S2 was always my favorite Digimon season, despite the fact that the writers cared less and less as the ending drew nearer. I liked the idea of a human trying to conquer Digimon for some reason, and then he turned good and gained a giant flying wasp knight and everyone had to fight a recolor of Wargreymon, some spider-lady and her mummy friend, and Cthulhu.

You're Grossely overestimating Taker and Hikari's worth. For the first part they both spent the first show almost useless except for the big battles. For the second part they couldn't lead a horse to water let alone make it drink.

Daisuke was the leader for the same reason Luffy is the captain in One Piece, because people will follow him to the ends of the earth.

Compared to Takeru who was a Knight Templar and Hikari who broke down from all the expectations.

But then again Season 2 was complete GARBAGE in both storytelling and compelling characters not to mention decent fights to make up for that so why do we care? It's a permanent shit stain on the nice white underwear of the digimon franchise, Even frontier for all it's bad execution of a good concept had good fights and S2 couldn't even reach the Pokemon anime in terms of decent.

S2 is a blight upon the earth, a total shit stain of a show that has literally nothing good going for it.

The original Digimon was very clear about one thing, it had no budget and Stock Footage was god, so why is it considered a great Anime? because it is well written. Because instead of the characters being "The cool one" "The smart one" "The ditzy one" they had depth and character development. Anyone saying they watched Digimon FOR the Digimon was a liar. We watched for Taichi and Koushirou and Sora and Jou and Mimi and all the rest.

Season 2 on the other hand was none of that. What made S1 so affective was the premise, 7 kids who were trapped in a foreign world with forces who wished to do them harm. They didn't get to go home to a nice warm bed and cooked food, they didn't have any luxarys. If Devimon wasn't trying to kill them Etemon had almost the whole continent wired and was hounding them. after that Vamdemon tried to make them useless and then kill the human world. And even after they returned to the human world they were on a desperate run to find the 8th child and stop Vamdemon. At no point where they allowed to go "Well okay we'll take some time to plan this out and get provisions" there was a constant state of tension.

In S2 the Kaiser had already taken over the Digital World and the kids had a gateway in and out. The only reason there was any tension was because of contrived stupidity. Actually thats a lie there was ONE episode where there was tension, the Dagomon episode in the Dark World. The problem was they NEVER CAPITALIZED ON IT.

The kids characterizations pettered out and there was no real competent villains after the Kaiser. and of course my personal pet peeve, the fucking World Wide Chosen Children. People looking to become writers remember these words. You are not fucking CHOSEN if EVERYONE is, it was the fucking point of the Incredibles and there is NO quicker way to kill tension than to go "There are hundreds of you."

Now lets talk about how they fucked the villains over. Mummymon and Arukenimon were team rocket nuff said, Black Wargreymon was voiced by frigging Nobuyuki Hiyama and yet he was wholely unintresting and worst of all.

HIS PLOT ARC WAS COMPLETE SHIT! In the end the Chosen Children fail to stop him destroying the Destiny Stones... and it unleashes one of the Gods of the digital world who's actually benevolent and kind...

WHAT?! I sat through that entire arc and just went "Well that was pointless" Why the fuck do I care about these guys anymore?

Oh and the biggest "Go fuck yourselves" Demon. For those who don't know the Digimon expanded universe has several big mythological beings which are essentially gods among men and are treated as such. Olympus 12, Royal Knights, Holy Beasts, and everyones favourite badguys the Seven Demon Lords.

As it stands each Anime gives us one lord and makes them a central villain. in S2 it was Demon, in S3 it was Beelzebumon, in S4 it was Lucemon and in S5 it was Belphemon. Barbamon has appeared in one of the manga's but Lilithmon and Leviamon haven't been used yet.

In short how do they take out this hyper powerful badass? well in V-Tamers Taichi and UlforceVeedramon had to go Super Ultimate after he went Super Ultimate and sliced him in half! In 02 they pointed there digivices at him and he got sent to the dark world.

Wait wouldn't sending a Demon lord to exist in the same relm as Dagon from Lovecraftean myth be bad for the humans? nope because this is NEVER mentioned again. We just move onto Oikawa who was Ken the second except wimpier and BelialVamdemon who was beaten worse than Demon.

So overall FUCK S2 it was a fucking piece of shit.

Now S3 made me a complete digimon fan. The tension was back even though the Tamers were in the human world because they had to contend with A. Wild digimon B. Evil adults and C. God sending his personal hitmen after them.

And most important of all there was no village of new beginnings. Death was the end something that could not be recovered from and there were no Digitama's.

There was the constant overarching question of what is and what causes evolution. the kids in question grow up as Takato starts the series a crybaby and ends it a knight in shining armor both physically and mentally.

Ontop of that it gave us Ruki a girl who was not only on par with the boys but above and beyond Sixth Ranger Ryo Akiyama (Shut up about her being 'Chickified' she annihilated an army of D-Reaper agents when Ryo struggled to kill a single one of the same genus this makes her the second strongest behind Takato)

While it did have a few flaws mostly the Neo Tamers being utterly worthless save for a few moments it had wonderful writing, wonderful fights and these best opening.

Also it went a step beyond the usual shows by having the tamers be INVOLVED in the battle, Evolution was not the standard it was the trump card, the modifications the tamers made to there digimon could let Child-level digimon kill Champions.

Frontier... What they wanted was Super Sentai Digimon what we GOT was Kamen Rider Blade. What should have been a group of heroes working together became the Kouji and Takuya Power Hour. I mean Izumi debuted her spirit and LOST. She LOST her initial fight and only claimed two solo victories against the game opponent the entire of the series.

Wanna know what saves frontier? a sense of Tension and wonderful fights. the fights improved upon Tamers and we were back to the "Stuck in a foreign world where everything is out to kill you"
The series even had the balls to kill off Seraphimon who was a constant in the series as being near GOD in terms of power despite not being in one of the big groups. It also properly used there Demon Lord who in his CHILD form anihillated two Ultimate digimon.

Of course the Royal Knights almost killed the show, again with Black Wargreymon it's not good to have your heroes lose over and over again. Even when they finally beat them it was Lucemon who got the kill.

It just dragged on way too long.

Now Savers is a show that was good, but could have been great.

There was nothing really wrong with it, it had good fights, good music, a well rounded cast of characters who were all used well, a truely evil human villain, it used it's demon lord well and even the second half of the show was good though it felt a little X-Evolutionish.

The problem it has? the original concept of the show was 'Digimon Banchou' a tale of gang warfare between Digimon and there partners. Masaru was the same, Yoshino was the leader of an all female Yakuza and Tohma was the man who took down the american mafia on his own.

Let me just say that is the most badass hardcore thing ever. It sounded batshit insane and I wanted to watch it.

I like the first three series wonderfully, but season 4 was a bad one in my opinion, it took away from the heart of Digimon which was kids hanging out with digital monsters and fighting baddies together with them, instead it was just kids who had super powers. Also the only real memory I have of the series was near the end when the two main guys kept combining every spirit to get newer forms only to get their asses kicked again.

I only watched Seasons 1 and 2, and the second one lost my interest halfway. It wasn't my love for the Digimon that kept me watching, it was the girl to my left. I saw a lot of myself in that girl, if I was thrown into the Digital world, you best believe I'd be freaking out and crying all the time. The rest of you fucks would as well. Over the season 1, she was the only one who really developed as a character.

Tai was still a headstrong douche, but now he has the added baggage of a little sister he almost killed (because he was a douche). Matt got even worse because the Matt from the first half would not have left TK alone by himself to go emo in the forest. Izzy and Joe were still smart and had their shit together. Sora still the mother hen. TK, still a crybaby, Kari doesn't count because she was added as an after thought (and by the way, she had a lot of potential. She had these crazy psychic connections but they were barely used, and only used once in season 2. Bullshit!)

But Mimi, she went from this spoiled girl who whined and cried all the time to someone who was willing to turn her back on her friends just so no more innocents would die. Would you be able to walk away from your best friends, your only connections to home, just so that beings you've never even met wouldn't die? I've always felt she was the most important part of the show. What is the last thing we see? We see her hat, flying away in the distance. In the Japanese version, her voice actor, Maeda Ai sings the closings (for all seasons, I think there was like one closing where she didn't) Again in the Japanese version, she had the crest of Purity which seemed just as special as Light and Hope to me. I mean, Purity isn't really a character trait, it's more of a... state of being? But whatever, the people who dubbed it switched her over to Sincerity since they probably had the same argument there.

I remember the summer the Digimon movie came out, I remember it very well. Our whole family was on a goddamn road trip and I had no access to a TV, since they were debuting the second season at the same time as the Movie. The day the series debuted, was the longest car ride of my life. I remember going into a Taco Bell near the Mexican border and seeing the movie poster hung up and just staring in awe... but also confusion since the character designs had changed. The one in pink had to be my Mimi though!

And then when I got more information about the second season, I was stoked. The idea of a human taking over the Digital world was very exciting to me as well. Of course, the second season fell flat. None of the characters gripped me like the originals, TK and Kari were still boring as shit. I found myself glued to the TV whenever one of the original 6 popped up. Except...

I always find it funny how everyone rages at Matt. We never even see his reaction to the whole situation! It's a scene about Tai and Sora, and whenever I watch that scene all I see is a cunt who left her boyfriend (or maybe not? idk there was enough implication for it to not seem unreasonable) for his best friend, and a shit that was too much of a pussy to do anything about it. And why did she go to Matt? Because he had a band? She was just a groupie slut. Anonymous hates Matt? Anonymiss hates Sora.

In episode 20 I believe the first episode Metal Greymon appeared in Taichi is standing infront of the electric fence frozen in fear, Agumon offers to go first and Taichi cuts him off, why?

"There's someone very special to me beyond this wall"
"You mean Sora?"
"Yeah... but there's also something else, I feel like I lost something yesterday"

It's what finally causes his crest of courage to glow because he stopped being afraid and after that moment Taichi never bottled himself up. Before that he might act a bit like a jerk or hide his feelings but after that he finally had his courage.

In that same episode he held on tight to Sora's hand when Nanomon tried to tear them apart, I know from his size Nanomon doesn't seem like much but he was a PERFECT level digimon, he was on the same level as Metal Greymon and Etemon and Vamdemon. and despite the fact that someone that strong was essentially trying to tear there arms apart he would not let go.

In the episode Sora's crest lit up he told her that the crest of love suited her perfectly even though Yamato took it as him being a douche. But after it lit up he told her again "It was perfect for you."

And of course at the end of the second movie, Our War Game, there is a bunch of still shots about what's happened to the cast, Mimi's tanned, Jou finished his exam and looks like a mess, Yamato's getting a haircut. We get a blank piece of white. "Taichi, I'm sorry to and I forgive you. Sora" and then a picture of Sora wearing the hairclip he got her.

Then Yamato and Sora, quite literally, NEVER TALK TO EACH OTHER through out S2 until they get together, it's like... Wha?

It wasn't Yamato stealing her or her being a groupie, it was the new writers (they took over after episode 21) saying

"Hmm Yamato's VA is really popular with all the albums he releases, lets hook him up with someone"
"Who?"
"Sora."
"You mean the girl we've been building up to get with Taichi for quite literally a season and a half?"
"Yes."
Hell even the Japanese voice actors disagreed with it (there interviews on the DVD's have them pointing out that it basically came out of nowhere)

It ended quite literally with BelialVamdemon being shouted at by children who said stuff like "I wanna be a fireman" and they were so lazy they didn't even properly animate his death, he just sort of faded away.

Then the epilogue. with the exception of Koushiro and Jou it just flew in the face of past characterization. And no I'm not talking about the pairings I'm talking about what there jobs where. Why did Mimi take up cooking? why did Sora start up a fashion line? why the hell did Yamato become an Astronaught?!

Season 4 at least gave us the climactic final battle. the humans returning to there world, and Kouichi waking up from his mini-coma/death.

Season 3 ended with the digimon returning to there world. The humans accepting that there is nothing they can do, and then Takato at Guilmons hiding spot as a faint red glow appears.

Season 5 ended with Masaru punching god in the face.

Of course 4 still sucks as a show. it just ended much better. Any show in which all of your final battles are won not with a bloody brawl but with TALKING is a large let down.

A show in which the conflict is resolved through deals, contracts, and careful verbal battles can be way more awesome as a show in which the finale consist of two guys beating the shit out of each other with their bare hands.

They never got a REAL major victory over a 'big bad' after Kimeramon. It wasn't in so much "Solved without violence" it was "Solved without violence hereby solidifying themselves as the worst group of chosen children"

I mean imagine in Pokemon special if the Pokedex holders didn't actually beat any of the Gym Leaders or evil organization members they encountered, but shit still turned out alright in the end.

It wasn't like Season 3 where questions like "What is evolution? do gods that digimon created still count as gods and do they count as lifeforms themselves?" and the fact that the D-Reaper wasn't a 'Rogue' program of evil, it was doing exactly what its programming told it to do. wipe the slate clean once the digital world became over populated.

It's not like this was Milleniumon who simply CAN NOT DIE while Ryo is alive, so a compromise has to be made to attain victory. It wasn't like this was Crayak a being who operates in the power level of "entire planets are pawns"

This was one Ultimate type! there were over 200 chosen children, 3 of them are confirmed to be able to reach the Ultimate level, and a pair can even form one of the Ultimates who stands along side the Super Ultimates despite not being one.

There is no logical reason why Belial Vamdemon wasn't reduced to a pile of bloody organs.

It would have been like if Gad Guard had ended with a big bloody battle between all the Gad owners despite the fact the entire show is essentially a journey into maturity

Season 2 was the season I liked the least. Mainly because the writing was terrible. There were a few awesome bits, but over all it just wasn't that good.

  Besides an actual plot, the second advantage over Pokemon: a really good dub.

The fact that everybody and their parents were suddenly digi-destined is something that bugged me in Season 2. Also, young Genai.... mixed amounts of want.

Anyways, when they were having the world tour, and there were maybe 3-4 digidestined, that wasn't as bad. But the finale? Fuck that shit.
And everyone in the world getting digimon in the end was just hackneyed.

So yeah, as the three posts above me complained. Completely agreed.
