We're going to start up a list of awesome (Or at least Half-Decent) games for free. Try not to just spam the list, but make some heartfelt contributions you think others will enjoy. I'll Start. WARNING: Will not be held responsible in any way for lack of sleep, missed assignments, late projects, procrastination, wasted days, late nights, early mornings, tardiness, lack of social contact, etc. Cave Story - Megaman had a baby with Metroid, and so came Cave Story. An amazing game. http://www.miraigamer.net/cavestory/ Dwarf Fortress- I Have no clue what I'm doing but fuck if it's not addicting http://www.bay12games.com/dwarves/ Star Control 2 - One of the most epic Space Games ever made. Explore the Galaxy, collect Minerals across countless planets, upgrade your ship, and save Mankind from the Ur-Quan. http://sc2.sourceforge.net/ Elona - Not quite sure how to explain it. A good rpg(?). Well worth a look. http://homepage3.nifty.com/rfish/index_e.html Marathon - A stylish Doom-Like Shooter, but with a little more bang in the buckshot. An imaginative and evocative Science-Fiction tale. Takes time to get rolling, but ends with a bang. http://source.bungie.org/ FreeCiv - A Open Source Civilization game. A basic mish-mash of all the best features. Give the game a try if you've never played the series before. Addiction 85% guaranteed. http://freeciv.wikia.com/wiki/Main_Page
http://www.asahi-net.or.jp/~cs8k-cyu/index_e.html I love this guy. Everything here, especially Torus Trooper. And Gunroar. And rRootage. Video shows those three in that order.
Warning Forever - A space shooter that's nothing but bosses. The boss evolves to take advantage of your play style depending on where you attack it from, what guns killed you, and how you're attacking. http://www18.big.or.jp/~hikoza/Prod/index_e.html Burning Sand 2 - IMO, one of the best of the "falling sand" genre. This one's still in beta, but it's got a lot of features. You need a mouse with scroll wheel and middle click. http://siebn.de/burningsand2/game/ Zen Bondage - This is a really good game to chill out and calm down with. You're given a wooden block of several different shapes, and the object is to wrap string around all of the flat surfaces. It's hard to explain - watch the video on the linked page. The people who made it's page is down, but you can grab it here: http://www.fun-motion.com/physics-games/zen-bondage/
Urban Dead: http://www.urbandead.com/ Browser-based zombie survival game I've been playing almost since it first lanched. Just as fun is the metagame aspect via its wiki, where you can influence the development of new skills, join groups (both survivor, undead, and PKer), and keep track of the city of Malton. Just watch out for /b/. http://wiki.urbandead.com/index.php/Main_Page
>>185 I tried FreeCiv a while back... I didn't really get into it. Maybe I should give it another chance...
Pandemic 2 is an awesome flash game
Nexus War - An Action-Point system MMO, set on an island with portals to five different planes, each quite substantial. There are three tiers of levels, each with three different Alignments (Unaligned, Good, and Evil), and shitloads of skills. The main focus of the game is clan combat. You can play as a loner, but large-sized factions get the benefits of a safehouse, a place to store items, and attribute bonuses. There's an honor system that mainly depends on a giant game of capture the flag with other clans - break into their base, kill all their members, and you can steal their flag. The only problem is that unless you really like playing in clans, the game easily drops into an exercise in grinding door repairs and books read. http://www.nexuswar.com/
http://www2.tky.3web.ne.jp/~yosshin/my_works/ chorensha68k, a very very good shooting game. http://akiragoya.sakura.ne.jp/game/galshell_01/ galshell: blood red skies, another shooting game, with incredible music, and really grotesque graphics.

The battle for Wesnoth http://www.wesnoth.org/ One of the better purely open source games, which i usually find suffering heavily from a lack of decent artwork. It's not a bad game too, a turn based fantasy game, rather similar to oldschool titles.

http://www.yomogi.sakura.ne.jp/~si/SolidImage/download/nomltest.zip Good little shooter.
Shit Game http://doomlaser.com/downloads/shitgame.zip
A few great games. First off is Open Transport Tycoon Deluxe. (Win, Lin, OS X) OpenTTD is a clone of the Microprose game "Transport Tycoon Deluxe", a popular game originally written by Chris Sawyer. It attempts to mimic the original game as closely as possible while extending it with new features. http://www.openttd.org/ - Game Site http://rapidshare.com/files/9766412/Transport_Tycoon_Deluxe_for_Windows.zip - Data files required for the game Next is Armagetron Advanced (Win, Lin, OS X) "A Tron clone in 3D" This has been the tagline of Armagetron, since, well, a very long time, and is probably the shortest and most accurate description possible. Tron was an arcade game based on the movie of the same name, release by Disney in 1982. The original game consisted of 4 sub-games, the only one of concern is the 'Light Cycles' one, in which the player uses a left/right joystick to control a 'Light Cycle' which leaves a wall behind it wherever the cycle it goes, turning only at 90 degree angles... http://armagetronad.net/ And finally Allegiance (Win only) Allegiance is a free, online, multi-player space simulation game. You pilot spacecraft, flying in a team with other players, defending and attacking sectors in space. Allegiance challenges your tactical ingenuity, your ability to function in a team and your prowess at blowing stuff up. Experienced players take command and lead their teams to victory or defeat. http://www.freeallegiance.org/
http://gamedata.box.sk/_extra/syobon-action.zip Along the same lines of IWBTG. Amusing platformer.
http://www.insmod.net/ Insurgency, a pretty good HL2 mod. Basically a poor man's BF2 without vehicles (yet). Still in beta. Requires a Steam account and Half Life 2 installed. http://homepage3.nifty.com/ysflight/fromauthor/e2008.html YSFlight, a nice flight simulator. Very simple graphics. There are websites out there dedicated to modding new planes (if you use the term "planes" liberally) which is a plus.
>>269 Okay, I have no idea how to properly install this game.
Well if Urban Dead and Nexus Wars is up here, why not? http://galava.net/ Galava is a browser based, Medieval themed, nation building simulator. The game is still in a form of Beta with a global reset coming up. The game allows you to build an Empire complete with Provinces as well as three different kinds of units along with siege units or even an Arcanus to cast spells. Players can join with others to form guilds and declare war upon each other with their units. Playing only require minutes a day. Anon has made their appearance in this and similar games. In this one, they are known as KRJ.
NationStates-http://nationstates.net/ How would you govern your country? Like a king or like a fool, like a dictator or like a anarchist, well now you can. Unfortunetly it's really community based now, RPing and war only work through RP and as such it is kinda lame when you're waiting for shit to start rolling. http://www.nationstates.net/jachel
Can't believe I forgot this one. http://www.synthetic-reality.com/wosHome.htm Well of Souls is an MMORPG that, while lacking in graphic quality, is surprisingly addictive. You choose from a variety of classes to fight monsters and other players if you are so inclined. You can even make your own custom sprites if you look up the tutorial on how. And all the music is in midi form and it can be easily be replaced with other midis so you can listen to your own songs. If you're a talented programmer, you can make your own maps and quests.
Hot diggity damn, why did real /v/ never have threads as useful as this?
>>428 Well let me think; trolls, newfags, idiots, toruneyfags, pirates, assholes, rageaholics, should I keep going?
>>430 I'd have thought there'd have been at LEAST one thread about this, considering the sheer volume...
>>433 Just because theres a lot of them doesn't mean some of them aren't assholes.
No Frets on Fire? For shame.
A lot of 3DREALMS games from the Apogee era are available as freeware at their website http://www.3drealms.com/downloads.html Alien Carnage / Halloween Harry Bio Menace Blake Stone: Aliens of Gold and Duke Nukem 3D among others
Chalk http://www.konjak.org/chalk.htm A fun game where you draw over your enemies in various ways to defeat them. Why this hasn't been ported over to the DS is beyond me.
www.kingdomofloathing.com A browser-based RPG that parodies most RPG's. good for a few laughs. also, I remember playing an old browser-based game where you were in control of a nation and you led your troops with heroes when you did battle. Does anyone know what this is?
http://www20.cds.ne.jp/~murasame/archives/bmd_test.zip Direct link to Bunny Must Die. I think it's a sister game to "Chelsea and the 7 Devils." http://www20.cds.ne.jp/~murasame/games/bmd.htm It's all in Japanese, but it basically plays like the newer Castlevania games. Tough little platformer that uses multiple weapons and time rewinding. You may need to switch to Japanese on applocale to play it properly. Quick note on getting started: After you beat the first boss you can rewind time, use this to get past the gate you start near that only opens for one second.
Slash'EM (Super Lotsa Added Stuff Hack - Extended Magic): http://slashem.sourceforge.net/ Basically, it's Nethack with a bunch of new areas, monsters, races, classes, items, spells.
>>538 how do I get bunny must die to work?

>>459 Oh man, word of warning, if you do play this stay as far as you can from the forums and chat. http://www.forumwarz.com/ is an internet parody game, fun for killing a few minutes.
>>193 I played UD a while back. I didn't get to know anyone, so once I got all the skills, I stopped.
wesnoth would be better if it weren't so fucking hard to make your own stuff
Word of warning, let's try and keep the chatter to a minimum. The list should be purely informative. If you would like to discuss a game in further depth, please by all means create a new thread. Oh, and by the way guys. YOU'RE AWESOME. Keep up the good work.
Ginormo Sword http://babarageo.com/flash/ginormo/
La-Mulana - Inspired by the likes of Maze of Gallious, this game is a giant love letter to the MSX and its users. A huge game with mind boggling puzzles and outright unforgiving difficulty at times. Metroid + Castlevania 2 + Swift Kick to the Junk = La-Mulana http://agtp.romhack.net/project.php?id=lamulana
If there are any flight sim people out there you might like to check out FlightGear. http://www.flightgear.org/ It's no Microsoft Flight Simulator but it is still good.
http://www.trackmania.com/en/ TRACKMANIA, BABY!
Oh, and if you have Risk, One World Dominion used to be published for it as an unauthorized expansion set -- it's now available from the owners as a free PDF. Believe me, it's awesome. http://interformic.com/owd.html
http://visublog.mechafetus.com/archives/468 Hikkikomori Quest - Yea yea yea, it's a weeaboo RPG, but it's fun nonetheless.
Tales of Game's Presents Chef Boyardee's Barkley, Shut Up and Jam: Gaiden, Chapter 1 of the Hoopz Barkley SaGa http://www.gamingw.net/forums/index.php?topic=68488.0 A JRPG with a battle system like SMRPG and Paper Mario Also is completely awesome.
Gunbound a turn-based artillery games http://www.gunbound.com/ Silk Road is a free fantasy MMORPG http://www.silkroadonline.net
Guys, quit posting so many shitty free-Online MMO's. No one cares, and no one wants to play a gimped new age share-ware version of a game that constantly tells you to spend 15 dollars to become a "PREMIUM" user.
>>832 God, I remember playing Patchouli Knowledge's tracks back when I tried out the game, it left me in fucking rage. 20 MINUTES TO HIT THAT FINISH LINE FFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCCCCCCCKKKKKKK
http://nifflas.ni2.se/ nifflas has atmospheric side scrolling games that are very good, very fun, and very FREE knytt stories even has a level editor
Cave Story is mega super kawaii~. :333333 I love this thread. ;_;
http://www.alphabounce.com/ Alpha bounce. I keep thinking "theres no way I can stay addicted to this" but its obvious why I am. Its a brick breaking game, that lets you work towards permanent achievements. How can you NOT get addicted. The only problem s playing three games a day.
The Dead Case - A point and click adventure where you are a ghost who must solve the mystery of his own death and others' before moving on to the next life. http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/173654
What, nobody mentioned Yahtzee's games? http://www.fullyramblomatic.com/games.htm I have this thing for fucked up and/or horror games games so his Chzo point and click quadrilogy fit my tastes pretty well. http://www.fullyramblomatic.com/5days/ http://www.fullyramblomatic.com/7days/ Trilby's Note kinda stands out a bit since rather than pointing and clicking on things, you need to type in your actions like a text-adventure. Kinda sucks if you forget some character's names.... http://www.fullyramblomatic.com/notes/ The gameplay in Trilby's Notes was a pain in the ass to develop so he went back to regular point and click for the final installment. http://www.fullyramblomatic.com/6days/ Finally, there's 1213, a pretty cool psychological sci-fi thriller about a man known only as 1213 who can't remember shit about himself and is repeatedly put through dangerous hazard courses....then his cell door opens for no reason one day and things quickly go south. http://www.fullyramblomatic.com/1213/ The games are all free, but Yahtzee gives out special editions of his games with a five dollar donation.....though I wouldn't mind sharing the ones I've already got :P
Dino Run is pretty good. http://www.pixeljam.com/dinorun/ http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/443828
Has this been posted? http://nigoro.jp/game/rosecamellia/rosecamellia.php
Breaking the Tower http://www.mojang.com/notch/ld12/breaking/ For those that like it slow.

Why hasn't anybody said N yet? Shit is so cash a remake is on XBLA, PSP, and DS. http://www.harveycartel.org/metanet/downloads.html
http://forums.tigsource.com/index.php?topic=2491.0
God damn it, give me more games to play. If there aren't more games to play than I have time left in my life, this thread is doing it wrong.
Untitled Story - A non-linear platformer, can be a bit esoteric in some areas. http://gmc.yoyogames.com/index.php?showtopic=323971 Abandoned - A maze explorer game, can be confusing in some places. http://gmc.yoyogames.com/index.php?showtopic=395761&st=0 The Pretentious Indie Gamer Scene - A blog chock full of "indie game" (meaning obscure freeware) reviews. http://www.pigscene.com/
Nikujin- the link is a review with a link to the game itself, so I don't think I really need to say anything here. http://www.tigsource.com/articles/2007/06/11/nikujin
http://www.theneitherworld.com/yumenikki/ yume nikki is a game with almost no gameplay. you play as a girl who refuses to go outside at all. she sleeps. she explores her dream world. she records them in her diary. it may be the most bizarre game you will ever play.
Rosenkreuz Stilette Do you like Megaman? Do you like cute anime girls? Then this game may be something for you. It's basically a Megaman clone, some stages even have the same layout as some of the MM series, but you can see it as a homage of kinds. The difficulty is insane though, especially since the last password only takes you to the first of the 8 last levels Wily style. There IS a story. But sadly no translation (yet). Doesn't matter that much anyway since the plot dialogue can be turned off by playing Arcade Mode. As for the graphics: Characters are decently done with sprites, and the backgrounds are pretty awesome too for a doujin game. http://www.megaupload.com/?d=ro6oxwbq
So I got dragged back into Urban Dead somehow. The details aren't exactly clear in my head, but after basically vanishing from the game in May I've been brought back. http://www.urbandead.com Very basic, text-based browser adventure with low-level graphics. Downloading the UDToolbar attachment streamlines the somewhat clunky interface and gives shiny new graphics, but the whole appeal is in the userbase, which is extensive and very well-developed. It takes a lot of work and a while to get into, but the results and community make the work worthwhile. Community is centered around the Wiki, which lays out the game in detail and is where a big chunk of the user interaction takes place. Wiki is linked from the main site. If you're interested in doing philanthropic work in a small area, head over to the Dulston suburb after signing up and ask for the ELT- or for that matter any of the Dulston Alliance groups. They'll help you get started off right.
>>4713 PS it's easiest to start out as a fireman because your fireaxe does decent damage and doesn't run out of ammo; you'll gain enough experience to get all other class skills soon enough anyway.
http://www.starpirates.net Kinda fun in a keep-coming-back-every-ten-minutes sort of way, though the forums seem to be full of people who love it so much they spend their paychecks on points. It's much harder to improve your ship if you're not willing to spend IRL gold on it, but at least you have your pride. Any other games out there like Breaking the Tower? Civilisation games without the wars (boring) or politics (also boring).
Phun - 2D physics sandbox. http://www.phunland.com/wiki/Home
I feel like an idiot for not mentioning this. http://www.srb2.org/ A Sonic T. Hedgehog game that uses the same module as the old DOOM games. Has not only a good single player experience, plus unlockables, but it also has an online gaming option with several modes (CTF, Team Deathmatch, Deathmatch, Race, and Coop) to host both private IP games or public games. To add to this, there is a massive mod community, with several XBAWKZ HUEG level additions, or whole new Coop/Single Player campaign modes to download. To top it all off, this is only the demo, the full version comes out (for free) soon.
http://mfgg.net/index.php?act=resdb¶m=02&c=2&id=12431 One of the top rated game over at MFGG. Basically you're playing as Toad, classic Mario-type game. You can switch between using a Fire Flower, Hammer, or Yoshi if you can find them. You can find Ace Coins to unlock bonus levels! Dunno if you want this sort of thing though. If you do, then there are a few I could point out that you might like.
Oh how could I forgot the picture
>>5105 >>5106 Sure, looks cool.
Erm, alright, i'll give ya a few of my favorites. SUPER MARIO STARDUST (pictured) http://mfgg.net/index.php?act=resdb¶m=02&c=2&id=10781 Another Mario platformer, good 9.2 score, and one of the few that lets you use the fire flower and cape at the same time. THINGIO SIDE A: LET'S GO THINGIO http://mfgg.net/index.php?act=resdb¶m=02&c=2&id=5278 More of a humorous game. It's not exactly great in quality, but it's nice to play through at least once. Side B'll be more polished, actually tried a bit of it myself, although Someguy got caught up in other things, Kaep left, who knows when it'll be done? PAPER BOWSER WORLD http://mfgg.net/index.php?act=resdb¶m=02&c=2&id=5056 PAPER BOWSER WORLD: OPERATION G.R.O.M. http://mfgg.net/index.php?act=resdb¶m=02&c=2&id=13615 Remember the sidescrolling Bowser bits in Paper Mario 2? Well, somebody decided to be cool and make 2 games based around them! The first allows for play as both Bowser and Kammy Koopa (and has a secret level!), while G.R.O.M. focuses more on Bowser. There are some other games I myself enjoy (Super Mario Storm, Yoshi VS. Windows), but they're more of forum games, so you'd probably not get 'em unless you were a long-time member. It's easy to look around and find some you might like. Well, that's enough plugging websites for me.

>>185 About Elona... I'm not quite sure what it's about, and it looks well done, but I was only 5 minutes into the game before I had practiced cannibalism and had a little girl as a pet. So yeah. Nice to see an RPG where you can feed braindead lolis the corpses of beggars that just happen to be lying around your house.
>>6206 Turn on Wizard mode, then spam gain_exp in the console. Spend the EXP points, use wish for Uber Equipment. Become an unstoppable force of nature. Then watch as the uber bosses still kick your ass if you don't use Mew-Mew.

So, how much should I rage at the games posted here that aren't freeware but, rather, are "indie and yet highly pirated"?
>>8131 zomg which ones (so i can download em ahahahaha)
>>8131 Well, if a game is old enough, you don't really have much choice (Starcon2 for instance). Still, go on with your rage, good sir, it could be interesting.
http://neurohack.com/transcendence/ Transcendence is what is what happened when Asteroids and Roguelikes had a baby. Choose a ship and pimp it out and hope you don't die. Trade, escort, kill(mostly kill) etc. to make money and get rewards until your humble ship is armed to the teeth with an array of tech bought, stolen, or salvaged from the many different factions.
http://fantasticcontraption.com/
http://www.playauditorium.com/ Nice and relaxing.
http://osu.ppy.sh Osu Tatakae Ouendan emulator with a level editor and ranking system. I can hope some anons can make a level from something that isn't Matchbox 20...
>>12957 Shit, why didn't I think to mention osu. Also, I'd rather play it on a DS, because I lack a tablet. ;____;
http://forums.tigsource.com/index.php?topic=4017.0 Here's a game I just found, Spelunky. It's like La Mulana and Nethack had an adorable little baby. And that baby loathes you with the same inexplicable ferocity as its parents. A good game for masochists and platforming enthusiasts.
>>13501 >Spelunky I kind of wonder if he took the name and similar concept from Spelunker. A much older and somewhat similar game.
SPELUNKY IS AWESOME Get gold, save ladies, kill snakes, steal idols, die over and over.
>>13515 YES. I hate to use the word since it means jack shit to me nowadays, but it is indeed awesome. Quite impressive for being so small. Also, >>13512 here. It's only partially spelunker after all. Mostly the ghosts. FUCK I HATE THEM.
thanks. I'm so glad i can play some of these on windows vista!
>>13589 Yeah, I used to hate the Ghost too. But then I realized that I really shouldn't be wasting my time trying to pick up every shiny thing I see on the screen nor explore the cave's every nook and cranny like it were a beautiful woman. But there are enemies that I do hate. Namely the Yetis in the obligatory ice world. At first I thought they were cute. But now I hate them. I hate their wet, smelly fur, I hate their little blue nipples, and I especially hate the way they throw me against a wall, only for me to rebound back at the same angle so they can throw me again, and again, and again in an infinite loop. The only thing I can find to love about them is the way their blood splatters on the floor when I stomp on them.
>>14204 You can survive long falls without taking damage if you land on a stompable enemy.
>>14210 Yeah, I know that, you practically need to in the ice world, unless you have a lot of rope to spare. The problem is, if you miss that jump by an inch, or accidentally get too close while just walking, these fuckers will pick you up like a small child and fling you halfway across the world and possibly into a bottomless pit that may or may not lead to China. If you're lucky. If you're not, they'll pretend you're a rubber ball and slam you against the nearest horizontal surface, and see how many times they can bounce your broken lifeless body against the wall without you touching the ground. Turns out they can do it forever. As per the pic in my previous post.
I beat spelunky for the first time! I beat the last battle basically on easy mode, though, what with my jetpack and surplus of bombs.
http://2dfighter.com/ I haven't tried it but it supposedly has alot of arcade games
http://zarat.us/tra/offline-games/eversion.html It seems Kirby played too much Yume Nikki ...
No mention of Stepmania the open source DDR clone yet? http://www.stepmania.com If a song exists, there is a good chance that someone has made a simfile for it. You can play with your keyboard if you don't have a USB dance mat, but that's kind of sad and lame.
found this recently: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_commercial_games_released_as_freeware Some of the stuff on this list is quite entertaining, like TD2192 or the command and conquers.
S4 online Funky, totally awesome music, nice graphics, game play kinda reminiscent to GUNZ http://s4.en.alaplaya.eu/
>>4055 Most Doujinsoft games aren't freeware, the authors just have no way to stop you from stealing them. This particular game is available from the creators for 5 dollars USD plus horrible importing fees from Japan. Same with Touhou. They're not freeware.

http://www.remar.se/daniel/iji.php Iji (yes, thats the title) Looks similar to Another World and plays a lot like AW too. Just check it out, you wont regret it I promise you (especially if you liked AW).
http://db.tigsource.com/games/the-sewer-goblet Roguelike featuring the Wu-Tang clan.
http://www.savage2.com/en/main.php A cool online action game that plays like Warcraft combined with Hack 'N Slash, but with the twist of a commander/player building the actual base. free for basic characters, only needs money if you wish to play the overpowered game enders, which is rather hard to get enough points to spawn per round anyway, and which will definitely die without backup. no grinding, and you restart your level every new round after taking the enemy's main base. Game is balanced and is highly focused on teamwork, like TF2 with mages and a higher focus on melee. Switches from third person to first person when using ranged weapons. And did I mention no grinding?
http://www.armada-online.com/ Anyone here a dreamcast owner? Remember how fucking fun this was? Well, drop the fun a slight notch (AAARGH MINING), but add three times the content, add skills, and revamp the items system.
http://www.maths.tcd.ie/~icecube/
This one has been pretty fun lately. http://mirrormoon.org/projects/windom Basically it's you and your mech fight other mechs until you die. easy to learn, hard to master. Scrolls of uncurse (cheap but might not work) or Scrolls of Vanish Curse (expensive, but always works) clears that right up. >Second, DKSHSKGFK LITTLE LOLI BITCH STOLE MY 20,000 GP OFF THE GROUND AND I CAN'T FIGURE OUT HOW TO TAKE IT! You can't take the money from your party members. Enjoy your rich loli sir. >Third, LDHGLHGJH WHY IS MAGIC SO IRRITATINGLY DIFFICULT! WHAT THE FUCK HOW DID I SUMMON MONSTERS ARGH THEY KEEP KILLING ME FUUUUUCK! Magic is a dick in the first place, I still can hardly use it. But anyways, onto the helping: go out into the open fields, and stand next to the boundary of the map. When you read a book and it summons monsters, leave the map, and they'll all be gone when you re-enter. If you need books to read in general, Puppy Cave, which is just east of Vernis, is a random generating dungeon that spawns all kinds of books. Even if you can't cast the spell, you might be able to sell it for 100 gold and up. >Fourth, DSKSGFDSJGF WHAT WHY ARE SLIMES KICKING MY ASS JESUS CHRIST THEY DO SO MUCH DAMAGE! You can use the * key to manually target things, and shoot over enemies. Get a putit between you and the slime, target the slime, and fire away. >Fifth, LDSHFDSLHF WHY ISN'T IT DETECTING MY INTERNET CONNECTION ITS ALWAYS ON YET IT CAN'T SEE IT! Internet connection does nothing except with the moon gates, runes, and voting system. Both of the first two are useless, unless you want to get slaughtered at the house of some uber Jap. player with their god NPC allies. The Voting System is another source of pay for your bi-weekly paycheck, just like your adventurer rank, and your arena rank. >Finally, SDLHFDSJSHD WHY IS THERE NO WAY TO REDO THE TUTORIAL AGAIN I AM SO FUCKING LOST! New character is the only way, dude. If you're really stingy (like me), you can re-do the tutorial, not use any of the scrolls or potions, and get away with a free Scroll of Identify, Scroll of Uncurse, and 3 Potions of Heal Minor Wounds.

I swear nobody knows about Guardian of Paradise. Okay! I distinctly remember City of Heroes character creator being released free and legal outside of the states, and somebody added a file to translate it into English. So I'm wondering if anyone knows where I can get my hands on it.
>>23953 I found it on /rs/ the other day, although the "Translating to English" thing really didn't work too well. You might be better off giving NC Soft some fake info and scoring a free 10 day trial account. Besides, I think the stand alone version is a little dated, they've added a lot of costume options since that thing came out.
>>21668 Interesting. Remind me to play that someday. I only checked a bit of the video not to have it all spoiled, it seemed to have some interesting ideas, but the level design was linear, I mean, you can't possibly make more linear for a FPS. A present, /v/. For the 4th. http://www.igf.com/index.html The link above will direct you to the site of the Independent Games Festival, a prestigious game development/award summit where budding programmers can showcase their masterpieces for all to enjoy and critique. The site boasts direct downloads (or direct links to developer sites) of the country's most original and innovative game ideas, from heavily-modded "mainstream" (ugh. sorry) games, to the newest breed of "art game," to excellent technical gameplay designs. One I particularly liked is Synaesthete. Diablo II and Dance Dance Revolution's drug-induced, hippie-van lovechild, Synaesthete is aptly-named. Less of a game and more of a synthetic drug cocktail for your senses, Synaesthete is a study in sound, imagination, electronic poetry and how well your brain can retain its fluids. The game is a sensory overload, filled with kinetic neon hues, infectious techno music, uncannily blending the two into a seamless audio-visual WMD. WGRealms 2, a single player mod of Duke Nukem 3D. New levels, new musics, new models, uses art from Quake, Witchaven, Doom, etc Works with modern OS too. It's really good Download link http://deeperthought.dukertcm.com/wgr2/WGR2.zip Fast Mirror http://dukeworld.duke4.net/2001-current/tc/wgr2/WGR2.zip Thread http://forums.duke4.net/index.php?showtopic=1446
>>51973 forgot to say, it's standalone, you don't need duke3D, just download, unrar and play.
>>51973 Mods aren't considered freeware, only if the games are freeware themselves. And yes I know Duke Nukem 3D is freeware and Open Source now, but it's really considered borderline freeware as it was a fully commercial release at its time.
>>52008 This thread is already full of stuff like >>51973.
>>52008 This mod IS "freeware" since it doesn't use anything from the original Duke Nukem except Duke's art and VA. And as far as I know, only giving levels away for free bothers the makers of the game. Also Duke is not freeware. It's opensource, doesn't mean it's freeware. You can buy it for 5.99$ there for exemple http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/duke_nukem_3d_atomic_edition/pp/6c1e671f9af5b46d9c1a52067bdf0e53685674f7
>>52064 Oh, that's fair then. To be fair I didn't really check out the game, I just assumed it was one of those mods that ripped of all of the game's assets.
http://mogera.jp/gameplay?gid=gm0000000206
http://armorgames.com/play/4201/vorago An adventure game about the end times. Definitely the best I've played in years.
>>51973 They've fixed a lot of gameplay issues by now.
So is anyone making an image list like those in http://vsrecommendedgames.wikia.com/wiki/ ? If not, I'm willing to take that effort.
http://bulletsofarevolver.blogspot.com/ Coolest cowboy fightan gaem i've played yet.
>>55548 >Custer's Revenge reference
>>55548 This game is bad and you should feel bad Justin.
>>55594 Well, he never said it was good, just that it was the best cowboy fighter. And how do you contest a claim like THAT?
>>55604 Well, maybe i played other cowboy fighting games.
>>55676 ...have you?
Oh damn. Coming here from the real /v/ and I must say, you guys are better than oxygen. The first thread I see is a 300+ reply freeware game thread. FUCK YES. Since I want to contribute too, I made a freeware game collection a LONG time ago that I shared via torrent, but it was kinda rushed and added most of the games that people suggested me, judging wether to add them or not only by a bunch of screenshots, so some stupid games made it in there and many games are in the wrong category. Also, the torrent has only 3 seeds as of now, so it's slow as fuck to download. But yeah, I hope some of you'll enjoy it. http://thepiratebay.org/torrent/4485702/Freeware_Games_Collection_v2.00 I considered putting together a much polished and thoroughly tested collection for /v/ but... you know, they don't really deserve it. But maybe I could bother to actually do it, if some of you wanted me to. Downloading all of these one by one is an hassle, having them all together could be easier.
>>61285 Welcome to /cog/! Please, enjoy your time on plus4chan, brother.
>>61286 I will sure as fuck do, bro. Also, GENETOS http://www.tatsuya-koyama.com/software/wg002_genetos_eng.html SHMUP that starts in the Space Invaders era, to evolve up until today's shooters.
>>61287 I've been playing a lot of Raycrisis recently, yet this game does a good job of killing me in the third stage. I think I just need to adapt a little more.
http://www.fun-motion.com/files/sumotori101.zip I fucking love Sumotori Dreams Even Conan O'Brien does http://www.tilt.tv/?cm=news&aid=17648[/spoiler]
Just got posted on Indiegames but here it is. Towerclimb. You are a random dude that climbs a procedurally generated tower/cave while avoiding traps and shit by wallclimbing and being spiderman. Fuckawesome 10 minutes killer. http://gamejolt.com/freeware/games/towerclimb/files/towerclimb/download/1459/2170/
>>62629 That game's a dick.
>>62753 You are now aware you are capable of hopping from a ledge and walking through the spikes with no damage.
>>62753 As long as you don't jump on them, spikes don't do shit.
>>62629 This game seems really luck based. Is there a way to clime upwards while on the edge of a ceiling? Still, very fun
Crossfire? http://crossfire.z8games.com/events_gc_home.aspx
Canabalt: an intense, one-button free running game where you jump across buildings to escape from giant robots. Easy to pick-up but hard to master since the building placement and the gap lengths are randomly generated every time you start a game. Personal best is just over 4k meters. I suck. http://adamatomic.com/canabalt/
>>61287 Beautiful. Jesus Christ, this is an amazing achievement. Part tribute, part art game, part legitimately balls-hard shmup, Genetos moved me through the emotional spectrum, oscillating between childlike wonder and disparate frustration.
http://www.minecraft.net/ I've been playing this game with a friend and we have been having a ton of fun. We're basically making giant dwarf fortresses, even going so far as to make irrigation systems and biodomes. It's crazy addictive.
>>51973 Damn that game is far more complex than I thought it would be.
Level Up! http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/519030 This is a pretty nifty little flash game. It's a platformer with RPG elements; it shouldn't take you long to beat but it's really fun.
http://www.freewebgames.com/realspace2/index.asp Played this game ever since I was a kid. Man, it takes me back.
I'm not sure if this has been posted before, but on the offchance it hasn't... the white chamber is a point-and-click mystery/horror game IN SPACE. You play a young woman who wakes up in a coffin and must figure out the mystery of what happened on the space station you're trapped on. http://www.studiotrophis.com/site/projects/thewhitechamber It's a good game, if rather short, and can be pretty damn scary at times.
http://www.1up.com/do/blogEntry?bId=9025385 Soul of Dracula, Stickvania, and Return of Egypt. Three little Castlevania clones. And that dude is totally Moses.
>>61285 Trojans. About ten of them in there.
>>74335 Well, I don't know wheter the coders put them in there by themselves, but I sure didn't. You're free to trust me or not. It's because of people that keep going "LOLVIRUS" before downloading and scanning it that I stopped doing this kind of thing.

>>20196 Just tried out Iji. A surprising amount of depth at work here. Solid exploration and level design, good game design in general except for the tragically bland combat. Mediocre plot + great execution = "pretty good" story. I'd give it an iffy recommendation, but one HELL of a final boss fight brought me around- thumbs up on this one, give it a whirl out sometime. Just kick the difficulty up a notch or two, and don't worry too much about being a completionist.

http://www.smokin-guns.net/ Draw.
>>79747 Mediocre plot? Please. The plot is fucking awesome. Seems rather meh at the start, but the more you go on, it just gets better. I just don't like the art. The art fucking sucks. Everything else is just awesome.
>>80371 Oh look, yet another horrible tragedy has occurred for petty, shallow reasons. How surprising! Let's watch it get milked for as much drama as possible!
http://pgstudios.org/pixel_legions.html Pixel Legions
>>80476 You can water down any plot ever that way. I just love the feel of "all hope is lost, you're fighting in vain. Everyone is fucked anyway".
>>81120 I just hate it when the story's drama hinges around terrible things happening for trivial reasons. It means the endless ruminations aren't going to lead anywhere insightful; you're just wallowing in angst. Again, I do very much like how the story is told, and the role you have in how it plays out.
>>185 W-where did the Pkunk go? They can't lose their war against the Ilwrath, can they? They're no longer in their home system of Gamma Krueger.
>>85040 Don't worry, they're fine.
>>85041 Where did they go? Even their little blue circle has vanished. It's like I never discovered their location, but when I went back to check, they were gone.
>>85043 Try asking the Yehat.
>>85040 W-Wait, someone's playing through SC2 without a guide? I...I AM SO HAPPY. *Internet Brofist*
>>85064 I'll do that, thanks. >>85079 Well, yeah. What's the point of playing a game if you're not the one playing it? I'll fumble my way through it the first time and then if I lose I'll check a guide for what I did wrong. But until then it's trial and error.

Looks like we're getting a freebie game over steam: Alien Swarm. Coming out this Monday. http://store.steampowered.com/app/630 Looks neat, and I've been needing a fresh distraction between eating and dying. Anyone care to hook up for this, you know where to find me on Steam.
