I don't know what the deal is with the other thread below this one, but I can't post in it so...

HERE'S A HANDY UP-TO-DATE GRAPH DEPICTING ALL THE IMPORTANT CHARACTERS FOR THIS SCENE.

Shit that's a lot of characters, even more than I thought.
This chapter really does show off why Usopp's best in clutch moments, he always comes through EVENTUALLY. I really don't think Robin has a contract on her at the moment.

For reference.

I'm kind of really disappointed with this chapter, not gonna lie. Usopp was dragged back in the most unheroic and unflattering way imaginable. So much for people saying it was all a trick to become Sogeking. He really did plan on abandoning them all. Ugh.

Also, I'm not sure we need a flashback NOW. I'm not sure we even need a flashback at all. All I know is it better not drag on for any much longer; this arc is so cluttered and bloated already that it would be ridiculous. There's like five or six different story lines already scattered about and none of them are even close to being done. This needs to start winding down soon, cause I'm getting jet lag.
>> No. 33038
I feel like Oda wrote this scene a long time ago and just used it now. Like before he came up with Sogeking.
>> No. 33039
This chapter was fairly bad. This is upsetting.

Kyros and his sob story flashback was unnecessary, it didn't make you care.
>> No. 33040
I liked Kyros's story. I just wish the entire Dressrosa story was done all at once. I mean, instead of getting the post-invasion part, then the invasion part, and now the pre-invasion part. Kinda silly.

Usopp was kinda disappointing though. Everyone knew it what was gonna happen and pretty much how it was gonna happen. Then it happened but it took like 3/4ths of a chapter combining this one and the last one for it to happen.

And next week's a break. Eh.

Anyone else get the feeling that Usopp is a reincarnation of Noland similar to Luffy being one of Gold Roger (which is obviously a theory but a good one nonetheless)?

Noland was always called a liar and a storyteller, but most of Usopp's lies ended up becoming true. I have a feeling that we haven't heard to last of him. I also think that Usopp WILL in fact get a statue next to Noland's.
>> No. 33042
>>33041
Noland wasn't a liar, they just called him that cause no one believed him. And he wasn't a chicken shit like Usopp either.

>>33041
Noland was an honest man who got branded a liar by history. Usopp's a liar who's getting branded an honest man by history. They're almost complete opposites.

I like the contrast. Lets hope this is an actual turning point for Ussop. I mean, I was hoping his training time would be the turning point, and I know we have a character moment with Ussop about cowardice EVERY big fight, but please Oda, this has to be the one.

And Jesus Burgess, this is one crazy ass arc. I forgot all about CP0 and big mom. And here I thought Punk Hazard was crazy balls. Also, Doflamingo's crew is pretty big.

Usopp's turning point was against Mr. 4 and Merry Christmas, fully realized at Water 7. I'm not sure he really needs another.

Whose to say Noland didn't just tell stories of Dwarves and lands in the sky, only to discover that they really existed later in his life?
>> No. 33047
>>33045
No, he's proven that he's a capable member of the team. Remember how he beat Chuu?

A true turning point for Usopp would be when he finally discovers how strong he really is.

A true turning point for Usopp will be when he stops wasting pagespace with his nonsense and keeps everything in the background of other panels where it belongs. He's actually pretty funny when he's goofing off in the background.

holy shit, I can't be the only one who wants 3A to make a franky fig in that military costume right?

He looks fucking incredible.

Maybe Ussop won't have a "turning point" because he's a static character and will always be the coward who pulls through in the clutch, just like how Luffy will always be the happy-go-lucky dumb captain, Zoro the boring sword guy, Sanji the perverted strong guy, Franky the perverted strong guy, Chopper the adorable tsundeer, Robin and Nami the straight women, and Brooke the useless skeleton.
>> No. 33059

Pretty heavy on the generalizations there but Usopp is basically that

I never thought he would really change after his reveal post timeskip
>> No. 33061
>>33058
Brook isn't useless, he's actually pretty fucking strong in every fight he's ever been in. The biggest problem with Brook is that Oda is a one trick pony when it comes to long-term personalities. I don't think he thought Brook through when making him, so now the guy is like a hideous conglomerate of Chopper, Usopp, Sanji and Franky. There's nothing original about him.

Which is a pity, cause I actually find Brook to be cooler in fights than Zoro or Sanji. He has a really neat style that Oda constantly underuses. Much like Robin.

Sad thing is, Brook and Robin are my two favorite Strawhat characters. I hope they'll get to show off their skills again, big time.
>> No. 33067
The problem when it comes to fights is that Robin and Brook aren't characters suited for protracted battles over the course of multiple pages. Neck snapping and iaido are cool, but they're meant to be OHKO styles.
>> No. 33069

Robin vs. Yama (literally her only fight to date)
Brook vs. Zeo
Brook vs. Ryuma

And Zoro is officially the most boring, one-note fighter in the crew.
Your point is moot.
>> No. 33071
>>33069
Robin vs Yama consisted of two moves: Roll him down the hill, snap his neck.
Brook versus Zeo was more talking than fighting. He talked about how he understood his powers better and all, but when it came down to it his only necessary attack was the same arrow notch strike he always does only now with added ice effect.
Brook versus Ryuuma was longer, yes, but mostly because Brook spent that fight jobbing and trying not to get his afro cut off.

I'm not defending Zoro, or any other character, I'm just saying I can see how some fighting styles make for longer battles than others. Usopp and Nami are both characters that should have entire chapters built on their fights since they're all about prep time rather than straight fighting.

That's not really proving that they can't have actual fights, though. Just that they haven't.

Brook has a cane sword and super powers based on death and ice. He should have ample possibilities and combinations to make things really cool; Oda has no excuse here. And Robin's power is boundless on its own. Can you imagine how much cooler she'd be if she started sprouting dozens of guns or whips or ANYTHING to give her an edge? But no, what happens as soon as there's a possibility of a fight? She gets turned into a doll.

Everyone's a little harsh on zoro, he's meant to be the classic japanese swordsman

I give Oda credit because he takes such a popular character type but still gives him some fantastic moves. You gotta love shit like shishi sonson with that little sword twirl

>You gotta love shit like shishi sonson with that little sword twirl

No I do not.
Once you've seen one Zoro move you've seen every single Zoro move.

Its kinda weird that he's meant to be basically a samurai despite not coming from the Not-Japan of the setting.

Whats the point of Wano when things are so Japanese already, katanas and such everywhere.
>> No. 33080
>>33072
He's not saying they have uncool abilities. He's saying that Robin's assassination style and Brook's blisteringly fast cuts make for very short fights, so they don't get to show off how cool they are as much. If anything, they are too effective when they start up.

You... Do know that's not how that works right?
