Although they're not that hard to get right. Just, for the love of god, don't drain the meat. I mean, I'm not saying you should make an effort to put every drop of grease into the bun. Cook enough meat for one sandwich, and don't press or drip the fat out. You're SUPPOSED to feel like you lose a week of your life with every bite. Also, the rolls are important. They should be short french breads, not large hotdug buns.

Cheese and toppings, whatever. Eat what you want. Hot sauce, peppers, onions, it's all personal preference. Cheese is usually provolone or something processed like american/pizza cheese/cheez whiz, but if you want cheddar or something go ahead.

Well I'm in Philly now, but in Boston I guess it's seafood. Probably the most famous are the lobster rolls which are pretty good.
Actually, I go to a family party every year on Cape Cod, and we have a big cookout on the beach. There's a tidepool thing a half mile walk from where we usually are, and all the kids go digging for clams/quahogs in there, they're really easy to find. Then we bring them back (and by this point there's a lot, so it's multiple buckets), and we throw them all in a big pot over the fire and cook them in seawater.
We do the same with corn on the cob.
