It might explain why Jeremy Renner also picked up such a big following even though he's rather below average in the looks department IMO.
Besides, Loki was really cliched and riddled with daddy issues. There are lots of characters like Dio Brando and so on from other popular franchises with similar issues, except pulled off way more interestingly or with more depth, yet I hardly see the same level of mad obsession or apologism from fans. If anything, a lot of times their fans even embrace it because it's what makes them so damn entertaining, instead of coming up with ridiculous excuses to brush it off until all that's left is a generic harmless moeshit. Maybe the shallowness of his character makes it that much easier for them to project or something... I dunno, little of that stuff is personally appealing to me in and of itself, so it all kind of baffles me.
