I feel like Bayonetta tried to have its cake and eat it, while failing miserably. For me it was a game with some good game mechanics, but awful in all other aspects. I somewhat get what they were trying to do but it was horribly executed in my opinion, it was never funny nor charming. Despite trying claim that they were parodying sexual characters in games, they pretty much relied on it the same techniques of Team Ninja. I know that they guy who did Devil May Cry also worked on Bayonetta, but it appears he ran out of style juice for this one, at least character and design wise.
So, in the end were are left with a game that has great combat, but its almost unbearable in everything else. Maybe they will have better luck in the sequel, that goes for Dante's Inferno as well.

I don't think you've ever seen all the expanded stuff like the picture dramas. Or the show itself really.

The reason you see /v/'s overall opinion change is because, after the game's been out for awhile, the trolls can come out to play. For the most part, it's not so much that individual player's opinion of the game change as much as it is that after all has been said and done and fans move on to other things, people who either had more negative opinions or just want to be trolls are able to get their voice out there.

I spoke to Duty and got the job to steal some Freedom gear and instead told the leader of Freedom about it. He immediately gives you a mission where you go with some Freedom Stalkers to take out a group of Duty in their territory.

If you align yourself with Freedom, the Duty members at the bar will shoot at you without provocation. :I

SPOILERS AHEAD:

Early in the game you'll raid the ranger station in Zaton and find a PDA in one of the corpses. It was of a Dutyer named Morgan that was selling weapons to Bandits and Freedomers.

You need to give that to Freedom in order to initiate a small confrontation with Duty over their armories.

You suceed that mission, and you are already on friend status with the faction. But you're not enemies with Duty yet (that requires doing more task in favor of Freedom that ultimately completely undermine Duty's standing within Yanov and earns you their hate).

If you don't have that PDA because you get it very early in the game and it seems like useless weight on your inventory so you got rid of it and sold it to Owl, you'll need to do missions for the scientists 'till you meet the wanderer Monolith, recieve a mission to investigate an anomaly with the Svarog northwest of Yanov Station and retrieve documets from the Jupiter Plant for them that causes their merc guards to attack you.

Once all of that happens, you can give the PDA of the Duty general you found at the anomaly to a faction or have the faction guard the Scientists bunker, which might be enough for them to trust you and then they'll take in the Monolith stalkers (which you need futher down the road when going to pripyat if you want to get a full ending).

Personally, I'm partial to Duty, whose motto is to understand the zone and contain it to protect the outside world from it.

That's why I hated them. They made a key component to the gameplay something you had to buy in shops, and no gil drops meant that you basically had to farm loot to sell for it and/or do sidequests just to get the ability to fight. That's in addition to grinding to get licenses to equip spells, technics, weapons and armor. And in addition to more gil farming to actually BUY those spells, technics, weapons and armor. Which, given the difficulty of some of the sidequests, meant that for a good part of the game you could end up farming for abilities, to get the gil, to get the abilities you REALLY wanted so that you could actually go and do some plot stuff once in a blue moon.

It's artifically lengthened gameplay, and there are way better mechanics for doing it.

All the stuff he was saying about being threatened or not threatened by Chunli and the like I don't think has ever cross my mind. Does the character look badass/sexy? Are they actually fun or useful to use? That's pretty much all I use to pick a character in a game that let's me choose characters.

Then again they say there are tons of people who buy a comic based on how hot the girl on the cover is. So maybe he's right and I'm just a weirdo.

I know I'm beating a dead horse here, but SquareEnix has been pretty horrible to most of their non-Final Fantasy series(and any country that isn't Japan) for years now. Even certain Final Fantasy games(Four Warriors of Light) are being completely passed over. Hell, we probably wouldn't be getting Dragon Quest IX if Nintendo hadn't stepped in.
