ITT: disappointment.Today I learned that by the Pokédex numbers, Gyarados and Rayquaza are both smaller than an anaconda.
most pokemon are tragically disappointing size-wisebest just to ignore the official info when it comes to that
I ignore the stats by basically remembering that half the stuff the pokedex says sounds like it was written by a ten year old kid with no sense of scale. For god's sake, Haunter's technically half a foot taller than Gengar; I chalk that up to being that Haunter's smaller, but he floats higher off the ground than Gengar's full height.
>>10248>Gyarados and Rayquaza are both smaller than an anaconda. When it says "height" for a serpentine Pokemon I don't think that means "body length when stretched out", I think it means "high point on their body when they have their head raised".Even if it did, Gyarados and Rayquaza wouldn't be as long as an anaconda, but they have a greater volume/length ratio as they're much thicker. However, the weights are almost universally too low.
???
That can't be right. When looking at the size comparison thingy in the HG/SS pokédex, Gyarados is much larger than that.
I am taller than both Charizard and Nidoking. Pokedreams: ruined.Anyway, the pokedex apparently interprets "height" as "the distance between the top and bottom of the sprite," making it essentially worthless for comparisons.
>>10256Can't really have much of a volume/length upperhand when they're supposed to be 50-100lbs lighter. If it's supposedly 21 feet at the top of the curve when it strikes one particular pose (which seems like a stupid way to measure anything), that would make it longer overall, and longer plus lighter would make for less girth.>>10257See height/weight.
>>10250I was surprised that ghastly was like four feet tall, I always pictured it the size of a basketball.
>>10262Size in the Pokemon world is always fun.Sometimes I think the 3-D games are truest to the Pokedex, but I swear that Infernape is way too tall in PBR.
>>10263Although I haven't examined that one thoroughly yet, it does seem like they translated his given height into how tall he stands in his standard slouched position. He seems really big when he stands completely upright.
>>10260Like I said, the weights are horribly inaccurate.Wailord and Steelix both weigh 400kg or less, despite being at least 14.5 meters long and 9.2 meters long and having an iron body (1 cubic meter of iron weights about 7874kg) respectively.
>>10279You can't argue that "by the pokedex" it's girthier if you're just going to throw one of the two numbers out. That just means you're inventing your own number in your head to fill that slot. I know the Pokedex is ridiculous, that's why I said "by the Pokédex numbers" in the first post.
>>10281But by the Pokedex numbers, they would be larger (in volume), but have a density lower than freaking styrofoam because the masses are so ridiculous low for things of those size.
I refuse to acknowledge official scale because it's stupid. Motherfuckers, Torterra is, at least in my mind, a pokemon that evolved to be a fucking MOUNTAIN. It is a mountain that moves and grows shit on is back because of how big it is. It is Termina Island from Zelda. That is not a bonsai tree, that is a full grown fucking OAK. That flora be a goddman professor up in this shit. And as far as Rayquaza goes, I set his scale by his appearance in Smash Bros Brawl.
>>However, the weights are almost universally too low.Except in cases like Munchlax where they're comically high...
Fuck you, Pokedex, Torkoal is definitely bigger than a bread box.
>>10285>Munchlax: .6 m, 105 kgOh, yeah, I forgot there's cases where they do the opposite. Dugtrio is another bad case: somehow three 20 cm, 800 gram creatures coming together forms one 70 cm, 33kg creature. I think someone calculated that Dugtrio must be denser than gold.Really, it's more that they'll have enormous huge variance in size, but not in weight because they don't want to add to many digits. Generally anything bigger than 4 feet, especially if it's made of some heavy material, will be way too light while some things that evolve will have their weight increase more than their height warrants.
>>10285Well with Munchlax it's SUPPOSED to be comically high. It's Munchlax.
>>10289munch munch.
How big is Dialga supposed to be? Because on the pokedex scale, the trainer is, like, one pixel next to it. As awesome as that would be, it kinda terrifies me to think I have one of those things contained in a baseball-sized pokeball.
>Zorua's height is given as 0.7m
>>10414>Limited edition 0.7m high Zorua Plush is shown on Pokémon Sunday.IT'S HUGE.
>>10260>>10248Coaelasquid, are you seriously citing Pokedex entries as being accurate? There are things in Pokedex entries about Pokemon that are scientifically impossible.
>>10490>Pokemon >scientifically impossible
>>10490I'm saying that they're the canon the game has presented us with. Also, >>10491
>>10549But>>10257Is also canon.
>>10563So like >>10283 says, they have the density of styrofoam. It's still disappointing knowing that like... some wrestlers have comparable weight to this dragon god creature.
>>10569That chin.It will be the end of us all.
