My Mandy model is experiencing some severe technical difficulties. So I started this little number.

Aside from eyelids what sort of things do you think I should add/remove?

I know it's an early draft development and all, but the face really REALLY needs a lot work. This is coming from someone who has never done a 3D model, and probably knows it;s hardass work. So don't take it the wrong way.

ever play a simpsons video game? they just wont translate into 3D. My source image comes from the simpsons handbook and is drawn by the official animators. What this reveals is that marge's head violates fundamental laws of perspective and form. which means i have to bullshit a lot. hopefully a snazzy texture and some softer lights will make her climb out of the uncanny valley.

I was wondering, which program are you using?
I downloaded Lightwave and 3D Studio Max ago, but haven't used them.
I've heard Fygomatic makes his renders on Lightwave, by modifying existing model templates...
I'm good at photorrealistic illustrations, so I've a good sense of lighting and anatomy, but it's a dead field for illustrations.
Is there any good tutorials you'd recommend for someone starting on Lightwave or 3D software?

If it took him months to do that then he should probably drop everything he's working on right now and find a shitload of youtube video tutorials for the next month or two.

Also, just want to throw this out there, Poser fucking sucks. No one should use Poser. You be lazy right out the gate and your results are bound to be nothing but crap.

And the Mandy model took me about 10 hours of actual work spread out over several months because i kept running into various technology issues that would make me rage quit maya for a few days.

dont go to youtube for tutorials. I'd suggest downloading Maya and getting your hands on the maya books. also try

did you look up Ratatoing on Youtube?
I am not familiar with 3D stuff, but you see how the real difference between a good render and a bad one is not even really the number of polys, but the lighting.

Bad 3D movies like Ratatoing have kind of a hard white light that makes everything look plastic, while good 3D movie have more natural, ambient-like lighting, improving the way things look, making them more 'alive' so to speak...
I am not sure if this is the right thing, again, I don't know how 3D rendering software manages stuff.

Oh, and use materials.

No.37145
The only experience I've had with 3D is creating content for a metaverse, making textures for pre-existing meshes. One trick to avoid the plastic look is to add a soft and blurred noise to the bitmap texture.
Also, with Simpson characters being originally 2D, that implies their 3D versions should have a matte surface with light sources surrounding them to avoid any harsh shadows.

Take a look at the MacFarlane Simpsons toy series and also this vid from the 1995 with the 3D animators from the Treehouse episode.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TKQ8Ilr6PgU&feature=related

Hope that helps.

That the chief problem with people who use poser. Those models are professionally built, rigged, and textured, but they light their scenes with a single harsh light that makes it look like it was filmed by 7th grade AV students.
