Honestly, fantastical hair colors are not uncommon in many things. Styles however, are straight up bad Japanese design. It wasn't always this way.

One thing I loath about black and white is the utter lack of verity of pokemon you have access too before the 5th gym. And the fact that gyms seem to be built right on top of what they're weak against. "Boy oh boy, I sure do love Electric Pokemon! I know, I'll build my gym right outside of a desert filled with rock and ground type pokemon!"

Well you are starting in a different part of Unova.
I'd imagine there'd be a gym somewhere before you get into the main Entralink loop of Unova, and assuming they do something like lock off the drawbridge until you come at it from the other side, then you'd create a new loop.
And since Shizui is beach themed and Undella is the only beach-themed town in Unova, that's probably where he'll be.
So two new gyms.
And if they do what I think they'll do and keep the Skyarrow Bridge closed until after the Elite Four, then that makes it all work out nicely.

My Nidorino has been showing signs that he might like to evolve soon. I have a moonstone in my bag but... I hate to say it but I like him how he is. I have nothing against Nidokings, but they're kinda large and typically aggressive. Gino is used to being able to follow me around, and I know if he evolves he'll be too big for a lot of places. There's also the excess aggression to worry about. He's surprisingly sweet for a Nidorino, and I'm worried that the evolution might cause a personality shift.
Basically, what should I do? I want him to be happy, but I really don't want him to change.

I faced the same problem with my Electabuzz a few months ago (see >>24210 and >>24520), although there it was less of a temperament issue and more of a property damage one.
Although Nidokings tend to be more powerful Pokemon, Nidorinos are able to use their smaller size and agility to use different techniques in battle.
I've seen a Nidorino take down a Steelix in one hit with its horn. I shit you not.

What I'm getting at is, don't feel obligated to evolve your Nidorino. If you want, you can give it the choice to evolve or not. Pokemon tend to respond well to having that kind of involvement in their own development.

Otherwise, hang around on the previous route, waiting for trainers to come by. Defeat them, take their money, and save up to buy a bunch of PokeBalls. Then catch a water type, and teach it Surf.

If you don't have surf then uh... yeah I don't know. Certainly all the trainers that arrive would at least have it, so you could ask them kindly to let you borrow it. Otherwise just swim (swimming is possible in the Pokemon world afterall, just not for the player). If you're not a strong swimmer, your new water Pokemon could help.

Very first hall of fame? Typhlosion in Silver. Anyone else was basically just for HMs and I don't remember who exactly I had. But Typhlosion did literally all the work.

In fact, that's how all my games went until Pearl.

the only two that I can remember having on my team clearly are Alakazam and Nidoqueen.
They're some of my favorite pokemon.

I do know in emerald I had a Slaking and a Spinda.
