Yasuhiro Takeda has just tweeted that Satoshi Kon has, in fact, passed away. This has also been confirmed by Madhouse with whom he was working on Dream Machine with. The cause of death seems to be cancer. He was only 47 years old.You probably know him by Paprika, Tokyo Godfathers, Perfect Blue, or Paranoia Agent.

I AM MASSIVELY SAD NOW
It is the saddest news.
FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF
He will be missed.
Goodnight Sweet Prince
I think it's obvious what we have to do here:We have to kill the guy that made K-on, and use him as a sacrifice to revive our glorious Tokyo Godfathers creator.
Aw, crap. He had one interesting mind.
Holy shit...
..........................................................FUCK!I has a sad.
Oh.Rest in peace, sir.
nooooooooooo ;;
Goddamit...just goddamit Rest in peace man, rest in peace
>>48495Or we could just put parts of Kon, Tezuka, McCay, and Eisner into some kind of animation and comic übermensch.All we need is a person with access to lightning or Azoth or something.
Even if he isn't a VA I’m guessing it was throat cancer from smoking. That shit tends to get all the good people of animation.
Noooo
This is terrible. He was so young! Who knows what other stories he had in him?
He left a creative legacy that was interesting, thought-provoking and distinctive- one that enriched the souls of thousands, and will go on to do the same for tens of thousands more. I'll be happy to do half as much with my life as he did with his.
NooooooooooooMan, and I just saw Tokyo Godfathers too.This is super depressing news.
Why must the overwhelmingly talented die young?
Damn, that's too bad.
>>48524 Because if they didn't die hacks would, what kind of world would we be in without an untalented majority?
>>48526A fair one.Though I suppose all the shit makes the gold shine even brighter in comparison.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOPlease tell me they're gonna finish Dream Machine.
>"Satoshi Kon didn't die. He just went to the moon."
He was by far my favorite contemporary anime director, perhaps animation in general. He brought engaging, thoughtful, and sometimes downright bizzare ideas to the medium without being pretentious or exclusive. He was honest and unafraid of showing the darker parts of his imagination but generous with the lighter side as well. He could make an impression brutally and fearlessly but never for the sake of shock or reaction. He'll be sorely missed but as Dagda said, he has done a great deal for industry and doubtless many individuals so I can't find myself being too sad over this. He accomplished a lot and inspired more; I'm quite certain he would like his life (and even its' termination) to foster more creativity and joie de vivre instead of sulking.DOESN'T MEAN I WON'T SULK. AWWWHH, WHY?!>>48530; u;
;___;
>>48529They are. And with this sort of luck, it'll fall apart.
>>48547 He'll tell them to make the end his final moments trying to submit his last idea to the animators. You never know what it was he struggled so hard to give to them.
He's not alonehttp://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2010-08-25/director/key-animator-shojuro-yamauchi-passes-away
>>48549My god. Lupin III, Studio Ghibli works... Grave of the fucking Fireflies. That movie was the one that shifted my perspective on animation, comics, and manga from a childhood pastime to a medium for any sort of creativity. Also the only movie, live or animated, to literally make me bawl and cry uncontrollably.Please rest in pleace, Mr. Yamauchi.
>>48549 So Yoshito Usui , Satoshi Kon ,and now Shojuro Yamauchi. Someone picking off anime giants.
http://www.geekosystem.com/studio-ghibli-closing/Since we're already doing bad news.
>>48557Gee, that's not a manipulative article title at all.We've known that the studio's financial status is fragile and poor box office returns from a single film could dissolve them; Miyazaki said the same thing before Ponyo hit the US. If their new Borrowers film doesn't perform as expected, they will likely fold.
>>48554Don't you think that's maybe a little paranoid?
>>48558Yet shitty studios like Kyoani continue to thrive. Feels bad man.
>>48560>KyoAni>ShittyGee sure is "KyoAni only makes K-on" in here. If you're going to hate on something, hate on a studio that deserves it, like GONZO or DEEN.
>>48562>implying Kyoani makes anything worthwhile, apart from FMP
>>48562The day Kyoani puts out an anime that's actually worth watching ( other than FMP of course) then they will have my respect.
Goddammit, you guys will take any opportunity to side-track a thread for the sake of bitching about something, won't you? I don't think most artists who die would like their fans' condolences to take the form of spite toward all the works which you consider inferior to theirs.>>48559No, he's just joking, that's just a reference to--(reads poster name)--I lol'd.
>>48562>implying Desert Punk and SoltyRei weren't totally rad
>>48569 I don't like how two out of three died really horrible ways. And two of them going in such quick succession is a little weird, hopefully no one else in the anime industry will die this fall or I may actually believe my joke.
If someone else DOES die, the Death Note jokes will begin.
>>48563>>48567Samefag
>>48576 Okay?

>>48648What an amazing man. And his wife and friends and family, too. Oh god. Like others have said, he left behind one hell of a legacy, one that will spark the imaginations of many artists to come, and he was at peace with his death. I shouldn't be too desolate over this, and it'll get better.in the meantime brb sobbing
>>48648>I might inconvenience the people around me, but I asked them to see how I could escape and go back home. [I was able to do so] thanks to my wife's efforts, the hospital's cooperation despite their position of having given up on me, the tremendous help of other medical facilities, and the coincidences that were so numerous that they only seemed to be gifts from heaven. I've never seen so many coincidences and events falling into place so neatly in real life, I could barely believe it. This wasn't Tokyo Godfathers after all.Oh god why is water leaking from my eyes what is happening
>>48648> I loved the world I lived in. Just the fact that I can think that makes me happy....o-oh god...
>>48648What a beautiful man.
>>48648Really touching.Then I read this comment on the post:>His films were so amazing I'm glad they didn't make lots of money. I feel more special liking them. wat
There was one moment where I did start to get a real lump in my throat.>Even with my previous movies, I've been so irresponsible with the productions and the budgets, but I always had Maruyama-san figure it out for me in the end.
>>48683It's a trollpost, leave it.
>>48648There's just something deeply moving about ending your life with the equivalent to "I'm heading out". He was one of the good ones, that rare breed you think'll be around forever: too rare to live and too weird to die.I hope to whatever deity there is that when it's my time, I can head out with the same dignity. See you in that big movie theater in the sky.
NOOOOOOOOO FUCK YOU 2010!
>>48648 A legend leaves us. May he find peace. God knows anime has been struck a blow today.
Next up: Shinichirō Watanabe
>>48778Shut your mouth.
>>48648
>>48778Why would you say such a thing?Next thing you'll tell me is Miyazaki will kick the bucket. ;_;
>>48817DON'T JINX IT
>>48817Well Miyazaki is in his what late 70's early 80's?
>>48836I think 4/co/ is still taking bets on whether Miyazaki, Stan Lee, or Morgan Freeman will die first.
>>48837 The answer of course is You, youth can't save you from death.
>>48837Stan Lee is immortal and Morgan Freeman is god.Miyazaki probably plans to have his corpse turned into fertilizer or some fruity environmental thing like that, so he's really the only option.
Stan Lee, like most of his career, is only immortal because he stole it from Jack Kirby.And if he wasn't so damn charismatic and kind, I'd hate him, but he's taken on that old wonderful man quality. So I love him regardless.
