There are some pairings -- Jet/Azula being one of them, also Sokka/Azula and Azula/Haru just to name a few off the top of my head -- which I find kind of hilarious but could never actually ship myself. I would never read or write fic for any of those pairings -- my interaction with them pretty much stops at...you know, things like this thread. Digging around for fanart for the amusement of myself and others.

The "crack" pairings I love are the ones that do actually make sense once you think about it, even if you have to squint a little to see the potential. Then it's not really crack -- it's a CHALLENGE. ;3

I kinda like Jet and Azula. Pairings that people like just because they're hot are very common, most people just don't want to admit it because it sounds shallow. haha I like Jetzula mostly for this type of scenario.

This is probably a big reason why Zutara was so huge: from a dramatic-conventions perspective, it actually makes sense. It's the plot of every romantic comedy, ever. The leads always dislike each other when they first meet. Relationships like that are less common in real life, but they do happen. Going from "I hate you and I am going to kill you" to "I have decided that hot, grinding sex is an acceptable substitute for your death" is exaggerating a "normal" combative relationship for effect, just like more harmonious relationships get idealized into love-at-first-sight/true-love-is-eternal scenarios.

This is a big part of why I hate Zutara, but can't blame some of them for thinking it might happen. Far too many "romance" stories of enemies-turned-lovers made them expect the same thing to happen in Avatar. It didn't, and this makes me glad, because I really hate that plot device. Kataang went the route of the couple obviously destined to be together but won't realize/admit it until the end of the series, but I forgive that because they're a cute pairing. My friend requested this, as Smellerbee is her favorite forever. She had just written a really great fic with this crackpairing, and it was SO well-written, she made it quite believable. I honestly think this would work pretty well.

I hesitate to even put any of my mountains of Tyzula art in this thread, because CALL ME RETARDED IF YOU WILL, but I don't think Tyzula is that "odd."
