Hope they remember that Superman doesn't have a "dark" bone in his body. Worst he ever gets is when you make him mad and then that is just a stony look that lets you know you've crossed his line and you are in it deep.

to be fair, Snyder's movies have been a Frank Miller comic adaptation, Watchmen, and a zombie flick. Kinda hard NOT to be dark in those movies.

Still plenty of color in Dawn of the Dead, I thought. Nolan's producing too, and with as much love he's put into Batman, I'd doubt he'd like Snyder make it too dark. We'll have to see though...I can't think of much light-hearted awe and wonder in Nolan's work either.

Indeed, he's got the "super slouch" going and everything when being Clark. He really got that the persona was more than "just glasses" which is what it gets parsed down to way too often now and is what leaves me a bit concerned with the movie as far as a good portrayal of both halves of the character/s. Best Batman is still Kevin Conroy because of the contrast between his Bruce and Batman persona which largely has fallen flat in just about all the live action films save Keaton who was the closest to getting it IMO. It just bugs me that with the current Superhero stuff in particular DC since Duality is kinda more their bag than Marvel (save Spidey being the one stand out) that they tend to get one or the other somewhat correct but never both. And I just cannot figure out what is missing from the equation.

It's for the best. John William's Superman score for the Richard Donner films were great, but Man of Steel needs to have a distinct theme of its own. If there's one lesson WB has learned from Superman Returns, it's that they need to stop cribbing from the Donner films.
>> No. 34862

Though it should learn from them. From what I've read about Superman being "Dark" (this was reportedly said by Snyder at the Comic Con panel) and some enthusiasm I've read in some writings of Superman just beating the crap out of people and not being the aforementioned "boy scout"(again reportedly shown footage at the panel)..it concerns me. And if they go down this road and still attempt a JL film with A Batman it wont work because they'd be too similar if Supes isn't uncompromising pillar of integrity that he needs to be in order for the other heroes to function. As for Zimmer would it be on the right track to say for a Superman score to look 180 degrees of what he did for Batman?

hmm? I was just saying Batman is a DARK knight, and Superman should therefore be a model superhero, not a dark character. Alex Ross' interpretation is by far my favorite (not counting DCAU).

I also doubt Cavill will be able to top Christopher Reeves' performance as the all star Superman and the mild mannered Clark Kent.

BTW WTF is up with Hollywood's basketball texture costume fetish???
>> No. 35216
So, I saw The Cold Light of Day last week, starring Henry Cavill. I KNEW this guy had SOMETHING to do with Superman, but couldn't be bothered to remember what and only just connected that he's starring in Man of Steel.

Let me just say that he wasn't irredeemably bad in The Cold Light of Day, but he wasn't very good in eat either. The whole movie was pretty bland overall, and he didn't make a very good leading man in it. It probably would have been better if they had Bruce Willis pick up some of the slack for the leading roll and made it about a CIA father getting his family back with the help of his douchebag (he seriously was) Business Consultant son instead of just killing him off in the first 20 minutes[/i]. That would have been more interesting.

The movie did have a few things I liked: The protagonist doesn't just go on a killing spree, and thus has a a body count of one (Which is mainly an accident), they actually took the high route of not torturing a guy, and they avoided having a mandatory romance story (albeit,l in a kind of awkward way in that the female "lead" [spoiler]was his sister
).

So yeah, if you want to get excited over Man of Steel and Henry Cavill, skip Cold Light of Day. If you want to ground your expectations more, then go see it, I suppose.
