This is insane and adorable, but it's Vriska, so I'm still fearful for poor Pupa. The Land of Maps and Treasure looks really cool though, and Thief of Light is an awesome title.
I'm not sure what's happening but you don't have to be Terezi to smell the fanfic coming.
For some reason this bitchiness isn't as entertaining as her other tricks and traps. It's more elaborate, but it's more just mean than insane and lethal like her other escapades. It's like she's out of tricks and has resorted to just kicking him while he's down, literally.
>>81079how do you know she's not being sincere
>>81081>To be honest, you hardly know a damn thing about Pupa Pan. But you do not care.
I just keep hoping it'll be like someone else mentioned earlier, the sparkle powder is actually a sleep aid and she's sending him to Prospit.
it was her plan all along
>>81082it could just mean she's trying to appeal to Tavros's love of fairies but is ignorant of them herself.
>>81078I can hear the keyboards feverishly clacking away.>>81079The fact that she'd set up something so elaborate just to be mean is itself entertaining to me. Not to mention that once again using his fantasies to torment and mock him would be pretty cruel. However, it's kind of unclear just where this is going. It's Vriska, so it's hard to imagine her acting altruistically, but if she is actually doing something nice in her peculiar warped way, that would be so amazing.
>>81085Also the whole "literally kicking him while he's down" thing. She is sincerely treating him like crap.
>>81087i dunno vriska's pretty messed up could be her twisted way of showing her feelings but it's kind of hard to say. "trying to make him a better player" and all that stuff
could go either way at his point
He's fallen out of his chair, but he still isn't crying, Hussie. Please.
Aradia and Equius already had a hate-to-love scene. Here are two of the most -dysfunctional- characters in the beginnings of what -could- be a similar scene. There will only be pain and frustration.
I think this is all a set up to get Tavros' dream self to wake up (and FLY). For all we know Kanaya is MIA because she woke Vriska up in Prospit, and then moved on to Tavros, convincing Vriska to do it in an elaborate, symbolic, and silly (SEXY) way.or maybe she is just going to powerfuck him to near-death to get him to wake up i dont know anymore
I like to imagine that all of this is just Vriska setting up some sort of bullshit to be extra mean. Remember how she said Pupa would teach her to fly? What if this whole thing was so a fairy would steal his awesome rocket chair?
Don't forget to post images.
>>81098oh my godso this is why kanaya is so red for herand this is why for all the horrible things he's been put through, tavros is a lucky bastard
>>81099Verily!That art is adorable. Vriska as a cute, hellraising pixie just fits so perfectly.
vriska is mean and i still do not like her because i do not like mean people :[
To quote a famous American doctor and action hero, "WHAT IS HAPPENING TO MY WORLD?"
>>81104:o
>This updateI LOVE IT :3
Tavros needs to channel his inner Taurus and gore Vriska something fierce.
So, a guy made a fan-album of music for the trolls. It's... okay? You guys have probably already seen it, but I am posting it anyway.http://tindeck.com/users/EidolonOrpheus
>>81108I think that's basically what she's been going for this whole time :B
>>81109yeah I bookmarked that guy because his music is amazing
I don't see how this is sexy.
>>81109His music owns hard. I love Clockwork Apocalypse. Also: Good OP Chainerman! :D
>>81109Some of these are pretty obvious, but does anyone know who Eternal Laughter and Blight are supposed to be about? I'm not sure about a lot of the ones just under Jungle Cat either.
>>81114Some aren't trolls songs, but just other songs he's created.
>>81115Yeah, it's obvious a lot of them aren't, but I wasn't sure if I was missing something. Grudgebearer isn't obvious either, but I know it's a Karkat theme.
>>81112>I don't see how this is sexy.he is in the same room as a girl!!! with no one else there!!!
>>81117she is TOTALLY being a tease right now
>>81118then why isnt she dressed as rufio
Her feet were totally on backwards before. Gave the toes some shape, better? Also fixed the borked shadow on her sleeve. Should I add a background or no? I'm not terrible fond of the text bubble either, worth changing?
>>81120Looks fine without a background, and maybe drop the outline from the text bubble
I forget if I posted this or not.
>>81122Awwwww! gdi your line work is makes everything seem delicate and adorable.>>81121ugggghhhhh now seeing it not on photoshop's little checkerboard background that text bubble looks terrible. Imma nuke that whole thing and start again.
Hahaha, oh Vriska, you crazy bitch. I am finding this last slew of updates so amusing you don't even know. I'm starting to like having her in updates. I'd still put a bullet through her heart like putting down a rabid dog, but still. Tavros' face. He is making the best faces.
>>81117 So?
The thing about Vriska is that she's so messed up in the head that I can't tell whether she's just being sadistic or actually thinks she's helping him.
>>81125Okay I think what this Anon is saying here is that Tavros is laying helpless and dazed on the floor of a batshit insane bitch who's obsessed with him in some odd fashion, and is probably attracted to him judging from some of the monologue lines. And the buildup to this has included her insisting he wears a Pupa Pan outfit while she secretly dressed up in a Tinkerbell outfit in some weird and slightly creepy mobius double reacharound roleplay fantasy and lured him to her home saying he would find the greatest challenge of his life thus far but he could handle it.>>81126This is the best part.

>>81130
>>81130Well that's okay then. Why are you arguing about it? :\
>>81130Oh, well. I guess to each his own. Although I am little saddened to hear you just think it's stupid because this shit is hilarious to me.She just called him a silly goose and a stupid sack of shit in the same page. This is incredibly silly.
>>81130It's a femme fatale thing. She's the deadly vixen who's ensnared our hero.
obviously shes trying to make him hate her so they can be hateloversbut he cannot hate, and she will go unfulfilledwhich makes me happy because i do not like her >:[
hey hey guysso i heard you like homestuck parodies of soviet era posters(the original thing is here just for reference: http://www.communisme-bolchevisme.net/images/urss_soviet_poster_75.jpg)(also i hope this is worth the all the time i spent on it)

>>81138AHHH MOTHERLANDReally nice stuff, Sockpuppy.>>81152this
It's funny and hot when girls abuse and rape boys! ^___^
>>81154This but unironically
>>81149>>81152Let us put our energies into getting posters of this made and sold. I think it's something we can all believe in!
>>81154Yeah, there's a bit of a double standard there. When Equius revealed that he implanted a love chip everyone went nuts, but when Vriska tries to head in this direction people find it cool. But don't get all worked up because of it, it's just fiction that relies exactly on exploring the absurd side of something and making a dark caricature of it, that's Hussie's work in its entirety. Some stuff will be unfunny to some people, but he wouldn't cross a line in an obnoxious way just to be "controversial", that's not like him. If anything happens, it will serve as characterization, not as a retarded crass joke about rape lololol. And since we're talking about Vriska:Personally, I hate femme fatales, I consider them humongous bitches (bluh bluh). It's exciting to have a badass character, but the manipulative aspect is a huge turnoff. Not that Vriska is a femme fatale, she's way more of a narcissistic psycho than anything. Nah, this is what attractive badass looks like in my book.
>>81154If this goes in a "rape" direction I will be super uncomfortable but so far it's just Vriska being completely socially inept.I also don't get why people were super outrageously upset over the Equius thing?!?! Maybe I am a dumb.
>>81159Pretty much the only reason I support Vriska/Tavros is because femdom is my fetish
>>81160People were mad because they were furiously shipping Sollux/Aradia
>>81160People were upset over the Aradia/Equius thing because literally in the panel before it Aradia is fucking LIVID, just incredibly furious at Equius for putting that chip in her to make her love himand then she kisses him.I mean, what?
>>81163Equius is a skeeze but the kiss was on her own terms, right? It's blackrom I guess?Troll love sure is confusing!
>>81165Ah, but that happened before the black/redrom was explained or hinted at.
>>81164:D>>81166Ahhhh that would explain it! I'm over here looking at it with the knowledge I know now instead of how people saw it then. That would explain it!
>>81159Yeah, I think that if you read this troll thing long enough you're going to find something that just doesn't sit well with you. I was actually way more bothered by the fact that Tavros ran over Tinkerbull than I am about either of the ridiculous socially inept "romances" going on now.
:O Andrew's mind got blown by sockpuppy's pic!
>>81169My mind is blown that his mind is blownthis is a weird feeling!!
>>81167aw shucks Bea, you are my only fan

Man, am I the only one that sees this not as Vriska A.) trying to get all up on Tarvos' bone bulge, or 2.) trying to be mean?I personally think with all the bits about walking that this is how Vriska express her guilt about crippling him. Not entirely different to the thing with Aradia and the robot.
Wait hang on I think I've found out at least a little about whats going on.>AG: I have 8een designing a quest for you that should test your true limits. This is some twisted introduction to some custom made quest just for Tavros. Vriska does have DMing experience after all.
The real reason people got mad about Aradia/Equius is because the glasses wearing nerdy guy with a broken brain got dump in favor of the athletic rich guy.A million internet dwellers had spontaneous flashbacks to highschool and started to cry.
>>81164I like where this is going.>>81138So. Fucking. Gorgeous.>>81171Can I be your fan? :3
>>81181I think I said something to that effect last thread. Except, it's motivated by guilt, acting like romance and going to end in cruelty once Tavros acts in any way that displeases her.
>>81183That's stupid. No one else could physically handle a relationship with a robot other than the guy with the body of a demigod. Not to mention he's the reason she even has a physical form in the first place.
>>81189Just copy the other foot you already did, hell actually copy & paste it if you need to.I hate posting without an image so here's a doodle inspired by Waltz with Bashir and unrelated to Homestuck.
>>81189That is a good picture and watching the differences from the original sketch shows you learn and improve quickly. We look forward to more of your drawfaggotry.
Also, this.
You know i went a relooked and just realized how short that dress is she is wearing.
>>81190The foot in the back? I barely even touched that one...did I position it really weird?...oh shit, you're right! I just tried to turn my foot to the side that way and feet don't work like that! I LIED I AM STILL GOING TO WORK ON THIS>>81191Thanks! I feel really bad for filling up the threads with my junk but the help from everyone here was incredible! Would it really bother people if I did that again for my next not hastily doodled piece of junk or it is too annoying?
>>81194If you start to feel awkward about it, you could always make a homestuck thread in /draw/.
>>81189Right foot is facing the wrong way, that's why it looks wierd. Toenails!>>81183I think Equius is possibly more fucked in the head than Sollux though, and at least some people actually like Sollux. They're both losers, in any case.
>>81195>/draw/>>81196Are you sure? I just tried to lay in the position and I couldn't get my feet to face any way but with the pads facing toward my head (if that makes sense?!)
>>81196Sollux is one of my favorites, and I really like Equius. He's...odd, but interesting.
>>81198Like, am I still doing this ass backwards? This is how I'm trying to fix it atm
>>81194I am bothered it is very annoying I hate it.I hate you.If I still went to #bluhbluh I would ask you to make me op so i can ban you.draw forever
>>81196I am almost certain human ankles can not do that and stay intact.
>>81200I'd turn it so it was almost sideways. Big toe should be on the other side, too.>>81199I love them both (:
>>81200I know less than nothing about drawing, but if you ask me it'd be better if there was an angle between the leg and the foot. It kind of looks like the toes are just attached to a continuation of the leg.
>>81200Is there anyone else around? Get them to do that foot position and take a picture so you have a good idea of how the feet and shading look.
>>81200LOOK BEALOOK AT THE FEETS
>>81201Thank youuuu>>81203>>81204>>81205Oh! Oh! Wait I think I get now! More like this +some more angling on the other foot?
>>81109It feels a bit too basic at times, but still, very good.I like aquatic aristocracy.
>>81207Yeah, I think that's it
>>81209Nice pic! The color choices are very striking.I just had the most blinding moment of clarity because of you guys. Thank you thank you thank you
>>81210I can't take any credit for those, Ari Folman is a brilliant director is all.
>>81151No joke, I just printed this out and blu-tacked it to the wall.My printer started running out of black ink halfway through, but THE RED BANNER REMAINED STRONG. Obviously the workers' control of the means of ink production vastly outclassed pitiful capitalist monochrome.>>81207Arg, I can never get extremities right. I keep forgetting that hands are, like, half the size of your face (and I only remember that because my ex-wife pointed it out, which just adds to the embarrassment). These things are important. Maybe.
?!

do not reward her for crippling you and being mean tavros :[ she is not a nice person and does not deserve your hatelove or whatever the hell is happening here
I see it like this: Vriska wants Tavros as a matesprit/kismesis (or whatever), but Tavros is all WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON. I predict a strong punch in the gut from Tavros to Vriska or something. Either that, or a blatant cutaway to CC or CA.
>Vriska: Make Pupa have happy thoughts.Dammit Hussie, stop making me have indecent thoughts about thirteen-year-old aliens
>>81231hey man, it wouldn't be very tavros-like to hold a grudge.
oh my god this just keeps getting better
>>81227Yesssss!YESSSSS!It's all coming together!
he's gotta reject hercome on, tavros, you are the personification of do not want right now
Despite the fact that I called this waaaaaaaay back in the Rufio conversation the fact that it actually happened makes me a feel a bit bad and unfulfilled.Just goes to show that nothing good ever comes of shipping.
oh god I am so unhappy with this turn of eventsplease punch her Tavros PLEASE GOD PUNCH HER
HOLY TODDFUCK DO.NOT.WANT.
oh my god this is the best day ever>>81230Which pairing? Also it's canon that they're... kinda polyamorous, sounds from Karkat's log like it's not unusual for them to have multiple interests as long as each one is a different type of rrrrrromance.
Oh man it's like one really bizarre drug trip. The best part is how many forum people are going SHOULD NOT WANT right now.
>>81235It's always been clear Tavros doesn't like her, he's just too much of a wimp to stand up against her. He's like a ten year old and Vriska's a bully, which makes this sort of/really disturbing.
I am laughing so hard right now. People are flipping out and I'm just loving every second of it.
>>81245I know that feelingIt's like it's surprising but I'm not feeling very surprised
>>81242I supported KarkatXVriska, because of Nepeta's shipping wall D:Oh well, then its obvious that Terezi is with Karkat.Or Vriska is just a whore and flirts with every boy.Blurgh, shipping sure is weird.
I would like for this to turn into some semi-long-term mindgame of Vriska's that ends with Tavros manning up and going "no, you know what, screw you."
>>81227Haha, I was wondering if he was going to fix the wings. Sage for double post.
Here's some not xTavros Vriska art for the hes and shes mad.Tawa, the person who draws manly powerlifter Tav, seems to be very pleased with this turn of events. I'm pretty stoked to see what kinda drawings come out of it.
Steady-on there, Pupa! :DGrab her ass!Poor Tavros. He probably is barely processing just what is going on. One can hardly blame him though. Vriska's some major wo-mon.>>81138This, this is awesome!>>81171I is also a fan of you!>>81214Your art makes me happy. :)
>>81248I think Tavros is going to mega-friendzone her. He'll eventually pull away and be all "uM VRISKA? tHAT WAS NICE AND ALL, BUT I DON'T LIKE YOU LIKE THAT. wE CAN STILL HANG OUT THOUGH, IF YOU DON'T TRY TO KILL ME ANYMORE. }:) "
>>81247I like it too, I'm gonna draw it no matter what this update's like. It's too late to get all depressed about it anyway. I thought he shut my flagship down twice but he's actually left it alone. Maybe for you too??
>>81252"uHHH, vRISKA, nO OFFENSE BUT, i DON'T REALLY LIKE YOU THAT WAY, oR IN ANY WAY AT ALL REALLY, cOULD YOU PLEASE STOP DOING THAT,"
Oh my God this shit is unbearably bad.I don't care. This is all pandering shipping bullshit. That's all the trolls are. Why do a bunch of 12 year olds need to make out? They don't.Move the fuck on. Where's the main cast? Jesus. We did NOT need to waste two months on all of this. Oh my God why is this so bad Hussie why is this so bad you used to be so good stop it stop it stop it.BLUH BLUH BLUH BLUH.
>>81255Well hey man, thats, uhhh, just your opinion.
>>81252 >>81254And then she does something horrible to him. :(
See my theory is, Andrew himself is a nasty red-candied blood fucker, and he his angry and confused as to why the world hates him. So he plans these story plots that turn viewers into haters so Andrew can take small pleasure by causing them pain. This also explains why nothing bad ever happens to KarkatTHEY ARE BLOOD BROTHERS
>>81138holy shit, sockpuppy <3I guess I could say something about the update but my mind is just full of fuck right now.
>>81257all she wants is for him to get some balls and stand up for himselfif he rejects her she'd die of happinessholy fuck that is weird

>>81260what if he just starts cryingthat's kind of like rejection, but not the manly sortthen she will be unfulfilled in all ways
Oh god he's shakingNooo I just feel so bad for himSay no, Tavros, just say no.Not that 'no means no' works with Vriska
>>81260Any relationship of any kind between these two is going to be incredibly weird and mostly hilarious. Probably why this is the only pairing I'm interested in in the whole HS cast despite the fact that I find one party the most loathsome villain I ever encountered.
>>81263then she will sock him in the nuts. She'd do it if he accepted it too, probably. She doesn't want the redrom (meaning Nepeta's version of Karkat/Vriska is still open anon you can rejoice).
is this her way of trying to be nice? then it will probably turn out even worse than if she is being malicious

>>81290it's not funny at allwhat it is is hot as fuck
>>81289>fancysanta.com:I
Oh man, this is the BEST BIRTHDAY PRESENT EVER!THANK YOU HUSSIE!
part of me acknowledges this is hilarious and contributes hugely to characterization, but the part of me that does not care about 13-year-old romances is le tired.why did andrew suddenly cut loose on the romance for the trolls? it's like the people who are weirded out by kid-shipping are emboldened by gray skin and horns to push past the taboo and ship like crazy. it wearies me somehow that andrew seems affected by this as well, but passes it off as a significant segment of troll culture, whereas the earth kids act their own age (largely clueless about romance in the earth sense) and are caught up in their own external circumstances with little regard to internal relationships; because we already know a bunch about the game and external circumstances in this arc, those interpersonal relationships dominate the troll storyline. a little disproportionally, imo.i guess what i am saying is i love the influx of art showing new and interesting character dynamics but i don't see us coming back to the very platonic earth kids feeling satisfied with those relationships.
>>81282I think people really need to stop treating MSPA like a novel and stop taking things so seriously. Just because it's well thought out and written/told doesn't mean it's a commentary on the human condition- though Andrew certainly does like to make jokes about that when he feels like it. But that's the point, everything happens as he feels like and he incorporates things just because he likes them or wants to see a reaction. His tales started out more surreal with Bard Quest and the prison one and though to the reader, Homestuck may seem more grounded, it isn't really at its' heart. The characters are now much more complex and the dynamics between them are so much more engaging, but they're still stick figures doing ridiculous things for amusement and sheer "haha what the fuck is happening?"A person's going to have a hard time enjoying MSPA if they treat it like any sort of normal comedy, tragedy, drama, etc because really it's more like playing a pen and paper game with a batshit insane DM. No, we're not going to spend a session exploring your PC's psyche and I know this doesn't make sense and in reality it'd actually be really disturbing but fuck it, it's awesome! Man, some of the comments I see, it's like hearing an adult scold some kids having fun with their action figures because they didn't formulate the conflicting interests of protagonist and antagonist in a way the audience can relate to. We're playing fast and loose here, folks.tl;dr whoa man, just like... chill, alright?
>>81290is this an ironic way of saying that it is creepybecause tavros has always been portrayed as so sweet and innocent and seeing him put in this situation feels kind of weird :|
>>81284I'd love to see one using this Lady Gaga and Behemoth mashup.
Next it will skip to some of the other trolls, and when we come back to this Kanaya will how found Vriska has chained Tavros to a wall, playing kissy face, and she will have the shocked face of all shocked faces.
>>81298I dunno I think you can disagree with something an author does without "taking it too seriously". I've gotten that argument from two people now and it really surprises me.
Has Hussie posted anything in the forums lately? The search is a clusterfuck on my phone and I want to see what he's saying.I had a search of his posts bookmarked in the old forum but it don't work no more. :C
>>81303I'm pretty sure it'll cut to something else now before we see any coherent reaction from Tavros. 'Coz, you know, to do: troll the readers
>>81297I'm actually looking forward to returning to returning to the kids because their relations are so much more, well, mundane. Trolls are a peculiar breed, and it's interesting looking at their apparently emotionally-charged people, but a return to the more relatable kids will be refreshing.>>81298The crazy DM analogy is a good one, and rather appropriate, since this started out as a faux-text adventure. It seems easy to forget that many things are happening on the fly, especially since the readers' input has become considerably more limited in affecting the story.
>>81227 I like this, I really like this.
>>81307Oh man yeah, time to CUT AWAY TO SOMEONE ELSE.But maybe we can meet new trolls?! I hope we see CA before CC.
Hahahahahahahahahahaha. Holy shit this is hilarious. Also he probably can't even see shit, that glitter probably blinded him like mace.
>>81298Also Askal you just spoke my feelings on the issue way more effectively than I could have.
>>81304Disagreement with a person making an alteration to their own creation while you're just there for the ride? It may just be a reflection of my personality but I don't see any reason why the reader should stop and say, "hey that's wrong" unless they are putting importance on the alteration. And considering they have no entitlement to the direction of the creation, it seems taking it too seriously to me.But I think this is a conflict of semantics. It sounds like you mean disagreement as in "that's not what I would have done" or "that doesn't seem quite right to me" while I mean disagreement in "this is stupid, why is this guy doing this?" or "ugh, he's ruining the story for me" in the context of my post which I stopped caring about halfway through bluh>>81308I agree. I find the trolls so fun because they're over the top but I do miss my kid bros and their much less dramatic, more to my speed interactions. The DM analogy was used because I did actually consider what my reactions would be to a psychotic bitch forcing herself on a sweet guy who wanted nothing to do with her:... in a novel I'm invested in (WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS. [Authour], YOU BETTER HAVE A GODDAMN GOOD REASON FOR THIS)... in a game session (HAHAHAHAHA DON'T STOP DUDE, KEEP THE SCENE GOIN)
>>81308I just can't wait until things start HAPPENING again. IT seems like every time the trolls story hints at really interesting stuff with the characters, they just cut away to shipping. Then cut away from that for more shipping. Then cut from that for a little more shipping, then something interesting, which then cuts back halfway to shipping.
I don't know if I have an image that can accurately reflect my reaction to this update. This will have to do for the time being.
Is it really shipping if it's the author doing it? Honestly, I don't think so. In my mind, shipping has a "what-if" quality, where people consider the emotional and romantic qualities of the characters divorced from the details of the plot. If the author construes the plot in such a way that two characters become romantically engaged, that's not shipping, that's the story the way it was intended. To suggest that the author is engaging in shipping seems to me to be suggesting that the author is perverting their own work for the sake of the relationships, that there is some higher version of the story that the author is ignoring. I think that's silly.
Theory: the troll arc is meant to get people accustomed to weird shipping shit like the intermission was meant to get people accustomed to weird time shit and murder. You heard it here first.
Holy fuck you guys. Look at his face. Look at it. He's so fucking terrified ahahahaahhahahahahahahaha.
>>81317On one hand that's a rational stance to take but on the other Andrew draws fanart, romart, and crackship romart for his own stuff, so who knows?
> AH: Be abruptly accosted by Vriska.
>>81317Ship pandering then.
>>81317Of course it's shipping! Romance obviously has no affect on characterization or emotional arcs, and those things are entirely dissevered from an essentially humorous plot whose primary purpose is the development of a character ensemble.
Maybe the trolls' version of the game is meant to ensure the survival of their species?
Man, the troll arc is starting to drag for me too and I also don't care about the relationships, but I liked the intermission, which was torture for some people apparently, so this too shall pass and I will patiently wait. Also my fingers feel itchy when i don't draw now
Ok so it's becoming more apparent that Vriska really likes him but apparently watches troll porn in order to understand relationships. Kayana is going to have to some serious damage control to sort this out.
>>81321Tavros confirmed for Gary Stu>>81322>>ship panderingThat would mean doing this for the gratification of readers, though. But he's just mashing his toys together in smoochy sounds cause it's funny to him; otherwise he'd actually be following the popular trends of shipping. Aradia/Equius and Tavros/Vriska are, as you can see, both pairings that garner a lot more of the feelings that are pretty much the opposite of gratification. This thread's just so happy about it because we're a chan :3
>>81329Maybe it's just that the way he's messing around with the readers and forums this way seems immature.Which just brings us back to the "he's just fucking around with funny pictures" thing you were talking about.

>>81336I know it's kinda shallow way to read the comic ignoring a lot of the stuff in favor of the goofy faces but oh my god its too funny
>>81317>To suggest that the author is engaging in shipping seems to me to be suggesting that the author is perverting their own work for the sake of the relationships, that there is some higher version of the story that the author is ignoring. I think that's silly.Yeah, you're right. I think my main point in >>81297 is >i don't see us coming back to the very platonic earth kids feeling satisfied with those relationships. On that note, >>81318 might be the case I guess. it just feels apropos of nothing after so long with a sometimes overtly platonic overtone with the first four acts (up until the Mom and Dad shipping joke, which in retrospect seems to be Andrew loosening up a little in preparation for some ribbing in the future). Up until now we've been caught up with the game and external plot shit, and we've been forced to read between the lines of kids' chatlogs to speculate and infer stuff about their relationships with one another. With the trolls, we already know about game mechanics and don't need to hear them have "hey look, we're learning things" conversations. What you have left to explore is relationships and a lot of characterization, which is, storytelling-wise, a good thing. But I feel like this is overshadowing the kids and making them ... I don't know, flatter. The trolls are much more intense, probably because their arc is condensed by necessity.>>81298ok I will chill. I like to think these characters are more developed than paper dolls or action figures, though. On rereads there is not a whole lot that supports this in-story and I am probably taking this way too seriously. tl;dr Andrew does shit because it's funny or he likes it, and I have to DEAL WITH IT
>>81327>Also my fingers feel itchy when i don't draw nowExcellent. >>81338no this is a perfect way to read this comic
i always empathized with tavros a lot, even down to his twitchy not sure if want reaction to current eventsbut he and i are such pushovers, he'll probably just go along with whatever she does, even if she is a bad personunless he faints from excitement first
Aradia/Equius and Vriska/Tavros are likely to be the only canon pairs (as far as main characters go). He's doing this partially because it's funny/to make people angry a la Tav-in-a-wheelchair ("haha you wanted canon ships right? well here you go ENJOY"), but it's also character development for both of them and it's another one of those contrasting callbacks. I'm not sure what his incentive was for Equius/Aradia in the first place, but he did this update because it's another blueblood/lowblood pair with conflicting personalities, only the outcome is opposite for both.Aradia is a spitfire who lost her emotions, and one of Equius' motives is to give them back to her. Tavros is a pussy who can't feel what the trolls think of as half the emotional spectrum, and Vriska wants to make him feel it. The difference in how they go about it is that Equius' method is positive and actually works, while Vriska is destructive and is doomed to end in failure. Dominance is reversed as far as colour goes--Aradia(red)/Equius(blue) and Vriska(blue)/Tavros(red) though it's dominant women all the way, maybe AH has a thing for that, I dunno. Equius repressed it pretty deep, like he represses basically everything I think, Vriska was pretty open about it and blathers about how much she hates him if given the chance. And then, you know, redrom vs. blackrom, love vs. hate, but that's obvious. There are more ties but I'm not gonna bother typing them out because blah blah no one cares.Half the fun of Homestuck is figuring out patterns in the story. Who cares about the pairing, the reason behind it is where it's at.>>81327These lines! They are good!
The length of the troll arc is a lot more manageable if you think of it not in terms of months spent but rather in terms of a summer vacation.Homestuck, the main story, has been going for a little over a year. So, Andrew's taken a summer vacation from it and told this side-story where he can afford to play fast and loose and absolutely wacky because when the summer's over these characters go back to the supporting cast. We'll have learned a few things and have had some laughs and smiles for their own sake (as not everything need build towards a main story purpose) but really this is our vacation from the main story, as well as the authour's.Also, remember that a lot of serialized stories (including webcomics) flow a lot better read all at once rather than drip-fed a few updates a day. It's hard to clear your mind and start over but if you read how much we have of Hivebent or Homestuck so far it flows much better. No week-long hiatus, no days spent fretting about this or that tense situation. This makeout scene's taken like three days so it feels all-encompassing. Read it in the archives and it takes maybe five-minutes and feels like a brief diversion.
>>81344>Aradia/Equius and Vriska/Tavros are likely to be the only canon pairsWell at least you said that here instead of in the forums because if anybody says something like that in the forums we all know what would happen, right?
I had a feeling something like this would happen. >>81264It's just going to get worse from here. In a proper kismesis, "BOTH PARTIES HAVE TO HATE EACH OTHER EQUALLY, I MEAN LIKE TRUE HATE." In that case, the relationship may be an ugly one, but at least it's stable, with each side getting what they "want" out of it. But here we have Vriska on one side of the relationship, who actually holds that kind of hate, and Tavros on the other side, who is simply afraid. And while Tavros is strong enough to say "no" - the "apologize" incident proved it - he's may or may not be strong enough to actually *do* anything about it. Which leaves him in the situation of being at the mercy of someone who despises him in a romantic way. There may be a lot of ways this could go, but none of them will be good for Vriska's likability as a person (and the most obvious answers are probably the worst). Also, as an aside to bring this up to the current topic instead of being a post from three hours ago: personally, I find the exploration of an alien culture's concept of attraction fascinating (and feel as though it will serve some vague, important purpose later), but I can absolutely understand why people would be superlatively tired of it by now. Whatever it's all supposed to mean, it's definitely not what a lot of us "signed up for".
>people dismissing homestuck's literary complexityWhat's the matter? Too DEEP for you?Oh, and I don't know why you guys want the troll arc to end so quickly. After we get to cA you'll want another 100 pages, I can feel it in my heart.
>>81347That is why I am not going anywhere near the forums with that phrase.Somebody did formspring him about GATA though and he's only pretended to break that up (:
-Troll readers with tedious side-story-Troll readers with disturbing, manipulative couplings-Troll readers with the simple knowledge that you're trolling them-Risk losing your hold on the audience because they get bored and/or frustrated into apathy-???-...profit?
>>81344>while Vriska is destructive and is doomed to end in failureI keep thinking along those lines, too. It's established that Vriska often makes lousy choices, fails, and then blames it on bad luck. I think we can all agree that what she's doing is not well-researched. So whatever it is, it's probably going to backfire.
>>81339>>I like to think these characters are more developed than paper dolls or action figuresThey are, now, but I meant that's what it is at the crux of the matter and that's likely how Andrew is regarding them instead of really sympathetic realistic people. HAHAHAHAHAI keep telling you guys, Andrew is the master. He is unbeatable. He gives you a pedestal to dance around and make fools of yourselves for his amusement and the amusement of everyone else who is in on the joke. This is why you have to take it easy.
Two possible explanations here, from what I can see.1) She tried to make him hate her back, and he is incapable of it so the mind control took incorrectly. She slumps in defeat.2) She tried to make him love her so that this would be even worse for him afterwards (or maybe because this might actually be her idea of red romance after all?), and then sighed and changed her mind.Personally I am reading it as #1 since she seems legitimately surprised that Tavros reacted to her mind control in the way he did. But I might be wrong.

Completely unrelated to what is at hand here with this TavrosxVriska thing, but I just thought about Jade in the Act 4 Flash. Her tower exploded because her dreambot exploded, and then she fell. And I'd like to think that's a long fall considering how we saw how tall the tower is in an update I can't immediately recall.Hopefully Bec will save her, but still, it's still kind of disconcerting to people that like her character. What if Bec isn't going to be her safety net? What then?Alright I'm done worrying about things we will learn about in Act 6.Troll time.

Speaking of Jade, I kinda have this half-baked theory in the back of my head about her and the troll arc. I mean what if it's not just Hussie showing us what happened to the trolls in their session, but someone showing Jade what the troll went through for some reason. Either to show her what the consequences of her mistake are, or better yet to show her what her mistake was in the first place? Just throwing it out there.

>>81467Yeah, I knew that. But that's just vague. >>81469This might be the best thing I've ever seen.
Hey guys, I made you a thing.I might end up making some more things later.
update. look at kanaya face. lol
UPDATE
She wishes to be the little trollboy.
> Kanaya: Boggle vacantly at these shenanigans.
Andrew has been indulging my insatiable hunger for goofy looking faces reacting to things.
Funny to see Kanaya genuinely distressed by something. But she is now apparently in the medium. Has the double mobius reacharound come into effect and she is connected to Equius, or is there more to it than that?
why is her face so...strange to me?
>>Andrew>The diabolical nature of Vriska's plot is softened somewhat if you consider she was clearly arranging an encounter she thought he would enjoy. Hence the elaborate Pan roleplay. It was not an attempt to take advantage of him, but an absurd and misguided plot to woo him. She only went for the mind control out of kneejerk anger, quite briefly. Then obviously reconsidered. So this was Vriska's confused, dysfunctional shot at redrom after all. Wow.
>>81558tsun~ tsun~
she should ask tavros to teach her how to be nice :[ now that her lusus is a sprite and does not need to eat anymore her murderous ways can be left behind
>>81552>>81557She looks upset rather than just stunned or even confused; she obv just fucked up in her role as a moirail AND let down Tavros by not being available to help also CG, CA, and prob a certain faction of the fandom may say she's a little jealous that Vriska's trying redrom on Tavos
>>81557I think that her face is almost always composed, with a trace of a smile. Aside from her BLUH moment and the grimace when she took off Tavros' legs, this may be the only other expression we've seen. It does look really different for her.
>>81558Wait, so she wanted Tavros to be her matesprite?Damn, and all this time I thought it was a kismesis thing.
>>81563So did I, really. But apparently she's just that socially retarded.>>Andrew again>Without any sort of right or wrong about it, this is just the way someone of her kind views romance and goes about it. Aggressively and predatorially.>You could even postulate that paralyzing him in the first place was part of the entire courtship process for her, though possibly a subconscious one. Spiders paralyze their victims. Perhaps not their mates, but the principle of predation applies more broadly here to romance as well. She just happened to do so to the guy she was zeroing in on years in advance. And when the time came to make her move, he was helpless to get away. Perfectly logical by her mindset. All she needed to do was craft a clever scenario to make him fall for her, like dressing up as a fairy and enacting his favorite fantasy.>Of course it was a spectacular failure, but it was all executed in a way that made perfect sense to her.
>>81318my god, anon...>Andrew, re: "Will there be romance between the kids in the story?">At this point it's impossible for me to say what definitely won't happen with the story.>But because of the parallels between the troll story and the kid story, I think we get little clues about stuff. About the meanings and symbolic significance of events that had no reason to alert us at the time, which through their troll parallels become clearer, or at least make you say "Hmmm...">For instance, John had no idea that crashing a rocket device through a sleeping girl's bedroom symbolically punches his one way ticket to smooch city. Such was the clear value of that particular unit of symbolic currency. If only he hadn't been in such a hurry...

Her behavior has always been largely uncaring and she always boasts about being able to lure hordes of dead FLARP players to her lusus. She just rolled with it for her own interest, and she's responsible for her own actions if her own survival is solely dependent on her. oh hey I'm disagreeing with the author of a webcomic would you look at that

yeah it's me drawing more ghostbusters bullshit
A planet full of children could only breed romance as horrible as this.
Kanaya sums my feelings up pretty well.
>>81592It's like Lord of the Flies with rape instead of murder.
ahahaha Kanaya's facein my head I hear a soft, whispered "oh no"
i hope kanaya doesnt jump to any conclusions and run off from her computer before seeing vriskas change of heart :[
>>81596More like rape and murder. Them troll-kids is crazy.>>81600Hopefully she's too thunderstruck to take her eyes off the screen and she sees the scene play out entirely.
>>81591Keep going.I really like this.
Hahaha, these last few updates were the best updates. Half the internet is flipping its shit sideways over it.Am I alone in first believing that Kanaya's reaction is one of heartbreak, or something close? Everyone seems to think she's grossed or weirded out, but I figured it'd be calm confusion if that was the case, not wide-eyed distress.Nevermind I ship Kanaya/Vriska, I already understood it was one-sided and muddled, which makes this all the more hilariously awkward.
>>81606I think part of it is that, as her partner in moirallegiance, she's kind of overwhelmed by how massively Vriska has managed to dig herself into a hole while she was gone.I think another part of it might be that she was hoping their relationship could become something more and that hope has been dashed - but given how cagey Kanaya has been (even with herself!) about her true feelings for Vriska, it's hard to know this part for sure.
>>81608 She can also be simply amazed at not seeing Vriska's fascination with horn boy for what it truly was. I don't think any of the trolls thought about this reality even in simple ridicule to her.
>>81608>>81609I'm pretty sure Kanaya's reaction isn't one of the slighted lover, but probably something more akin to "I LEAVE FOR 5 MINUTES AND EVERYTHING GOES TO SHIT!"THIS IS WHY WE CAN'T HAVE NICE THINGS!
>>81609Karkat totally called it man, remember?
Kanaya's reaction is exactly what I did upon seeing that.
Aw, Kanaya. :(
>>81606I'm not a Kanaya/Vriska shipper but that was my assumption too so maybe you're not too far out there.
>CG: YOUR HATE'S TOO DULL FOR A PROPER KISMESIS, IN MY OPINION. >CG: BASICALLY ANY FEATURE OF YOUR EMOTIONAL PROFILE THAT USUALLY MAKES SOMEONE VIABLE IN THE REDROM DEPARTMENT MUST BE TOTALLY FRIED. >CG: YOUR BLACKROM POTENTIAL'S PROBABLY TOAST TOO. >>81591GOOD>>81548ALSO GOOD>>81573pfffftt ahahaha
maybe she looks so alarmed because she is also concerned for poor tavros
>>81621 So whether or not Vriska feels anything for Tavros he's more of a last hope for hate love for her?
>>81596That sounds absolutely awful!
>>81624That's what I was thinking. I think she's more upset at Vriska being an evil manipulative bitch on poor crippled Tavros than the idea of the two of them actually having a thing. I'm looking forward to Kanaya ripping into her later.
Oh hey, thread's autosageing. Maybe somebody should make a new one.
>>81634But it's only been one day!
>454 posts and 88 images omittedI NOW KNOW /co/'s GREATEST WEAKNESS : SHIPPING
>>81611Oh, I totally agree with you there; the most likely reason for this is just that Vriska has managed to create this nonsensical situation (and scare the shit out of Tavros) in the short time she's been left unsupervised. I'm just saying, we can't rule out that there was some kind of love from afar that got jossed on top of that.>>81634We usually wait until the lame duck thread has left the front page before making its successor.

>>81652Left eye.
>>81652Left eye. Right-facing sprites are the "canon" ones, left-facing sprites are mirrors.
>>81644Never mind I just overlapped the sprites, it just looks like the grubsprite is missing its tail because it's behind the screen and then cut off.
Today's ship forecast: Tavros<>Vriska with a side order of Kanaya<3Vriska
>>81663no way Tavros <> Vriska is ever going to happen manI'm just not getting any moirail vibes here at all
maybe <> really means "oh gog put me down and leave me alone i am saving myself for someone i am not terrified of"
oh sweet john and ringo no ):
>>81665 Until Vriska finds someone more impressionable then Tavros he's the "easiest" one to make a mate out of. Too bad Tavros just doesn't like her to really hate her like one eye wants him to. ONE EYE, ONE EYE. NO ONE WANTS TO WILLINGLY MAKE OUT WITH YOU
>>81668if she wanted someone impressionable she could just hit up gamzee
>>81663How about (Vriska <3 Tavros) -8o Kanaya? Seems like ideal circumstances for the local auspistice to finally settle down on the relationship she wants to manage (and maybe sneak in some <> Vriska on the side).
>>81670 Just because he ingests Barbiturates on a daily basis doesn't mean he's impressionable, just blacking out from time to time.>>81672 ...What?
>>81673An auspistice manages a relationship between two clients who would otherwise be incapable of working together. Kanaya already has Vriska as a moirail (singleton client), and has mediated on behalf of Tavros in the past, and it's clear at this point that a third party would be needed for Vriska and Tavros to approach anything even resembling stability. So, I postulated a pairing of Vriska <3 Tavros, auspicitized by Kanaya who would also continue to guide Vriska in general. Love triangle solved, with minimal casualties and nobody disintegrating into kismesis.
I wonder who ends up trying to help or cheer up Vriska now that she's all depressed about Tavros.
>>81675no oneshe continues to be sad and alone.
>>81676Nope. Bad things only happen to Tavros. He is the bad luck lighting rod that protects the other 11 trolls. So Clearly Tavros will be the one stupid enough to try to help her since she's all mopey and it's not like he can escape. Crawling is pretty slow .
>>81668I would. :|>>81676;_;
>>81677Nah, she has it too. The difference between Tavros' bad luck and Vriska's bad luck is that Tavros is a sweet kid who doesn't deserve all the bad stuff that happens to him, while everything bad that happens to Vriska is all her fault.THEY WERE MADE FOR EACH OTHER
>>81680Actually Tavros also deserves everything because he is so nice and nice people are annoying.
>>81681Vriska you forgot the 8 in "because."
>>81674This is pretty much what I was thinking too, yeah. Also I think I have watched Double Rainbow Flash at LEAST as many times as I have watched anything Andrew actually put out.

You know what, the mother sprite is horrifying.
>>81685This is funnier than it should be.But thank you for reminding me of something I wanted to say earlier. The fact that the [entire planet] is Lord of The Flies for trolls is something I find really fascinating. Adults are gone all the damn time, everyone is pretty much left alone to train themselves for their hoped-for future roles in the Alternian Space Empire, and the most senior individuals on the planet are probably a handful of very weary 18 year-olds acting as planetary government/babysitters.I wonder if there is segregation by age cohort? I wonder if the existing blue-blood and purpleblood aristocracies help to set trolls like Vriska and Equius up? I wonder what happens When The Adults Come Back.
Poor Kanaya. :(Mothersprite is pretty neat though.
