Well, you start as Anonymous /co/mrade. Other A/co/ do nothing to you at this time, making things easier, but you have the weakest attack and lowest health in the game. By taking on names and trips, you can take their identity and become their sprites. However, in exchange for the better stats and attacks, A/co/s will randomly attack you, more often for trips than for names. But, that'd be hard to code so I won't do it, and doesn't look like it'd fit with Endpiece's game. Eh.

Keep it simple for a start, perhaps Kosh was being a jerk and broke free the power creep, perhaps it was Freehaven again, keep it light hearted and you dont have to worry that much about a story, also, let endpiece be the protagonist to his own game =p , if he gains enough experience code wise later on he can try to base one around more comrades, but for now, "IN THE CONFUSION THE IRATE /co/mrades lash at each other!! samefags everywhere paranoia takes over, and some of them are simply jerks."

You could have a whole level of pym preparing a bunch of bots to help you. Help from pym being, that all of them would be murderous and you would face ultron as a oblivious pym walks around .

Using the speed boost and wall jumps should be more than good enough to dodge most attacks. I say 'should', and ought to add 'hopefully'.

Plus, you'll also get something else you don't get in a Megaman game - 4-way fire.

Alright, so. You (hereby referred to as the "Player") just used up your entire life savings to buy a pair of Magic Spring Shoes. Faggy name aside, they do pretty much what they say on the box - the player can spring off walls, according to the conveniently-located signs. So the player escalates the first level, is ambushed by Silverhawk (a sort of "You must defeat me to advance" fight), beats up Silverhawk, nabs his jetbazooka, and finishes the level. Silverhawk emergency-calls Final Boss Anonex about a silent-but-violent intruder on the premises. Cue the alarms and 8 of the slightly more important /co/mrades are sent out to stop the player. MENU TIME.

Rest of the plot is just Anonex trying to harness the power of nerd rage to activate a giant planet-destroying cannon in the /co/ fortress, making him and the player both look like assholes. Meanwhile the player waltzes on into said fortress and beats up the /co/mrades, taking their powers as well, before finally reaching Anonex and asking "what the hell's with everyone trying to kill me".

Reminds me of an idea an old friend of mine had. He didn't care to much for all the backtracking in Metroid Prime. So his idea for a game would be a bonus level where you enter into a hallway with a shotgun. Walk down it with very dramatic music playing and then just walk through the door at the far end to complete the stage.

Great edit, I love it!

Only problem is, it might not be too small but in fact too big. The picture explains it - for the resolution of the game, I make each sprite small and then double the size to fit with the rest of the game.

Your Silverhawk's a mite too tall. It also needs to fit with the low-number palette of the game - black outlines, 2 tones per colour. If you can arrange that, I'll be more than happy to replace the sprite. Otherwise... well, I'll see what I can do.

If you want to add the animations also, then go ahead.

On second thoughts, I might take a rain check on that "resize" idea. I wouldn't mind having opponents be taller than the player for intimidation purposes. Only real problem with that is possibly resizing Bazookaman's animation in comparison. Or not, I dunno.

As for the two color thing, that will probably not be too big an issue for me. Just juggling some of the shades where they are.

As for the pudgy vs HUEG debate, well, I can understand Torch's take on it... but by the same value, I dun wanna be a midget. So, as I said, I will see about trimming him down to being about the same height as Player X.

In a fit of palette-focused research, I'm trying to stick to a maximum of four colours (including black outline) for the sprites, following the fact that as far as I've checked that's how NES games rolled, and that is how the select screen worked.

Do you think I'm doing the right thing here, or should I go for a higher colour limit? Is there a higher colour limit for the NES?

Not necessarily. You could have it so that the /co/mrades appear when the weapon button is pressed, do their animation, and disappear when the action's finished.

The idea I'm planning on is that /co/lette can't use any attacks in her normal form and she's weak against enemies, but can get around the levels faster and conserve health. Using her transformed mode would make her technically immune to attacks, but the form and weapons still slowly eat at her health.

It wouldn't be too difficult to code, but actually playing it could be some trouble, so I'm brainstorming over it.

Maybe mix them. Pac-man parody. /co/lette helps for.. some reason, and the reward is to summon Golem Body as a ride armor. Like Megaman's alt equipment, from later games. Able to punch false-walls out to get items, or travel over spikes, with the drawback being lack of long jumps or something. Instead of having a weapon bar that depletes from use, it could have an irredeemable health bar per level.

But if the golem 'ride armor' option seems like too much work, just a pac-man parody would be fine. :D

Alright, I've got some good news and bad news.

Good news is, I've got the opportunity to work on this project as an assignment for my art college. Which means I get to work on Space Atlantis, and possibly pass the course for it. Tutor is interested in the idea of a digital media, as long as I've got some prints of the level layout, progress work, etc to show for things as well as the final presentation.

Bad news is, given the imposed deadline (we're talking May, June-ish), the college version (don't worry, there'll be a full version) will be truncated to 4 bosses and the final fight. And... depending on how the talk goes over, there's a good chance we'll be seeing a movie made for the course rather than a straight-up game. Much like "Pirate Baby" or "Kings of Power".
