SPOILERS
One of the more interesting takes on zombies I've seen in a while. I've seen versions of zombies spawned by parasites before, but the victims remaining aware and trapped within their shambling bodies is a really unsettling concept. Man, I really hope the reporter makes it out okay. D: Also, does it feel to anyone else like this one might continue next chapter? A lot of chapters have rather abrupt ends, but something about this one makes me feel like there should be more.

I'm sure like the female cop, she'll be a regular character. Though really, the poor girl has only herself to blame.

>> No. 58022

I hope that's the case. Actually I think the two characters would kind of compliment each other: the cop who wants nothing to do with all this strangeness but who keeps getting pulled back in, and the reporter who keeps plunging into it, even though she should have learned better.

Admittedly her decision to blithely follow Fran was not the wisest, but somehow I just can't fault her. I respect her dedication to being a good reporter (especially since she's trying to report on matters of actual gravity, and not just sifting through some celebrities' garbage), even if she's rather foolhardy.

South Park too, now that I think about it.
"...the first thing you need to do is make sure that you do not just go out and start decapitating zombies left and right. Do you understand? Do not start decapitating zombies left and right!"
"All you have to do is kill the original zombie. The one that started the whole mess. Once you kill the original zombie, all the others zombies will turn back to normal."

However, both Stroker and Hoop and South Park were handling things in a considerably more lighthearted manner, since they're primarily comedies. Franken Fran actually took the horrific potential of the concept and saw it fully realized, and the fact that the victims are actually aware, but unable to help themselves makes it that much more chilling.

The sound effects were indeed delightful. :)
Fran's voice sounded a lot like what I hear in my head when I'm reading her, but Veronica's kind of threw me. I guess because she's a killing machine, and in some ways more street-savvy than Fran, I tend to read her as sounding older than her apparent age, so hearing a more generally age-appropriate voice seemed odd.

Oh, and a preview pic of the volume 6 cover apparently shows that Gavrill has purplish hair and red eyes. I'm okay with this.

I suppose you could draw parallels between Kaneda's physical metamorphosis with her growth as a person (while ironically ultimately becoming something quite inhuman). Sometimes in Franken Fran, as in real life, weird and terrible things just happen. There's not any inherent sense or moral logic to it, and we're left to simply try and sort it out ourselves. Myself, I don't think too hard about possible moral implications and just laugh at the morbid humor.

That got me thinking about it differently.

The guy's infatuation (note: infatuation, not love) with her was based purely on her playing to his ego. In her recovery, he wasn't clinging to "her" as much as the idea of "her."

He spent so much time being obsessed with her one act of flattery that he was blinded to the purposelessness of his endeavor, because she never actually "loved" him either, she felt a debt she owed. I don't know why I didn't see it, but they never really talked about each other/themselves directly aside from "hey remember that one time you cheered me on?"

Don't take this the wrong way though, but until I realized she could talk, I thought that Adorea was the artist's lover from Chapter 8, now that I think about it, she's far too tall and timid to fit the profile.

Dear /jam/,

I have something of a problem.

I recently hit it off with this great girl after everyone else ran off during a fascinating lecture she was giving in my med school. She's sweet, pleasant, cute, smart and has a great head (detachable too) for business. A lovely young lady.

We've dated been dating for a while because she often travels, and she even let me visit her home to meet her family and live-in staff, who while somewhat weary off me at first (and a little eager to pry me open), were highly professional and accommodating overall.

But she's quite brilliant, really brilliant, breathtakingly brilliant, beautifully brilliant. I don't resent her for it, but I feel that I'll eventually run out of things to talk to her about because her medicinal (not to mention scientific) knowledge eclipses my own. She's made my life more exciting but it's a two way street and I'd hate for her to feel bored and trapped by me.

I care about this person a lot, and while I'm not sure if it's 'love' I care about her happiness and wish to work harder so I can walk beside her with ease and deserve her affections, perhaps even meriting a position as her assistant if I prove skillful enough. Even if it means ending our relationship for a while so I can study, with the risk of someone else snatching her heart while I'm away.

When I told her of such she made a startling offer. A Brain-Enhancement surgery to increase my intellect, the cost of which I'd pay off via my services as an assistant. I have no doubt in my mind that she is capable of this feat and was quite touched by this proposition.

But I have to ask, putting my pride aside and possible malpractice, should I go for this? Or should I reach her level of knowledge through my own efforts?

There are a lot of factors to take into account, so much so that I must ask for your council.

Sincerely,
Confused

Go for the surgery, every time. What could possibly go wrong?

Also, raises an interesting question to debate, does anyone think Fran actually has any genuine interest in dating anyone herself? She seems more the (hilariously bad) matchmaker than the kind to go for personal romances. Not to mention her... uh, dedication to Doctor Madaraki.

So I read through the manga today.

This is the funniest shit ever. Finally someone who just GETS it.

I don't know if she's interested, but it would be cool to see her date because another person was interested in her. You know, just Fran trying to be sweet and amiable and social...and also maybe to test the other person's physical/mental reactions. I think it's arguable that Fran does social experiments here and there.

This was posted in the /jam/ general, but I figure it should be posted here as well.

>Also, as some of you may have heard, Franken Fran has come to an end (yes, seems quite abrupt to me as well) in this month's issue of Champion Red.

I'm honestly crying right now.
I just... why...
Someone hold me.

Kigitsu isn't "officially done" with Franken Fran, he's deemed it on Hiatus since he wants to spend more time on his other stories like Phase 20

Well, I guess that's some relief. Still sad to hear it's on hold, but that's better than being flat-out cancelled. At least he's still putting out new material, and Phase 20 is entertaining in its own right.

Bad news, everyone, we've really hit the end.

Also, Kigistu Katsuhisa is a WOMAN?? I'm honestly shocked that I didn't expect that.

Dear /jam/

PLEASE HELP ME FIND A WAY TO CONTACT/SEND FAN-MAIL TO KIGITSU. I have so many feelings about this series, and I feel like I need to send her something to thank her for doing this series.

I thought Kigitsu was a dude?

I mean, it felt like it was written by a dude and I'm usually pretty good at telling.

Did you read the very end message of the last chapter? The translators went out of their way to point out Kigitsu is female.

Her next manga starts in the very next volume right away. I guess she got bored with Fran? I don't think the magazine would want a new manga right away if it actually was cancelled.

Man... I'm almost afraid to read these. So long as there's a chapter I haven't read yet, it's almost like it hasn't really ended.

And whoever >>71173 is, your proffered false hopes have turned to bitter ashes, and I'm mad at you.

>>71511
I don't know how I might be of help, but if there's some way, I will.

About that...

>Note: Apparently, I'm a fucking retard who never bothered to check up his sources because Kigitsu is actually a man (like everyone thought before being told otherwise). I don't know where I initially heard this from and even mangaupdates (though I guess that's not a very reliable database at all) had his gender listed as female. In any case, I've learned my lesson to always check sources first.

According to Hox's latest post, it's called "Hasami-Onna" (Scissors-woman). Unfortunately Hox also said he doesn't currently plan to translate the new series, so it'll fall to another translator to pick up the slack.

Read the last chapter. A little understated for a final chapter, but still quite good, though of course bittersweet.

Now I'm going to go listen to Galgasang for an hour straight and sulk a bit.

>>71536
Indeed. I wonder if it's at all related to the kuchisake-onna legend, or if it's something else entirely.

Alright, yeah, there we go. I was caught aback by the "female" thing primarily because I had SWORN I had seen a photo of Kigitsu at a signing even (wearing a ridiculous brain helmet, even) and he was definitely male. What a weird misconception.

Everyone keeps talking about Scissor-Woman, but Comic Flapper has her for at least two chapters on some series that has the word "Prince" in it? CHOOSE ONE.

Yo, I finally found out how to send fan-mail to Kigitsu, so if anyone else was interested in sending him something, send me an e-mail.

I sent an e-mail to the dude who makes these too fukn FINALLY.

PS Kigitsu is currently working on a shounen school detective manga.

That sounds rad, did the Scissor thing turn out to be rumors?
