For the longest time, I thought I hated Doctor Who. Every episode I saw seemed like a big pile of poorly written, poorly characterized, wibbly wobbly timey wimey bullshit. The one that stands out in particular is "Blink." It was advertised to me as scary, and...it wasn't. Like, it established the angels as SCARY and THREATENING and DON'T BLINK OR YOU'RE DEAD, and the idea of these things that only move when you're not looking and can move so fast is SO CREEPY and it has SUCH POTENTIAL, and then it completely bent over backwards to defang them. "Oh, don't worry, they just send you back in time! Look! Everyone this happens to goes on to live a long happy life!" Also, all the female characters seemed insipid and dull. That one girl literally married the first person she met in the past after he refused to stop following her, which is damn creepy. And what was the deal with that montage of statues at the end that were clearly not angels? They just spent forty minutes showing me weeping angel after weeping angel. I know what they look like. That would be like ending Silent Hill 2 with a montage of Egyptian and South American pyramids.
Just recently I realized that I've only seen episodes written by Moffat. Do y'all think this might have something to do with it? Should I give 9 a try before I write off the whole series?
