Goddamn, Sasuke's turned into a Linkin Park song.

Between Sakura planning to kill Sasuke and Kakashi being Kakashi, this was a pretty awesome chapter.

But, yeah, good chapter. I would have liked to see Sakura fight Sasuke, a little, but Kakashi vs. Sasuke is also pretty meaningful. Given how worn out Sasuke has tobe right now, and Naruto quickly making his way to the scene, I'm rather curious how they'll handle this fight.

It seems unlikely Naruto will really get to fight Sasuke, especially since the author stated at Jump Festa Naruto and Sasuke's rematch will probably be the last fight of series. What I think is most likely to happen is Kakashi will force Sasuke to retreat, probably with Madara's help, and then Madara will focus on getting Sasuke to replace Nagato as the one syncing with the statue (probably by convincing him he needs more power).

Also, this chapter continues the trends of any expression Sasuke makes somehow being creepy and hilarious at the same time.

Ok Kishi, now here's how you DON'T do this:

Well, I don't hate this.

Talking with some friends, we see a few possible outcomes, mainly due to the fact that Naruto is headed there.

(1) Sasuke delivers a killing blow to Kakashi as Naruto shows up, finally cementing Naruto's need to kill them.

(2) Naruto shows up as Kakashi is about to deliver the killing blow to Sasuke, and gets in the way. This would keep the status quo intact.

(3) Madara kills Kakashi as Kakashi attempts to land the killing blow on Sasuke, effectively making everything since bringing him back from the Pain fight worth jack-of-all-shit, because we already know Madara is a jerk and Sasuke still sits in "redemption range" from Naruto's perspective.

(4) Ochimaru/Kabuto shows up and steals the weakened Sasuke, trolling Kakashi, Naruto, and Madara. This would be the greatest "out-of-left-field" plot twist.

I'm rooting for option (4), myself.

OK, this may sound insane, but I think I'm developing a theory as two what the hell's with Madara's body, and why Zetsu is working with him.

OK, take a look at the upper left panel and notice the liquid on Madara's knew arm and that mass of what looks like Zetsu's parts behind him while Zetsu's white half himself does not show up against until the panel after.

The theory which I'm developing now is that Madara spent a long time in a very weakened state and Zetsu (or at least his white half) was a lab experiment to have some way to have a constant source of replacement body-parts (hence the loyalty).

I don't see any QUALITY but I do see work that's just gotten... boring looking. There's something so static about Kishimoto's art these days in comparison to his original work. In a technical sense, yeah, it's better. Proportions, linework, etc, etc, etc... But i dunno. I look at all of his art these day and it just feels like it has no substance. ...Sakura has super-strength. That is the one think Kishi has allowed her to have, besides the cliche healing powers.
In a rare twist, Sasuke's ability to pull new powers out of his ass actually has negative consequences. He's going blind in a way that involves crying blood, doesn't have that much chakra left and is distracted from being a massive tool.
And yet Sasuke is able to effortlessly disarm Sakura and by lifting her by the collar, somehow prevent her from crushing his bones.
...God dammit.

Naruto (as in the manga) has been holding steadily at Pretty Darn Good in my book since the end of the invasion. Ninja politics, The Goddamn Killerbee, interesting backgrounds for Danzo and Karin, and now Naruto's relationship with Sasuke finally showing a new development (rather than another round of "I am even more hateful and bitter now" "I find this news even more depressing than the last time.").

Bullshit, that's just trying to blame the time skip for everything you think is wrong with "recent" chapters.

What the art is like shifts gradually over the time when it is made, not suddenly at some arbitrary point; the art style and quality for the first two arcs post-time skip is pretty much objectively the same as in the last pre-skip arc.

For that matter it's not some strictly linear "decline" point where the art suddenly went from always getting better to always getting worse, it's just him shifting his style a lot. In the last year or two the art seems overly simplistic, but by the end of the series it may shift again to another different style which has its own advantages and flaws.

I was expecting that Shikamaru shot, In Kishimoto's defence, it's an early design and evolved rather quickly. But I agree, the manga was inconsistent and that chapter really glares out that fact.
