of death. But this being a game, I think it'd mean another roll of the d20 or with this game the way it is, d1000000000 or something.Basically what I just theorized is that Alternia and Earth are two parts of a whole and the course of their existences is for one to run while the other is unactive (void of life, I guess) and when that cycle is complete, the "die" is rolled again to run this all again with different parameters. But really, ~ATH and all the code Huss has written with it is more likely complete bullshit.
>>93558My interpretation of the code goes a little more like:1) Bifurcate THIS (the program itself) into Red!THIS and Blue!THIS2) In the red program:Call this program's universe "U1"Loop until the death of U1, then loop until the death of the blue program.3) In the blue program:Call this program's universe "U2"Loop until the death of "not U2", then loop until the death of the red program.4) Let both programs run til death. So the red loop will wait for the death of its universe, then the death of the other loop. And the blue loop will wait for the birth(?) of its universe, then the death of the other loop. The first blue condition is inside the red loop, and the second condition is outside the red loop - almost as though the program expects U2 to be born while U1 lives, which makes sense, except for the fact that the blue universe is supposedly the one that gave birth to the red one.So in order for the code to be valid - in order for it to execute at all - the nigh-omnipotent interpreter that runs this fucked-in-the-head language rearranged the two universes to be dependent on each other to have come into existence in the first place.
>>93541homestuck is about KIDS AND FUNalso i wouldn't play sburb with any of you and i have no rl friends so I would just play the single player mode or commit suicide via meteor.
Okay, so from what I understand, the reward for winning Sburb is to become a god in a new universe. The trolls were prevented from traveling to the new universe that they earned, however, because something in the kids' session caused the "scratch" to open up and unleash Lord English. The trolls were able to get away and are just laying low in the asteroid lab until their session collapses, with them inside it, since they have no hope of beating Lord English. Is this about right?
I'd play Sburb with you guys. I'd have to take my family into the game, though, and I'd expect my server to make sure they're safe.

Do you know what I've just realised?I just spent the last hour our two discussing SHIPPING.Before that, I was reading fan fiction, AND LIKING IT.And now, just a few minutes ago, I was thinking of buying a troll shirt for cosplay.cosplay. I was seriously considering cosplaying.what have you done to me, hussie?WHAT HAVE YOU DONE TO ME?!
>>93664There there, sweetheart.
>>93664A few years back, Hussie accidentally discovered the Master Key of Fandom - a subliminal override that has been programmed into the past few generations through children's TV as a means of ensuring that other subliminal messages would be received and processed. He's been carefully making use of it ever since.

Hussie has done strange things to many of us. I myself used to balk at the notion of shipping, thinking that getting so wound up over fictional romances was just silly. Now I'm hoping against hope that Kanaya x Rose comes true.>>93656That was a strange and beautiful thing I just read.
>NO, YOU ARE THE GAMECongrats, Andrew, you're Shyamalan. Can we get back to actually feeling like user input = hilarious webcomic, now?
>>93656Well, I did what I could to edit your prose and fix up the spelling and grammar mistakes from last night. Whether the story itself is salvageable is another question entirely. Your premise (Kanaya falling for Sollux after asking him to the prom so that they wouldn't have to go alone) sounds fairly reasonable if a bit cliche, but in execution you don't actually have many events to build this supposed slow realization of feelings on to. Characterization is also just about nonexistant besides a nod to Kanaya's lesbian feelings and Sollux's lisp.My reccomendation is to start over with a clear head and use what you have so far as a template. Show Sollux helping Kanaya with her math. Have them engage more in the run up to the prom. Maybe show them interacting with other trolls to get their takes on it. Have any realization of feelings be gradual - not in the "but could they be more?" kind of way every other line, but rather neither of them even realizing how close they could be and in fact are until the story's climax. But if you want my honest opinion, don't write it with a romantic finish. Maybe Kanaya's just a lipstick lesbian but writing fanfiction where the only gay character stops being gay doesn't sound very fulfilling except as some strange commentary on the flood of fanfiction where all the straight characters turn gay.
>>93671No one asked your opinion Kosh.
Oh man I am a jerk to me.>>93663>>93665Othar, man, never stop rocking.>>93675Oh haha thanks for being so helpful but it was never meant to be serious and, if Spleen considers my obligation to give him a laugh fulfilled, will not be finished. I suppose you didn't keep reading? I was trying to make it come off as a laughably bad fic but it just came off as a mediocre fic. I actually had intentionally forbidden myself from using the backspace key. My post up there was supposed to read:>basically I was supposed to write bad fanfic for Spleen and so i got drunk cause I thought that would facilitate the [process of writing terribly] but it didn't really but I think he lol'd anyways so i will post it now in case you lol
>>93665This doesn't really make a lot of sense. Who is he talking about? It'd make more sense if it was Sollux talking to Aradia, and it was Equius on the plane or something.

At least Overdrawn at the Memory Bank was bad enough to make fun of, but Casablanca just sits there until you walk away.Humphrey Bogart's role as a romantic lead was comparable to Robert Pattinson in Twilight.>>93671Normally I'd agree with you, on the basis that you are Kosh and are almost always right. But I feel that this update was based almost entirely on user input, that it needed to happen, and that it could hardly be called a twist.Users have been clamoring for the troll arc to end, and now it is ending. We asked to make Vriska pay. We asked to move things along. We asked that he skip to the end already, and while he expressed his disapproval for the way people were asking (through a conversation between Aradia and Droog) he gave us what we wanted.>NO, YOU ARE THE GAMEI think you missed the point. We have always been the game. We have always been shown we were the game, whether through the kids and their complex inventory systems, or through the Exiles and their terminals. Rose making an FAQ on GameFAQs concerning current events. The Pre-Medium use of the Prankster's Gambit. >>93676bawww kosh failed to suckle on hussies golden cock
>>93697I CAN BE RUDE TO WHOEVER I WANT TO BECAUSEIBETONDOOK
>>93698I don't mind that Kosh has a different opinion. I just think it's stupid to just dismiss it as a "stupid twist" when obviously it play an important part of the story. And to be honest I think all most of the "user input" can really distract from the story. It really wouldn't have hurt to hear more about the trolls instead of just skipping them. I mean even Andrew regrets the suggestion box from time to time. Anyway I probably could have posted something different and I didn't mean to derail, but it just really annoys me when people do that.
>>93696>Humphrey Bogart's role as a romantic lead was comparable to Robert Pattinson in Twilight. You are trolling. You can present your opinion in any manner, but when you compare one thing to something else that is generally reviled, you are baiting for reactions. That is trolling.
>>93671It's not user-input anymore, though. The suggestion boxes have been locked for a while and they probably aren't coming back.Which, in my opinion, is the best way to go about it. That way we avoid the six-month-long battle at the end.
Open MS Paint.Close your eyes.Draw Nepeta.Post it (You can open your eyes for this part).
>>93700Andrew is pretty vocal in his hatred for the suggestion box. Mostly because it shut down the site whenever it opened, but also because most of the suggestions are retarded and if he uses a lot of them then the story starts to slow down. Can you imagine if he was still using it nowadays? It would be like Problem Sleuth, which is to say a very simple story carried entirely by jokes. I guess that's okay in its own right but it's not the Homestuck we love.>>93675No comment on the, uh, story you were critiquing, but I really don't see a problem with shipping Kanaya with any of the guys. There's no in-story confirmation that she is exclusively into women, and I'd be totally fine with having a chaste bisexual character because you don't see many of those. I hate this gay event horizon mentality where you crush one one girl and all of a sudden you are totally gay forever and can't like any dudes.

oh my
>>93664I never had a problem with the concept of fanfiction per se, it's just that the crushing majority of people that write it come up with stuff that is dull and uninteresting (if not downright awful). I've always seen it as a waste of time because you have to brave through a lot of shit before finding something vaguely amusing, and most of the time I'm not that much of a fan to be interested in that. But if someone finds anything that is cool and inspired I have no problem reading it. I think that the fact that Hussie pushes up the standards of his own work makes more talented people feel inclined to contribute and create a thriving community, everybody likes when someone is dedicated to give quality content for free. So you eventually see fanwork that is also better and more elaborate, especially because MSPA as a thing depends heavily on the community response and was originally based on direct user input (and stayed like that for 80% of the time until it got absurd and problematic). Everything is there to persuade people into contributing. It's not a top-down webcomic with parallel communital ideas for this and that, it's a CYOA/webcomic-like hybrid that has always been a form of crazy storytelling and eventually started to gain a webcomic-like face and less of the aspect of frenetic suggestions as a natural evolution of what he intended his work to be.I think that the biggest thing Hussie managed to present to me was expanding what one understands as communital storytelling. I mean, I really love quests/CYOAs/MSPAs/whatever, but he really went through with the notion that you can add a fuckton of depth, character development, good art, clever humor and another plethora of things while receiving input from people and using it as the flesh of the bones of your plot. After Weaver, Hussie, Marty and even you Bea, I adopted the mindset that CYOAs can have music, flashes, long and interesting stories and some kind of serious worldbuilding with persistent evolution of everything that happens. I mean, I'm largely ignorant about this, I never really got into RPGs and never looked into this kind of thing, but the effort that was put by all these people made me really interested and a fan of the format. I'm actually compelled to design and make something in December because I think that this is a truly great thing. This needs more love, I know that Hussie is cynical about webcomic artists and the like, but I think that people could really create a lot of great things if they get more familiar with it.Oh, and sorry for the long post.

I AM SO CONFUSED. Please...someone explain to me why John and Karkat are now a thing? WHAT IS THIS I DON'T EVEN
>>93867Did you miss all the pre-Act 5 Karkat logs where he repeatedly stated that he hated John more than anything else in the entire universe[s]?And then the whole romance exposition that repeatedly stated hating someone more than anything else in the entire universe was a desired form of romance? And then the part where it said Karkat kept trying to explain that to John for some reason? This was canon a LOOOOOONG time ago, bro.
So, he starts off in true hatred and as John starts off (from his perspective) being friendly and making a game of countertrolling they develop a friendship. But who will be his Kismesis now?
>>93869YOU WILL
OK.... here's what I get from this.Karkat hates John with a passion. We already know this... but Karkat hates John more than he's hated anyone or any-THING ever before. He hates the relationship between a parent and child, he hates his stupid antics, and he hates his whole stupid SBURB session. To take a line from Harlan Ellison "HATE. HATE. HATE."Karkat has a kneejerk reaction to this strange new hate that's lodged deep in his heart, and he's convinced that John is his kismesis at first sight... or something. What Karkat doesn't realize that humans don't have that quadrent. To compound that, it's been said that John really warms up to Karkat (as a friend) at the end of their conversations, which means Karkat's first conversation would be infuriating, being treated all friendly-like. I think this would cause Karkat to either:A) Get turned off on the whole notion, and he kicks himself for how stupid he was beingB) Redouble his hate, thinking John is trolling him by faking being friendly, and eventually be crushed.Either way, we know that Karkat eventually becomes John's friend, and nothing more.I'm kinda rooting for B though, only becuase I want to see Terezi comforting a crying Karkat and saying "Karkat, it's hard. It's hard growing up, and nobody understands"
I know I shouldn't bring up regular /co/ over here but for some reason 4chan is stuck in some sort of timeless expanse.
>>93872the ultimate kismesis...>>93873My goodness, /co/ has entered the medium!
>>93871Oh. Well, I;m not good at hate.
>>93872Nah, Karkat is still going on about how he hates John in the first pesterlogs. His hate burns long and true forever. It probably sucks real bad to be black for someone who won't return it. 'Cause then you'd hate them even more for not reciprocating and the fury just builds and builds and never stops. At least when it's red and they break your heart and you cry for a while and then get over it instead of falling even deeper of the guy who just rejected you because he just rejected you.I guess he knows how Vriska feels now.
>>93876Yeah, I'm sure Karkat still hates him as much as he hates the rest of the trolls, but uh...http://www.mspaintadventures.com/?s=6&p=003503CG: OK I DON'T SEE HOW WE'RE SUPPOSED TO BE BECOMING FRIENDS IF YOU RECOIL FROM MY OLIVE BRANCH LIKE I'M WIGGLING A GNARLED TREE MONSTER'S DICK IN YOUR DIRECTION. http://www.mspaintadventures.com/?s=6&p=003294CG: WAIT.CG: BUT I'M NOT HERE TO TROLL YOU THIS TIME.CG: WE'RE FRIENDS OK?

does anyone know where the page when John first changed his name to ectoBiologist is? I'm having a hard time finding it in the log, but I think he was talking to Terezi.
>>93880Wut? It was in his eyes, bro.
Twice in the troll arc Earth was referred to as a "mythical paradise planet that doesn't exist yet." It's pretty clear at this point the the reward the trolls were supposed to get was to live on Earth. So Karkat sees John robbing him of the reward he fought and sacrificed for to earn. So it's a tad more complicated than Hate at First Sight, but not much.

Why does everyone seem to think that Karkat and John being kismises mean that they are being "shiped"? Its not shipping, they are just arch-enemies. Sure, John probably doesn't hate Karkat at all, but Karkat hates John with every fiber of his being. That is enough to be enemies. As for the genetic material collector, maybe its different kismises and matesprits. All I'm saying is that Karkat and John aren't being shipped, they are just polar oppisites.
>>93892i see someone's human mind cannot understand the strange and delicate tapestries that form the beautiful image of troll shipping
>>93813how u so cool?>>93856Haha, no, there's no need to feel like you owe me anything though drunken comics is always welcome. Unless I become an alcoholic after that fine brandy, then I guess you will have ruined my life!>>93859Jesus Fuck, that's great.
Male or female on either side, I always find Vriska harassing Tavros amusing. Does this make me an irredeemable bitch cunt whore?>>93859There's an .swf version for this, by the way.http://www.swfcabin.com/open/1284921655
In other news, Skepsis/Skeptic Archer continues to be awesome.
>>93892Because kismesisism (or whatever it is) is concupiscent, a sexual form of troll romance. Karkat hates John so much he wants to kiss him. That is what it is.Cue shipping explosion.
Technically, since Karkat is the one who executed the ~ath code and leaded the trolls' team, he is essentially the god of John's universe.God wants to bang John. This really puts things into perspective.
>>93897everyone drop what they're doing and look at this.
>>93892The whole point was that there was some romantic aspect to kismesitude. It wasn't just hate. It's like...like Sn0wman and Spade Slick's burning sexual tension mixed with burning loathing. Or like Vriska tormenting Tavros because she wanted his bonebulge.See these couples aren't trying to kill each other IN SPITE OF their romantic attraction, they're trying to kill each other BECAUSE of their romantic attraction. So there's a romance to the hate. That was the point of a kismesis, right? I'm not just missing the point? Man, troll romance sure is confusing.
>>93894Look At Your LifeLook At Your Choices
John and Karkat just end up being friends though, so once again Kar is without a Kismesis. It's not helping my idea that the kids will tie all the frayed ships of the trolls together.
>>93902... YESSSS MOMMM.
>>93859Just a tip: when the blast goes off, the screen should start to shake. Would make it look way more dramatic. Looked a bit strange with the blasts just...appearing.Other than that please do more please please please.
>>93903Honestly I think that everyone (like EVERYONE) will end up being Just Friends in the end and will be totally okay with it.But that would mean Equius♦Nepeta and my percieved Sollux♦Feferi will dissolve and I don't like that because I ship them as hard as you can ship moirails.
John used to like baking cakes with his dad ;_____;
>>93898 Oh, well, okay, I guess. Kinda like Vriska to Tavros? Actually, I'm not 100% sure on this myself; Vriska was looking for spade relationship with Tavros, right? Or was it matesprit?
>>93887What is it with all these conventions being so close to each other?
>>93908And then he suddenly became a shutin who scribbled all over his movie posters and avoided any and all contact with his father/half-brother.HOW DO YOU THINK THAT MADE HIM FEEL?
>>93909Vriska was blackrom for him. After the botched kiss incident she seems to be redrom for him.
UPDATION
>>93914A little slow on the trigger there, Cap'n.
>>93909Vriska had some sort of raging crush on him but she didn't know what it was, so she tried to be his kismesis first and when that didn't work out she tried to be his matesprit instead. I think it turned out to be either red or not really a crush at all.Who the fuck knows with Vriska.Karkat's version is real cut-and-dry compared to her mess.
you all noticed the frog right
>>93908That was adorable. I'm sure there's some significance in this update that went right over my head but I don't even care.
>>93908>>93912Goddammit why does my dad have to be a thousand miles away right now. I suddenly want to bake a cake with him. ;A;
John lives in Washington, fuck yeah.
>>93916Yeah, that page right after she kisses Tavros with the alternating Hearts and Spades symbols makes it clear that she just wanted any kind of attention from Tavros... But he seems unable to comply.
>>93922Argh, I really want Tavros to have a "I AM A MAN" moment, but so far I'm just not seeing any sign of one...I mean, he can't possibly stay such a passive pushover. I really hope we see his character change as time goes on...That and Gamzee actually do something Hero Mode related...
>>93921We've known his exact address since like the End of Act 2.
>>93917I guess that slice out of the.... whatever the fuck it is.... they're standing on makes it a lilly pad?
>updateHahaha! Oh, Karkat.>>93813I love that classy Kanaya, and this is a wall of fantastic.>>93859Cooooooool!>>93897YES. VERY YES.Neat use of the Libra symbol on Terezi's weapons.
I'm just now aware of how irritating it would have been for Karkat to have Terezi messing with his Kismesis.Maybe she was doing it for attention.
>>93926Yeah, it was bright green before. It looks like Skaia or something summons those platforms so the players can reach the black king.
I NEED AN ANIMATED GIF OF BABY JOHN FALLING OFF THE POGO RIDE.
>>93924Eh... I don't know, I mean speaking as someone who likes both characters, the idea of Tavros actually kissing the girl just seems kind of weird for me. I mean, this feels like one instance that Vriska definitely shouldn't get what she wanted.
>>93936I think that, if he does like Vriska back, it at the very least needs to be the final straw in her redemption. After she character develops some more. Like she needs to earn it.
Today's flash in a nutshell
>>93937You mean like how Equius earned it? Oh wait he never did and he's still a blood racist.
>>93939If you haven't noticed Aradia is fucking nuts and not at all like she was when she was alive. He didn't win the heart of the person he actually wanted. He's just so fucking happy that she likes him back that he doesn't realise it yet, but I bet you he will eventually.
>>93938hehehehehehe
>>93941I'm dislike the Tavros and Vriska pair too but I seriously doubt Andrew cares about things being "right" or "earned". He will do whatever gets a rise out of people the most, and Tavros with Vriska definitely will.
>>93946Which is just another way of letting the fandom effect things but whatever.
>>93946>>93937>>93936Ok, I guess I wasn't exactly clear, but when I brought up Tavros being manly for once, I didn't mean him directly going straight for choosing Vriska, but for him to start acting for himself. To choose who HE wants. It doesn't have to be Vriska, but it does have to be Tavros growing up to learn that he needs to assert himself in some way, however small it may be at first.
Something that I'm sure many people grasp, but which some others don't, so I'm going to bring it up.http://www.mspaintadventures.com/?s=6&p=004298>In many cases, one party will have red feelings while the other has black.Aradia's feelings for him seem mostly black, while Equius' feelings for her are mostly red. They both have strong emotions about each other, but they're not exactly on the same wavelength. So he's gotten the girl, but not in the quadrant he was aiming for. Also, that reminds me of a question I've had for a while now. What exactly is Equius' 'redeeming' quality? Andrew has said that he's tried to give all the trolls some trait that makes them likable despite their various failings, but I don't exactly see what's to like about Equius.
>>93950It's strange because I do like Equius despite him being a creepy bastard with few redeeming qualities. It's probably because we know he gets over his hatred of lowbloods and builds robot legs for Tavros, coupled with the fact that he's completely subservient to his feelings for a lowblood, despite being such an insufferable prick when it comes to status, which is endearing in it's own way.
>>93950there's absolutely nothing likable about equius as a personbut goddamn if he isn't entertaining as hell as a character
More formspring stuff. It's really neat reading about the whole "creation myth" being one of the core concepts.
Somebody was asking for Bro arts a while back? I just found this.
Equius takes care of Nepeta and tries to keep her out of harm, despite how rediculous she is. that is his endearing quality.
>>93962Yeah, but it makes it seem pretty unlikely that the kids will end up 'beating' sBurb after all.
http://www.mspaintadventures.com/?s=6&p=003910>CG: ACTUALLY YOU KNOW WHAT WILL BE THE MIRACLE TO END ALL MIRACLES?>CG: IT'LL BE IF I EVER MEET A KID I DESPISE MORE THAN YOU.>CG: THAT WILL MAKE ME A MOTHERFUCKIN CONVERT.>CG: I'LL SEE LIGHT SO BRIGHT I'LL NEED GC TO WALK ME AROUND SO I DON'T BUMP INTO SHIT. Seeing John again made me so happy, I got a lump in my squawk blister. I fucking love that adorable little guy.
So I just had a thought. You know how the trolls created our universe and their desires kind of sort of maybe influenced how Earth developed? And that presumably their planet was created by the players who created the universe before them?Imagine what a terrible shithole those other players must have lived in if Alternia is what they imagined as a mythical paradise planet. I mean, wow.
>>93967If by "takes care of" you mean "keeps away from her friends due to classism."
>>93963omg yes>>93966YES
>This flash-updateDawwwwwwwwwwwww, that's was so cute, wait a moment, there's something i don't understand. Wasn't Karkat trolling John backwards in time? So Karkat start thinking of John as his Kismesis and then he become his friend and then, when John was a little kid, Karkat started hating him again????...I HATE TIME TRAVEL, I HATE TIME TRAVEL, I HATE TIME TRAVEL!!!
>>93813Wow, didn't notice this one at first. I love it, i really love it. Would Terezi be Jolyne? And who will be Dio???
>>93971Given how dangerous all of the trolls are to each other it doesn't seem so bad. He sees himself as a sort of protective figure, "Hey don't go sitting with the weird kids at lunch", etc., when in reality he's going "Don't sit with those poor kids, they're lazy and need to pull themselves up by their bootstraps--obviously they're worthless trash because they want to be".It's pretty obvious that his class-ism is a direct result of his insecurities. Doesn't excuse it, though. By the time they get around to confronting the Black King it seems like he's gotten over it enough to both stop controlling Nepeta's social life and start being kind low-bloods.I think ultimately Equius is one of those guys who does the right thing for the wrong reasons.
>>93973He's trolling him in reverse, not necessarily watching his story in reverse.
> Andrew's formspring: I didn't want to get too carried away with this idea, and just make the "Dave version" of the trolls, and so on. So I drew similarities at times, and exaggerated differences at others, hoping to strike a balance. So there are definite parallels between the kids and all the trolls. Most of them are pretty easy to see; Eridan is Dave and Rose, Kanaya is Rose and Jade, Karkat and Gamzee are inversions of John, etc. But who do Equius and Vriska represent? This is completely arbitrary and stupid and I thought this discussion of parallels was over and done with months ago but now it's not because it's going to bother me now.>>93973I'm pretty sure he watched that, fell in hate, and then went to the end of John's timeline to start trolling him from there.
>>93970Now be fair, it's also entirely possible that the previous players were psychopaths to whom Alternia would seem like a paradise, filled with danger and bloodshed, their own personal hell to rule over with an iron fist....Wait, that's much worse isn't it?
>>93970Or maybe their planet was so peaceful and perfectly boring that they wanted something with a little more intrigue and danger.
>>93977I think it's more complex than that. We see several trolls in each kid. I even see a bit of Vriska in Jade, aside from the obvious parallels like cueballs and black oracles.
>>93977Equius - Dave and BroVriska - Rose, Dave, and JadeAlthough these include both the traits that they share and the exaggerated differences.
>>93980Well, they are technically gods of that universe. Maybe they just find their pawns more entertaining when there's strife grief?
>This was actually my line of thinking in writing Rose's wizardfic. If you sift through that dense excerpt, you find it's about 12 evil kids who played a role in influencing every dark event in history. My intent was that this was her subconsciously echoing the creation story of her own universe.
>>93859thiis iis so amaziing
>>93921FuckYes.
>>93977I think the parallels are there for a lot of the same reasons the re-used art is. From the start of Hivebent, they've acted as visual and emotional cues that tied these strange new kids to _our_ kids, and act as a kind of superfast primer for getting to know them. This, along with the new layer retroactive knowledge of the creation myth, fits perfectly with the pace and purpose of Hivebent. This also makes everything in the Homestuck universe retroactively evoke this universe's creators in little ways. Magic wands and wizards, ICP, Feferi's ambitions for a relatively peaceable race...I keep thinking of the glint in Sollux's glasses and the glint in Dave's when we first meet both characters. It's a nod to us: this is a cool guy. Now we know a universe reflected in lenses means something new and stunning altogether, but at the start it was just a method of characterization.
>>93970So you haven't figured out Alternia was created by the kids? HUH.
>>93984>you find it's about 12 evil kids who played a role in influencing every dark event in historyFucking FINALLY, some cliff's notes. I knew vaguely that the 12 wizard kids had SOMETHING to do with the trolls, but I couldn't penetrate that perfumey purple drivel.
>This thread.I'm back from a "comic festival" that ended in a complete disappointment for me.And you guys and, last update and >>/draw/36164 just made my hole night.I love you all. :3>>93859>>93897>>93856>>93813GLORIOUSKudos on Vriska/Gyro and Tavros Johnny Andrei.
>>93989To be fair, she hadn't finished it yet.
>>93977For some reason Equius is inexorably linked with John in my head. I'm not sure why. Equius's super strength? His resemblance to Cameron Poe? The square glasses and the kissyface he makes when rhapsodizing about Aradiabot?
Someone asked for a vriska x tavros artdump a while ago. NSFW pictures are just mixed in there with the safe ones and there's probably a bunch that have been posted but I didn't get to because I stopped giving a fuck. In fact, I think the majority are NSFW. OH WELL~http://askal.imgur.com/vriska_x_tavros_artdump
>>93872he trolls backwards through time so john will actually hate him by the time karkat is done
in my brain vriska learned to be less evil and molesty and is now diamond friends with tavros
>>93950his redeeming quality is that same one every character has had since jailbreak.being funny as fuck.SO STRONG!STRONG POST!
>>93995>My art's in thereI like how you knew it was Tavros without me ever indicating it was him. <3

>>94001Please, who else is manly enough to have that trail? I guess Equius could, but I think he's the kinda guy who manscapes.
>>93995"You kids and your crazy games. I hope not too many of you were raped in all this commotion!"wut?
>>94011Troll of the Flies.
babby john is cute.So this was kind of a ten-ton reveal that Sburb is the means by which universes procreate. I wonder if we'll learn how that came to be and if it's tied to English, First Guardians or whatever.
>>94013I thought the little boys in that story just killed each other.I didn't know that they...oh...oh ew...
>>94016iirc they didn't, but the dude who showed up to save them in the end was basically like "I hope you didn't kill anybody." and they were like "Oh yeah our bad."
>>94017yeah that
>>94019I can't not notice how Tavros is speaking with Gamzee's quirk.
>>94020Oh god... It is killing me how cute this is.Like it is literally taking a knife to my chest in its unbearable cuteness.
>>94023Oh dang I didn't even notice that.
