Let me save you some time here... Reborn is not as good a shonen series as you think it is. It has it's moments, but in my personal opinion, I think the whole thing is just badly done.

The artwork is not very distinctive, (Try to tell one pretty boy character from another) the battle scenes are dull and confusing, and the main character, Tsuna, is one of the worst characters I have ever witnessed. Seriously, this guy has gone through loads of shit and hundreds of life and death situations, and yet he's still the same cowardly, spineless twit he was when the series began. He has almost zero character growth.

And the story is pretty badly done. In a recent arc, Tsuna faced off against a big bad from a future era who was so powerful, his power could reach across multiple dimensions and he fanced himself a god. Tsuna and his friends were only just able to defeat him.

Then what happens? In the current arc, a new set of bad guys appear literally out of nowhere, and are even MORE powerful than the last guy, literally destroying our heroes in one blow and disabling their powers. I know this happens sometimes in shonen series, but it's just so badly done with no buildup or explaination.

Seriously, there are better series out there than this..

And yet I routinely enjoy reading Reborn more than I do some of the "better" manga out there. Yeah, it's pretty generic shonen, but it's fun, it's funny, and haha wow fuck you the art is the best art in Shonen Jump right now, so that's just, like, your opinion, man.

As for you, Tiki, read up to the point where Dino shows up (chap 27) and then skip to chapter 60. That's right before the Kokuyo gang shows up and shit gets fucking real. After that, hold on to your shit because holy jesus, this manga loses its mind.

Also the Varia are fucking awesome.

Seriously, fuck you about the art, dude. I'll give you some of the plot failings and I'll admit that Byakuran was defeated way too easily, but this is seriously some of the best art in WSJ. It's shit where Tiki is now, but Amano progresses exponentially from the Daily Life Arc to the Varia arc. It's absolutely batshit to see how far she's come. The characters are distinctive, considering one of them is a walking love letter to Lady Gaga, and the designs are fun. You might actually be brain damaged if you can't tell what's going on in the fights because it's step-to-step, dude.

As for the Shimon group, the reason they wiped the floor so thoroughly with the Vongola is because they were fighting with Flames that they were unaccustomed to. Even Byakuran was still using Sky flames, while Enma clearly states out-right that they're not using any of the traditional seven flames. They're fighting with Earth Flames, which is something that hasn't been encountered since Primo was alive a few hundred years ago. So yes, they are more powerful than the Vongola by virtue of having the element of surprise.

So seriously stfu dude.

Oh my gosh I loved this series, but gave up during the future arc because shit got long and confusing and that byakuran dude was dull as fuck

The art was best in the Varia arc, I'd say. It's gotten altogether too shiny and sparkly and generic-looking since then, the artist progressed to a certain point and then just went too far.

"Best art" is so god damn fucking subjective, stop arguing about it. And Reborn probably does have the best art in Jump, if you like sparkling prettyboys.
That said, I really liked the early parts of Reborn, which everyone else hates apparently. Stopped reading when it turned into another generic fighting manga. Already have enough on those on my list and I'd rather read one with a solid story.

Reborn's art if good if you like massive blotches of spilled ink and SPEEDLINES EVERYWHERE and confusing battles.

Seriously, it puts Bleach to shame sometimes.

The two best artists in Jump are Oda and Obata, though the cartoonish styles they use for One Piece and Bakuman can still be ugly at times, they at least demonstrate creativity. Also Obata has demonstrated that he has about 20 different fucking styles that he can draw in.

Yeah, that. Since Reborn was trendy for a year, a bunch of amateur manga colorists(particularly in the livejournal icon community) picked up on it and decided that it was the best thing ever and began liberally applying hideous red blobs around characters's eyes, with predictably terrible results.

Sometimes it can look cool, sometimes it looks terrible. It's all a case-by-case basis thing. Lots of shitty fanartists do it to be all "lol i know how color liek professional" Klar over on DA does it and it looks neat, but that's because all of her art is pretty fucking awesome. (And looking at her DA now, it seems like she's toned it down some).

I love KHR's fanbase, I really do. They're one of the few reasons why I actually continue to read the series. I was quite glad to run into a few and see a KHR panel at the last con I went to.
