Confession time, /a/. Secret Zutara whore? Fapped to Toph foot fetish porn? Thought Azula was a lame villain? Got drunk and blew a 40-year-old Aang cosplayer? Here's where you let it all go.

I'll start: instead of, you know, paying attention, I wiled away the many hours of a course on American foreign policy this past semester by writing random Avatar yuri porn.

There a difference between "cartoon made for kids that has a wide age demographic of fans" and a product that has a "reading level" to show how well such a book can help kids learn how to read.

Ah. Well anyway, I wouldn't put the various Nickmag comics on the level of the Sozin's Comet novelization.

I'm on my phone right now, I can't access much. Is the link to the "Private Wang Fire" kid's book or something else because that's what I was referring to. I'm pretty sure the one I'm thinking of is a part of the same series of books as stuff like "Love Potion No. 8."

It's a link to "Private Fire," but noooo, it's a comic that was included in the Season 3 DVDs. rufftoon worked on it. I don't think they ever made an actual book like what you're thinking of.

Not all zutarans are terrible, just most of them.

I wouldn't actually mind the ship if it wasn't for that majority. What makes the ship so terrible (apart from the shippers being batshit insane) is the fact is, 99% of Zutara has Zuko and Katara written completely OOC, which is understandable for Katara, since they only use her as a shell for the authors self insert. But if they're doing it so they can ficfuck Zuko, then what's the point of changing the personality of the object of your affection? I mean, it's not even Zuko or Katara at that point. So why not just write a smutty fuck fic with your own OC's... it's pretty much what they're doing anyway.

I know Iroh is awesome. I know he can take on a dozen men and still come out without a single burn on him. But I thought him going from a fat old man to having a fully-toned six-pack in just a few weeks was pretty contrived, especially considering the fact that he was in a stone cell for that entire time. Really, just show him working out and I would have completely believed that he wasn't out of commission yet.

No.85392

Well think about it. He spent a couple weeks in that cell and from what we can tell worked out near constantly. So let's say 10 hours of sleep a night since he needs the energy.

That gives him 14 hours a day to work out. Of course he didn't do it all the time, but he probably exercised more than he didn't.

If that was your only activity all day, you'd get a six-pack pretty quick as well.

I'm a big Azula fan!

...but her escape from being shot directly by 4 people at the end of The Chase was bullshit. I don't care what superhot blue fire shield she had going, there's no way she could have lived through that without at least being horribly crippled.

Azula was way too much of a super godhax character pre-breakdown. She could beat everyone, out-think anyone, lie without changing her heartbeat even though Toph is the only person who even knows how that works. The list goes on.

No.85422
>>85403

Plenty of people can do that, it's not that hard to think someone who's as conniving and brilliant as she is (with the training she's had) to not have such things happen when she lies. No police officer can tell someone's lying 100% of the time, especially when they go off the "comfort checkpoints".

She only fought a focusless Zuko, still learning Katara, an evenly matches Aang and that's really it. Iroh probably could have defeated her. Her outsmarting people was why she was always able to defeat people with relative ease, and Iroh still out-smarted her each and every single time. She was one of the most powerful characters in the series and well was on her way of becoming the best firebender in the series (probably the best 14 year old firebender ever), but she was on Aang (pre-firebending/earth bending master) level and still below the former "Dragon of the West".

Alright fine. Confession: after watching Avatar, I've found that romances and relationships people have around me ring hollow, without any real emotional depth. They seem so repulsive in a way, and when I think about the love that these fictional characters can share at times, I feel that I will never have a relationship with someone that I could honestly call a soulmate. ;_; but it won't stop me from trying

No.85861
>>85859
Anon, the reason the Avatar ships ring true to you is that, deep down, you know that people can have relationships like that in real life. The real couples around you, the ones that repulse you -- are you really in a position to judge whether or not someone's love is real and worthwhile? Sometimes love doesn't move mountains. Sometimes it just washes the dishes. That's okay too.

Agreed. The sweatdrops in season 3 weren't a big deal since they were small and not really obtrusive. But the flapping arms, big red head, and "#" angry veins made it look like your typical anime-wannabe that just shoe-horned in animu tropes (Teen Titans, Totally Spies, Kappa Mikey, etc) instead of implementing them in an aesthetically placing way.

No.85894

To be fair, Azula was stopping stuff that we've seen her fire take out before, it was just an attack from all four elements and a boomerang, it wasn't a concentrated blast from several barrels of blasting jelly.

Plus, at that moment, she was a lot more adept at Firebending than Zuko was when he stopped the blast, so using a (presumably) stronger fire shield to stop a smaller threat doesn't sound all that difficult to swallow.

No.85895
Still not too fond of the big explosion after her fire shield.

No.85896

The only real threat was Iroh. None of the other benders are powerful enough to take on Azula. But Iroh was knocked out first, so his absence makes the whole escape thing plausible.

Beat everyone? Okay, first, watch "the drill". Take careful note of who won, and who lost.

If that's not enough, let's talk cross roads of destiny. Her big, awesome, holy-shit-the-villian-won. Watch the fight with Katara. Katara completely kicks her ass, to the point she has to be saved by Zuko. Not exactly a great showing for her.

Or take her earlier fights. Yes, she manages to hold out against Aang in “the Chase” but given he was sleep deprived, that’s not really a great showing. The only people Azula really holds clear victories over are Zuko and Suki.

People forget this, because she actually managed to win the season two finale. But honestly, anyone saying she is invincible is just wrong. She lost, or tied, a lot. I remember back when season two was happening, people were complaining that she was to weak, especially after her scary introduction.

No.85901
>>85900

Who won the fight? Aang wasn't didn't win the actual fight, he ended it by causing the drill to go boom. Until that point, Aang was getting his ass handed to him.

I'll watch the crossroads fight again, response in a second.

No.85902
>>85901

And in the crossroads, she's taking on both Aang and Katara evenly. After that, we don't see much of her fight with Katara, outside of Azula dodging an ice-blade and then falling into the water-trap. Sure, she requires Zuko's assistance but that's far from her being owned.

After that, she in one strike knocks Aang out of the park, and then helps Zuko destroy Katara's defenses (which were enhanced with her "water armor"). Then the Dai Li ruined Aang's comeback, followed by Azula's infamous kill-shot on Aang.

That's exactly what happened, which by the way happened at night when Katara's powers were going to be augmented more than Azula's. That's far from Azula getting her "ass completely kicked".

Rewatch the episodes yourself.

No.85926
>>85901

Aang's goal was to destroy the drill, not kill Azula. Azula, by contrast, was trying to kill/stop Aang. One of these two succeeded, the other didn't.

Or as Mai put it, “We lost.”

>>85902
First, I disagree your claim that she take on Katara and Aang evenly . That fight had just started, arguing how each side was doing is stupid, as almost no fights in Avatar end that early. Hell, Zuko lasted that longer than that against Azula in Avatar State. The only fight between named character that was shorter was the second Katara-Zuko fight in Siege for North, and that was with a near dead Zuko.

Nor does it change the fact that without Zuko’s intervention Azula would have lost. She was trapped. Not to mention, Zuko held his own against Aang in the same time period.

Furthermore, her one striking Aang out of the fight isn’t that impressive, given Zuko just did the same thing (the reason he was able to help her). And needing Zuko’s help to take out Katara’s defenses, is again, not a good argument for someone who is supposed to be a ‘godhax’.

So let’s review.
Zuko knocks Aang out of the park.
Azula knocks Aang out of the park.
When Azula fights Katara, she has to be helped out by Zuko.
When Zuko fights Katara, he’s able to hold his own, and therefore, since Azula doesn’t need to help him, they’re able to double team Katara.

In other words, Zuko, Zuko, was more useful than Azula in that fight.

No.85927
>>85926

Mai’s sarcasm rivals that of Sokka, and on the mission of the drill, Aang obviously won. On the actual battle between the two, Aang was getting his ass handed to him left and right and only won the battle because of an interruption by exploding sludge. The fight was so obviously in Azula’s favor, that Aang had to refocus on the drill itself as a way to prematurely end the fight with Azula just to not practically be killed, along with what his mission was. The urgency was far more as a way to avoid azula than it was the destruction of the drill at that point.

And, as I already pointed out, Azula fell into a trap. Peyton Manning gets sacked sometimes, Jet Lee’s character dies sometimes, the friend you know who is simply the best at whatever game it is you play loses sometimes too. She needs Zuko’s help but even with the “hey, kind of stuck over here, can you break this tentacle” break we see absolutely nothing of Azula getting her ass kicked.

Which brings the next point, you complain about the brevity of the Aang/Katara vs. Azula fight? That lasted 3 to 4 times longer than the entire summation of the Katara/Azula fight put together. We don’t see enough of Azula/Katara, just a “dodge” and a “gotcha”. From Katara/Aang vs. Azula, we see two people needing to work together just to defend themselves from azula’s attacks, azula dodging Aang’s earthbending, and other general attacks, ending in a stalemate that doesn’t necessarily say that Azula is at a disadvantage until Zuko shows up (where the viewer goes under the assumption that Zuko’s become a good guy now).

And I was just literally listing the scene, Zuko launched aang as well. Azula did send him further and did it while aang himself was building as much momentum as Azula but like I said, I was literally describing the happenings of each scene.

And Zuko did nothing more than fight Katara with those old flotation noodles that kids use outside the pool to whack at each other. It was a stalemate, but does not say more of that Zuko therefore is far more efficient than Azula.

And just to draw from your school of thought, Katara nearly drowns Zuko (who’s aided by the Dai Li) not too long afterwards in one move (where she wasn’t even trying to fight him). So much for holding his own.

I think what the other Anon is trying to get at is Azula isn't really 100% godhax. She's a very powerful and tough villain, but she's had moments where she's been in trouble too. Before she snapped and started "slipping" in season three, I think her most obvious defeat was in "The Chase". She was clearly losing when the entire Gaang was taking her on, and if Iroh hadn't been there or if she hadn't taken him out of the fight, she really would have had her ass handed to her. She was retreating and "surrendered" as a distraction to think of a good way to escape. If she tried to keep fighting, she would have lost unless Mai and Ty Lee showed up to help even things out.

In "Crossroads", again, she wasn't invincible. I don't agree with the other Anon that Zuko was more useful or that she necessarily would have lost to Aang and Katara alone, though she might have. Zuko joining her was clearly a factor, and if she had to fight him as well, then she would have been in trouble again until the Dai Li showed up. But even if you take away the Dai Li, keeping the fight between the four main characters, there's no guarantee that Azula and Zuko would have won. I think Katara and Aang would have at least held them off long enough to escape, unless Azula got in another surprise attack.

tl;dr Azula is not invincible über-leet godhax. She's just very, very good at what she does.
