I ask because I am about to EMBARK ON A JOURNEY OF HAIR REMOVAL~ and would be grateful for any tips starting out.

For anyone else interested, shaving brush (Omega boar's hair), Proraso Pre/Post cream, and aftershave can be had rather cheap from Shoppers' Drug Mart. I've had the fortune of inheriting my razor from my grandmother so I can't advise there but the Merkur 33C and Weishis seemed like good deals. The actual razor blades, there doesn't seem to be any replacement for getting a sample pack online though. Not unless you want to be horribly ripped off.

As for shaving mug/bowl and stands, those are all unnecessary I think. I've just been using a $2 lidded soup bowl for my shaving soap and drying my brush either upright or upside-down in my woodworking vise but it doesn't seem to make much of a difference either way. I suspect the whole drying brushes upside-down thing is more tradition and aesthetics than anything.

Whiskey is always the best way to start a morning.

Also I've wanted to try wet shaving for a while, but I just never got around to it. One of these days.

Badgerandblade.com is your go to resource if you haven't been there already.

If you've tried wetshaving and like it, upgrade to a real badger hair brush. I spent about $56 on mine but it's lasting for years. I would never turn back to boar hair.

I really like Kiss My Face's shave lotion (look in organic sections of your super markets). It's not marketed as a lathering cream but it does lather really well. Mix it with another soap for even better results.

I bought a huge pack of derby razor blades that have been lasting for three years now.

Ultimately it's about your own patience. For a long time I was diligently using traditional wet shaving on my legs. But when it takes 40 minutes to (correctly) shave I just got tired of it. I still lather with Kiss My Face and use a brush sometimes, but I've fallen back to regular razor blades with pivoting heads for the sake of speed and convenience. The shave isn't as close but I'm the only one who cares about that.

Thanks, Dent. I'll try a badger hair after I get Christmas money then. Man, I don't think I'll ever do the cartridge razor thing again no matter how hard this turns out to be. Besides crappy shaves, it's freaking expensive. And I already take forever so o well~

How are these for sensitive skin? I use a normal razor now but I hate it because it's never as close as I want, but anything closer completely shreds my skin up due to the irritation

Used to, before I turned off shaving altogether. Are you using a safety razor, or using disposables with your own lather?

Wait aren't you a girl? You don't need to shave stupid, you can't have beards. Guys get beards, women get periods.

Starter kit? I approve.

I am sorely tempted to get back into double edge razor shaving.
