That's everyone's opinion on Clover, the monster itself is trash but those Parasites were the stuff of perfect nightmares.
If only they'd gone with the Whale, THEN WE'D HAVE A MOTHER FUCKING KAIJU FOR AMERICA.

All ya had to do for the whale was consolidate his three fins into one and he'd have been perfect, plus that black skin texture would have been so much harder to see at night.
The point where I hated Clover was that scene on the collapsing Hotel where everything is exploding so we get a good look at clover as he comes towards the camera and he looks...fucking glued on to the screen, with a body so cartoonish and unintimidating I just fucking laughed.
Cloverfield's mistake was...it doesn't fucking look like anything, certainly nothing intimidating.
Godzilla? Motherfucking Nuclear reactor strapped to a Dinosaur with a little cat thrown in, the Cat part gives us sympathy and GIANT WALKING NUCLEAR DISASTER DINOSAUR PROVIDE INTIMIDATION SURPLUS.
Cloverfield...is uhhh, bull frog gorilla shrimp? And the repeated Godzilla 2000 in so many errors, Yes, Monster big and resilient, but it needs a nice classing threat, Oxygen Destroyer ray, Atomic Breath, sleep pollen.
The idea I had when I thought his was gonna be the awesome whale was something like Ambergris and he'd be spraying it all over the place and then the military shows up and proceeds with the "BLAST IT!" plan, upon which their bullets and rockets ignite the Ambergris which has and exceeding slow burn rate despite being highly inflammable causing a hell fire in the city streets that could last weeks and drives everyone underground where they quickly encounter the parasites from the movie.
That's my two cents on fixing Clover, this big lumbering puking monster Whale staggering through a burning New York hell scape, dropping it's insidious cargo without even meaning too.
This walking deep sea God of rot.
I also wanted it to have a purpose for what it's doing...Clover is, according to the movie, just a wandering baby.
My idea would have it just being sick and looking for help, it's destruction just a by-product of this unfathomable creature never meant to walk in the same world as us.
In summation:
Clover is dildos.
Parasites are fucking rad.
They should have gone with the Whale.
