So that bit about the Pokedex had me wondering... does it have data about all existing Pokemon and only reveals the information when they're captured, or does it generate the information after they're captured?

The way I see it is when you first see the Pokemon, it records the name and physical appearance. Once you catch it, the ball sends the data to the Pokedex digitally. Like a Pokewalker to a DS.

Maybe the kids write the entries themselves. It would explain why some of them seem really exaggerated, Mr Slugma HOTTER THAN THE SUN.

The myths and stuff is form the Internet, the actual physical data (size, mass, diet, types, evolutions, etc) comes from obtaining them. And I figure the locations is the result of obtaining a Pokemon that others have caught in the wild in the past, and linking up with other Pokedexes to make one big map of locations for that species. If a Pokemon you own has "area unknown" as its location, it means no one with a Pokedex has caught it in the wild yet.

Dammit, I had so many misconceptions about the show from watching this. LIke thinking Team Rocket did actually win at some point and that footage of Pikachu at Pewter Gym was a battle against a brainwashed Pikachu on the fucking Moon.
