Eh, it wasn't exactly bad, but it wasn't exactly as good as the regular show could be at its best either.

Thought that it had some good ideas and jokes, and wasn't essentially as horrible as people seemed to think that it was going to be, but it wasn't exactly hugely great either.

Something has to really go out of its way to hit a nerve for me for me to dislike it. The worst you'll usually hear from me is "That movie was average, I don't have a strong desire to see it again." Honestly, I find most bronies that criticise the movie to be hypocrites, as most of the problems it has are shared by the show:

- Flat antagonist? Try every antagonist except maybe Discord and Nightmare Moon.

Don't remind me. But if CG is getting cheaper like you say, then how come it still looks like shit? Look at TMNT 2012 or Transformers Prime or Beware the Batman. The human characters are lanky and frankly kind of ugly and the animation leaves lots to be desired as they can't ever match the action in a CG film like Kung Fu Panda. 2D on the other hand can have some very nice action like the Red X episode of Teen Titans or the entire Avatar series. CG has a fuck ton long ass way to go before it is a true proper replacement for 2D animation. Nevermind that CG also sucks dick at creating environments filled with life and NPCs. The cities in Transformers, Beware the Batman, and TMNT are barren wastelands for the most part.

All in all the song and the original singer gives this video a hell of a negative connotation. On the early stages of production, I just assumed it was gonna be about when she turned into Nightmare Moon with a bit of poetic license, but looks like they changed the connotation so she wouldn't even look bad for that.

So the fanbase still makes high quality vids, but is the fanbase kind of moving on and abandoning the pony mania? I don't blame them, the mediocre Season 3 eps and its atrocious finale and Equestria Girls smeared everything.

If there's one episode I will check out in Season 4 is the one obligatory for Discord because I'm still curious what Celestia planned with him after essentially neutering the character. God knows I hope it was worth raping the character with bad fanfiction writing (which it was based on fanfiction by a fanfic writer who just happened to have connections to the staff).

That aside, I no longer care much for this series.

Anyway, now that the 1080p Equstria Girls is out I finally watched it. Not as bad as I feared, about as good as I could realistically expect. Lots of the jokes made me laugh. There are tons of show episodes from all three seasons that were worse. 6/10.

I thought the movie was fine. I mean, it wasn't as good as the better episodes but it was watchable. Some good jokes, some pop songs, human Twilight acting like a horse and embarrassing herself in a charmingly goofy fashion. I definitely thought it was better than the cringe inducing season 3 finale, which people praised for some reason. My only real complaint would be to make Flash Sentry less generic cool dude. Couldn't they have made him a photographer or something so that the only plot relevant thing he did would make sense?

I personally like the show because it's well-animated, well-written, funny, and doesn't talk down to the audience. For me, I want to draw childrens' books or be an animator, so I want to keep tabs on what's going on in kids' media for when I'm ready.

Unfortunately, I do know people who are exclusively interested in shows with young kids just because they have a pedo kink, or anthro shows exclusively for yiffing, or shows where attractive males are bound and gagged while another guy (or girl) acts rapey over him every week. To them, it fits a kink, so it doesn't matter the quality of the show. Which in itself isn't inherently wrong, they're just specific kinks I side-eye over.

Recently read a FIM fiction about Pinkie Pie and Dan from Dan Vs.

Would Dan Vs have been more popular if Dan had a cheery social supportive Hench Girl with him as part of the main cast during his vendettas?

I think one of the reasons Dan Vs never caught on was because the show was too dry, bitter, cynical, and mean spirited in tone. Dan is an example of someone completely trampled by all the bad aspects of life, Elise is serious, and Chris is hesitantly supportive mixed with being the cautious voice of reason as he's forced into the things that happen around Dan. There was no joy in the show to help balance things out.

Essentially the show was, to make an argument Teen Titans without Starfire or Avatar without Sokka's comedic wit. As a result it wasn't very popular with kids as I think it outright depressed them.

I don't feel it would have been fanfiction-y. In Dan Vs Family Cruise Dan did begrudgingly admit that he may have wasted his life away with his obsession for revenge. Plus in Dan Vs Ski Trip he also said he doesn't like being eternally angry and vindictive at the world. That opens the door for some characterization.

If Dan Vs wasn't ended, then its ending could only be two things. Dan stays a bitter misanthrope or finds a balance somehow.

I declined to buy it because I dropped $35 on the Humble Double Fine Bundle earlier in the year, and that's a lot of money for me right now. Anyone else see this? One of the rare well animated pieces of fandom vids that the MLP fanbase has produced.

Though it has some flaws. Button's voice can get really grating/irritating (especially when he's screaming) and the concept seems to overly rely on the idea that he's a whipping boy punching bag Loser Protagonist who excessive bad shit happens to him in all the snippets of the pilot. I don't like Loser Protagonists.

So after Fighting Magic was canned, Hasbro went crazy on C.A.D's, Derpy was dropped from the show and Equestria Girls became an actual thing, I sort of dropped out f the pony fandom for a while. But getting my wife to become interested in the show and comics and seeing her get to love the characters as much as I did rekindled my love for the show. So I guess even though Hasbro might be running the franchise into the ground, I can still appreciate how awesome it was (and at least how awesome the comic still is)

The last episode of the third season was half atrocious, but there's tons of Derpy goodness... if you can find her. She's also on EqG, in style.

Also I haven't seen many C&Ds as far as I recall. There was Fighting is Magic, a set of fan-made coins, one guy that was selling on-model toys (well that was more than expected, really), and one of the MMORPGs.

But yeah, if you wanna keep like, the end of season 2 as the end of the show for yourself, that's probably as good as it gets.

I don't understand why Derpy is such a selling point for people. She's nothing more than a background character for me, one with no official backstory and one line (which is all I ever expected her to get).

I don't see the big deal for Time Turner, Octavia, Vinyl Scratch, etc. either. I don't focus on much outside the Mane Six.

On one point, it's kind of a "you had to be there" thing for the early fans. She was a passing joke, bronies found her, it became a thing between the animators and us. A bit of it applies for Dr Whooves (lots of early /co/mrades were into Dr Who), Leaping Lyra and stuff like that. Some just like their designs or identify with what they do (DJs are pretty popular for instance, right?), and so on.

Also it's a Where's Waldo thing, it's just neat to look for her there, maybe with something wacky going on. If a show like this loses some of the light-hearted humor potential, you know it's going the wrong way.

So the brony thank you fund apparently is still happening. I wonder if its considerably less due to everything thats happened?

I hadn't given that much thought before, figured it might be a cosmetic thing too. Guess we have a new mythological horse/pony type from the show now.

Back in the end of season 1, one of the animators actually mentioned the crew loved seeing more varied versions of the ponies and that they couldn't do that exactly because of the style and the flash animation. They even asked in general to see some fanart like that, pity I never got to give it a shot.

As for Big Mac, well, he looks the family type, so not one to fool around much. Besides, he already lives with a bunch of mares, probably is up to the ears with girls' problems already.

My headcanon is still that he's a sort of natural resource for the Ponyville mares though.

Maybe I've been watching too much Breaking Bad lately (what can I say its the final season), but had this dream where Bryan Cranston & Aaron actually got hired to do a pony spin off of Breaking Bad being a pony set in Manehattan trying to make baked goods with addictive illegal recipes all the while trying to dodge authorities like the Wonderbolts from picking their trail. Pinkie Pie made a cameo appearance where she through her naivete helps in their schemes.

Man I've been searching Deviantart for images and I'm just reminded how fucked up it is that MLP fans feel the need to redraw EVERYTHING as ponies. You can search for ANYTHING and you will likely find a whole bunch of ponyified versions.

Yesterday went to see EQG with some friends at some local cinema.
It's a little sad this film that not only was released in very few theaters (with very little promotion) but also that only lasted for a week and a half. And painfully enough, Smurfs 2 was released 2 months ago and is still showing.
