This is funny.
And >>215254 pretty much covered it.
But on the other hand...

Such a waste of good animation.

That's really up to the artist to decide.

So after Fighting Magic was canned, Hasbro went crazy on C.A.D's, Derpy was dropped from the show and Equestria Girls became an actual thing, I sort of dropped out f the pony fandom for a while. But getting my wife to become interested in the show and comics and seeing her get to love the characters as much as I did rekindled my love for the show. So I guess even though Hasbro might be running the franchise into the ground, I can still appreciate how awesome it was (and at least how awesome the comic still is)

The last episode of the third season was half atrocious, but there's tons of Derpy goodness... if you can find her. She's also on EqG, in style.

Also I haven't seen many C&Ds as far as I recall. There was Fighting is Magic, a set of fan-made coins, one guy that was selling on-model toys (well that was more than expected, really), and one of the MMORPGs.

But yeah, if you wanna keep like, the end of season 2 as the end of the show for yourself, that's probably as good as it gets.
>> No. 215365
I don't understand why Derpy is such a selling point for people. She's nothing more than a background character for me, one with no official backstory and one line (which is all I ever expected her to get).

I don't see the big deal for Time Turner, Octavia, Vinyl Scratch, etc. either. I don't focus on much outside the Mane Six.

On one point, it's kind of a "you had to be there" thing for the early fans. She was a passing joke, bronies found her, it became a thing between the animators and us. A bit of it applies for Dr Whooves (lots of early /co/mrades were into Dr Who), Leaping Lyra and stuff like that. Some just like their designs or identify with what they do (DJs are pretty popular for instance, right?), and so on.

Also it's a Where's Waldo thing, it's just neat to look for her there, maybe with something wacky going on. If a show like this loses some of the light-hearted humor potential, you know it's going the wrong way.
>> No. 215438
So the brony thank you fund apparently is still happening. I wonder if its considerably less due to everything thats happened?

I'm a Whovian and I got into the show in Season 1. I would have never noticed her had anyone not pointed her out. (And David Tennant's eyes are very prominently brown, whereas Time Turner's are blue.)
>> No. 215444
>>215439
Oh yeah not saying "OBVIOUS Dr Who homage was OBVIOUS". Nah, likely it was just the fans making a joke that stuck, in this case. But after that, I think even the animators decided to play with the idea (including other Doctors lookalikes and stuff), that's the thing.

(Also it's a he.)

"Her" referring to Derpy, not Time Turner.

Read the comic.

So McCarthy is saying that EQG is canon. Gross.

There's been a bit of a buzz about Luna's bat-like guards, with a lot of comments from M A Larson and Faust. I gotta catch caps of the rest of the talk, fun stuff. I guess it's canon that everyone has a crush on Luna.

>>215566
Canon as in, TS "learned from the experience" and we might get references.
Also that Twi is into hyoomans is canon I guess

>>215447
Ah. I needed it to be pointed out, too.

But....how and why? I don't particularly pay any mind to shipping in MLP (especially now that I stopped giving a crap as much about FIM thanks S3), but this seems exaggeratedly out there.

Big Mac isn't even outgoing enough to seek any female interaction (hell the CMC had to force him). And Luna as opposed to the other winged unicorn characters is the most regal and proper about traditionalism and the royal ways. Oh sure Cadence married a commoner, but why Big Mac? Did this have any build up?
>> No. 215578
>>215570
He helps Luna on a scavenger hunt or something, so maybe she's just thanking him.
And Mac isn't really going after any mares (he's pretty oblivious, even to Cheerilee, guess they just don't particularly like the ship), he just "forgot to turn his swagger off" I guess, that's probably the whole joke, and that's not even the focus of the story.

My initial thought was that some pegusi just had different types of wings. Heck, I've even seen fanartists draw regular pegusi with, say, Fluttershy having big fluffy wings, Rainbow Dash having sleeker, speedier ones. I like thinking that if it wasn't a Flash-animated show with a lot of re-used body types, they might have gone with that.

>>215570
>>215578
That's what I was thinking too. Again with the fanart, I usually see him drawn as a human as a big studly Southern guy with shaggy hair, so maybe he's attractive to them, but he's either oblivious, too much of a workaholic to date, or they're in a Kingdom Hearts "no relationships, ever" situation.

I hadn't given that much thought before, figured it might be a cosmetic thing too. Guess we have a new mythological horse/pony type from the show now.

Back in the end of season 1, one of the animators actually mentioned the crew loved seeing more varied versions of the ponies and that they couldn't do that exactly because of the style and the flash animation. They even asked in general to see some fanart like that, pity I never got to give it a shot.

As for Big Mac, well, he looks the family type, so not one to fool around much. Besides, he already lives with a bunch of mares, probably is up to the ears with girls' problems already.

My headcanon is still that he's a sort of natural resource for the Ponyville mares though.

I figured some stallions would have to do double-duty, too. There's significantly less stallions than mares.

From what I remember (I took notes during a few episodes of, I think, Season 1):

Stallions (from most to least): Pegusi, Earth Ponies, Unicorns
Mares (from most to least): Unicorns, Earth Ponies, Pegusi

True, I remember seeing lots of pegasus males. In Canterlot the ratio of unicorns might be a bit different, what with the school and big magical business to be dealt with.

What I wouldn't do for this same guy to make a video about Pinkie Pie killing the others to the song Its Hip To Be Square by Huey Lewis. It would be just as hilarious as this bit from American Dad:

Maybe I've been watching too much Breaking Bad lately (what can I say its the final season), but had this dream where Bryan Cranston & Aaron actually got hired to do a pony spin off of Breaking Bad being a pony set in Manehattan trying to make baked goods with addictive illegal recipes all the while trying to dodge authorities like the Wonderbolts from picking their trail. Pinkie Pie made a cameo appearance where she through her naivete helps in their schemes.

Man I've been searching Deviantart for images and I'm just reminded how fucked up it is that MLP fans feel the need to redraw EVERYTHING as ponies. You can search for ANYTHING and you will likely find a whole bunch of ponyified versions.

For fucks sake there comes a point when enough is enough.

Not like it's a concerted effort, just that every once in a while someone gets bored and thinks "Hey, I wonder if this thing I know about had some obvious crossover art with this other thing I know yet." There is no upper limit to that happening other than the number of things squared, and that's if you constrain it to only two things per crossover.

I wanted to do actual horse characters drawn in MLP style (like Misty of Chincoteague and Black Beauty and National Velvet) but I worried they'd be too generic for anyone to figure out who they were.

Yesterday went to see EQG with some friends at some local cinema.
It's a little sad this film that not only was released in very few theaters (with very little promotion) but also that only lasted for a week and a half. And painfully enough, Smurfs 2 was released 2 months ago and is still showing.
