Personally, I'm not much of a shipper but I liked Sokka and Suki. They're just two really sweet, likable characters who are...very sweet and likable as a couple. Plus they would have really badass post-battle sex.

Canon-couples for me, but I also like Tyzula, Ursoda, and a few varieties of Toph ships (the Hakoda x Toph one was actually an interesting idea and I've seen Toph x Iroh, once. She was a grown woman by then in both instances, thankfully.)

The boring, canon ones, along with some of the "not canon but they may as well be as far as the fandom is concerned" ships like Tyzula and Smellershot.

However, I do like to diversify, so... Zukaang (plenty of subtext to support it, and for humor purposes I prefer it as a one-sided source of frustration for Zuko), Zursa (see Zukaang, but even more emphasis on the latter part for obvious reasons), Sukkoph (Sokka's a pimp, Suki's open-minded, and Toph's a double pimp), Lorohli (in the past when they were younger; how else did you think two dancer girls got such high-ranking jobs?), Junei (he bumps into her on his misadventures and hijinks ensue), Jetko (because c'mon), Tysukka (more likely to be an arrangement than an actual relationship), Toko (we've already discussed why it's awesome), Ursana (only in an AU where she's taken captive and made a Fire Nation royal handmaiden), and a bunch more that I wasn't able to remember or make stupid abbreviations for because I'm so tired right now.

Tyzula's the only ship I've ever really gotten into in any fandom ever, and I, honestly, don't care for anything else. Although, I do recognize the canon relationships. I don't really have a reason that I can explain in words other than what Dr. Genome said.

All the ships in OPs pic are my favorites. That said, I'll accept or at least tolerate pretty much any ship as long as they acknowledge it's crack (if it is), except pedoships, Zutara, and Taang. Not too big on Tokka either, but as long as they aren't calling Suki a man-stealing bitch, it's okay. Sukkoph is preferred, though. I guess if I thought about it long enough I could come up with some more that are bottom-tier or just don't make sense to me, but overall I don't care.

I don't think anyone really needs to ask me what my ship is... XD

As for why I ship it, maybe it's because it reminds me of all my ABUSIVE FAILED RELATIONSHIPS WITH FIRE PRINCESSES ;_:

All the canon Ships + Tyzula.

Aang/Katara/OnJi/Meng (Avatar fangirl forusome). Aangzula (with Tyzula and/or Kataang thrown in for extra hotness), Sukaang (sometimes with Katara), Maang (with Katara for delicious vanilla/chocolate mix or as part of Maiko/Kataang swaping).

Ursoda/Ursya, Junro, Maiko+Jing (for some reason never cared about Song), Smellershot.

Sukka is kinda untouchable for me.

I can always accept Yusukka, Also Sukkoph and Tysukka, but I don't ship those two actively. Tokka on its own was never my type, neither Tykka.

I find all the canon ships sweet, but the only one I really, actively ship is Maiko. It's part of what drew me into the show and I still love the crap out of it. I can't completely explain why--I just find them both really interesting characters separately, and really interesting together. I like what they bring out in each other I guess, and I think they have some of the best dramatic moments as a couple in the show (Boiling Rock especially). But yeah. I just love them.

I also like Tyzula, but I think I view it in a way more depressing and unhealthy light than the rest of fandom does. :* Cute fanart of them is still cute though.

My One True Ship is always going to be Zusong (Zuko and Song). It's all subjective, I know, but I felt like there was such a connection between the two of them. I felt like if anyone could heal Zuko's emotional scars, it was Song. If I had been in charge, I would have had the series end with Zuko abolishing the monarchy, leaving rule in the hands of a parliament, then returning to Song's farm to replace her ostrich-horses. And then he ends up staying forever and becomes an accomplished ostrich-horse breeder and they have a hundred beautiful babies and live happily ever after. ;_;

I did dream up a Zusong fan-comic at some point (which is never going to happen because I am lazy as fuck). I tried to streamline it with the canon ending, too, and the pairing isn't necessarily romantic. I still think it was a good idea, so I AM GOING TO TELL YOU ABOUT IT. Spoiler'd in case you don't give a fuck. A year or so after being crowned, Zuko, in a fit of guilt over the girl whose kindness he repaid with sheer dickery, slips out of the palace and makes his way to the Earth Kingdom to apologize and replace her ostrich-horses. When he reaches the farm, he finds that it was burnt to ash in the Fire Nation attack. Some survivors point Zuko in the direction of Ba Sing Se, saying that Song went there to help the wounded. He finds her there, working in a clinic. And everything's gone to shit. The influx of people taking refuge in Ba Sing Se led to cramped conditions, poor sanitation, and the spread of disease. Also, Song's mother was killed when the farm was burned. Zuko, overcome with guilt, can't bring himself to be honest with her, but opts to stay a while and help in whatever way he can. Blah blah blah relationship development blah. And then suddenly AZULA. Except it's not. Not really. She's a long-term patient at the clinic (I dunno she escaped prison or whatever) and she is totally out of her mind. Like, Casca-Post-Eclipse out of her mind, can't even speak. Anyhow, she's in Song's care, and Song is pretty much the only person she trusts. Song named her Ming since she couldn't speak for herself. Blah blah more character development. Azula/Ming warms up to Zuko and Song is all "Oh wow she pretty much hates everyone except me this is very good." It's all very cute. Eventually, Zuko confesses about his real identity (but not Azula's, wanting to give her a second chance) and at first Song is le pissed. Predictably she forgives him because that's just how she rolls, but not until she's kicked him in the nuts a few times. Blah blah blah. Zuko decides it's time to go back to the Fire Nation, and invites Song to come with him and live in the palace as a physician. She refuses, opting to stay where she's needed most. Really the whole thing builds up to THIS ONE LINE: "I don't belong in Zuko's world. Although... he would have been welcome in mine." Zuko goes back to Fire Nation and it's one of those "he never saw x again, but never forgot about blah blah blah" endings. OKAY I AM DONE.

Honestly, the only ship I really can't stomach is Zutara. I'm pretty much okay with everything else.

Though, my favorites are Kataang, Azulaang, Maiko, Tokka, Ty Zula and Taang (not Zutarian Taang though.)

Pretty much all of them, really.

Although I am quite partial to a Suki/Ty Lee/Sokka threesome.

My motto? So long as it's hot, I don't mind!

I'll ship anything that seems hot at the moment, but the canon ships are probably my favorite: Kataang and Maiko mainly, with Sukka as a sometimes-forgotten ship I still like (I blame this on the relative lack of Sukka fanart compared with the others). While there's a lot of really sweet stuff out there for Kataang, Hina's the one who has really built up Maiko, and so the hawt way she portrays them defines the ship for me.

I love Tyzula, because it's hot and adorable and has so many potential "readings" in it. Frankly I consider it as canon as the canon ships. Even though I know it's not "real", when I think of Tyzula I never think of it as a ship I'm having to ship.

The only ship I've really "actively" shipped is Sukkoph, and while I don't think too much about it nowadays, back when I wrote my story I enjoyed the ship because Toph wasn't left out, and because the three of them had some really fun scenes together in the show. I think it also ties into my desire to see adventures of Toph and Sokka, and Sukkoph is a great way for them to still be close while still having Sukka. When I wrote "Blind in the Water" I kept working with each of the three's relationship with the others, and I could never find strong chemistry on Sokka's part for Toph. And I don't like fics that try to patch that sort of thing up by saying "he had always loved her secretly" or something. For me, keeping those two the same (just, y'know, plus sex thanks to Suki) preserves their characters the way I like them.

Maitara's another favorite of mine, just from the few pics and fics that are out there, and all the wonderful contrasts that would make it a steamy thing. :3

But overall, it's usually on a pic-by-pic (or fic-by-fic) basis. A single well-written bit of smut will make me seriously consider a pairing I never had before thought of.

I love all three of the main canon ships. Kataang because it's Epic, sweet, incredibly romantic, and adorable. Maiko for the hotness, smexy cuddletiems, their devotion and fidelity to each other, and how their personalities balance each other out. Sukka because Suki tended to bring out more of Sokka's angsty warrior side (which I love and lament not seeing more of) while at the same time being this sweet average and lulzy couple.

My first Avatar ship was actually Jinko. Mostly because of Zuko's clueless dweebitude on his date with her. I also like Smellershot (for the proliferous fic potential), and The Duke/Toph because... it's cute. I had a bit of a fleeting fancy for Tokka back when it looked like Suki had bitten it and I still think it's cute but I'm not much interested in it.

A teensy part of me also kind of likes Toko, Taang, and Maitara.

I ship Kataang because I have a weakness for cute main boy/main girl pairings where they grow together over the course of an adventure or several years. Maiko because I also have a weakness for childhood friends, plus they're hilarious and sexy and badass. Sukka because it's just sweet and it feels natural, and because she made him wear a dress and see that girls could be just as good as guys.

Sukkoph because they make one hell of a good team, Tyzula because of the subtext and I just think they're hot and awesome together. Zukaang because really, what's not to love? Epic FoeYay and confusion and obsession and friendship and soulmatey-ness, it just rocks. Also Maitara because of the Ship Mates trope...and because it's hot.

June/Iroh because it amuses me, Smellershot because of the subtext and the potential. Yue/Sokka because I thought it was a beautifully done tragic romance with amusing moments, and I liked Yue a lot. Toph/Katara because of "The Runaway" and their story in "Tales of Ba Sing Se", Azutara because it's hot and they'd complement each other nicely.

Other minor sideships: Toph/Zuko, Jet/Yue, Zuko/Jet, Jin/Haru, Song/Pipsqueak, Toph/Teo, Toph/Smellerbee, Toph/The Duke, Hakoda/Ursa, Sokka/Aang, Aang/Teo, Azula/Jet.

I'm not here to argue that Tyzula is canon, I know it isn't, so don't compare us to the Zutards. But unlike Katara and Zuko, they had some real chemistry together, and Ty Lee was pretty much Azula's only real friend. I doubt it would have been a very healthy relationship if they really did hook up, but I was never expecting that to happen. I think the creators just subtly slipped us some subtext, knowing there were certain fans out there who'd like it. Tyzula's just hot and they seem so natural together. If you like Sokkla or some other ship, no one here's going to jump you. I think some Sokkla fans have developed a persecution complex since they're in the minority. I personally don't think they go well together because Sokka has enough bitches as it is and there's no way they'd be all lovey-dovey and romantic together, it would be hatesex or a one night stand. I do like some of the art, though.

I would just like to officially give major props to all not insane Tyzula fans in this thread. It has always been my, and many other peoples’ that I’ve spoken to in the past, experience that Tzyula fans were some of the most delusional and stubborn shippers in the fandom, right after Zutarians. The posters in this thread however have completely flown in the face of those said past experiences. Instead of trying to spend all your time defending a clearly canon ship that the creators obviously meant to imply with hidden subtext and subtle hints, you are instead able to enjoy the crackship for what it is; two girls, one more dominate than the other, vs. one much more experienced in the ways of love than the other, and the crazy hot sexy time adventures they have together. You have my most sincere thanks and congratulations, you have somewhat restored my faith in the ability of sound minded fans to enjoy something that’s not canon without obsessing over it to the point where they believe it is canon, and will accordingly harm, maim, and kill anyone that has the audacity to disagree and say it isn’t. Katara joins her dad and Ursa on a trip to the Fire Nation to visit with her step brother while Mai is conveniently sent somewhere to do some thing for her people.

I don't think that's common. It seems like Zutara shippers ship Sokka with Suki most of the time, Taang, and Mai Lee if they don't kill Mai off. The Sokkla shippers are just out there doing their own things.

Thanks for answering and yes, Sukka in Zutara fics far outnumbers the amount of Sukka that you'll find in Kataang fics. Some of those Kataang people are downright hostile toward Suki's character. It's extremely rare to find people who ship all of the canon couples..

It doesn't bother me. It isn't incest because they aren't biologically related. Since they weren't raised as siblings, there would be no familial bond. If they were raised together as brother and sister, that would be creepy.

People are going to ship what they want to, and they aren't going to let real world "hang-ups" they may have with things like pedophilia, rape, torture, incest, step-siblings...ness, or infidelity get in the way of their OTP. Besides, we're talking about a group of people who wrote fics where Zuko rapes and brands Katara with Firebending and she ends up enjoying it. (They call it "dark romance" but those are rape/torture fics.) This is not the group who would get squeamish over something as mundane as Katara and Zuko becoming step-siblings.

Almost nothing creeps me out more than Zucest. Not only are they blood, but they don't even like each other, and Azula uses him for a chew toy. But yes, incest ships are pretty creepy. But then I find a good 70% to 80% of all Avatar ships creep me out for one reason or another. The canon ships don't take me out of my comfort zone so I just stick with them.

I remember thinking most of those stories had the exact same plot: Zuko captures Katara, rapes Katara, Katara develops Stockholm syndrome after Iroh tells her Zuko's sob story and she realizes that Zuko is the Rapist With A Heart of Gold, Zuko brands Katara out of "love" and makes her his Firelady.

Ty Lee making that face is completely platonic. ANYONE would have looked sympathetically at someone admitting they were seen as a monster. Ty Lee wasn't necessarily attached to Azula, she just kinda was infatuated with the IDEA of being a friend of this "o so great" princess, it seemed.

And you can't really use the whole "apology" as a support that Azula truly cares for Ty Lee. How many times did Azula do something evil to Ty Lee as compared to Azula caring for Ty Lee? Let's see: she ripped her outta the place she loved, she nearly killed her, she insults her, and the list can go on. Ty Lee also seemed as happy as ever after the war. She was certainly happy to see her when she first showed up, until she was being coerced into going along with the mission. She fawns over Azula constantly in The Beach, and tells her how smart she is for her plan to take over Ba Sing Se. Whether you believe Tyzula could have happened or not, you have to admit Ty Lee genuinely cared about Azula and thought very highly of her. Azula, in turn, seemed to care about Ty Lee at least a little bit. I doubt she would have been as broken up over the betrayal otherwise. I can see her getting angry over Mai, but it was Ty Lee that made her snap. Had it just been Mai, I think she would have been able to move on. Ty Lee was the only one she really seemed to care for who was not family.
