Finally, the first chapter of the year. It's good to be back.

Well that certaily came out of nowhere. I was fearing Doflamingo would be all smug and outdoing all the plans, but I'm glad he doesn't seem to realise what is going on in the under docks.

Might be just me, but the way this one ended was rather...weak.
All and all, a solid chapter. Would wait another 2 weeks for next one.

I genuinely have no idea where this is going.

Good job, Oda.

>spoiler dude implies something about split personalities and Lunch from Dragon Ball
>hell yeah Becky totally flipped out and slaughtered everyone in a berserker rage
>it was actually Cabbage

I want to like you Becky but you make it really hard. Ugh, why can't she just do something interesting already. Or, like, display personality traits. ANYTHING

She's a woman, brah. Oda doesn't give a fuck overly wasting his time developing them when he could be doing a dude instead.

Violet... What the shit are you doing...

So she's the princess, encouraged Doflamingo to fuck with the strawhats... Seemed pretty intent on fucking over Sanji and the crew... But was that obfuscation? Was her plan, ultimately, to get Doflamingo to invite his own downfall to the island and fuck up because of his confidence and bravado? Or did it just so happen to work out that way... Hm.

>>32730
Well, she joined the pirates and offered her power in exchange for sparing King Riku's life. I guess until then she's been waiting for someone to come around and save them.

I guess she tried to fuck over Sanji at first because she didn't think they had the guts and power to take on doflamingo, and she had to keep up appearances. Now, through the power of Sanji's love, she's all team Strawhat now.

>>32727
Well, she was obviously the only one skilled enough to dodge a killing blow, so I mean, there's that. She's obviously no pushover.

I like how Sogeking is one of the few Strawhats Doflamingo considers a problem. This arc is shaping up to be the best one ever.

>>32727
Because Oda hates women.

>>32729
Well, I did say she was the one who stood up, so I still get one ball eaten. The left one.

Man what was the point of shooting him a couple of times in the chest apart from to show guns might as well be water pistols in One Piece?

I remember like six years ago when everyone was going on that Oda was refreshing for women characters in shonen because Nami and Robin were actually useful, but now he's sexist?

Because things can't change over time? Are you being deliberately obtuse.
>> No. 32740
>>32738
I wouldn't say sexist as much as he is short-sighted and old school when it comes to women. He has strong females in the story like Boa and Big Mom, but the majority of every other woman is just there as mainly eye candy. They never quite keep up with the guys.

I'm not really at a SJW-level of enlightenment and fervor when it comes to this topic, but I also understand why some people would be getting pissed at him about it.

I'm afraid she's too busy trying to fight off everyone without actually hurting them (both physically and emotionally) to bother with petty thoughts and activities.
You have all the other girls for that.

Well he's still better than, say, Kishimoto but that's saying very very little.

One Piece is an old-school series. It's been going for seventeen years without substantive updating for the times. And honestly, that's a good thing, I'd much prefer an Oda who sticks to his guns than one who goes chasing every trend that comes along. But, unfortunately, that means its portrayal of women is also stuck in the late-mid nineties, while in general shonen manga has improved in this regard since then (still not nearly ideal, but it's better).

Would it be nice if Oda would adopt some modern sensibilities as far as female characters are concerned? Yeah. Is that likely to happen? Probably not. And while that's unfortunate, it's also okay given how One Piece is in many respects a refugee from a different era.

It's true, Nami used to be GAR as fuck when it came to navigation, she's still technically the most important crew member but since Oda doesn't spend any time on navigation details Nami is stuck flopping her tits about and occasionally weather-magicking them out of a tornado or something.

Please no

Are you talking about the three week break that just ended?
>> No. 32757
>>32755

WSJ (and all the other weekly publications) skips two weeks around the new year for holiday purposes. These are the so-called 'double issues', so called for reasons that are too inane and stupid to bother relating.

However, because these issues are already produced and shipped to retail locations, and the raws for our scanlations come from stores that break the street date and sell them early, we actually get scanlations before the magazine hits shelves in Japan. And for this New Years break, that means that when we get chapters has little to do with when they actually ship in Japan. We might get the next chapter insanely early, in which case it is a three week wait, or we might get them somewhere in the middle, in which case it's a week on either side. The point is, there's going to be two weeks without a chapter around this time of year.

I think that time has already passed, but to be honest I'm not completely sure.
