Eh, it wasn't exactly bad, but it wasn't exactly as good as the regular show could be at its best either.

Thought that it had some good ideas and jokes, and wasn't essentially as horrible as people seemed to think that it was going to be, but it wasn't exactly hugely great either.

I remember in a chat on another site recently, someone was talking about how a lot of people were going to the movies this summer, but that all the movies that did well were shit. Someone else responded "Well, it's because there's no Brony movie out."

I don't think he was factoring in kids, to be honest. I think a lot of people I know just count how many adults went to go see anything. I've actually heard people say kids don't watch Friendship Is Magic. Just adults do.

Something has to really go out of its way to hit a nerve for me for me to dislike it. The worst you'll usually hear from me is "That movie was average, I don't have a strong desire to see it again." A movie has to have such a blatant lack of shit given by absolutely everyone in who worked on it, or advocate hate speech, or hit a certain nerve to actually make me dislike it.

But every movie I saw this summer, I actually liked. Iron Man 3 (although I'm puzzled why people disliked the second one, it was my favorite of the three), Gatsby, and especially Man of Steel.
>> No. 212414

IMO "average" doesn't cut it for movies. I just don't want to pay 12 bucks for a generic, by the numbers film. And the last time I heard about a "revolutionary" movie (James Cameron's Avatar) I was swindled.

After that I really stopped caring about Hollywood Cinema.

Thing is, movies didn't become bad, you just grew up. Media is everywhere these days so you already witnesses all the experience the medium has to offer and now you feel like they aren't trying anymore, but in fact they were doing the same, you were just more ignorant.
Aiming for originality when you are an adult is stupid because everything has already be one.
>> No. 212423
>>212419
While it's true that a great many things have been done repeatedly, and there's something to be said for youthful naivete, but shrugging one's shoulders and giving up on originality, THAT is stupid. That way leads to nothing but stagnation. So long as people at least TRY for originality, they're keeping the waters moving, and every now and then something fresh actually comes of it.

I agree and disagree. "Average" doesn't cut it anymore, unless all I wanted from the film was to have a good time, and it delivered on that. But I refuse to think nobody makes good films anymore. Sometimes you just have to look a little harder to find them, broaden your horizons a bit.

Honestly, I find most bronies that criticise the movie to be hypocrites, as most of the problems it has are shared by the show:

- "Cliché hurricane"? Try the vast overwhelming majority of the episodes

- Flat antagonist? Try every antagonist except maybe Discord and Nightmare Moon.

So does Beware the Batman. So what's your point? Hand drawn will always be superior to flash and CG. The only reason we keep getting CG movies is because the masses of uneducated retards still see it as new, fresh, and trendy and somehow they see it as "mature" compared to 2D. Once the luster wears off and there is no distinction between the mediums and general masses see that, it is game over for the graphic whores.

Kind of like how gaming is reaching that point where better graphics mean dick shit. Just look at the PS4 which is a low end PC no less instead of the very notable best possible graphical jump it could be.

>kids dont give a shit about quality

Don't remind me. But if CG is getting cheaper like you say, then how come it still looks like shit? Look at TMNT 2012 or Transformers Prime or Beware the Batman. The human characters are lanky and frankly kind of ugly and the animation leaves lots to be desired as they can't ever match the action in a CG film like Kung Fu Panda. 2D on the other hand can have some very nice action like the Red X episode of Teen Titans or the entire Avatar series. CG has a fuck ton long ass way to go before it is a true proper replacement for 2D animation. Nevermind that CG also sucks dick at creating environments filled with life and NPCs. The cities in Transformers, Beware the Batman, and TMNT are barren wastelands for the most part.

>CG is getting to the point of being cheaper than hand drawn

no it's not. because even though reusable assets should go toward it, the current competition toward better and better effects force any company who want to invest in CGI to pour money like crazy to not look "last gen" CGI still doesn't age well enough to let companies use the cheap tech.
>> No. 213304

This and there are more studios nowadays that compete against Dreamworks and Disney like the upcoming Ratchet and Clank theatrical CG movie or Ice Age's studio. The competition to make the best CG animation drives up the costs something fierce.

Just because a stupid movie like Despicable Me can cash out with it being low budget doesn't mean its the standard at all (pfft and for a "low budget" it was still somewhat pricy for film standards).

This song is from the Disney movie Hocus Pocus and it was sang by Sara Jessica Parker's character (of all people in a Disney film). All in all the song and the original singer gives this video a hell of a negative connotation. In the movie Sara Jessica Parker enticed children to be sacrificed for for Bette Midler's potion of youth, but Sara Jessica Parker is famous for Sex and the City.

So all in all this video just makes Luna come off as a child abductor and child molester. So I had to thumb it down on principle. Nice animation though, superior to the show's and even better than Double Rainboom's.

So the fanbase still makes high quality vids, but is the fanbase kind of moving on and abandoning the pony mania? I don't blame them, the mediocre Season 3 eps and its atrocious finale and Equestria Girls smeared everything.

If there's one episode I will check out in Season 4 is the one obligatory for Discord because I'm still curious what Celestia planned with him after essentially neutering the character. God knows I hope it was worth raping the character with bad fanfiction writing (which it was based on fanfiction by a fanfic writer who just happened to have connections to the staff).

Anyway, now that the 1080p Equstria Girls is out I finally watched it. Not as bad as I feared, about as good as I could realistically expect. Lots of the jokes made me laugh. There are tons of show episodes from all three seasons that were worse. 6/10.

I thought the movie was fine. I mean, it wasn't as good as the better episodes but it was watchable. Some good jokes, some pop songs, human Twilight acting like a horse and embarrassing herself in a charmingly goofy fashion. I definitely thought it was better than the cringe inducing season 3 finale, which people praised for some reason. My only real complaint would be to make Flash Sentry less generic cool dude. Couldn't they have made him a photographer or something so that the only plot relevant thing he did would make sense?
