SPOILERS
One of the more interesting takes on zombies I've seen in a while. I've seen versions of zombies spawned by parasites before, but the victims remaining aware and trapped within their shambling bodies is a really unsettling concept. Man, I really hope the reporter makes it out okay. D: Also, does it feel to anyone else like this one might continue next chapter? A lot of chapters have rather abrupt ends, but something about this one makes me feel like there should be more.

I'm sure like the female cop, she'll be a regular character. Though really, the poor girl has only herself to blame.

>> No. 58022
>>58016
I hope that's the case. Actually I think the two characters would kind of compliment each other: the cop who wants nothing to do with all this strangeness but who keeps getting pulled back in, and the reporter who keeps plunging into it, even though she should have learned better.

Admittedly her decision to blithely follow Fran was not the wisest, but somehow I just can't fault her. I respect her dedication to being a good reporter (especially since she's trying to report on matters of actual gravity, and not just sifting through some celebrities' garbage), even if she's rather foolhardy.

South Park too, now that I think about it.
"...the first thing you need to do is make sure that you do not just go out and start decapitating zombies left and right. Do you understand? Do not start decapitating zombies left and right!"
"All you have to do is kill the original zombie. The one that started the whole mess. Once you kill the original zombie, all the others zombies will turn back to normal."

However, both Stroker and Hoop and South Park were handling things in a considerably more lighthearted manner, since they're primarily comedies. Franken Fran actually took the horrific potential of the concept and saw it fully realized, and the fact that the victims are actually aware, but unable to help themselves makes it that much more chilling.

The sound effects were indeed delightful. :)
Fran's voice sounded a lot like what I hear in my head when I'm reading her, but Veronica's kind of threw me. I guess because she's a killing machine, and in some ways more street-savvy than Fran, I tend to read her as sounding older than her apparent age, so hearing a more generally age-appropriate voice seemed odd.

Oh, and a preview pic of the volume 6 cover apparently shows that Gavrill has purplish hair and red eyes. I'm okay with this.

Loved that ending. I knew there was no way it was going to end that happily, so I was wondering how things would go sour, and that was a nice little twist. The whole concept of a cannibal cure is a morbidly fascinating notion.

I suppose you could draw parallels between Kaneda's physical metamorphosis with her growth as a person (while ironically ultimately becoming something quite inhuman). Sometimes in Franken Fran, as in real life, weird and terrible things just happen. There's not any inherent sense or moral logic to it, and we're left to simply try and sort it out ourselves. Myself, I don't think too hard about possible moral implications and just laugh at the morbid humor.

"Hold Me Tight" seemed to give a stronger vibe of that sort than "Chrysalis" did.

That got me thinking about it differently.

The guy's infatuation (note: infatuation, not love) with her was based purely on her playing to his ego. In her recovery, he wasn't clinging to "her" as much as the idea of "her."

He spent so much time being obsessed with her one act of flattery that he was blinded to the purposelessness of his endeavor, because she never actually "loved" him either, she felt a debt she owed. I don't know why I didn't see it, but they never really talked about each other/themselves directly aside from "hey remember that one time you cheered me on?"
