>>862>people not using linux.HA HA
>>863talk to me when they make a distro that isn't physically painful to use
>>864http://puppylinux.org/if this is hard for you then you are WAY too accustomed to macs/windows
>>863>>implying one OS can suit everyone's needs
>>866I believe one OS can suit everybody's needs.besides games it's hard for me to think of anyone who wouldn't have all his computer needs answered with it.and I don't see why writing games for Linux has to be any harder then for windows.

Windows 7: A 64 bit add on for a 32 bit extension to a 16 bit user interface for an 8 bit operating system based on a 4 bit architecture from a 2 bit company that can't stand 1 bit of competition.
>>895Mac OS X Snow Leopard: A Unix that costs money
>>870Ideally, I would agree, but practically speaking today's programs and users are so entrenched in Windows that expecting users to make the switch on principle is impractical. Even if it does make more sense in most cases. And with so much money in the consumer market being in gamers, I have a hard time imagining and influential studios would be willing to take time off from racing other studios for compatibility with developments like DX11 to build from scratch compatibility for an OS very, very few people use. The other large market is probably business productivity but even then most people are used to MS Office, though Open Office is advancing that front~You ever hear of Free Geek? They recycle old PCs and since they mostly have old P3s and P4s, they compensate by having faster Unix distros on the machines they build and train people to use them for free too. Good idea for folks who just need a computer for email and word processing but they're not too well known, unfortunately.>>892Man, the PPD from that running F@H would be savory.
>>899On the BOINC WCG forums there's a guy by the name of MrKermit(?) I believe. He has about 4,500 active CPUs and turns out like 28K units a day in protein folding. The guy is a business owner with obsolete systems, or something like that. Now, I've been folding when I can 4 proteins at a time, for about 4 months. I've cranked out about 230 proteins total. He cuts off 80 CPU years of processing a day. The dude is a megamover.
>>901Holy shit. That guy's electrical bills must be insane though.
>>899I agree. and point out that I said it can not that it does.and I can't blame the companies for going with the bigger market
>>901>45,000 active CPUswat
>>911>4,500
While we're on epeen.
7 pots of liquid nitrogen
>>915>epeenI was the guy with the 2.7 GHz processor and 1TB HDHaw haw, your processor sucked
>>917Well that was actually a knee-jerk reaction where I assumed the Q9300 wasn't much worse than the Q9450. Which was wrong. It seems yours is about equal with mine except mine is OC'd too. :awesome:bitch
>>919The joke's on youI like it when girls talk dirty to me
>>920We're going to get along just fine.
