So, I marathon-ed the show earlier in the week and watched the finale today.
I've red two of the books (Red Dragon and Silence of the Lambs) and watched three of the movies (Red Dragon, Silence of the Lambs, and Hannibal), and I have to say...
This show is better. It's so much better than in the books (while still paying homage to them) and a helluva lot better than the movies. Everything about this show is so well executed that even the scenes of dismemberment and gore feel very eloquent. I just really love this show, and it had me hooked from the first episode.
I like that this show is very smart yet also very clear without having to talk down to you. It proves that you can still be creative and intelligent and not be forced to twist what you've made to be more easily consumable for the wider audience.
I love Hannibal's cooking segments and how he keeps his trophies of everyone he kills? It feels weird to see him work with human organs and then think "Wow, this looks delicious" by the time he's done with it. I don't think the casting could have been more perfect. Honestly, I didn't think much of Mads Mikkelsen before this show, as I only saw him in Casino Royale, and didn't really like that movie, but watching this show really shows off a very well-honed talent. I also thought Lawrence Fishbourne used to be really good, but lost his chops in more recent films (I really didn't think he was all that great in predators), but now I see I was wrong. I don't think I heard of (Or at least saw anything with him in it) Hugh Dancy before this.
Just every aspect of this is a well crafted show. It makes me wish Bryan Fuller was doing Game of Thrones, oddly enough.
