Exactly a month left until GOTYAY comes out, friends, I'd say it's time for some last minute discussion before it arrives.
To start off, some recent trailers.
Resident Evil 6 3rd Trailer HDyoutube thumb

And for anyone who bought Dragon's Dogma, the RE6 Demo code that came with that game is now active. Anyone played it yet? How's it look, etc?
Let's get this discussion started:

>>the only way to learn how to do half the moves is to either read loading screens or trial by fire
>>New co-op side characters are garbage that the game doesn't care about developing one scintilla
>>game has problems registering moves you make against zombies, why they can magically just pop in out of nowhere and the buttons you mash in physically painful quick time events ever
>>enemies have guns because that's what shooters have right?
>>All three story modes play basically the same way but Leon, the one specifically designed to be the most resident evil route, is the worst of them all
>>The plot is literally "Another Umbrella corp appears!" and all juicy details of RE6's "story" are outside of the actual game and in some boring library menu

Christ, I was expecting a bad by-the-numbers game not a fucking comedy of errors.

I have friends who bemoan the lack of bad camera angles and voice acting because that's what they expect Resident Evil to be. Whether it's because it gives off an unintentionally funny B-movie game vibe or something, I don't know. I know some horror games (like House of The Dead: Overkill) have intentionally gone that route.

You mean Overkill's grind-house ascetic? No, even if that is an on rails shooter, SEGA actually put effort into making the game-play functional while they played with 70s stereotypes. There's a difference between making references and being genuinely archaic and cluttered.

Also SEGA actually knew what they wanted Overkill to be and stuck to it. Something Capcom clearly didn't understand when it made RE6 and thought it could be anything and everything.
>> No. 164213
Really, what I want is RE4's action and free/over-the-shoulder camera combined with RE1's puzzles, backtracking, and limited ammo. Smaller corridors are great because they lead to more horror.

Is that so much to ask? Instead it seems to have trended more towards generic TPS, except that it's mutant zombies instead of TURURISTS.

No, you're fighting four eyed zombie terrorists. The game is that tasteless.
>> No. 164244
>>164235
I don't know, the spider theme they had going for this virus seemed pretty cool. And four eyes still beats drooling spaniards and africans on the creative scale.
>> No. 164254
For everything wrong with 6 the enemies are actually a huge step in the right direction, but their use is where it faults, these fucking really cool mutant awesome varied early RE style enemies and we...seldom fight them because we're too busy dealing with bland mook zombie terrorists. WAVES AND WAVES AND WAVES of them.
>> No. 164257

BECAUSE SHOOTERS HAVE TO FIGHT TERRORISTS, BECAUSE THAT THE ONLY ENEMY THEY CAN HAVE. OTHERWISE ITS JUST PSYCHOTIC GUN PORN.
>> No. 164258
>>164257
To be fair, the idea of "zombies as terrorist weapons" is something that's been in Resident Evil since the first game, as that's kind of the reason why they were developing the T-Virus to begin with.

So once they introduced crossbow/chaingun weilding zomboids in 4, zombies with assualt rifles is kind of the logical end result.
>> No. 164263
>>164258
Why not make vampire zombies or wizard zombies? The games also escalated in how god damn bizarre it can twist and mutate the human body into. Why settle on a lot of boring zombie terrorists when you can have zombie giant bugs?

Sounds like he had a hard time justifying an actual argument for the game; his review is entirely based around his enjoyment of it - and as much as he's free to express that opinion - that doesn't mean I'll agree with him about RE6.

Dividing a game into three parts usually means all of them have less content to accommodate for them all being there, so if you wanted one play style - you're going to feel robbed that it had to be shorted so that Call of Chris or Jake Muller's Running Man simulator can be played.
>> No. 164347
Leon's missions for the most part were really fun. Chris's suck massive donkey balls. It wouldnt be so bad if they gave you god damn ammo to actually kill the endlessly respawning assholes they keep throwing at you. The European flashback mission was so unbelievably terrible. I haven't done the miniwesker missions yet but my hopes are low.

>> No. 164444

Because the Resi writers are shitty and felt like they needed to force in some PERSONAL DRAMAZ for him in the new game.

So so stupid..
>> No. 164454
>>164444
You know, 5 seemed like a graceful end point to the story (or at least the story of the original heroes because its doubtful capcom would ever want to give up milking a franchise)
Umbrella's been defeated, then now Wesker's been defeated, Chris rescued Jill and now thier story of vengance between them and thier former STARS commander is complete -story fucking over-
The story being over and thier less than stellar writing abilities of course leads to the aforementioned 'drama' being hamhandedly inserted.
(Does Jill even get a mention in 6? Does she have no contact with her now deranged boozing hobo of a partner? Not even a reference?)
>> No. 164456
>>164454
five was very much a decent end to the series for all the reasons you mentioned. 6 feels like they're doing nothing but trying to play to every single type of resident evil far, relying heavily on nostalgia and just going through the motions to keep things familiar.
While a world wide epidemic was a logical evolution, I don't feel it was handled quite right here.

And for everyone complaining about the story, name a SINGLE Resident Evil game with a good one.
>> No. 164457
>>164456
Yeah but even in a series with b-movie level plots you can grow to like the characters. This leads to fairly taking issue with the direction they are taking certain characters in order to keep the games going.

I'm honestly shocked about Jake in a few different ways. One being that Wesker is actually his father and he's not a clone, the other being that he liked his dad well enough to almost shoot Chris in the face for killing him.
>> No. 164459
>>164458
He calls him a dead-beat at one point and was surprised to learn about him being a huge dick from the Three Ninjas mask guys, so it's likely just a reaction anyone might have on finding out someone killed your parent.
I was glad he wasn't a clone, though, and the character isn't too bad really.

Well organizing a large underground network of spies to retrieve virus samples for your nefarious plans doesn't really leave much time for parenting.
I'm curious to know who he deemed worthy enough to knock-up, especially seeing as it was post-infection Wesker.

Haven't played the game mysel, but I've seen bits and parts of Chris's campaign from watching my roommate play.

Too bad his introduction was 6.
>>164456
Bad for a RE game. Bad from the games that gave us jems such as Master of Unlocking - contrived from a goddamn literal zombie franchise. As awful as anything is in the previous incarnations were, 6 does absolutely nothing to better itself. For the sake of nostalgia it actually even recommits the sins of its fore-bearers just so Capcom can make a quick buck from a not megaman series.

But I heard the co-op is fun is if I can find it on the lib I will give it a borrow.

I can't decide if Simmons mutating into the zombie-equivalent of a Transformer is cool or not. It's pretty fun to watch, but feels out of place given how mundane other C-Virus mutations are by comparison. The terrorists just grow cricket legs or wings. Also, you fight like 5 damn times. He was more a crutch for level design than a boss.

Its Sherry who frankly sucked. Also speaking of which anyone wish they would have killed Ada Wong in this game? She worked for Wesker longer than anyone ever did and as such has probably murdered and hurt many people. Just because we're not shown her past doesn't mean that she's a goodie goodie. If anything given Wesker's nature as a boss I'm sure his missions were very immoral. She only made a hazy change in RE2 due to Leon which is a hell of a bad romance since Leon's love for her is one of the weakest aspects of his character.

But I digress, next to Wesker, Ada is the most evil character in the totem pole that needs to be chopped down.

The viruses ever since Code Veronica have become lame and continue to be uninspired. The best viruses are the ones that royally fucked up organisms like the T Virus and the G Virus. That made them truly look like abominations.

In the end though wouldn't it be hilarious if at the ending of the RE series (bear with me) that eventually a perfect virus is created that makes super humans as Spencer wanted? Then the organization uses other viruses to bio-engineer and create fantasy based monsters like sphinxes, faeries, chimeras, hydras, etc and drops a load of nukes on the planet to bring it back to the medieval era and the landscape of the planet becomes the backdrop of something similar to Kentaru Miura's Berserk?
