It ended quite literally with BelialVamdemon being shouted at by children who said stuff like "I wanna be a fireman" and they were so lazy they didn't even properly animate his death, he just sort of faded away.

Then the epilogue. with the exception of Koushiro and Jou it just flew in the face of past characterization. And no I'm not talking about the pairings I'm talking about what there jobs where. Why did Mimi take up cooking? why did Sora start up a fashion line? why the hell did Yamato become an Astronaught?!

Season 4 at least gave us the climactic final battle. the humans returning to there world, and Kouichi waking up from his mini-coma/death.

Season 3 ended with the digimon returning to there world. The humans accepting that there is nothing they can do, and then Takato at Guilmons hiding spot as a faint red glow appears.

Season 5 ended with Masaru punching god in the face.

Of course 4 still sucks as a show. it just ended much better. Any show in which all of your final battles are won not with a bloody brawl but with TALKING is a large let down.

> Any show in which all of your final battles are won not with a bloody brawl but with TALKING is a large let down.
Not that I'm defending season 2's ending or anything, but I have to disagree with this. A show in which the conflict is resolved through deals, contracts, and careful verbal battles can be way more awesome as a show in which the finale consist of two guys beating the shit out of each other with their bare hands.

From what I've heard, the "I wanna be a fireman" bit is only in the dub. In the original, they were shouting to expel all the darkness he was pumping into them.

The thing was after Kimeramon the kids did NOTHING BUT FAIL.

They didn't stop BWG Quinlongmon did.
They didn't stop Arukenimon and Mummymon, Demon killed them.
They didn't beat Demon they just expelled him to the Dark World (where he should theoreticly be stronger...)
they didn't beat Oikawa, Belial Vamdemon appeared.
They didn't beat Belial Vamdemon they just shouted at him.

They never got a REAL major victory over a 'big bad' after Kimeramon. It wasn't in so much "Solved without violence" it was "Solved without violence hereby solidifying themselves as the worst group of chosen children"

I mean imagine in Pokemon special if the Pokedex holders didn't actually beat any of the Gym Leaders or evil organization members they encountered, but shit still turned out alright in the end.

It wasn't like Season 3 where questions like "What is evolution? do gods that digimon created still count as gods and do they count as lifeforms themselves?" and the fact that the D-Reaper wasn't a 'Rogue' program of evil, it was doing exactly what its programming told it to do. wipe the slate clean once the digital world became over populated.

It's not like this was Milleniumon who simply CAN NOT DIE while Ryo is alive, so a compromise has to be made to attain victory. It wasn't like this was Crayak a being who operates in the power level of "entire planets are pawns"

This was one Ultimate type! there were over 200 chosen children, 3 of them are confirmed to be able to reach the Ultimate level, and a pair can even form one of the Ultimates who stands along side the Super Ultimates despite not being one.

There is no logical reason why Belial Vamdemon wasn't reduced to a pile of bloody organs.

It would have been like if Gad Guard had ended with a big bloody battle between all the Gad owners despite the fact the entire show is essentially a journey into maturity

Pretty much this. When all those kids' Digimon appeared, I wanted them all to Digivolve simultaneously and all attack Malomyotismon at once, absolutely destroying the shit out of him...

My face when that didn't happen.

No.9870
Season 2 was the season I liked the least. Mainly because the writing was terrible. There were a few awesome bits, but over all it just wasn't that good.

No.9873
Besides an actual plot, the second advantage over Pokemon: a really good dub.

No.9880
The fact that everybody and their parents were suddenly digi-destined is something that bugged me in Season 2. Also, young Genai.... mixed amounts of want.

Anyways, when they were having the world tour, and there were maybe 3-4 digidestined, that wasn't as bad. But the finale? Fuck that shit.
And everyone in the world getting digimon in the end was just hackneyed.

So yeah, as the three posts above me complained. Completely agreed.

Eh, it was a gag dub, if you're into that kinda thing (which I am sometimes, ahhhh duel masters the extent you will take the piss out of yourself inspires me) then it was good. As an actual adaption of the show... well it was half and half.

I don't blame that on Jeff Nimoy I blame that on Saban "Everyone must talk everywhere!"

No.9891

>Duel Masters
Fuck tournaments, it's time for a fucking rock opera. God I loved that show.

I actually watched some of the sub one time just out of curiosity. It is unbelievably boring.

No.9892
One of Saban's strengths is making lemonade from lemons. And let's face it, Digimon is pretty lemony.

No.9893
>>9892
Not really. A lot of the dub was acceptable as a kid but 1 media studies class and a literature class later and The sub had the better writing. It's not even a case of loving the original it's Saban not knowing if they wanted a gag dub or what. They make reference to pet and family members that don't exist, Jerky Taichi, Tawty Yamato. Sora's entire personality got flipped on it's head (Original: God damn it Piyomon stop being so obsessive! Dub:I love my Biyomon yes I do yes I do)

No.9994

Season 1 = Ginchy cool (mostly nostalgia)
Season 2 = A step above season 1 (I loved the end, fuck you all)
Season 3 = God-Tier. (opinion, I know)
Season 4 = What the fuck is this...ugh
Season 5 = zZzZz...

Also, I prefer the dub. Great voice cast, added comedy where it was needed, I loved the 'movie'.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

I've been rewatching Tamers (just finished episode 26) since I've heard so many good things about it and thought the things that weirded me out about it as a kid might appeal to me as an adult. And I hate to say it, but so far, I haven't really been digging it. There's definitely things I like about it (Digivolution and De-Digivolution aren't pieces of cake to accomplish, the human partners take on an active role in battle, some cool adult characters) but since they've gotten to the Digital World I've been finishing the episodes with a feeling of "meh". The show is a lot more daring and dark than the previous seasons, but somehow, it's just not daring and dark enough. I think it might have less to do with the writing (I know Beezelmon killing Leomon is pretty "HOLY SHIT" on paper) than the overall look and atmosphere of the show, though. And Kazu and Kenta are grating on my nerves.

Regardless of whether or not it improves later on, I'll still keep watching. But does it get better later on?

No.10154
>>10148
Yeah.

S2.

It was dying in the ratings and the original writing staff left after episode 21, It was originally planned to be much longer but they were told to just wrap this shit up and go home.

It almost killed the franchise until Chiaki rebooted it with S3

No.10155
>>10153

If you're complaining about it not being dark enough, don't worry. It gets PLENTY what-the-fuck dark towards the end. Also depressing.

There is, in fact, a happy ending. But the show WILL rip your heart out and spit on it before it gets there.

Yeah, overall the weakest episodes in Season 3 were the episodes they actually went to the digital world. It really pays off if you just slog through that period.

No.10298
So, Cross Wars started airing.

I don't want to complain already since there's only one episode, but there's something rather "off" about it. But at least Demon Lord Lilithmon is confirmed for this season.

No.10299
>>10157

No. the weakest episodes were the ones where they had to shoehorn in the DIGI MODIFY, I can only assume to shill for some card game.

No.10306

The card game had been out for years. "Card Slash" was envisioned as the way to let the tamers interact with the Digimon outisde of Evolution.

Remember how long it took everyone to reach Adult? that's not because "ooh we need to sell cards" it was "Lets show the kids doing something more than evolving and sitting on the sidelines"

No.10340

Plus, Card Slash always looked really cool. Hell, Tamers had the coolest looking Digivolution sequence in the whole series.

No.10369
Evo is probably the best Evolution song outside of Brave Heart and it definitly is more evocative than Brave Heart.

It also just fit me how fitting all the Matrix Evolutions were
Sakuyamon: Ruki has come to terms with her femininity after 3 evolutions of beast becoming more human.
Saint Galgomon: Jenrya has come to terms with having to fight and become willing to achieve peace through force of arms
Dukemon: Takato has grown up from a crybaby who got teary eyed at the very first sign of trouble into a true hero, represented by being a Knight

Justimon: In Hind Sight he's a Kamen Rider who travels across dimensions. But really Ryo was there to attract fans of the games and didn't have a character arc.

What was Season 5 like? Nobody even seems to bother mentioning it.

No.10409

It's only decent. Not horrible, but not awesome either.
The highlight was Mr. Masaru I-Punch-Everything, for reminding me of kamina and black star.

No.10419

Season 5 is good. It's got nice action though it can lack, it treats the 4 tamers with respect but that takes a while, the villains are evil as shit... actually I don't see a downside to that.

Season 5's problem was it could have been something else entirely, it could have been Digimon Banchou but instead it was Digimon World 2 the Anime.

It's neat. I don't usually like analyzing fiction, especially nostalgia stuff, but she was spot on for a lot of things.

Also, I like how she compiled the best scenes of character development. She should have done that for all of the characters though. Every single one of them had plenty of crowning moments.

It's been 10 years. Experiment with a "return to the roots" style series already: a Narnia-esque Adventure of a bunch of kids in a strange world while slowly learning about the mythology of the wider universe without distracting gimmicks like "becoming the Digimon" or "combining Digimon like mecha"
