My laptop, a Dell Inspiron E1505, is dying and I've made up my mind to replace it with something better.Unfortunately, I'm a poor college student and I've only got a thousand dollars stashed away to get a new one.Can anyone suggest a relatively good laptop that I could buy, preferably online, for a thousand dollars or less?
I'm sorry about the picture. I didn't know that it would show up with a big ugly background.

>>1739Well, it's certainly better than the one that I'm using now. Will it still be respectable two or three years from now?
Jesus, $1000? you can get some pretty damn good for that kind of money, IMO. Not gaming good, but school good for sure. Today's laptops are overpowered for what most students would need - word processing, spreadsheets, internet. I bought my latest laptop after Christmas for $330.
>>1743Well, I'd like to play some games on it.
my $600 acer thing plays most new games on a medium/low spec. theres plenty of options.
Thinkpads are good college laptops, and you can get a decent computer for about a thousand dollars.
>>1742Yes, and they're alright for gaming. I play TF2 just fine on mine and I got it in 2006. The one I linked you to has Blu Ray :3
I have a desktop, top of the line, can play any game maxed out, and it was $600.Which means you can find something even better, now, for just as cheap.
What do you guys think of this?http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834220688
First off, never get netbooks. Small-ass shit that is annoying.Shit like this, this is amazing.http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834127171Look at that brilliant screen size, with the amazing graphics card.AMD Athlon II Dual-CoreATI Mobility Radeon HD 5145500GB HDD SATAWindows 7 Home Premium 64-bit17.3" Widescreen HD10/100/1000Mbps // 802.11b/g/n WirelessBuilt in webcam1 Year warranty parts AND laborFUCKYEAH
>>1794ALSO LOOK AT DAT PRICE. This will get you done anything you need, with extras to boot. All with a lower price.ATI/AMD combos are the BEST.
>>1794I will... seriously, seriously consider this. Thank you!
>>1794The 10" netbooks aren't bad in terms of size, IMO. I wouldn't get a netbook for my main computer, but for taking with me to campus, hell yes. I'm kind of tired of lugging around my big laptop for note taking. But that is a sweet ass deal and I wish I had a bigger financial aid refund coming to me so I could get that.
>>1797>>1796No problem bros.
>>1794How well will this handle current-generation PC games?Sorry, I'm computer illiterate.
>>1864It will handle 99% of them
>>1865At reasonable levels? I'm not a fan of playing on low settings.
>>1866It will play TF2 at top.TOP!But let me get you a computer that is slightly better that I found someone else.Wait, your budget is about a grand.http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834115792This is your best bet for price, visuals, and so on. Large, beautiful screen in HD, good spacing, and so on.Yep.
>>1868This is better than>http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834127171?It's less expensive.
>>1736Consider buying an eeePC. They are cheap, small, portable and have adequate horsepower for internet, spreadsheets and wordprocessing.
>>1869>We apologize for the inconvenience, but the item you are looking for has been deactivated. Here are some similar products that you may wish to consider:Welp.>>1870NO.NO NO NO.If you like using programs well and actually having things to do, never get these. For the price, they suck.
>>1873Oh. But is the most recent one you linked better?
>>1875Whoop, the link is only not working because I put a question mark at the end. The product itself is still available.
Hay Vorked. Do you enjoy searching for these builds? And if so, would you be interested in recommending something PC-wise?I'd like a computer that can double as both a gaming machine and a home theater PC. Assume the following:$1200-$1800 budgetStorage not a big concern (will be using external drives for storing shows and such)Must have HDMI supportMust play a game like Star Craft II on a decent setting but doesn't have to be highest quality. And if you have no interesting in looking this stuff up don't worry about it.
>>1877Oh forgot to add I don't need DVD/Blu-Ray capabilities.
>>1875Yes.>>1876Not as good as the current PC I had linked to.>>1877>>1878I'll most likely post something epic for you.
>>1877I present to you, the Ass-Kicker.http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883229137The DESTROYER:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883103274And the DEVASTATOR:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883229184If I'd have to chose ONE, I'd go with the middle. But you can take your pick out of the three. These are top-of-the-line type computers, without having to search and build them from scratch on your own, which I find awesome only if you have the funds.Which I don't.
>>1882Thanks for clearing that up.I've been warned against Acers, though. Have you heard bad things?
>>1889No, in fact, they are my favorite manufacturer.
>>1890Are you sure that you're not thinking about Asus?I mean, I've been emphatically warned away from Acers.
>>1891My computer is an Acer, my friend's is an Acer, and they're both the best computers I've ever used.
>>1893That's interesting. I wonder why I've been hearing so much bad press about them. I'll have to look into this. Thanks again for all of your help. If you find anything else you'd like to suggest, please don't hesitate to do so. You've been a great help.
