You. Yes you. You need to go watch Baccano! right now. RIGHT NOW. http://www.hulu.com/baccanoIt's like someone mashed together Van Hellsing and Cowboy Bebop, then decided there needed to be a dash of Excel Saga in there as well. It's only 13 episodes, and has a cast the size of Bleach. But, instead of focusing on two or three characters for four or five episodes (and then giving one of them three flashback episodes), it focuses on just about all of them every episode, jumping time periods as it does so. This is confusing in the beginning, but eventually starts to make sense. And you can't help but love what seems to be the mascot pair for the series, Miriam and Issac.
>>28939>Miria and IssacI have no idea where you got the "m"
Aizen get out this is not Bleach.
I was watching this through Comcast's FUNImation OnDemand channel.. UNTIL THEY SKIPPED TWO EPISODES FFFFFFFFF. So, I'm gonna have to watch this on Hulu. It's good stuff.
>>28939>It's only 13 episodesActually, there's 3 more episodes which were only on DVD (though they're also on this hulu channel).I just finished it on DVD like a week ago. Shit was AWESOME. I definitely agree that I absolutely adore Issac and Miria. The only thing I didn't like was Dallas. Not because he was a jerk, but because his whole character was just a blatant ploy to make Luck look better.
>>28949Just finishing up Ep. 1 and... FFFF STUPID SEXY LUCK.
I watched the first 9 or so episodes and to be honest, I didn't really care for it. I'm normally not bugged by non-linearity (Pulp Fiction is one of my favorite films) but here I found it more frustrating than engaging, especially when some of the cast members looked alike.I did like the characters though, especially Ladd. Might finish it sometime when I'm in the right mood.
>>28944For some reason I keep hearing it as "Miriam".
About to start ep. 8 before I call it quits for the night and so far, I'm in love. I occasionally get lost, but so far, the story's been doing a good job of establishing what is happening when. It just seems like there's so many characters and only 8 episodes left to cover them all. And hot diggity damn, what a dub, right? It's actually really good.Still have a crush on Luck, who isn't getting enough screentime for me to be genuinely happy. Firo's cute too, but the way Luck says Firo, it sounds like he's saying Fiero which makes me think of Wicked and... yeah. Hm.Delicious Baccano! I desire moar.
>>29025Oh yeah, I forgot to mention the dub. The dub is absolutely excellent, one of the highest quality I've ever encountered in anime. Once I have money, this is yet another series that I'll be getting on DVD.
OH GOD JACUZZI JUST KISSED NICE.brb gonna go squeal like a happy little girl in the corner now don't mind me
I should watch it again. I couldn't really follow the plot and was just staring at the pretty people. Especially stupid sexy Luck.>>28992>especially when some of the cast members looked alike.I think the character design is excellent and the characters are easily distinguishable. It's just that there are SO MANY of them. Just look at this page:http://anisearch.de/?page=anime&id=4016&s=seiyuuIt's crazy.
>>29047Suddenly, characters! Thousands of them!
Okay, so I decided to watch episode 9 before class and...What. WHAT. ... AWESOME!
>>29052But. And I thought... Shit, I'm only up to 7. ._.
>>29058YOU FOOL! WHY DID YOU LOOK!?!?
STARTING TO WATCH THIS TONIGHT.
>>29061YOU BETTER. Or I will be so disappoint, Doc. So very disappoint.
Just watched the first 4 episodes. Shit's cash.
Oh god, Isaac's voice actor is fuckwin. Also. "We'll handle them love. ANGRY LOVE. Carefully. VERY CAREFULLY! LET'S GRIND THEIR CARCASSES INTO DUST!And then we Isaac and Miriam watching them and smiling brightly.
OH MY GOD. OH MY GOD.WHATEVER YOU DO, IF YOU VALUE THE TWISTS OF THIS SERIES, DON'T READ THIS. FOR THE LOVE OF GOD.SERIOUSLY. DON'T.OKAY. I WARNED YOU. DON'T DO IT, MAN.HE'S AN IMMORTAL!
>>29133MIRIANO SECOND MSeriously folks.
Just finished ep. 13.;~; So wonderful.(Now I want to read the novels.)
>>29147Best part is he doesn't realize it for about 70 years
>>29159I have never laughed so hard in my entire life. What a damn moment that was."Miria, my dear?""What's up, Cat Daddy?"
(Spoilers for last episode)The food's pretty good, but the owner is SUCH an asshole.
>>29249"No soup for you!"
Finished it! It's amazing!HAVE SOME AMVS.
In my mind all of these are flawed and have plenty of room for improvement, yet have at least one aspect that makes them a blast to watch anyway. In this case, it's that it's so damn infectious!
Well okay, I lie, >>29322 isn't really lacking.
THIS IS A SILLY AMV.
I watched this. So now you have to too. Your curiosity leaves you no other choice!
>>29147That was revealed in the first episode. Pay attention.
>>29458wait wat
>>29458See, after a while of going "oh jesus," I realized this, but it was such a short moment, barely revisted or, hell, even mentioned at all at any other point in the show. I guess it just didn't register in my brain in quite the same way that Czeslaw going "OH JESUS GOD" did.
>>29459It was. 18:25http://www.hulu.com/watch/98742/baccano-the-vice-president-doesnt-say-anything-about-the-possibility-of-him-being-the-main-character
Just finished.Holy shit awesome.
This was incredible.Thank you Nurse for pestering me to watch it.ALL OF YOU ON /jam/ SHOULD WATCH IT TOO!
>>29828YOU HEAR THAT, /jam/?! GO WATCH BACCANO! NURSE HAS GOOD TASTE.
I would gladly watch it, if Hulu was avairable outside the US. Bummer.
>>29876:< The subs are available, if that's any consolation? I don't know how super awesome they are tho, considering how sexy the dub is.It's still a very sexy show. I know you can download the entire series off 4chan's /rs/.
HEY LADIES. THIS SEXY OFFER EXPIRES ON THE 30TH. WHY AREN'T YOU WATCHING BACCANO! YET!? DON'T BE A FAGGOT NOW. WATCH IT AND FEEL YOUR HEART SWELL WITH GLEE.
>>29905i live in sweden T_T
>>29878Well, I know place where I can find subbed series. But still, it's a pity, since I really enjoy good subs in any language. Even when english isn't my mother language.
I marathoned the whole series in about two days a couple days back. Was I the only one that found when Vino was torturing Czes really unnerving but in a really good way? When Czes just randomly runs away in fear, screaming in the last episode I never laughed so hard at an anime.
>>29972Him chatting with Claire is, in my mind, the most hilarious example of Villians Out Shopping anywhere.
>>29972It made me think of Gurochan. Yes, it was unnerving.
Here's the thing. Baccano! is like Transformers.Y'know how in Transformers, when they ask who your favorite character is, they really mean your SECOND favorite? Because Optimus Prime is everyone's real favorite character? If someone asks who your favorite Baccano! character is, they really mean your second. Because Isaac and Miria are your favorite characters.
>>30044Really? I've noticed way more fanart of Vino and Chane than of any of the other characters.
>>30064That's because the fan artists feel that their pens are not worthy to tackle such hilarious awesome.
>>30065He's right. They are a very daunting task. Only a select few can express the eyeball popping joy that Isaac and Miria seem to radiate.
>>30064Well, you see, fanartists want their artwork to be different, right? So they get noticed? So when they want to draw Baccano! fanart, they think to themselves "Gosh and golly-gee-willikers, I sure do like Isaac and Miria! I should draw them! Oh, but shucks, since they're by far the greatest characters in the series, there's probably already a ton of fanart of them out there. Oh well, I guess I'll just have to settle for one of the lesser characters... At least I'll stand out!"It's a sad, sad irony.
I just found this.Is this official art, though?
>>30073Not official, just awesome.Oh, that reminds me:ATTENTION, LADIES, GENTLEMEN, AND BONES: HULU'S SHOWING EXPIRES IN TWO DAYS. ALL RESIDENTS OF THE UNITED STATES NEED TO GET YE HAPPY ASSES OVER THERE AND WATCH IT.LOOK AT HOW HAPPY ISAAC AND MIRIA ARE. DON'T YOU WANT TO BE A PART OF THAT?YEAH, YOU FUCKIN' DO.
>>30074That is good to know! I wasn't planning on watching it for a while, so I guess I'm gonna have to bump it up on my schedule. Thanks for the heads up.
>>30093Just doing my civic duty, anonymous. Think nothing of it.
>>30072>Implying Vino is a lesser character.
>>30095Vino, stop being so awesome. You're making the rest of us feel bad because we can never be you.
>>30096How about some Fail Graham to even things up?
>>30098I actually like Graham more than Vino, and way more than Ladd Russo. Probably because Graham didn't kill anyone on screen, anyways, he was more of a "fun" crazy.Plus he caught bullets with a wrench, I mean goddamn that's some crazy shit.
>>30099And he looks like a cross between Viral and Spanner from Katekyo Hitman Reborn!Graham, you are my third favorite character.
>>30098Aw, but Graham is so hilarious."Oh my! It appears I've said something of actual intelligence! Show me some love, boys!"And then his lackeys just going "yaaay."
>>30099>>30110I hated the character from the get go. From his ramblings that never seemed to go anywhere, to his stupid wrench, to his laughable super strength, really took me out of the story with that bullshit, before that all there was, was Vino and his ridiculous acrobatics, every thing else at least seemed plausible but then here comes this fucknut who could flip a car, disassemble it in the air, and then leave a massive crater in the ground by hitting it with a wrench.I much more preferred Ladd, at least he was just a sadist who had a twisted view on life and death.
>>30112I find him entertaining, but I also share your complaints. His power level's too out-of-place.
So what's black, white, and red all over?THIS FUCKING TRAIN.Best series I've seen recently. And man, I can't NOT love Miria and Isaac.
>>30115I don't know, I just saw him as a filler character to fill Ladd's spot of the token crazy on the outside while Ladd was incarcerated. Also, "Thank you. Fuck you. The villain is here!" is possible the greatest thing one could say while walking into a room.
Just finished episode 12.There is no way I can describe how blown my mind is right now. It was epic after epic after epic. This series is even awesomer than I originally thought.ONLY TWO DAYS LEFT TO WATCH IT LEGIT FREE. DO SO IF YOU HAVEN'T ALREADY!
>>30175PRAISE AND HALLELUJAH! TESTIFY!
Just started ep 8:"The two have recently made off with a large chunk of the fortune of New Jersey millionaire RAYMOND GENOARD."NOTHING IS MEANINGLESS, THERE ARE NO LOOSE ENDS, THIS SHOW IS INSANE
"It's okay, if his body isn't here, it means he was swallowed whole by the monster. Therefore he still survives with its stomach."
>>30229Followed by adorable crayon drawings.
Just finished twelve:This is the best show ever.
I have to wait until people stop talking to me on messenger. Sucks up a lot of processor power, makes the video choppy as fuck.In the meantime, I'm going to do some soul-searching and try to figure out why I'm so reluctant to check out new series'. I may or may not secretly be an egotistical misogynist.
>>30255Well you don't have much time if you want to be legit about it.Also Don Runorata somehow managed to sweep the most awesome rewards."Does that help you understand how I feel about this matter?"
I'm planning to gun through six episodes tonight and finish the rest tomorrow to beat the clock.Just started episode 2. ISAAC AND MIRIA CONFIRMED FOR FAVORITE CHARACTERS
>>30257Gustavo's death in the novels is way cooler. Luck stabs him. In the neck. With the bones of his own severed hand.
>>30260That's pretty hardcore, but it's the elegance that I liked about that kill. If I want hardcore murder, well... do Ladd and Claire exist for other reasons I'm unaware of?
>>30267I'll give you that. It's just so damn nonchalant. No one else in the room flinches at all. Honestly, I love both. The other kill just satisfies the Luck fangirl in me. You know how it goes.And... uh... Well... Vino exists to be hilarious, too? I mean, him asking Rachel for love advice is easily one of the best scenes in the entire series.
The Hulu episode summaries are hilarious.
>>30260I really need to read the novels now. Manga or actual straight text?
>>30273http://www.baka-tsuki.org/project/index.php?title=BaccanoActual text. The translations are REALLY rough, but they're readable. (They've been translated from Japanese to Chinese to English, so the fact that you can understand them at all is a goddamn miracle.) Some of them aren't finished and they haven't even started Peter Pan in Chains/Alice in Jail. (AKA the one where Firo, Ladd, Huey, and ISAAC all go to Alcatraz. Yeah.) The one I mentioned is Drugs & the Dominoes, which is the original version of the anime's 1932 storyline. It's really good and it's finished! Hallelujah!
So that's why the crybaby got a no doubt incredibly painful tattoo on his face. OH JACUZZI YOU ARE SUCH A GOOD BOY.
Well, all done now. No words to express my happiness. Hulu is apparently featuring a new series every month from Funimation, so hopefully we get something equally awesome next month.>>30274Nuts, that kind of stuff is annoying to read. I don't suppose there are plans to translate it? It's quite a manga, so I don't know if anyone would pick it up.
>>30279No plans that I've heard of, and the manga's just the Flying Pussyfoot storyline again. I know there's a petition for a second season of anime, but... well, you know. Internet petitions. :/
And so I too finish it.BALLS TO THE WALL.I KNEW we'd see that rat again.
SOFUCKINGAMAZING!Still watchin the bonus eps right now...Though I have just one question.Does Lua actually do something in the novels?Cause I was wondering why she had a title shot...
FINISHED IN TIME YESSSFantastic. And a brainsplodingly amazing work of directing. Loads and loads of characters + jumping around the timeline like a frog on cocaine could go so terribly, terribly wrong but they somehow made it work. Well done to the novelist, too. And the dub was great!I noticed that the conductor turned was in the intro, and after he was 'shot' I thought to myself that it was a bummer that I'd keep having to see a dead guy. Then Vino came along and I was like OH SHIT SONHow much does the anime differ from the novels? Does anyone know? Also, I heard that Baccano! didn't do that well in Japan, hence no second season. Can anyone confirm/deny?
>>30341Oh! Also, I have a question about something that wasn't clear to me.We know that there was some form of the immortality elixir on the train, which is why the blacksuits were doing their thing and why the senator was also trying to get his hands on it.-How did it get on there? Who brought it?- Was it being delivered to the senator, or was he trying to steal it too?-What happened to it?
>>30342No no you misunderstood. The Black Suits are after the Senators wife to hold her hostage and free their leader. the only special item on the train is a unique explosive.
>>30343Ahhh. All the talk about 'If we do this we'll be immortal' and 'it's so close' did confuse me.What was the senator trying to get, then?
>>30344Immortality! Him and Bartolo Runorata were in cahoots to get Dallas, who they could then study in a lab to achieve their own immortality. The Black Suits/Lemares/Whatever you wanna call them were trying to free Huey LaForet because they thought he'd give THEM the secret to immortality.
Last day to watch...?The notice saying that they would take it down after the month is over is gone. I don't know if that means they'll keep it around, or if it's a precursor to taking it down.
>>30388They were supposed to take it down on the 30th, but I'm still watchan the last ep right now. So... who knows? I'd like for it to stick around. As it stands: http://www.hulu.com/baccano THERE IS STILL TIME! GO FORTH!
It's November 1st and Baccano! is still up.That makes me happy.
GENTLEMEN! It's still up!
>>30654I just realized--we see the scene of the chick with the spear slicing into Isaac's ear, but we never revisit that scene, whereas most others are revisited. We also see Nice, Jaccuzi, and their gang behind the spear chick.Did I miss this, or did they never extrapolate?
>>30657Never got brought up again ever.
>>30657Nope. She's another homunculus, IIRC. She's sweet on the dude next to her in the bandana.I'd also like to point out that Claire is very literally god tier. <3
It's still up. I'm okay with this.
Just finished the final episode. I can't remember the last time I enjoyed an anime series this much besides when I first discovered One Piece. I mean heck, I ended up just loving all the characters. I was even rooting for the utter psychopath. Ladd Russo was hilarious. But the best part, the part that I can't believe they pulled off... was how they managed to tell us so much at the start, and then make us feel tension and excitement through the rest of the series. If you pay attention (especially to the different years), then you already know that no one is going to die right from the first episode. But it was so exciting! Even when they didn't explain some of the characters as well as they should have, they still were very interesting. The last three episodes felt more like extra, but then again the whole start and ending of the series is based around the concept that we shouldn't focus on things like main characters, or beginnings and endings. I like to think of 1-13 as the main course, and 14-16 a dessert.Just what can I say? I'm amazed by this series. I'm ordering the DVD's for Christmas.
