We tried to figure out how a female Cap would work in a +/co/ thread a while back, and we ended up with something like this:

Stephanie Rogers was a very patriotic girl who wanted to help her country very much. However, she is not content to do her part at home; she wants to be out there with the troops, fighting the Axis herself. So she disguises herself as a young man and tries to join the military, but since recruiting offices involve medical examinations and whatnot she is quickly discovered.

Meanwhile, government scientists are working on a chemical formula to enhance the human body to its pinnacle. However, even after years of research the serum still has one major flaw: because it requires a certain concentration of estrogen to react properly, it is useless if used on male soldiers.

At this point, the people involved with the project find out about the "Steve" Rogers incident and someone gets a bright idea: here they have a young woman who is not only devoted to her country but also moderately attractive with blond hair and blue eyes. They decide that, with the help of the serum, she would make the perfect mascot, capable of surviving on the battlefield while providing the men with morale boosts. So they injected Stephanie with the serum and gave her an appropriately showy costume, a symbolic yet functional signature weapon, and even a codename: Lady Liberty.

The original plan was for Lady Liberty to stay in the camp of whatever regiment she had been deployed with, engaging the enemy if necessary but never taking part in the big battles. However, with her enthusiasm still intact and her body empowered a dozen times over, Stephanie found herself routinely going above and beyond her intended role. Eventually, as both she and her superiors became more confident in her combat abilities, she gained a codename that carried much more weight: Captain America.

The rest is history: yada yada Red Skull yada yada frozen in ice yada yada Avengers yada yada lesbian subtext with Iron Woman.

You know, if Red Skull were still male, he'd very likely have a certain affection for the good Lady. After all, she's beautiful, powerful, and a devoted soldier. An Aryan superwoman, his perfect mate.

"Affection" is probably the wrong word for it, but I do remember something about him respecting Steve's superior genes. I think the same comic claimed that Hitler's spies had secretly manipulated the US into developing the supersoldier serum for their own uses.

But yeah, there would probably have been an issue or two where he tried to brainwash her into becoming his evil bride or something, but his main goal probably still would have been killing her.

Of course, if this really is Earth 63 or whatever then Red Skull would also be a woman. I guess she'd be like some sort of monstrous femme fatale? I don't want to think about that right now, especially because I'm not very fond of automatically sexifying genderbent characters (every other picture in this thread, for example).
