So yeah, Star Wars thread.
Just the movies or?...
>>13523Pretty much, although the television series and music is fair game as well I suppose.

>>13599New Hope and Return of the Jedi are on par for me. Other than that, most would agree.
>>13599Where does Planet of the Ewoks and the Christmas special fit in?
>>13609They fit quite nicely in the bin
>>13610I actually would rather watch the christmas special then Episode I.
http://tattuinardoelasaga.wordpress.com/2010/03/01/tattuinardoela-saga-if-star-wars-were-an-icelandic-saga/Quite well done, if I do say so myself.
I believe New Hope and Empire Strikes Back are on par. Then again, I really love origin stories.
Battle of Coruscant> Battle of Hoth > Battle of Endor > Battle of Yavin > Battle of Naboo
>>13630>Battle Of Coruscant > Battle Of Hoth>Battle Of Endor > Battle Of Yavin aka the MOTHAFUCKIN' DEATH STAR TRENCH RUN.
>>13630i have a soft spot for the battle of Geonosis.
>>13630oh wait, Coruscant is the one at the end of clone wars/ start of ep3 right?Battle of Coruscant > Battle of Hoth > Battle of Geonosis > Battle of Yavin > Battle of Endor >Battle of Naboofixed that for you
>>13631Anakin pilots half a flaming battleship through the atmosphere and crash lands safely. > Giant, four legged, walking tanks walking across snow.Admiral Ackbar yells its a trap and a super star destroyer crashes into a fully functional death star. > Red leader reporting in, Luke turns off the targeting computer coz Ben said so and wins.
>>13640Ah yes, i knew i was missing the battle from II, i just couldn't remember what it was.Battle of Coruscant > Battle of Hoth > Battle of Geonosis > Battle of Endor > Battle of Yavin > Battle of Naboo
>>13641hmmm, good point. plust there was the whole ground war that Yavin lacked.i concede that now your list needs no fixing
>>13644WTF?! Oh wait, im not on 4chan anymore.
>>13645then again maybe the battle of naboo should rank higher just because it was a Gungan massacre>>13631when you think about it, the trench run was fighters Vs fighters. the battle over Endor was fleet Vs fleer
>>13646Perhaps you should judge it not by the number of participants but the quality of the battle, tension, impact, originality, stuff like that.
>>13651I judge the battle by coolness, epicness and awesomeness. I'm not watching starship trying to blow the shit out of each other because its romantic.
>>13639I hated that, mostly because of the stupid amount of Hollywood tactics involved. Battles were better in the originals, when they used tactics instead of heroics.
>>13654>coolness, epicness and awesomenessYes, that's what I meant. I don't think it has much to do with the number of starships involved.
>>13656fleet vs fleet is more epic and awesome than fighter vs fighter. Also battle of yavin mostly involved fighters traveling in a straight line waiting for the right moment to press the button.Battle of endor was actually flying INTO the death star very quickly while dodging stuff.
>>13673lol'd
>>13641I shake my head at thee. Have you no appreciation of pacing, scale, or result?
>>13769By pacing you mean brrrrm-kachunk brrrm-kachunk?By scale do you mean the sheer scale of grevious' battleship over the city planet of coruscant?By result do you mean Darth Vader wins? coz that happened both times
>>13780By pacing, I mean the difference between the two in their execution. The Battle Of Coruscant is very little more than a constant stream of BOOM-BLAM-PEW, going from shooting and dodging outside the ship to lightsaberan and dodging inside the ship to finally landing and not really dodging anything, whereas the Battle Of Hoth is an expanded efort by the entire rebel force to evacuate, always moving from the desperate attempts to fight the advances rebel forces (i.e., Luke's side) to that of the rebels trying like hell to get out (Leia, Han, etc.). By scale, I mean opponent to opponent. A fighter is evasive enough to work its way around a destroyer during battle, if the pilot is skilled enough. Mix in a large force of fighters all working together to distract the enemy's fighters and get Obi/Anakin inside, and it just doesn't seem so difficult, especially considering the the two fighters aiming to get inside were being piloted by Jedi Knights. The Hoth battle on the other hand, were giant, heavily armored monstrosities that pretty much blew up things within a large radius of where they shot vs. a smattering of poorly equipped ground troops and some frail ships whose blasts couldn't even dent the armor of said attackers, making the entire battle hopeless until Luke figured "Guys, let's try the harpoon cables" as a last-ditch effort. Or, in the Yavin/Endor case, out-dodging an entire surface of turrets and fighters as opposed to just flying through the inside where the rebels jsut have to outrun a few measly TIEs).By result, I mean "Yes! We destroyed the Death Star against all odds, saving the galaxy from its tyrannical power!" vs. "Oh, awesome. We killed the Death Star. Again. It was only half operational this time, though."tl;dr - The battles in the prequels are to premature ejaculation, what the battles in the OT are to making her orgasm all night.
>>13786In retrospect, perhaps I worded that last bit wrong, since the Battle of Endor is indeed in the OT.I still stand by my points, though.
>>13786>>13790You make some good points BUT;The battle of coruscant is still the superior battle because so much is happening. It's a pivotal point in the star wars universe. Firstly its clearly a last ditch effort by the separatists to force favorable terms on the republic, secondly its the moment where Anakin kills the emperors apprentice thus passing the point of no return on his path to the dark side. And thirdly because its the point at shich the republic goes from fighting a war to hunting the remnants of the enemy.Thats why it superior story wise. Why it superior cinematically ive already explained. Hundred of starships blasting the shit out of each other in orbit over a city planet, followed by anakin piloting half a flaming starship through atmosphere to land safely with the emperor/chancellor in tow. While im not a fan of the PT generally, that is one of my favorite scenes in all six movies.
Take that you little fucks.
>>13800You make some good points there, yourself.I don't personally agree with you, but I can see where you're coming from. >>13803What is this from?
>>13807Star Wars Tales #14The ex-stormtrooper telling the tale is immediately corrected by a brash young lad, who points out that the debris that didn't immediately dissolve in the atmosphere was shot down by Alliance forces.
>>13837Wedge and company doing the actual work while the others party. Wedge is the most awesome dude anywhere in Star Wars
The Thrawn trilogy is still awnsome!
>>13838HIGH FIVE.
>>13846Only guy made progressively more awesome by Expanded Universe.
>>13848Not true. Lots of people were made progressively cooler. They just sucked to start with (I.E. Boba Fett).
>>13849Yea that is true but most of them were part of EU to start with. Han really needs to be more Han and I'll get a kick to see the strife that might come from their daughter running off to imperial space with her husband. Well more hearing it ( the VA they have doing the books right now is quite good and the SFX they have been using really add to the stuff)
>>13849>They just sucked to start with (I.E. Boba Fett)
>>13852You cannot tell me that based on his performance in RoTJ Boba Fett does not suck. Also, if you want to include the prequels, that means that every one of these guys>>13673is based on Boba Fett.
Here a fun reviewhttp://www.blip.tv/file/2834176/
>>13890 Part 2 and 3http://www.blip.tv/file/2834487http://www.blip.tv/file/2840826
>>13848Incorrect
>>13864What was wrong with either of his performances in Empire or Return? Also the EU pretty much makes him out to be one of the most bad-ass characters in the entire Star Wars mythos. 'Fucker crawled out of the gahdamned Sarlaac without any weapons, man (if memory serves correct). Also, I prefer to disregard the prequels when considering Fett, since Lucas's backstory for the character is one of the more personally enraging points of the PT for me.
>>13944I liked his back story before all that mucking about with the Prequels...Anakin was soo much more awesome in the back story before them. If you can find the old mid '90s character guide its a sight better read than the prequels could ever be.
>>13948in short read that book and get better backstory for both Fett and Anakin
>>13944>>What was wrong with either of his performances in Empire or Return? Most notable achievement, other then actually finding Han (and calling the empire so they could capture him) was getting defeated by a blind Han Solo, crashing into Jabba's Sail Barge and falling into the sarlaac. >>Also the EU pretty much makes him out to be one of the most bad-ass characters in the entire Star Wars mythos. 'Fucker crawled out of the gahdamned Sarlaac without any weapons, man (if memory serves correct) That's kinda my point. Boba Fett in the movies was just kind of a not-very impressive goon, slightly above a faceless stormtrooper. The EU gradually made him into king bad-ass.
>>13952True, in the movies, he doesn't really do much of anything per se, but I always felt that that was one of his stronger points. He didn't have to make a big scene. Plus, he never gave the impression that he was afraid of Vader, like the vast majority of characters in the series. Maybe I just have a biased opinion towards Fett because he as always one of my favorites since childhood. I can definitely see where you're going with the whole 'Blind Han' thing, though. That is a pretty lame 'end' for the character.
>>13959To be fair, there are very few Star Wars characters, named or not, who die honorably or with any sort of dignity. I mean you get Yoda, Vader and maybe Obi-Wan, but that's about it.Mace Windu got pushed out of a window, Palpatine was tossed down a pit and exploded, Boba Fett was knocked into a giant, gaping, alien maw by a blind spacer with a pole. And those are just a couple characters. Let's not even go into all the stupid ways Stormtroopers died.
>>13986Chewbacca telling a moon to go fuck itself at it crushed him is something (though still totally fucking unnecessary) "he's like the family dog" NO HE WASN'T AND I STILL WANNA KICK IN YOUR HEAD FOR THAT DECISION LUCAS!Also killing off Anakin Solo because he felt people would get confused with two characters with the same first name (even though they never occupy the same space at any time)
>>13986I'd say Qui-Gon died honorably enough, in battle defending Amidala and the gang.
>>13992Plus this wasn't Qui-Gon's first fight in the mvoies...and Darth Maul didn't accidentally kill him.
>>13988THIS AIN'T EU NIGGA. IF I WAS TALKING EU, I WOULD BRING UP FUCKING EU. SHIT.
May the 4th be with you.
>>14035I don't get it, why is May 4th being considered Star Wars Day?Wouldn't it make more sense to have it on May 25th (i.e., the day the original movie was released)?
>>14084Say "May the 4th be with you" out loud.If that doesn't work try saying it five times fast.
>>14084Nah May 25th is Towel Day
>>14088I get it, I'm just not sure why that's more relevant than the anniversary of the movie, and thusly the whole series.
>>14093Because it sounds cooler.
Thread needs more Wedge Antilles.
>>14100I would by Sideshow Wedge in flight suit without question
A Star Wars thread on an image board, and almost no shitstorms to be found. Huh.
Return of the Jedi fucking sucked. And The Empire Strikes Back had a terrible ending that resolved nothing.
>>14120
>>14119 Now see what you did. You jinxed it! >>14120
>>14100I always imagined the x-wing pilots returning from a mission, and heading to the local cantina. Here's Wedge, the salty, senior pilot with years of experience. He saunters in after the younger pilots have already sat down with their drinks. Too jaded to care, and not wanting to sit with the idealistic newer pilots (he hates the way they go on and on about how they'd go about attacking the death star), he finds a seat at the end of the bar. Of course, the women can't help but notice the mysterious yet manly figure in the corner, with the scorched helmet bearing the scars of hundreds of space battles (the other pilots all have shiny new helmets). Several women approach Wedge, but he blows them off. Of course, this just makes them want him even more.Bottom line: Wedge never sleeps alone. NEVER.
>>14120I will concede that Return Of The Jedi is a relatively weak film, but it surely does not 'suck'.And if you say one more bad thing about Empire, I swear to you that I will hire bears to devour your intestines while you sleep. That is all.
>>14134Ha yeah right. I bet Wedge is entirely used to people saying "Who" when he says he's Wedge Antilles. And that is why Wedge is awesome.
>>14176Jealousy will get you nowhere, my friend.(Actually, it leads to hatred and fear and the dark side, but you don't want none of that)
Form the alt. past comes!
Who else is watchan Empire Strikes Back today?
>>15128http://articles.latimes.com/2010/may/21/entertainment/la-et-b-list-20100521/4he's dong a film adaptation of The Black Pearl comic. Shame the article leaves out most of HIS DECADES OF VOICE WORK. Star Wars blah blah Luke Skywalker....blah blah..I prefer to think of him as the Clown Prince of Crime for the DCAU. >"They always give these villainous parts to my friend Malcolm McDowell," Hamill said, as he discussed several development projects on his slate that could start a new chapter for him, including a role as a creepy neighbor in a thriller called "Depravity." "I love Malcolm, but he gets all these sinister characters. I want to get cast as the bad guy." Still makes me kinda angry over their ignorance here.
>>15178Yeah, they really marginalize his voice acting career there, though it isn't surprising seeing as that's how the film industry is...
Oh Star Wars Weekends...
>>15203Mighty Ducks would be the perfect fit to be Mandalorians >>15198 Yea its the whole Different Union thing probably. Since he's not a "Actor Actor" And does Mostly either VA work or Stage he's basically on enemy territory.
The Dancing with the Star Wars Stars stuff at Star Wars Weekends never cease to amuse me.
>>15223
>>15223>>15253THE. BEST.
Oh lol
>>15253>>15339I can't decide.
Got more Darth Jackson in here.
>Actually, there was going to be a tie-in novel that would investigate the origin of the human species and how literal the "long time ago" is; Robert J. Sawyer's Alien Exodus would basically be one giant George Lucas homage crossover fic. Basically the humans originate from a dystopian future Earth (the Earth depicted in Lucas' THX-1138) and escaped the solar system in a colony ship that somehow got sucked into a wormhole that sent them into the past in a galaxy far away. Along the way we find out the protagonist, Luke Skywalker's ancestor, is the descendant of the kid in American Graffiti, that Willow took place in the prehistoric past of the planet Corellia, etc. . The unpublished manuscript of this book is of interest to Star Wars EU fans mainly in how hard it contradicts what's been established as canon since then.
>>15650As far as I know there isn't anything written as to what happened before the founding of the old republic after they thumped the Hutts and united the people.
>>15653Funny you should say that...http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Pre-Republic_era
>>15655Right we got bits and pieces of things and species and their empires and the Jedi Order. Too bad most the tech from then has been blown all to hell Centerpoint station is gone and the Maw instillation is kaput as well. I was hoping to revisit the Maw installation as a plot point at some junction ( to find out if the Lake they saw was actually some embodiment of the force some type of Limbo or something or maybe something like Hades and if a person could actually be taken back from that place and what effect it would have) Course now I'm just talking about the most recent book series which for the most part has been a better read than the others (cept the damn Twilightesque romance going on with the Jaina Solo..guugh)
>>15659We should see a push for more non-Jedi and historical Star Wars stories. Most of this stuff is pretty cool.
If I ever had to have a lightsaber duel with Darth Vader, I'd act all scared and start cowering and be like "I feel the good in you, Darth!", and then when he struts over (all "haters gon' hate" style), thinking he's got me beat, I'd suddenly use the force to press all the buttons on his chest, and then when he's all gasping for air and his robot hand starts flapping around like jazz-hands because his suit's gone all haywire, I'd just leap up and chop his arms and legs off with my lightsaber and be all "face, bitch!" and kick him into the garbage chute.Bam.Also, when the emperor (final boss) gets ready to throw down with me, I'll let him blast me with lightning bolts and writhe around on the ground like I'm in agony, and then suddenly stop, stand up, and drop my robe, showing him that I've got a suit made out of tinfoil on underneath it. He'd get super pissed and throw more lightning at me, but I'd just stand there yawning and playing my DS until he wore himself out. Then I'd shank him with a sharpened toothbrush.
>>15661The funniest thing is, this is still better written than that Yuuzhan Vong shit.
I was watching Spike TV and wouldn't you know, they made a Star Wars Gangsta Rap 2! (or 3, if you count that unofficial one)http://www.atom.com/funny_videos/sw_gangsta_rap_chronicles/
>>15660MORE WEDGE!!!!! AND LANDO!!!! I read the shit out of the Lando trilogy they put out a loooong time ago. OH it should have their kids doing all kinds of stuff OH and more adventures in the Corporate Sector..>>15663 GAH! Don't remind me "We'll kill off main characters to so we are serious and this is edgy" I really hate that new mentality of theirs. Also the whole Vong conflict took....ABOUT FOUR TIMES AS LONG AS THE WHOLE MAIN GALACTIC WAR ITSELF. Hey I know you guys were trying to pull some "its deep" bullshit having these kids and such grow up during a major conflict but so 20 years for one storyline? I blame the prequels and Lucas for most the shit that went on with that series "He's like the family dog" "We've got to kill him off since people that read the books and see the movies would get confused over which is which" endless list of bullshit done in the name of those f'ing prequels.
I was wondering how this bitch was significant to the overall plot. It turns out not at all.
>>16008In a galaxy where everyone is the most important person alive, is the unimportant one important?
To me truly aside from the odd novel here and there "Ghosts of Tatooine" "Millenium Falcon" The Star Wars EU ended back in 2000 when they turned it into a serial shit fest
Daft Punk and Snoop Dog visit the Cantina
amirite?
>>16224
I recently rewatched all 6 movies and must simply say this:The original trilogy I like. The prequel trilogy I like PARTS of.
>>16388The only thing I enjoyed from the prequels was this awesome sumbitch, and even then he's better in the cartoons than in RotS.
>>16390Yeah, it was really cool when Ahsoka tried to fight him by herself!
>>16388I remember the last time I rewatched episode I. At first I was all "Hey this is quite good actually, maybe I should give these another chance". Then Jar-jar opened his mouth and shit went downhill faster than you could say "Fuck you, George Lucas!".I think the prequels biggest problem was letting drama take to much place. The originals was space action with small pieces of drama in between. The prequels were drama in a space action setting. Also, Hollywood tactics. Fuck Hollywood tactics.
I'm just going to say it:Jar Jar has never annoyed me. Not when I first watched it, and not on any subsequent viewings. Nor has Jake Lloyd as Anakin annoyed me. In fact, I found him surprisingly tolerable for a small child in a movie (or in existence).
>>16395>AhsokaThat's the girl from the computer-animated series that looks like Shaak-Ti right? I haven't started watching that one yet. Also I do not understand how your robot magazine is related.
>>16405How does it feel to have no soul?I guess it doesn't feel like anything, since you obviously have no emotions, either.I would rather listen to the dying screams of 10,000 innocent children being fed feet first into a giant woodchipper than hear one syllable come out of jar-jar's mouth.
>>16414MY BREASTS. MEGASSA SQUEEZE DEM.
>>16414You sound fairly mad.
>>16416I JUST GOT THAT OUT OF MY HEAD FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK
>>16414I am also not bothered by Midiclorians or the politics. The romance IS pretty shitty though.
>>16421Explain to me why the rest of the world hates Midichlorians. I dislike them because it used to be like anyone with the motivation and desire to tap into the Force and use its power could do it with enough strength and training and patience, but then it's like "lol nope, it's something you're born with". I thought I was the only one.
>>16423That's why they hate it, and they call breeding and such into question.Personally, I always thought it just meant that the midiclorians would indicate how strong you are in the Force, and they multiply based on your potential and mastery, rather than being the source of the Force. But it's been awhile since I've seen the movie, so I could be mistaken.
>>16426In the movies it was implied that the amount of midichlorians a person is born with determines how well they can use the Force.
>>16421 I can watch these movies to some extent....and then, yeah, the romance starts again.
>>16418I was fairly mad (actually, superangrypissedfury) at lucas when I saw jar jar. But I'm just kidding about the whole "no soul-no emotions" thing. As I watched Episode 3, I felt like I was flipping back and forth between Anaconda and Falcons Crest. The shitty CGI and the horrific "love" story just killed me.I think it was Ebert who said anakin and padame "couldn't have had less chemistry if they were in separate movies".
>>16430Trufax: if your DVD player does the "skip scene" thing, you can literally skip every other scene of RotS and get a watchable movie. Action, skip romance, action, skip politics, action, skip drama, etc.
>>16432Anakin was bad acting, but Padme wasn't even a character. They could have replaced her with one of those giant SCIENCE cylinders full of liquid and just had the twins grown from samples of Anakin's DNA and brought to life by the power of the Dark Side, and the movie wouldn't have suffered for it. Shit I think that would actually be kind of awesome.
>>16432As I recall, Ebert also kind of liked 1 and 3, despite the terrible romance.
RISE
>>17052Nice.
Am I the only one who enjoyed the The New Jedi Order? And how did the Vong war take longer than the Galactic Civil War? Shit started more or less at the end of Ep III, and continued on for years after Return of the Jedi! Hell, if you count the Second Imperium that shit was going on forever!
>>17108I don't know, does the GCW start when the Empire is formed and end when the Imperial Remnant becomes friendly to the New Republic? Because that's 38 years. I believe the YV invasion took around four.Bunker, u a busta
Okay, major tl;dr coming up here:Chewie and Anakin Solo's deaths were unnecessary, I agree, but I liked having an enemy who wasn't the Sith, Empire, or some two-bit crime lord like Xizor or Jabba. The theory of "the emperor wasn't just building those superweapons to crush the Rebels or compensate for a small penis, but also to prepare for the Vong invasion" added a bit of depth things, as did the discussion of whether the Dark Side was evil in and of itself, or if intentions and usage determined the morality of the Force. The Vong also make an interesting commentary on modern American fears: they're religious zealots (and I think they even used the word "infidel" a few times, in case the slower readers didn't catch on), they have a caste-based society, they worship pain, ugliness, and death rather than fearing them (especially poignant, given the softness and hedonistic inclinations of the modern West). They abhor technology, which not only sets them apart from most of Galactic civilization, but from us as well. And, to top it all off, they're non-existent in the Force. Not light-side, dark-side, or grey, just "not there". A Jedi can see them, hear them, touch them, smell them, but to the Force, which they're told is the true reality, which they rely upon as a source of wisdom, protection, and strength, it's as if they're not there. Such can be seen as a metaphor for our modern ideological confrontations with ideas and realities incomprehensible and completely novel to our traditional modes of thinking. The shock of the Jedi encountering beings outside the Force, after being told that the Force was present in all beings, and "binds the Galaxy together" and all that, is akin to the crises of faith we've been suffering since the Enlightenment: the sun doesn't revolve around the earth, we revolve around it; the earth is more than 6, 10, or even 100 thousand years old, was not created in the course of 7 24-hour days, and all the continents were never completely submerged beneath the waters of Noah's flood. Look at the debate over evolution, or gays, or abortion, or Islam, and tell me that we as a species are not driven to (and some individuals, over) the brink of madness by these existential crises!Jacen, in his quest for a true and objective understanding of the Force, represents mankind, our attempts to reconcile theology with astronomy, biology, geology, and physics, and the quest of the individual for a true understanding and connection to the Almighty. Unlike us in the real world, he never doubts that the Force exists because he can actually communicate with it and witness it in action on a daily basis; there would be few atheists if someone could say, "In the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit..." and then make a rock levitate or shoot lightning of their fingers. But, if God was like the Force, and never interracted with his followers, there would still be disagreement over proper theology, liturgy, and morality, just as there is, in a sense, in the New Jedi Order series. Beneath the surface of what seems like commercial literature of an established science fiction/fantasy franchise lurks real depth if you're willing to explore it.
>>17110 I just got mussed up because I didn't think the Jedi Twins were even in their 20s when the Vong War Started and when the Legacy Stuff The twins where in their forties and that just seems off. I think I got the numbers confused since it was about 20 odd books in the Vong series still way too many books for a saga especially if the timeline for the war was a lot narrower than I thought. Miscalculation on my part using ages that I thought were right.

You mean the Doom clone with barely any story whatsoever?
>>17207Was that supposed to be funny?
>>17214It's not a joke. Dark Forces is a Doom clone and barely has a story. That is a fact. It certainly doesn't compare to KOTOR games or Outcast. Hell, even Darkforces 2 with its hilarious FMVs had more story.
>>17220O.I thoughtI thought you were calling Darth Vader a clone of Dr. Doom. With no story....I'm going back to bed now.
>>17197fuck the Yuuzhan Vong saga. That was just a cesspool of misery, bullshit, and cleaning house because Lucas said so.That said, I don't have a problem with the Yuuzhan Vong themselves.
>>17230If there's one thing Lucas has done to the SW series, it's been nothing but 'cleaning house' to him.
So, I've come to the conclusion that Watto is the only good character in the prequels. Y/N?
>>17245What about Ki-Adi-Mundi?
>>17245Nah, we had Qui-gon, Windu, Dooku (Fuck yeah evil space brits), Jango...Y'know, the only folks in the prequels I really had a problem with was Anakin and Jar-jar. Which is a shame since Anakin is the main character.
>>17253>Qui-gonReally?
>>17254Yes, really. What's wrong with him?

>>17258HYUCK HYUCK HYUCK HYUCK HYUCK YOU A FUNNY GUY, GUY
>>17260That's not an answer.
>>17255Just that he felt rather...tacked-on. I mean really, everyone who went into Episode I with knowledge of the OT (Original Trilogy) had it in their heads that Yoda was Obi-Wan's master. And then this Qui-Gon jerk comes in out of nowhere. Lucas could have been handled him better: he could have made it clearer that Yoda was Obi-Wan's real master, or that Yoda trained all the younglings (ugh, hate that word) and that Qui-Gon was kinda "out-there" in his beliefs, and sort of a dissident, if not outright heretic. Neeson is a good actor, as are Portman and Lee, but between Lucas' poor directing and inability to write dialogue, we hardly got what he was about before he died. Between that, destroying the fans' preconception that Obi-Wan was apprenticed to Yoda, and dying in the movie he was introduced in, it's easy to hate Jinn. Oh, and then, bang, almost as an afterthought, after being gone for all of the second movie and most of the third, Yoda mentions meeting his ghost, but we don't see it!Fuck it, I'm off on my entire PT (Prequel Trilogy) rant:-Midichlorians: Lucas could have made them controversial within the SW universe. He could have had the Jedi argue whether high levels of midichlorians confer Force sensitivity, or if they are the result of Force sensitivity. Can their numbers increase or decrease with age, health, training? What about non-carbon-based organisms? Do they have them, or analogous organelles? Is the Force a parasite? Lucas could have used the Jedi obsession with them in the PT to demonstrate how far they had strayed from the truth: rather than focusing on the transcendent nature of the Force, they'd become obsessed with measuring microorganism levels in order to set "power levels". Whether or not Lucas originally intended for midichlorians to be part of things or came up with them later, most fans seem to be in agreement that they're a bad idea: virtually no EU works make reference to them, and even the later prequel movies hardly mention them.
>>17264Yes it is. Simply not actively being annoying does not make a good character.
Don't mind me, just being the only good thing to come from the prequel trilogy before being killed by a shitty plot device.
>>17282At least he was badass in the Tartakovsky cartoon.Fuckin' Lucas.
>>17284Yes, clearly it was Lucas' fault that Tartakovsky had Mace Windu crush his fucking lungs before Episode 3.
>>17286I assume so, yes. What, you think Tartakovsky got to do whatever the fuck he wanted and Lucas HAD to follow his shit? Excuse me while I make a much of "derp derp derp" noises.
>>17287No, but I very much fucking doubt Lucas would care about that detail.
>>17286Windu crushed Grievous lungs as a way to reconcile the two characterizations. Clone Wars started very early in the production process of Episode III and they had little to work with for new characters other than designs. Later, when the second volume of Clone Wars was being produced, Episode III was well under way and the folks at LucasFilm's licensing offices realized that they had conflicting versions of the character going; Tartakovsky's and Lucas's. They came up with the lung crush. It was neither Tartakovsky or Lucas. In all likelihood, it was Leland Chee whose job it is to keep the licensed continuity in order.
>>17290The only reason it conflicts in the first place is because Lucas has no brain-mouth filter. He just walks in and says "Hey guys I have a cough let's make the new guy cough" and it is.
>>17291Also I don't think the prequels got the same run by process as the first three got. The Original Movie Drafts read like Lucas with the over complicated ill described plotting and zany aliens like the prequels but unlike the Prequels the Originals got run by a few actual writers and such that tamped down most of his stuff before it could get into the final bit. I mean really Han and Chewie being aliens and if I remember Han was the slave to the wookie. and that is not counting the third of the Skywalker/Starkiller children.
I enjoy all 6 films (though I do enjoy the prequels less).Having said that, the Expanded Universe has material that is much better than the originals, and material that is much worse than the prequels.
Prince Xizor pimpin up ur Star Wars thread.
the greatest moment in filmmaking history.boredom, potential, hope, crushing loneliness and longing for the future...
>>17312>the greatest moment in filmmaking history>Star WarsCool nostalgia man.
>>17318What nostalgia? That's straight-up still one of the greatest scenes in cinema. Haunting soundtrack, a haunting shot (DEM SUNS) it's just...really good.Course, it's only once scene so I'm not expecting Oscar material for the rest but STILL!
>248x400Damn you, Dorman.
>>17304I gotta admit...I fapped to the seduction scene in this when I first read it. Leia in her gold bikini to further sex things up.
>>17327Any idea where it can be once again read? /rs/ gives me nothing.
>>17367demonoid is the most reliable for me when dealing with comics.
>>17327lucky she didn't get too wet in that compactor or the rating would have gone up considerably
>>17390>get too wet tee heeMore nudity incoming.
>>17427Anyone else feel really bad for Oola as a kid? I wonder how much fixfic there is of her not dying/being resurected...
>>17432Typical reaction:>"Yaaay! Green alien tits!" :D>moments later>"Noooo! Green alien tits!" D:
>>17439Fetish few and ;__; fuel all in one character! And then there's that Shabby Blue /34/ of her...and sweet weeping space Jesus if that isn't nightmare fuel!

I never really thought Oola was all that hot. Although I did feel bad that she was eaten alive.
Delta Squad up in this bitch.
>>18502Oh my goodness this is exciting.
http://www.avclub.com/articles/gary-kurtz-outlines-original-darker-ewokless-endin,44162/?utm_medium=RSS&utm_campaign=feeds&utm_source=avclub_rss_daily'I thought we all knew this already?
>>18520I didn't. all I knew originally was it was supposed to take place on Kashyyk instead of Endor.
Star Wars on Blu-ray in 2011. Announced today at Celebration V.http://www.starwars.com/themovies/saga/mebd/bluray/index.html
>>18520...That sounds like SHIT.
>>18522It's being released by chiefly by Lucasarts, as opposed to Twentieth Century Fox. Have fun with your only-special-editions-no-theatrical-editions-lolololol.
http://tv.ign.com/articles/111/1112465p1.htmlHahahaha oh wow...
>>18521Yea since they had all those friggen Wookie suits from "The Special" they might as well have. But yea it was actual writers that actually helped craft the narrative and keep George from going off the rails..until ROTJ..and then later the Prequels...ugh.>>18524GAAHHH!!!!! FUCK THAT CUNTY LITTLE SHIT BEING ANAKIN. THIS IS IT!!!! Anakin was a washout Jedi went back into the ranks after Obi-wan makes similar speech speech and becomes a Knight off the bat due to actions in the first movie which would be a hell lot more impressive then a 9 year old shitting around in a fighter and getting "lucky". Also I like the idea of veteran wooing the young ladies...because that is how it works in a good bit of fantasy anyway.Until those damn Prequels Anakin was the proto Kyle Katarn washed up vet going back into the service because he's asked to which would also lead into his reasons of falling into the dark side being a hell lot more compelling.
>>18527From the sounds of the announcement stuff, Lucas thinks a proper restoration of the original cut's too expensive at the moment.
>>18532then why not use the reels from the '90s Special Edition? Wasn't that the same footage just with his graphical tweaks and an extended bit spliced in?
>>18526Ugh. I'm such a fucking nerd. I can't help but go "fffffffff" at shit in here.
>>18532>too expensiveFFFFFFF!Fuckerr has more money than Jesus! And he owns IAM! He can't restore three movies? Anyway, favorite non-Jedi, non-Solo EU character. Guri was awesome. And she got a Good End.
>>18532>too expensive.Lucas is full of shit. That man has more money than God and Hugh Hefner combined, and Lucasarts already digitally restored the older footage when it released the special editions some time back. All they would need to do is cut out the 'Special Edition' footage and do some minor touching up.But no. Because Lucas is an ass to his fans.
>>18573As awful as this is to say, I can't wait till he's dead. Yes, then the lunatics would be in charge of the sanitarium, but so what? Half the stuff the EU has generated is better than the prequels. At least the people who respect the franchise will be in charge, rather than some jaded old hack who views the series as a distraction from his "real career" and just milks it for money.
>>13673You know, I had a theory...The Stormtrooper armor actually works fine, but the soldiers are just lazy fucks that feign death or injury the second they get shot in order to get out of work.
>>18616feign serious injury or risk getting Vader pissed and being Choke Slammed
Why is this not a real thing? Something like this would have been the perfect trap card for Disney to play when Universal put Potter on the field.
>>18618I would go there every day.
>>18618Now this is a fucking theme park.
http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/StewjonUm, Chee, I'm pretty sure George was joking. You can stop now...
>>18667>"This is one of the first things I wrote in the very first script. He comes from the planet Stewjon" - George Lucas on Obi-Wan's planet of originHAHA, no.
>>18667They did the same thing with Conan....it may have been a joke, but now it's a canon joke.
>>18673at least till Lucas decides otherwise
>>18676Which is pretty much how he comes up with everything.
>>18672As I said, George was joking. And the damn Holocron keepers are taking it literally.
>>18691I realizing he was joking and the guys are accepting it as full canon. I was saying 'no' because there's no way i'm going to acknowledge such silliness.
