The gameplay is stale. The plot has gone from a vapid albeit interesting means to an end to a copypaste of Ruby/Sapphire. Most fans cannot go two sentences into the defense of Pokemon without mentioning grinding for stats as a good reason to play. And to be honest, I'm not really having fun unless I'm exploring or mining underground.

Pokemon has gotten stale. How do we fix Pokemon?

Quentin Tarentino.

I know, that whole exploring the underground thing was just so great. Isn't pokemon amazing? I don't know where they manage to come up with so many new ideas.

The first thing you need to do if you want to get a game series to change is to get people to stop buying it.

They're not going to do any major overhauls to a game that sells a million copies in its opening weekend.

I liked the survival horror idea

OK OK OK OK OK...

We make the pokemon... into DEMONS.

And the setting will go from normal world to Post Apocalyptic city.

We'll replace the catching aspect of Pokemon with a more visceral diplomacy system where you must convince the Pokemon onto your side.

It'll be all deep and mature and shit.

For some reason I'm now imagining a MegaTen game where your character is a mobster who beats demons into submission and press-gangs them into service via bullets and snide threats.

I've got an idea...

How about....we only capture the FIRST pokemon we see in an area....and if any of our pokemon faint, we consider them "dead" and release them!

Make the gameplay actually competitive by...

- Removing the level cap. In the anime, it is drilled into the audience's head that any pokemon can become a bad ass if you train it "the right way"
Well, the current system is in direct contrary to that. Ledian will never be able to take down a dragonite, and Luxray will always be slow.

Keep the IV/EV system, but remove the caps, therefore, someone CAN make a fast Luxray or a Ledian with a passable attack stat. With people now able to use their favorite pokemon(within reason) the 13 year old stealthrock user will actually have to, you know... PLAY THE GAME.(Although, it would take a long time and you end up with Pokemon on level 132 or something to signify how long you've worked)

Any given Pokemon's stats after about level 60 would pretty much be complete guesswork. Making it so every Pokemon can do everything is stupid anyway, it just destroys the purpose and fun of building a team while making individual species, especially those within the same type, a whole lot less special.

No.12505
>>12488
Yes, this. Playing with my favorites works out fine in single player, but I couldn't realistically go up against my friends and coworkers who don't know what the fuck they're doing but have teams full of pokemon with super high stats and movesets stolen from smogon. You'd think people would eventually get bored of just using and going up against the same shit all the time.

No.12508
>>12505
That's why I hate playing on the standard tier. UU and NU are a buffet of flavor.

No.12523

Like I said, every pokemon can do everything within reason. If you want that faster Luxray, you have to train it to level 164 before it's speed breaks the 300 mark. Each pokemon still has unique attacks and base stats, but you can work hard to break those limitations.

I'm sick of the idiots with names like "decider" or "deathnell" using the same ol stealthrock team. Then saying GG as if they actually thought of anything unique.

No.12530

Yeah, the whole major focus on grinding doesn't help. Again, every Pokemon being able to do everything just dilutes some of the fun of the game by gutting out variety. Turning Pokemon into a giant grindfest where everything's mostly the same except for what type they are (although I'm sure THOSE would have to be rebalanced to be more fair as well) seems to miss a large part of the purpose of Pokemon.

No.12531

That sounds more like a glorified team of Smeargles.

No.12532

Well, something has to be done about the tier system then.

No.12533
>>12532
The only thing anyone can do is refine it and then choose which tiers to play and which ones to ignore. But the tiers will never be truly balanced, Game Freak isn't interested in that, and it's already far too late to suddenly make drastic changes to Pokemon that have been around for a decade or more.

Fucking stealth rock

No.12537

Now THAT would be easier to put a limit on. They'd just have to remove it as an available TM, have it so only a handful of Pokemon (probably Rock and Steel-types) learn it naturally.

No.12545

- Any pokemon that learns stealth rock can't learn spikes or roar.... That would atleast help.

No.12547
Have the game take place in New York.

No.12560
You want a multiplayer environment where all pokemon are equally viable? Go play contests.

Otherwise, just accept that pokemon was designed as a single player game and that competitive battling is that way it is for good reasons.

No.12568
More RPG mystery-ish element stuff. HG/SS is not a ton of fun after Team Rocket goes away... does anything happen in Kanto or...?

No.12587
Let the player join Team Rocket.

No.12589

Ok, I get it...

One thing that would be nice is a departure from the starter formula. Maybe use a questionaire ala the mystery dungeon games that would have you start of as any number of Trainer/Pokemon combinations.

No.12629
- Take the emphasis off of the Pokemon league and Gym battles. Keep them in, but make that whole thing into a side quest.
- I've seen this one a few times already, but I like it enough to steal it: Take most of the HMs and put items in their place. Best example would be replacing flash with a flashlight.
- Put some stats on the trainer himself? Like maybe give a throwing stat, and turn the whole pokeball thing into a bit of a minigame. Early on catching Rattata and Pidgey is easy since neither will be too fast, but as you progress birds can fly higher, run faster, and even burrow themselves into the ground before you can catch them. Then you can add stats to pokeballs: maybe some will be heavier which will give you a stronger throw or a higher catch percentage require higher accuracy.
- and finally, I like the idea of adding in weather conditions. Hell, maybe even add in different seasons and those season will change which pokemon you can catch.

They're actually already doing this for Black and White. With each season change different pokemon and areas can be accessed.
