Smith has described how he creates the scripts. Following Zack and Miri Make a Porno, he had "a sort of nervous breakdown, or as close to a mid-life crisis" and started heavily smoking cannabis, which, he claims, has contributed to his writing of the series:>I’m not telling you anything new…I’m far more creative now, you know. I’ve been writing this Batman: The Widening Gyre miniseries, and I’m stoned all the time when I’m writing it. And, I swear, I’ll write it, and then, it’s not so much blackout, but forget, so much so that the next morning, I go to read what I wrote, and it’s, like, I’m that fuckin’ little cobbler and elves came and fuckin' wrote it in the night, because I’m, like, "This is better than anything I’ve ever written before." I mean, like, I’ve done comics, but this is way better.Chris Sims, reviewing the sixth issue at Comics Alliance, said "This thing is up there with "Rise of Arsenal" #3 for being one of the worst super-hero comics of the year, which, when you consider the competition, puts it squarely in the running for the worst of all time" suggesting:>"Widening Gyre" is the most compelling argument I've seen for the distinction between fan-fiction and "legitimate" comics writing being purely monetary, because there is no qualitative distinction whatsoever between what Smith's doing here and what JokerScarz666 puts up on his LiveJournal. Smith's writing on Batman is marked by nothing so much as a pervasive immaturity. He writes like a 13-year-old in every possible way.
>Smith's writing on Batman is marked by nothing so much as a pervasive immaturity. He writes like a 13-year-old in every possible way.ABSOLUTELY AGREED.
He must be doing it on purpose. Like Frank Miller. They're both geniuses!
>>78694Okay what the fuck?
>>78698FUCKING TERRIBLE WRITING.I should also mention he has the Joker acting incredible gay and ready to use anal sex as a favor, no, I don't mean joke about it, he has the Joker bend over with his pants down and ask for sodomy.
I just feel bad for Batman's girlfriend. Also Baphomet's secret surprised me, but only because I hadn't read any of Smith's works previously. Maybe it would have been more obvious if I had.
>>78693Two-hundred-and-twenty-thirded.
>>78694What. >>78700WHAT
Wow. And I thought that 'Black Cat gets raped to add DEEEEEP' shit he pulled was immature and ham-fisted.
So basically people are whinging because their favourite caped crusader isn't being written as total godhax. Fanboys are hilarious drama queens sometimes, so I can only imagine how badly 4chan's /co/ is taking this series.
>>78930Disregard this post. I've just browsed 4chan's /co/ and it's become /v/ crossed over with Deviantart.
>>78930No actually it's because the writing is beyond shitty. The art doesn't make things much better, I pretty much laughed my way through this.
>>78930No, it's bad writing and art, to an extreme. It's pretty funny though.
>>78903Wait, he did that? Damn, I already hate this guy.
>>78936>bad artCheck!
So has Linkara has a seizure/aneurysm over this already?I mean I keep thinking this was bad before than then people show me a new depth to which this sunk...wow.
>>78933>>78936You'd think so, but it seems like every website I've seen covering this comic series is getting its knickers in a twist over Batman pissing himself and little else. 80% of the comments are from angry fans and 20% are either rationalising what's going on or laughing at said fans.
>>78959I take great comfort it's in NO WAY canon.
I'm just confused about it all. How did this manage to get published?
Can we get Mr. Smith to do some Batman books with Frank Miller? If they don't kill each other, the result could be amazing.
How's his Green Hornet?
>>78944To be fair, that's totally the sort of thing dolphins might do. They can be real jerks.>>78945John Goodman, what are you doing here?
One of my best friends, the person who helped get me into superhero comics in the first place, is saying that Smith was "an evil genius" in The Widening Gyre #6.What.The big twists were that the love interest died before she could alter the status quo and that the guy named after a DEMON was EVIL. It would be a twist of those things DIDN'T happen.Okay, Baphomet being Onomatopoeia was less expected, but it still wasn't that great a twist. "This new character created by Kevin Smith is actually... an older character created by Kevin Smith!" And it's not like we didn't know he would up to something after he made his appearance near the beginning.First endorsing Dominic Deegan, and now this. I'm starting to question her taste in comics.
Also, on a less serious note: every time Silver opens her mouth, I feel like I'm going to tumble in and be lost forever in the void. She is the Gaping Maw, the Ebon Devourer.
>mfw when Batfans are mad
>>82834 Nope no one is allowed to feel any emotion about anything. Especially the joy from this image so cut it out you loser.
>>82835You mad?
>>82839You're using the meme that is proof that I can't be under any circumstance or show any other emotion online other then cold spite and snide you worthless cunt. :)
>>82845The High Holiness are you talking about Amigo?
>>82847 That U mad stuff. The joke that's unfortunately started a trend of people laughing at others for caring about anything whether or not it’s excessive. It’s right of course, as I can’t be mad about batman or anything online. Else I become the butt of a tired joke.
>>82856No, you're kinda just a butt.
>>82857 Yes, its the only way to be internet cool.
>>82856We're all mad here!
>>82856No, you respond with this.Being mad at this shit is a perfectly valid response, in my opinion. It would be one thing if I thought this was funny, but this is just poorly written toilet humor from a pothead. If I could, I would eradicate it from the face of the earth.

>Getting paid to write what is essentially officially published fanfiction>Oh and it's Batman>And you get to let a good friend do the artY'know, I really can't blame Kevin Smith for doing it. Sure it's crude and awful and what not, but he's doing something he loves and getting paid to do it. I won't pay for this or read it, but I won't condemn Smith for doing it either.
>>78694>>78700I read western comics (derp weaboo) only once every other planetary alignment and somehow I find myself offended by this.
>>78700Wasn't that in cacophony?
>>83138Yes, but this is set in the same time line/Smith Verse.
>>78964Rick: "Look! All I'm saying is that this comic is reactionary militarist pamphlet! All they ever do is fight all the time!"Vyvyan: "And what's so wrong with that? I suppose you think we should all go around touching each others bottoms! Dan Dare touches a Mekons' bottom! Exciting new story! Batman gooses The Jokers crack!!"
