Last chapter raws will probably show up tomorrow, but given its supposed size, I can't really guess if the scanlation will show up same day or not.
Remember all, no looking at the raws or spoilers. The gathering must not be missed.
Wow, the previous thread lasted less than 3 months even though the one before that lasted 8.>>44038Doubt it; the last one was shorter (but still longer than usual) and it still took like two days until scans came out.>>44039OK, where it is going to be again?

So what did Hohenheim do? He's still alive, but (as far as I could tell) he doesn't make any appearance past when he visits his wife's grave.
>>44142The ending photographs imply he dies peacefully, as a human, having used all his Philosopher's Stones.
>>44143I thought I just missed something. That's about what I expected.I wonder how long it took, and what he did before dying.
>>44144I'm pretty sure that he either used them all up in the fight, or used them saving a few wounded soldiers or something.
>>44145I meant until he died of something.. wait would using up his Philosopher's Stones just turn him back into a regular human or would he die as soon as it ran out of power?
ADORABLIEST ENDING I WASN'T EXPECTING FOR AL
Ed and Winry are so very adorkable
All right, now that it's over, let's play "what we got right and what we got wrong." Here's mine.RIGHT!Hohenheim would attempt a self-sacrifice.Father would be defeated by being punted through the Gate.Al would get his body back (yes, there were actually people who argued against this).Ed and Al would remain in Amestris and not go to Germany or any place like that.Selim would be de-Pride'd but not killed.Kimblee was not done being important.Scar was still there for a reason.Ed would never break his no-killing rule.Roy would not be Fuehrer.Roy would be threatened with Riza's death to open the Gate. There would be an Evangelion homage.[Luthor]WRONG[/Luthor]Hohenheim would SUCCEED at said self-sacrifice.Hohenheim would defeat Father. At least one of the Chimeras would die.The Man in White outranked the Homunculi.Olivia would kill Bradley.Lust would come back via the stone the Homunculi stole from Marcoh's house (Gluttony said it smelled like her).Gluttony and Sloth would be spared for being relatively harmless.Pride was nobody we knew.
>>44152"Roy would not be Fuehrer.">>441304 stars on that uniform
>>44154Well, crap.Guess we know who Grumman picked.
I want to recommend FMA to a friend who is a casual anime viewer - should I tell him to watch the original series or Brotherhood?
>>44156BROTHERHOOD, ORIGINAL IS TERRIBAD.
>>44156He should either read the manga or watch the first anime before watching Brotherhood.Brotherhood was made for people who did one of those, and as a result the early parts can really come off as rushed if you hadn't seen them before.
>>44130OH, it's the good end version of this.
>>44158Yeah, but like I said he's pretty casual. So I'm not going to get him to read/watch 'the same thing' twice.
>>44160BROTHERHOOD
Edward's dorky proposal to Winry!BAWWWWWI'M SO HAPPYSO WHY AM I CRYING?!
>>44156First series
I'd say Brotherhood's tone would be better for casual viewing.
>>44164Reported>>44156Have him read the manga.
>>44166For what?
>>44167I do believe you gained the above anons ire by implying that half of a story with LOL NAZIS AND ANGST stapled onto it is preferable to the manga or Brotherhood.
>>44156Tell him to watch the first series until they return to their teacher. Then tell him to stop watching that and start watching Brotherhood. Because at the point where the first story deviates from the original (they get sent back to the island and start to realize homunculi are products of human transmutation) is where it starts to get kind of stupid. And then it just goes full retard with the alternate reality WW2 bullshit.
>>44169The guy might like LOL NAZIS AND ANGST, who knows. I know a lot of casual anime viewers liked it, and a lot of casual anime viewers who hated it as well. He'd be disappointed if he were led into the series anticipating LOL NAZIS for half of it, though--they don't show up until the movie.
>>44169That's a really dumb reason to report a post.
>>44171One should always direct people to the superior series. >>44170Lab 5 and some of the earlier events are very different in the first anime than in the manga. It's best to just go right to the source.
>>44173Yeah but they weren't by any means bad. I think the whole thing with Ed actually considering using the prisoners to make a stone was some interesting character development. Then again I thought the argument on whether or not Al was real wasn't done very well, nor was one of the Slicer brothers killing himself. Diff'rent strokes and all that.
Oh god guys this ending was so great I love it oh man T-TAnd yeah, I liked the first series. Brotherhood/the manga is so, SO much better, but I still enjoyed the first series.
I would still recommend Brotherhood. Even when the first anime was following the same plot, it was thematically opposite of the manga/brotherhood.Plus, the beginning of Brotherhood might be a bit rushed, but it still works for first time viewers. My little brother had no problem following it. And the beginning of the first anime has a metric ton of boring filler, so it's kind of a choose your poison scenario.
It was okay, but not as good as X-Men Misfits.
>>44179>And the beginning of the first anime has a metric ton of boring filler, so it's kind of a choose your poison scenario. With the exception of episodes 4, 10, and maybe 13, that's using a pretty loose definition of "filler".
It doesn't have filler so much as it has padding
>>44183>Episode Six: Ed and Al begin preparing for the Alchemy Exam while lodging with Shou Tucker, "The Sewing-Life Alchemist," who is well-known for creating intelligent chimeras, including one that could speak the human language (but died shortly after it was created). The brothers become fast friends with Tucker's daughter, Nina, and her dog, Alexander. The Elrics' cramming is only interrupted when Hughes and his wife, Gracia, throw a birthday party for Ed. During the party, Gracia goes into labor and they witness the birth of Elicia. Ed discovers at this time that he can perform Alchemy without a Transmutation Circle. After the written portion of the test, Mustang forces Al to drop out so Al's lack of a body due to the attempted Human-Transmutation is not revealed. Ed successfully passes the interview and passes the practical portion "with flying colors" when he saves the entire prospective State-Alchemist group with his quick thinking, courage, and ability to transmute without a Circle. Episode Eight:>Anguished by the horrible demise of Nina, and disgusted at his first assignment of organizing Tucker's research after learning of the man's death, Ed considers deserting to track down her killer. Al, however, finds reference to the philosopher's stone among Tucker's papers, and evinces an interest in it to Ed. Ed is incredulous that it exists and wants nothing to do with it. Left to his own devices, Al has spoken to the Fuhrer about the philosopher's stone, and the Fuhrer encouraged him to pursue it. Winry, who has arrived at Central to visit Ed and Al, is kidnapped by a butcher-turned-serial killer named Barry the Chopper, who disguises himself as a woman. Ed, falling for Barry's deception, gets kidnapped as he tries to free Winry and run awayEpisode Ten:>After exposing Father Cornello in Lior as a fraud (the events of Episode 2), Ed and Al are on their way back to report to Colonel Mustang about the incident. They stop at the town of Aquroya and get caught up in the manhunt for a talented cat burglar, Psiren, who uses her skills as an alchemist to make fools of the local police time and again. The Chief of Police hopes to fight fire with fire by using Ed to catch Psiren. Three times, Psiren tricks Ed and Al into thinking that she steals for the good of the people; saving certain buildings from being torn down. But each time, the building gets demolished anyway and Psiren gets away with it. Alphonse, still believing that Psiren is really a good person, tries to stop Ed from catching Psiren before she gets away with the loot. Finally in a last battle, Ed captures Psiren and hands her over to the police. Psiren still manages to escape and Ed realizes her importance as a draw for tourism in the sinking city of Aquroya. Episode 11:>On a tip from Psiren, Edward and Alphonse arrive in Xenotime to look for the Philosopher's Stone. They find a young girl trapped under a fallen mine cart and save her using alchemy. The girl introduces herself as Elisa and brings them to the tavern. During the feast in their honor, the brothers hear that a Philosopher's Stone is near completion. A man named Mugiar has been researching the stone, but when Ed and Al introduce themselves, they discover that impostors have assumed their names. They sneak into Mugiar's mansion to meet the impostors, but the older impostor is very skilled at alchemy and the real Elric brothers are forced to retreat. In the morning, Al goes to buy medicine for Elisa but is unable to do so because everybody in the town believes him to be an impostor. Fletcher, the younger fake Elric, meets Al and buys the medicine for him. At night, the real Elrics enter the mansion again. The older impostor uses red water to attack Ed, but Fletcher saves Ed and reveals the red water is toxic and has been poisoning the town. Episode 12:>Ed and Al depart from the mansion after Ed is saved by Fletcher. Mugiar, stunned at the damage dealt to the lab, asks the Tringham brothers to use an alternate method to speed up the creation of the red stone. When Russell refuses, Mugiar reveals that he knows the Tringhams are not the real Elrics and captures them. Back at the tavern, Ed and Al learn about Nash Tringham, Russell and Fletcher's father. The original discoverer of the red water, Nash soon left the city and was never seen again after the townspeople began to develop a disease following his research. The next day, the real Elric brothers are invited to research the red water by Mugiar. They agree, free the Tringhams, and corner Mugiar by asking about Nash. Mugiar responds by attacking the Elrics using the partial stone. With the help of the Tringhams, the Elrics overpower Mugiar, but he escapes to an underground lair. However, Mugiar collapses the underground passage, causing the red water to flood out of the spring. Fletcher, using his alchemy, makes the trees absorb the red water, neutralizing the threat. The Elrics say good-bye to the Tringhams, and board a train for East City. And that's not even bringing up the insanity of turning Lior into a two-parter.
>>44185Like I said, that's a ridiculously loose definition of "filler", especially considering how much of that did turn out to be important in the anime.
>>44186How so? And I don't mean how it was important for the anime, I know that much, but people are advocating the beginning of the first anime on the basis that it's basically the same as the manga/brotherhood, and then jumping rtracks in Dublith. Dublith might be where it really derailed into crazytown (for better or worse) but things were certainly NOT the same up to that point.
>>44187By your definition "filler" would mean "anything that was not in the manga". What I'm considering "filler" is stories which had no future impact on the plot. However, I do agree that watching the first half of the first anime then switching to part way through Brotherhood is a dumb idea. Not because of stuff that's irrelevant to the manga plot being added but because of some stuff that was relevant to the future plot of the manga but removed/changed because it wasn't going anywhere. For instance, they knew Xerxes wasn't going to be important so they removed the reference to it in the flashback to the Elric brother's childhood.
I literally had to take a nap after reading because it blew my mind so hard.Good god, this series has finally ended. I'm not sure how to feel about this other than I'm so happy everyone got their happy ending.
>>44195Similarly, I find myself randomly pausing as if expecting something important to happen and keep thinking of what it says here. >>44130
Heh, looks like Ed's going to adopt the new principle and add one on, amirite?Well, he DID judging by leetle babby in his arms on the end pages. Jesus, most clumsy silly adorable proposal/couple ever.
PS FUCK YEAH YOU OWN THAT REHAB, YOU OWN IT Havoc ;A;
>>44130I wonder just how long Arakawa's been waiting to perform THAT bookend. Glorious.
So Happy,Can't wait to see the animated version of it.
>>44173>One should always direct people to the superior series.>superior seriesOn what grounds? Art is subjective. Frankly, I love the manga and the first anime but find Brotherhood a little dull in comparison to both. This does not mean that it's bad, just that I don't care for it. Likewise, I can understand why people might dismiss the first anime because of "LOL NAZIS AND ANGST," but the idea of Ed and Al beating up Nazis after the movie just makes me smile.Save the "IT'S BETTER BECAUSE I SAY SO" bullshit for some other imageboard, ok?
>>44210>I love the manga and the first anime but find Brotherhood a little dull in comparison to both. He was talking about the manga.
>>44152>Ed and Al would remain in Amestris and not go to Germany or any place like that. Technically not true. They're both going to other countries to study what knowledge they have there (Al's going to Xing, Ed's going to whatever country is west), they're just not stuck there.
>>44137Arakawa's a Mom with a two year old son, she's said before that she wants her kid to read it one day so I guess that's why she chose to have everything go smoothly. You know, that or she's creating a story for fun instead of some sort of grimdark social commentary. ¯\(°_o)/¯>>44217Creta. Drachma to the north and Areugo (sp?) to the south too but they are alchemy-free barbarians I guess.
>>44156I would say have him watch Brotherhood first, if only because it's the "true canon." If he likes it enough, recommend the first series to him. In my opinion both series have their strong points. For example, I like the development all the homunculi got in Brotherhood, but I liked their origin stories better in the first series.
Wouldn't been better to watch before the last chapter, but:http://gangan.square-enix.co.jp/hagaren/special/20100611_movie/index.html
I went with Brotherhood; thanks, dudes. Tiki's caps were really persuasive.
>>44227I knew somebody knew the countries. Now do we have the page where they were talked about?Ah screw it, I don't have a reason not to read the series a second time.Other than needing to read through One Piece, Fairy Tail, JoJo, Black Jack, Phoenix, Kinnikuman, Pokemon Special.......Eh couldn't hurt.
this?A good map is shown, not sure where though.
>>44274That might be the one I'm thinking of, but I thought it came up again when they were at the Briggs base?
The Shape of the Country, where they talk about the civil wars and shit?
>>44274>Dorakuma>Drachma is clearly spelled right there.
So am I still to believe that the original series had some basis in saying they are in an alternate universe version of Europe or should I just toss that idea out window and assume their land structure is nothing like ours in the real world? (Well besides the whole brown and yellow people come from the East thing.)>>44130Is it me or does Roy look dubiously douche-tastic? Also wouldn't May be like 14 to Alphonse's twenty? He's got a good span of time over her is all I'm saying.
I thought she was like 12 or 13 in the series, and just tiny.
>>44310yeah, this. I mean, we know what Arakawa's 8-year olds look like, they're all head. Mei looks nothing like that. She's just really short, probably due to malnutrition.
>>44311>She's just really short, probably due to malnutrition. With that logic why is Al taller than Ed when his body looked like hell in the Gate? Given we've always known Al would be the taller of the two but still.
>>44313Because their souls are weirdly connected, so Al was growing for both of them. This is actually canon.
Chinese (analogue) girls are just small sometimes, this should surprise no one.
