I don't think the Dinosaurs were some sort of proto-Kaiju, since it would have been noticed the dinos were silicon-based instead of carbon based. Plust it would mean modern day birds would also be silicon-based organisms.

I'm not the only one to think that. He even had the traditional arrogant mecha pilot jacket.

I found it cool that they gave shout-outs to other mech series in there, such as the VOTOMS helmets for the Russians.

It was a tremendous lapse of judgement for Stacker to not send Striker along with Cherno and Typhoon, and to leave Gypsy at the Shatterdome (why not send Raleigh with another of the candidates?). Otachi would have been easily dealt with before Leatherback arrived, and by then even with the EMP, both Gypsy and Cherno (no way Cherno was less "analog") would have been enough to contain the Kaiju.

Striker was too valuable to risk for the plan. Given that it gave Slattern a run for its money it was a good idea. Stacker couldn't have anticipated the acid, EMP or Otachi's tail. Holding Gipsy back was kind of a bad idea but both those kaiju were made to break the THREE active Jaegers. The only reason Gipsy cleaned house was because the Masters thought it was gone.

Slattern and his groupies probably would have torn through the other two anyways.

I highly disagree with you, sir. Pro-Jaegerism is a blight, those damnable machines suck on precious taxpayer dollars that could be better emplyed to move this world's human population into highly concentrated areas around the pacifc ocean. That would be the safest response to the Kaiju problem.

And why do whe puny earthlings call it a "problem" to begin with? How dare we? Ask yourself, why do I support the PPDC which only impose their jaeger-privilege onto the innocent Kaiju masses? Is trans-dimensional specism the newest form of bigotry?

Even if the wall had worked as hoped and stopped the kaiju onslaught... imagine what it would have meant for the world.

No more commercial trans-pacific travel, so going from USA to Australia or East Asia would have taken days, not hours. Shipping via sea or by air across the pacific would have been forbidden. Entire fishing and whaling industries destroyed. Deep sea research stymied since they can't reach the deepest part of the world's oceans. Only military surveillance drones would have been allowed to enter.

I assume all that was still allowed before the wall, because we saw that fishing boat at the beginning of the film.

Perhaps if the walls launched missiles.
>> No. 38248
I'm honestly not sure how they thought the walls would work, period. Were the outer hulls made of pure titanium or something? And the inner hulls just held up the outer ones?

It did take the one Kaiju an hour to break through in Sydney, so they had *some* sort of plan, it just wasn't strong enough.
>> No. 38249
The only way it would have worked is if they had lined the inner part of the wall with Megaman spikes.

Of course, if the wall had worked it still wouldn't have worked because Otachi could just fly over it. They would have to build a ceiling too.
>> No. 38250
Well, looking through Travis Beacham's tumblr,
it seems there's a comic series confirmed.

Which is fucking great news.

There's already rumours as to what artists might be involved.
>> No. 38251
It was implied in the movie that the Wall was just smoke and mirrors, to give the masses a false sense of security while the rich and powerful were relocated to "safe" places inland. Those politicians Pentecost talked to early in the movie were traitors to the human race, at that point that had already forsaken everybody and were just lokking to save their own hides.

Yeah. It's not farfetched to believe that some politicians would think that's a good idea. Imagine how much money that cost, how many lives it took.

They still thought it worked after Sydney. Now it might work in tandem with Jaegers.

It opens in China tomorrow and in Japan on August 9. It's expected to make mad buck in both these markets, but in China it's up against Fast & Furious 6 and White House Down (SARFT, the Chinese movie poobahs, likes to bunch Hollywood blockbusters together so that they eat each others' box office and give local movies space to breathe, a tactic that seems to be working). However, China has a track record of giving marginalised movies a second wind (like After Earth...for some unfathomable reason), and the Chinese seriously love big, loud, city-destroying spectacle, especially if there's giant robots involved. If there's any movie that's practically custom-built for the Chinese market, it's this one.
