Generally I follow the philosophy that no Pokemon on your team should be a burden to any other Pokemon on your team. Protect is pretty useful for that.
After that you can come up with all kinds of combos.

My Kingdra has Draco Meteor (in addition to Surf, Ice Beam, and Rain Dance) because I already had Ice Beam as a reusable move to use again other Dragon-types so I have Draco Meteor as a big attack to use before switching or getting KO'd.

Anyways, the next Sunday will be all about the movie coming out on the 10th.
They'll even have a battle using the Celebi that will be given out at the movie.
Although I like it more when they battle the kids rather than each other.
