Not sure I like the turns of events. They went from micro events (satsuki and ryuko's personality clash) to macro (aliens conquer the world) in 10 minutes, and I fear it hurts the characters before they were fully fleshed out. Since all "big" plots always tend to take the spotlight. With only 8 episodes left I'm not sure we will see stuff like the elite 4 or Mako family being relevant anymore.

I thought this bit was kind of foreboding. What's the chance that he gets corrupted by the end or something?

Seriously, it's not. She's technically just giving her a massage, but the rapey vibes are mostly there because the animators think it's like totally hawt. It's not pleasant to watch, and it definitely upset me personally, but people ought to remember that subtext is not actually text. The SJW really need to stop acting like the show portrayed literal outright rape and pretending that people who aren't morally outraged to the extreme by this scene are all pro-rape misogynists/sex traitors. If the show gives any indication that Satsuki actually feels violated by her mom's actions then of course things will be different, but as it stands now the scene is just a reflection of the staff's twisted sense of what they find sexy (or a demonstration of Ragyo's wicket nature).

Her mother being controlling and abusive didn't start at this scene.

I will "defend" it as not being rape or sexual abuse, but that doesn't mean I find it appropriate. It just bugged me that people were making a big deal about it being something that it isn't. It was some kind of deep therapeutic massage with strong sexual overtones. I could have gone without it regardless of who was involved, and the fact that it was a mother/daughter thing made it even more uncomfortable, but it wasn't rape and it wasn't sexual abuse.
