How come we don't have a LEGENDARY POKEMANS thread?ITT, LEGENDARIES.Picture related, it's the coolest fucken' Legendary eeverrrr
>>1545That's not Space Penis
It's kind of weird that the mascot Legendaries of the Sinnoh region, Dialga and Palkia, were so absolutely boring. Aside from looking sort of 'badass,' they never came off to me as anything resembling mythical. They were just creatures, a couple of B-List Movie Monsters, who happened to be associated with Space and Time. The obligatory Legendary Trio is no better, all looking like bad edits of Mew. They're somewhat unique, but not nearly enough and not nearly interesting enough to keep my attention. It's especially mind boggling when I look at the other Legendaries, like Giratina, Arceus and Shaymin. Granted, the idea of Pokemon God is silly, but Arceus LOOKS like a Legendary Pokemon, and Giratina and Darkrai are scary as all fuck in design. Shaymin may not be all-powerful, but it's the most adorable thing ever in Land Form, and actually fits with the old version of Legendaries, which were just run-of-the-mill mythical Pokemon (not necessarily parts of the PokePantheon.) Even Heatran, as bland as his quest is, is unique and powerful looking, even if it results in him being ugly as all fuck. But instead of all these interesting and fun designs, they stuck with Tron-Horse and Robo-Dragon. And not even a good looking Robo-Dragon!Oh right, and Cresselia. Cresselia looks nice, not awesome, but nice. I'd rather Cresselia and Darkrai be the mascots; or rather, I'd LOVE if the STARTERS could be the mascots again. As a side note, Hoenn sucked, but its Legendaries were pretty okay. Kyogre and Groudon are a bit too toyetic I think but the Regi family is a nice concept and Jirachi was a fun spin on the obligatory Mew character.I don't think I have a favorite Legendary, or a favorite REGION of Legendaries even, but if I did it'd have to be either Johto's or Sinnoh's. I really love the Legendaries having their own stories behind them, even if they're not very comprehensive ones.
>>1566There are way the fuck too many legendary Pokemon. I have no idea what's legendary anymore beyond the monsters on the front of the box.
Me...
>>1570I just want
>>1571More ancient robot pokemon.
>>1572I mean, these things had to have prototypes... mass production models.I get this idea that they were the Sentinels to ancient wild pokemon's X-men.
>>1568Eh, Legendaries are just mythical beasts, that's all. No more, no less. I like them as an addition to Pokemon's lore, but don't really think they should be the main focus of the game; if they are to be the main focus of the game, then the great numbers they have is a problem. But if they aren't, then I don't see anything wrong.>>1570>>1571>>1572Regigigas not enough?
>>1573Prototypes and mass production models aren't really something you get from massive golems who helped create the Earth. That's more of a modern robot mindset. Besides, making multiples would just dilute the ones already there. Now, a Legendary we should see some multiples of, is Latios and Latias. Goddammit it's been confirmed they live in herds FOREVER just make at least ONE area where you can see more than one or two at a time.
Oh, I'll just be over here.. Y'know.. being a language so cryptic, alien and otherworldly that the very alphabet are sentient (of sorts) and physically violent. This is a legendary, my friends. It's not an ungodly powerful legendary, but this is the text I'd expect a book not meant to be read by man containing the secrets of the universe would be written in.
>>1574They just don't feel special anymore when there are piles and piles of them floating around. The first game had four Pokemon that you had one chance at getting, they took that number and multiplied it but whothefuckknows, and now I can't even be bothered to keep track of what's legendary and what's not anymore. I haven't even made an effort to look for the legendaries in d/p because someone presented me with this like, massive list of them and I was just like "fuck, what is this, no."
Only babies use legendaries, anyway.
Now this how you be legendary, something that shakes you to the core when it appears.
Something that is unstoppable.
Something you have to search a lifetime to catch a glimpse of.
This is how the Legendary list should be.Fuck those fuckers....sorry, I never liked Heatran, Cresselia or Regigas's designs.
I have no problem with the amount of legendaries. Though, from a metagame perspective, I think some of them shouldn't have been, so they can enter standard play easier in cases where the stats and moves DON'T overshadow everything, and rather fit quite nicely (looking at you Heatran. I want a god damn heatran on my team, but noooooooo). My favorite is still Mewtwo though. Becuase I love his weird ass second spinal cord
>>1662https://plus4chan.org/boards/pkmn/src/127172009328.jpg
>>1658Get rid of Arceus, Dialga, Palkia, Darkrai, all three Regis, and Shaymin as well, then you'll have my list of Legendaries I could live with.
Aww, screw you guys. I love Heatran.
>>1672So do I.But I want to be able to USE it. Its role or uniqueness is not important to the story of the games, its stats aren't any more impressive than the upper tier of standard play. Hell, it already has male/female sprites. It's really the only legendary that could very well be NOT a legendary and still fit in just as well (MAYBE Latios and Latias, but that's a stretch)
ARE YOU READY TO RUUUMMBLE!!!!
>>1674Who ever said it needed to be considered a legendary? There's only one and you can't breed it, but it's not banned in the Battle Frontier, it has gender, and most sites list it as a member of the OU tier instead of the Uber tier.Do you just hate that some pigeonholing dickheads will call you a wuss for using it if it's "a legendary"? Why? Garchomp isn't a legendary, but that doesn't keep him from being broken as hell.
HAY GUYS I'M A LEGENDARY RIGHT
His stats are nearly legendary....
>>1689Fuck you Arcanine I'm the bestest pseudo-legendary. Also Dragonite can suck my rock.
>>1696ooh look at me, I'm 4x weak to fighting
>>1699U mad?
I used to hate that there were so many legendaries, but then I really looked at them, and realized that it makes perfect sense for each region to have its own myths and legends, or for some Pokemon to be so dangerous that humans felt they had to hunt them to extinction and lock them away forever (the Regis and Darkrai). And the Lake Trio follow all the old tropes about water spirits granting boons, or even the Lady of the Lake providing the sword Excalibur to a young Arthur. And Heatran: If it can only live in volcanic temperatures and is highly territorial, then it makes sense that there's only one or two of it now, what with the cooling of the Sinnoh region.Really, Legendaries are more like cryptids, and it's only because we call the most powerful of them legendary that there are any complaints. Dialga and Palkia can go straight to Hell. Stupid ugly robots.
>>1713>Stupid ugly robots.HEY!
>>1730Technically you're an artificial intelligence with a medical degree. That's not the same thing at all.
>>1735Well what about me?!
>>1742You're a Decepticon....In law school.
>>1743an ugly decepticon.
>>1631>>1633Articuno Zapdos and Moltres aren't really THAT amazing. They were only about level 40, which was far below NORMAL wild Pokemon levels in different areas, and none of them really had much of a story behind them. In Gen. I, the only two Pokemon to really fit the standards people peg for a Legendary are Mewtwo and Mew. Granted, I'm not saying the birds are bad by any means; I wasted my first Master Ball on an Articuno (first turn, didn't know Mewtwo was coming later.) But they are highly overrated and part of it I think is nostalgia.I mostly agree with Jazz's list, although I'd put Cresselia and Regigigas back on (with a bigger height for Regi, seriously, he should be MASSIVE.) Heatran shouldn't have been a Legendary, as people have said before, the Psychic Trio were kind of bad (although I wouldn't mind them so much if they went through a redesign) and I'm not really sure WHY Latios and Latias are considered Legendaries when even the Pokedex knows there's multiples of them.
>>1742>>1730Emphasis on the ugly, not the robot. Everybody <3 Steel Type.As a side note, goddamn Deoxys' design is slick. I love how he looks, even if he is a rampaging space monster that the Clefairy Cops couldn't handle.
Heatran is awesome. Regigigas would be incredibly awesome if Slow Start wasn't an incredible failure of an Ability.
>>1756Or if you could at least Worry Seed it away like Slaking's Truant ability; if you try that on Regi when he's still in Slow Start, he gets stuck with the lowered stats. And if you have to switch him out, Slow Start starts over again!Pic related: a superior Normal type with near-legendary attack stats.
>>1765FUCK YEAR SLAKINGAlso, they should've made something like Quick Start. Lower his stats just a little, then have his ability boost them for the first turn or two he hits the field. Or at least lower the number of turns Slow Start takes to activate.
>>1765They apparently fixed that in Battle Revolution: there removing the effect with Gastro Acid or Skill Swap (though apparently not Worry Seed, which doesn't work for Truant either) will apparently bring his stats up to full instead of locking them at half.>>1768Or just not remove every method it could have to stall or recover before those turns were up.
>>1742overweight white guy in a robot head>>1751I think Latios and Latias are legendaries because people suspect that there are lots of them, but have no idea where they are, making loners an extremely rare sight. They are the giant squid of the pokemon world.
>>1815Yeah, but Mewtwo already has the spot of the Mirage Pokemon in that regard, and there are other normal species which are extremely rare. They just don't seem like a Legendary material in comparison to other species, unless I'm missing something with their abilities. On a tangent, I heard an interesting theory that before Ho-Oh resurrected them into the Legendary Dogs, Suicine Raikou and Entei were actually Vaporeon Jolteon and Flareon. Is there anything to back up or discredit this small bit of lore?
>>1826Er, Mew as the Mirage Pokemon, not Mewtwo, sorry.
>>1696 >>1689 Everyone knows I'm the best pseudo-legendary.
>>1826Watch Flight of Dragons and tell me the image of a bunch of psychic dragons flying over head doesn't deserve the title Legendary. Besides, It's Hoenn. They live in trees. They think throwing rocket fuel into volcanoes is a good idea. They needed to design a type of sylph scope to see normal pokemon.
>>1826>DogsIsn't Raikou a tiger an Entei a lion?
>>1856The names are interchangable between Legendary Dogs and Legendary Cats, the same as Eveelutions tend to be cat/dog/fox-like depending on which is which.>>1854Latios and Latias aren't dragons, though, they're birds. It's not much more amazing than a bunch of Togekiss, and they're only a pseudo-Legendary.The Hoenn bit is a good point though.
Really, though, this does not look like a dragon.
>>1856Isn't whether they're cats, dogs, or gerbils well-known flamebait?
Discuss
>>1860I think they do.
>>1863Toothless is more of a cute salamander than a traditional dragon, but even then they don't really look the same. Latios and Latias LOOK LIKE BIRDS; monster birds fused with airline planes, but birds nonetheless.
>>1778Worry Seed doesn't work for Truant? Or just not in Battle Revolution?
>>1876At all apparently.
>>1876I dunno. I was sad when the "Thunder hits sometimes through Protect if it's raining" thing was apparently just a glitch and thus doesn't work in PBR, Platinum or HG/SS.
>>1603Agreed. I always found the Ruins of Alph and the Unown to be one of the most interesting parts of the Pokemon world--and the eeriest.Vid related. Did that "Mysterious Broadcast" creep the fuck out of anyone besides me?
>>1679Actually, it's becuase I used to play on the penny arcade forums where ALL legendaries are banned
>>1910You definitely were not the only one who had nightmares about it the day he discovered it.
Entei, Suicune and Raikou are the Legendary BEASTS.That way you don't have to argue with the whole Cat/Dog thing.TEAM CAT
>Oh, I'm real. Real enough to defeat YOU! And I did it without your gifts, your oh so special trainers. I'll give them Legendaries. I'll give them the most spectacular legendaries the world has ever seen! And when I'm old and I've had my fun, I'll sell my uniqueness so that everyone can be powerful, everyone can be legendary!>And when everyone's legendary..
>No one will be.
>>1867They're dragon/psychic types, they have mouths instead of beaks, and little dinosaur arms. They're dragons.
>>1995Ehhh, I GUESS. They still only barely count as Legendaries, though, and there still needs to be a sidequest where you can see more than one of them at a time. Not sure why Arceus is being compared to Syndrome here.
>>2058Comedy. :)
So if Mew contains the DNA of all pokemon then does she have Arceus's DNA?
>>2448I hate 4th gen.
>>2453Oh come on, it's not that big a problem. If you really need to keep the importance, just say Mew is to life what Dialga and Palkia are to Space and Time.
>>2457Gen 4 is a goddamn mess. Gen 3 wasn't much better in terms of "where the fuck does this guy fit then?" but Gen 4 is the pits as far as legendaries are concerned.Come to think of it, the only real upsides in general to Gen 4 are Cynthia, the fact one of the starters is a kung fu monkey that's eternally on fire, and Wi-Fi.
>>1751You can shut your goddamn mouth. The Birds were the first, and Zapdos and Articuno are still two of my favorite Pokemon designs (Moltres is just a Fearow on fire).
>>2461Moltres is GIANT CHICKEN! ON -FIRE-!...Which is really lame.
Honestly, to me, it makes total sense for there to be so many Legendaries. I mean, each region in the game is based loosely off one of the Japanese islands, right? So if it's sort of psuedo-Japan, then it's keeping in time with the idea of the hundreds-and-hundreds spirits of whatever in Shintoism. I mean, there's a god or spirit for damn near everything in Shintoism, right? So wouldn't it make sense for pokejapan to have a handful of legendaries, instead of just two or three, to compensate for this idea of multiple spirits?I dunno, it's 6AM, maybe I'm not making any sense...
>>2461>The Birds were the firstThat's pretty much all they have going for them in comparison. Well, Articuno and Zapdos do also look nice. But in comparison to the other Legendaries, the Bird Trio is honestly kind of lame.>>2459Stop thinking of Legendaries as a Pantheon. Outside of a select few, this is untrue; heck, until Gen III it was ENTIRELY untrue. Legendaries are just mythical, magical beasts of the land, the rare and important Pokemon of lore. They're not an organization of gods that control the Earth from the heavens.I loved Gen. IV, personally. Sure, it had its problems, as did every generation. But the general game and design is SO MUCH FUN.
ENTEI UP IN THIS MOTHERFUCKER
>>2481Raikou was here.Entei is a bro :3
>>2469In Gen II Ho-Oh raised the three legendary beasts from ashes, who then ran around the world creating whatever-the-hell they represent. And before that, in Gen I, Zapdos and Articuno created thunderstorms and blizzards, respectively (what the hell does Moltres do? Forest fires?). So Nurse is right to compare it to Japanese Shintoism, which doesn't have a Pantheon so much as a list of spirits and gods you can make requests of through their representatives (the Kimono Girls and the monks in Bell Tower). Think Catholic Saints.
>>2489 In moderation, forest fires are actually a good thing for forests. By burning dead wood from the forest floor, it provides ideal growing conditions for pioneer species of plants. As it turns out, Moltres is actually quite useful for the environment, but not so much in battle.
>>2496Groudon is so screwed.
>>2467
Why all the Moltres hate ITT?
>>2803He's just not as good as the other two Legendary Birds. He's got fantastic stats, but a small movepool. That and Ho-oh has him completely beaten at his own game.
>>2821Also he just looks plain derpity.
>>2823 He's meant to look like the Arabian concept of the phoenix, but he just ends up as a giant flaming chicken.I blame his coloring. If he had orange or white all over, he'd look better. Instead, it's a yellow body with red and pink flames.
>>2823ALL the Pokemon looked derpity in the first generation.
>>2848Oh, for sure. But Moltres doesn't really look all that great in the later generations or the Sugimori art.
Still waiting for the HG Unleashed scans.
>>2963Oh wait, I mean HS Unleashed.Duh.
>>2964Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuck I want this so bad.
>Prerelease scans are upYeah!>Only have scans of Raikou and EnteiDarn it!
And just this half of Raikou and Suicune. You know, the videos I watched of opening the Japanese packs suggested that you always got both halves in the same pack, but everything I've heard about the English packs suggest otherwise.
Oh wait, here we go!
The hell? Why does its face look like a Ninja Turtle?
>>3758Who's?
Oops. Sorry. I mean Suicune on >>3743 - his face looks like a beak or something. I got reminded of the live action Ninja Turtles for whatever reason.I dunno it's mostly a nice illustration but the faces of both Pokémon look off to me.
I'm still waiting for the legendary Pokemon that evolved into a man.
>>4108Ah didn't have no Chimchar for a granpappy!
>>4108Man evolved from mankey
>>4229At what level?
>>4233Moon Stone. Because aliens.
>>4473Jolteon and Vaporeon continued to be awesome. Flareon continued to fail.
>>4477 >Entei>failBut how does a Flareon die in a fire? Shouldn't it be fireproof?
>>4485He got better since they decided to give him Flare Blitz., but he's still inferior to Arcanine in almost every way. Especially now that Arcanine also has Morning Sun.
>>4485Fire resistant sure, but fire doesn't give you an immunity.Alternatively: It just failed that hard.
>>4487Flash Fire?
>>4622...that's a good point. I guess Flareon really did just fail that hard.Or maybe the rain that put out the fire did it?
>>4485smoke inhalation
Anyways, English leak of a card happened before the Japanese version!
