AKA Stuff you forgot about or missed but Oda didn't. So, with the ending of the war coming up soon (as it has been for the last month or so, kinda like its been the mid point of the series since Skypeia), and my my recent acquisition of a ludicrous amount of free time, I decided that the best way to end the first part of the Grand Line was to read the entire series, all the way from chapter 1. This time though, I'll try to keep an eye out for small details that are easily skimmed over, and which many of us missed completely. For example, did you notice that Chopper didn't like the Bon Chari race in Sabaody? Look at his face on chapter 497, page 12. Please correct any of the things you see that are incorrect, because some of the early stuff can be way off the mark (BINAMI).This will be a semi-marathon for me, and I'll be reading from around the time I post this to about 7 hours from now (5-12 central time) every day until I finish or die from lack of meaningful social interaction. Also, I won't stop, even if there is little interest in the thread, though I guess it'll turn from semi-"Lets Read" to "some dude monopolizes the first thread indefinitely." You might want to block the thread.ALRIGHT WHATEVER LETS GO.
AND WATCH ME FUCK UP FROM THE GET GO.Remember Nami's original outfit? The lack of boobs is disturbing, but you might notice that the pattern on the shirt is the same as the pattern on her headband thing on her personal jolly roger.
Check out Shank's old ship. Looks very similar to the Red Force. Also, Shanks stayed at Luffy's village for an entire year. He was already dueling with Mihawk at this point, so who knows what he was doing hanging around here for a year. Also, the narrator boxes haven't changed at all.
And here we have the mighty Yonkou's fearsome gang of party pirates. I wouldn't be surprised if some of these showed up when he was meeting up with whitebeard, but I don't remember. Posting for quick later reference
Quite possibly one of the most important parts of the entire series shoved into a single, tiny panel. Maybe Higuma distracted him, but Luffy doesn't even seem to notice the devil fruit's terrible taste down there.
Bounty is a measure of combat power and threat to the government. Higuma sucks, so if Kidd's bounty is only higher than Luffy's because he killed a ton of people, and killing 56 people only gets you 8 million, that means that Kidd must have been very busy.
The fact that they are mountain bandits means two things:1. There are mountains, despite the fact that everything looks like plains.2. The place where the village is located is far enough away from them that they can't be seenAlso, take note that there is "another village" within walking distance. Sometimes there are arguments about were Ace lived, but these facts make it likely that he lived, if not in Fuschia, then at least nearby.
Wow, its actually called "Partys Bar." No wonder Shanks liked the place. Also, nice anchor decoration there.
Did anyone who started out reading this series earlier than 5-6 years ago think he was telling the literal truth? Its possible Shank's wasn't Yonkou level back then, but he was at least big enough that Whitebeard knew of him.
>>5386He must get up very early in the morning.
Godspeed anon
I'm back. I guess I wasn't ready for UNLIMITED FREE TIME. Whatever. This is another page that doesn't really have many details but will become important later on for blatantly obvious (now) reasons. Earlier chapters aren't as packed as they are now, so there probably won't be many things until Loguetown, I'm guessing. That's were I remember the series really getting packed.
Now, nobody will doubt the fact that Shanks is a nice guy that would gladly give up his life for a friend, but at Sabaody we learned that Luffy said something that Roger did back then (meaning, likely from the third page to this one). Since Shanks likely met Roger when he was already a pirate for some time (because Shanks was an "apprentice," whatever that means) what he said would have unlikely to have been any of Luffy's "let me go with you" stuff. While nothing in the chapter really stood out in terms of Roger-iness, this line is something I can easily see come out of a pirate of any level. This is just a guess though, but one that immediately preceded The Hat, so maybe...
TIMELINE STUFFFor the purpose of this "project" Roger's execution will be year 0.0-Roger Executed11- Shanks arrives at Fuschia 12- Shanks Leaves Fuschia22- NowAlso, apparently Luffy acts like Shanks and talks like Roger. I love mentor chains.
This might have been trivia if our great and glorious fanbase wasn't so rabid when it comes the the Strawhats. 10 men means that we need 7 more members, by the way. Nami and Robin are women, Chopper is a reindeer, and Franky and Brook used to be men but they're now freaks of nature.
Anime watchers might not know that the Alvida arc was originally located on and uncharted island. The island somehow remained uncharted despite the fact that compasses work and the pirates suck in East Blue. It goes to show just how little of the One Piece world is full of misteries, even outside the Grand Line.
Those SS tatoos better not have been foreshadowing Alvida's future sube-sube abilities. I give Oda a lot of credit, but this one just seems unlikely.
Luffy had a single barrel on his ship when he set out, probably grog because Luffy is a proven underage drinker, and a bag (of food, probably). By this time he had probably drunk everything (and its a really good barrel) because his clothes are dry here, which means that the thing in report time about killing and eating large fish is true. Wait, he survived a whirlpool by HIDING IN A BARREL?
Apparently Zoro is both "bold" and "clever" enough to escape the Marines and hunt bounties by drifting out to sea to an uncharted island in a barrel in the hopes that he'll get fished out by a bounty head. The sad thing is that he totally is.
THIS ONE IS IMPORTANTLook at how short Coby is HAHAHA what a midget. He sure grew a lot, huh? By the way, his is consistently this size throughout the chapter, so its not perspective.
Both of Luffy's stalkers where directly insulted by him after being praised by everyone around them for who knows how long. Except Alvida's praise was forced, while Hancock's praise was genuine. What this means is that Luffy and Hancock deserve to be together much more than Luffy and Alvida.(This is what shippers actually think like)
Please note that Coby doesn't kow anything about devil fruits, so the fact that he talks about a gomu-gomu tree is suspect. However, Oda did talk about changing the fruit's name because a "gomu tree" actually exists, so who really know for sure? Unless I missed an SBS.
Chapter 3He wanders around the sea. Yup. Also, check out how Coby thinks good people don't get arrested. COMEDY!
>>5401I laughed.Keep up the commentary, anon. You're clever.
I guess Food Foo is going for the simple name = costumers remember thing. Check out that wanted poster, too. I have no idea what is says and I doubt it will come up again, but it might be worth remembering. Or maybe its an easter egg of some sort?
Marine battleships have the same design on them as the base. Also, where are spoilers? Also, if I go at 5 images per chapter, when I'm done this thing is going to end up being about a fourth of all the post since the beginning of this board.
You have no idea I how much I was doing this with the original japanese volumes (and that I could read japanese, too). Instead, I'll keep an eye out for the words "spirit," "ambition," and "aura." Maybe I'll catch some pre-reveal Haki.
I don't get it. Did he make the offer to hunt a bounty for Luffy in exchange for freedom because he knew Luffy wouldn't do it? Its not a mistake, because a few pages later he talks about having to stay for a month. Whatever, check out how Zoro stood up to an oppressive authority by ATTACKING IT WITH HIS SWORD in front of a crowd of people who would likely do the same if they weren't afraid of retribution, despite the fact that he likely didn't know the consequences of doing so. Good thing he learned his lesson here, though.
Well, at least Luffy was here to punch the oppressive douchebag in the face. Good going Luffy, FIGHT THE POWAH. Right after this, he started collecting his crew. Surely a similar situation in the future wouldn't have the exact opposite effect. That would be ridiculous and require the author to plan out a plot point for over 10 years.
Well no wonder he's so spoiled. Not even his father hit him! While I don't advocate child abuse, sometimes children might need a firm reminder or else they will grow up spoiled and get punched in the face by Luffy. Well, hopefully high society parents know that sometimes a kid just needs a spanking, because otherwi- Charlos's father never hit him either that is the point I am making see there are a bunch of parallels here get it get.
Chapter 4Just two things. 1. Marine design on his pants. 2. OH GOD THE BACK OF THE AXE STRETCHES HIS SKIN WHY DIDN'T I NOTICE THAT'S DISGUSTING AND THE BOLTS IN HIS ARM AUURGH
Sweet umlaut. Mowe? I have no idea what that means. Its on real Morgan's jaw too, and when I googled (image, because I don't bother with them word things) I got pictures of a thing from an anime which I vaguely remember, some seagulls, and a naked lady (with a seagull). So, its probably "seagull." Imagine your favorite reaction image here.
Oops, wrong image. Just pretend I posted a picture with a closeup of the statue. It totally says mowe, guys. Check out the Sanji flag pre-Sanji, minus spiral.
Chapter 5Oh wow, the bullets don't even hurt him. I don't remember Luffy being this dickish. I mean, at least Buggy could take the hits.
Of course not, Luffy wouldn't dare upheave politicals of any kind, despite what his dad says. Funny how many times Luffy deposes rulers he doesn't like or cement the position of those he does through just doing whatever the hell he wants, though. Authorities busted count: 1
The identity of Zoro's sensei has never been revealed, only his name. There are three surviving strawhat mentors/parent figures: Shanks, Koshiro, and Zeff, and coincidentally or not they are the mentors of the monster trio. Of the three, only Koshiro's past is completely unknown. Makes you wonder, no?
Kuina was a baby when Shiki escaped 20 years ago. Zoro is 19, so she's only a year older. That means Zoro is only 9-11, since Kuina's breasts are starting to develop. Zoro sure was tiny, wasn't he? Also, age calculation of a dude helped by breast development status is terrible, and I am ashamed that I'm not ashamed to do it.
Little Zoro little timeline Day 1- whooped by a chick with real swords, (Wo)manly promise/tearsDay 2 - chick is deadWhere did he get his swords? Even the page they showed up it only has him say he got them.
Final proof of the fact that Luffy knew he was bulletproof. This means that him holding up Helmeppo was completely pointless and had zero practical purpose. The best part of this page is that Coby ducked out of cover right when the bullets could have hit him. Coby is my hero.
This is the first and final page I will post just because of a sweet reaction image (sorry Eneru fans).
>>5422I guess Oda was saving it for dramatic effect.
Chapter 6The first ever usage of Santoryu. He blocks 3 swords with his left arm, two with his mouth, two with his right arm, and one either gets blocked by his right arm by the very tip or one of the dudes pussies out at the last moment. Also behold the original "the xth" chapter. Quite possibly the greatest offering to the fountain of fanwank since the 10 crewmates statement, and only surpassed by it as well.
Not to offend, but this reminds me how much I miss the One Piece Drinking Game guy. Way to be an accidental spiritual successor for the time being.
>>5424Personally I'd like to think that this is meant to further the "pirates aren't nice" thing, but once you already know about the rubber immunity the entire scene is hilariousler, which is a word now. Benefits of rereading, my friend.NEO FANWANK- SON OF THE SECONDEven though Zoro got his 100% crewmate chapter, here we find the egg that hatched inot the wriggling intestinal worm which infested the bodies of quite a few Zoro fans back in the day. Would their Precious get into a fight with Luffy and end up leaving the crew, and by extension, the spotlight? Yet, I'm sure all of you remember that fateful chapter where Zoro's loyalty was completely, irreversibly proven. I can guarantee that if we ever get a chapter titled "Strawhat Pirate: Black Leg Sanji" then the fans are likely to fanwank themselves into a coma in expectation for the others.
>>5428Oh man, I remember that guy. Maybe my subconscious mind got tired of waiting and compelled me to lose my life, and gain the time needed to continue in his footsteps? Nevertheless, there is a large difference between reading for the first time and reading to analyze (well, not analyze, but whatever). It might be fun if he came back and did his thing a few chapters ahead me, so that we could get the views of both a fresh face and an old vet. So sad... Morgan beats Zoro to flying cuts. I didn't remember that, and now that I did I'm going to forget it, Zoro style.
>>5430 Why the hell would you need to deny it? cutting wind attacks are hardly unique to zoro.
>>5431Morgan is lame, though. It would have been so awesome if, say, Mihawk was the first to cut something far away. ANYWAY TIMELINE UPDATE0- Roger Executed2- Kuina born3- Zoro born5- Luffy born11- Shanks arrives at Fuschia12- Shanks Leaves Fuschia20- Coby starts working for Alvida22- Now
REMEMBAH ME?I wish this page were clearer. Buggy isn't waring his jolly roger on his hat, despite the fact that he'll be showing up soon. Also, that map doesn't look like any place we've seen so far. A map with a single x, being looked over by 2 ex-roger pirates?Probably irrelevant.
Nami can't control the weather yet, so what she basically did was wait out in the middle of the sea with an empty treasure chest and a small barrel of supplies where she knew there would be a storm capable of appearing and sinking her boat (and only her boat, not any boats a few meters away) in a matter of seconds in the hopes that a group of sailors small, stupid, and greedy enough to be able and willing to all abandon their boat at once, go directly for the treasure, and completely ignore an attractive and vulnerable 18 year old, would show up with at least as much stuff as she had so she could steal it. That was a sentence. I thinks its time to stop, and this impossible plan seems just like the place.
This thread seems retarded as hell.
>>5437Huh? How so?
>>5435I know its not, but the the guy in the bottom left hand panel looks a lot like bon clay, maybe its the huge mouth and the bowl cut
>>5437Well I think it's nice.
>>5437Thanks for the feedback, I'll be sure to take it into consideration. However, while I do appreciate any comments, positive or negative, I appreciate them more if they actually help me improve. I'm doing this rereading thing because I'm bored, and mostly for myself. I just wanted to see if I could take anyone with me along for the ride.Anyway, I'll go ahead and clarify my "mission statement." I won't be doing a complete story synopsis, just pointing out things that catch my eye. That means that there may be times were I skip large chunks of story where plot that are actually critical, for example Luffy and Garp talking, if I don't find any details that not everyone knows. Also, I will talk about the current chapter if something connects to it, but will pretend that spoilers don't exist. So, did anyone ever wonder about those cannons on the Big Top? It seems they go all the way through the wood, where they are probably reloaded. Perhaps they can be swiveled up and down, too. Or maybe its bulit so they can fire on their own deck, it dunno.
If the grand and magnificent bastion of knowledge that is wikipedia is correct, then the word on that guy's shirt, "Hanswurst," was "a clown-like character popular in German and Austrian plays during the 18th century." Wut. How did Oda know about this? He was 23 when he wrote this.
I'm just posting this page to add another superfluous counter, because its not fun if I don't have to check and recheck my stuff all the time.Obscured df power demonstrations: 1
No one dies in One Piece yet guys. He's just hiding. Also, the rightmost guy in the bottom panel is one of those pandaman style secret characters. I'm sure, but I don't know what he's called.
In Impel Down, Buggy asked Luffy if he remembered his Buggy ball and talked about how he destroyed an entire village with it. This village is a little beat up by the end of the arc, but not destroyed. So, the village he was talking about was probably the one mentioned here. Also, the fact that Luffy insults Buggy's nose might be traced here.
Hey, remember how Nami's good with ropes? She ties up Buggy's body parts later on, too. The lack of Nami bondage porn is a mystery. Also, I just noticed that the image quality is surprisingly good for some reason.
Chapter 10. Where chapter 9 went is a mystery too. I think Nami's drinking prowess was only mentioned one time after this, in Whiskey Peak. I'm sure early One Piece fans that predicted Nami was up and alert because of this page were very proud of themselves.
Luffy bit through his cage in Triller Bark. I'd like to think that he spent some time along his journey practicing and training cage munching in case this situation happened again.
Something I forgot about on the last picture. Whats that guy with the ladder doing? How is he doing it, anyway?Anyway, remember how Nami can knock out normal people in one hit with her staff? Yea, she can totally do that. Its in the first opening and everything.
This sure lacks any impact whatsoever now. The real reason for this page is that guy in the bottom left panel. I have no idea why his face shape bothers me so much. Maybe its because it looks like he has a snake biting down on it.
This is what used to pass for strength and endurance for Zoro. Its pretty amazing seeing how far everyone has gotten (or in Buggy's case, how much he hasn't).
Unlike Laboon and Dorry/Broggy, Shushu's story is completely self-contained. The only people involved (all one of them) are confirmed dead, so unless his master's doctors show up its a pretty safe skip. Anyway, check out Luffy's muscles. Also, Mohji's shows have little claws on them.
Is Shushu the mascot for his master's brand of dog food? I don't even want to think about it, so I won't.
Either Oda already knew that Luffy was going to be the son of a guy named Dragon and put in this little Dracula thing as the most shadowy foreshadowing that comes to mind or he made this, though it was pretty cool, and decided to make his dad's name Dragon. Or this has nothing to do with anything. I don't even want to think about it, so I won't.
As a result of this page I believe that Oda knew exactly who was going to join the crew and how. It may have changed over the years, but the Nth chapters make me believe it changed very little. This page specifficaly means that he knew was he was going to do to make Nami a real crewmember a year before the Arlong arc, if nothing else.
Cabaji can breathe fire. Nobody says anything, despite the fact that Nami freaks out over Buggy and Luffy, but later when Franky breathes fire everyone assumes he has a devil fruit. Guess they forgot.
Just posting this because some people forget about it, and how awesome/stupid Zoro was back in the day.
Please note that Eneru and Kuma never called themselves swordsmen. Do the fandom a favor and post this page whenever anyone talks about his promise to never lose. Keep this post in mind when Zoro loses to Mihawk and he says something different, making me look like a retard.
I do need help with this one, though. The tops don't have blades or seem to be capable of causing any meaningful amount of damage whatsoever. Maybe its supposed to be a distraction or something, I don't know.
>>5489 Kinda helps that he seems to be shouting out ACROBAT TRICK as he does it. somehow. Which would imply to them it's not due to a devil fruit. This is why these kind of things annoy me, people talk nonsense in an attempt to be 'witty' and just seem stupid.
By the way, I'm not even trying to keep track of chapters anymore. This page is already in chapter 18, which just goes to show how long the first chapter was/how fast I'm getting. Apparently the real restriction on Buggy's feet is that anything he has his feet do must be physically possible if his body was attached. So, he can do things like this, but can't lift his own feet with his hands.
>>5490>was
Ok, important stuff time. Blah blah Rayleigh but also another thing. Or many things, as is the case. Every single one of these guys was a Roger pirate, however that ship might not be the Oro Jackson for reasons that are coming up soon.
>>5495Zoro hasn't been in the main story for over a year, so I'm started to get out of touch with the fact that he's still around.Anyway Buggy here thinks that Roger doesn't put enough emphasis on treasure and that the future Pirate King and his crew don't know what a pirate really is. You guys really have no idea how hard it is to go without reaction images during a thing like this.
>>5493So the fact that Franky doesn't explicitly say its just a trick means that Nami will assume its not a trick despite seeing an identical trick before? Ok.Seeing as how Buggy is helping Luffy help Whitebeard and Shanks is helping Whitebeard with Kaidou, no Buggy, I don't think you'll be enemies. Especially not after running away crying from a Shanks level pirate.
POSSIBLY IMPORTANTWhen Buggy and Shanks were in the crew they still believed that Devil fruits were a rumor. This means that Roger was not the pirate king yet, or that they somehow managed to avoid finding out the truth about devil fruits along their Grand Line journey despite coming into contact with characters such as Shiki that were shown to have a devil fruit when they fought against the Roger crew.
DEFINITELY IMPORTANTDONs physically manifest in the one piece world. Check out Nami down there in the last panel.
DEFINITELY UNIMPORTANTSorry everyone, but I am unable to resist posting this page. The reaction face is too strong in this one, too powerful for me to resist, but not mighty enough to get me to crop it.
I had a paragraph about how Nami only hurts the ones she loves, but I decided to keep this as ship and guy harem free as long as possible.
I'm so flustered that my grammar is starting to corrode. Posting this page because a. Its obviously foreshadowing that she will use needle attacks to get by defenses, which thunder lance tempo is the result of (lance=pointy like a needle) and more greatly reinforces needle lady Ms. Doublefinger and spear using Catarina Devon as thematic enemies. b. It allows me to show how easily you can support any half-assed analysis/theory when you have nearly 600 chapters and 13 years of material to use.
MORE GREATLY IT MEANS I NEED A BREAK.See you in an indefinite amount of time not exceeding an hour.
I think I'm going to get into the habit of not announcing breaks. MAP TIME
AGAINSo, this is actually something that I see most people get wrong. The Red Line doesn't go north to south, its on a slant. Similarly, the Grand Line is not the equator. Remember, just because compasses don't work in the Grand Line doesn't mean that they don't work outside of it, which means the first map's compass rose is accurate. It also means that the North Pole is located in North Blue, while the South Pole is in South Blue. Even I though that both were on or near the Red Line until I looked at these maps just now.
Most missing teeth in the series recover or move around, but Gaimon always has a gap on the upper right side of his teeth. This is were he got it.
Everyone that travels with Luffy becomes awesome. I wonder what Gaimon would be like now. Also, since finding One Piece will apparently trigger a war against the government, maybe finding One Piece will allow you to "buy" the world. Too bad Luffy doesn't want to conquer.
The awesome scene where Luffy psyches out Usopp by acting like Shanks was filler. U sad?
Can you imagine what the story would be like if we got Cabaji instead of Zoro? Well, maybe he was going to join the crew even if he was on Buggy's so who knows.
Wow look at Kaya's body. Even early Nami wasn't that thin, and back then (i.e. right now) she had boobs that were physically possible. Props to Oda for making her look like she would shatter if you poked her, which was not a euphemism. Total honesty time. Did anyone beside me think that Kuro adjusted his glasses like a tard before his revelation? Or did everyone just ignore it?The fact that the marks on his suit are shit is canon.
Oh my god I can't handle any more Kaya pass me my insulin. In the manga her room is on the first floor and Usopp just sits on the grass making this entire scene approximately 50% a ship baity as it was in the anime.
This is the first ever mention of dwarves, which are confirmed to exist because of the slave price list. Chalk another non-lie up for Captain Usopp.
>>5515Damn, look at how short his nose is...
Jango's not kneeling on the floor. He's doing some sort of weird balance squat on his toes. Anybody who knows about gymnastics or he like that wants to call me a retard may now do so now.
>>5516As Usopp gains confidence and experience he also gains length and girth. That is the way of the sea.Is Luffy hanging upside-down from a tree by the ankles in small panel really DON-worthy, Oda? Is it really?
>>5517>Anybody who knows about gymnastics>Anybody who knows about Michael Jackson
One s, two p's. Also, Yasopp is blonde, just check my very first post. No idea why its colored in, however it does make him look more like Usopp.
Holy shit.
Even I forgot that Usopp can take out two guys with guns by himself.
