the One Piece world is obscenely good grounds for an mmo.

but is it really possible to make a decent one?

I've fantasised about making a One Piece game, where you could form a crew and have ADVENTURES throughout the one piece world.

I think capturing that Spirit of Adventure would be one of the most important parts of developing such a game.

No.8634
Japan doesn't really make manga-based MMOs, do they?

The only one I can think of at the moment is Ragnarok Online and that's Korean in the first place.

No.8637
/v/'s had a few really good threads on the subject though I don't know whether or not they've been archived.

The system they came up with for devil's fruit was one of my favorites.

That's a hell of a tease
Where would they be archived?

How so?

No.8640
You know, I was really tempted to make a thread on OCs, and then thought it'd be terrifically dumb and self serving.

Then this thread came up and made me feel less bad. I'd kill for an mmo you guys.

No.8642
Eh really not much for playing mmo's so would rather have some expansive sandbox-style game where you get to wander around living free on the wave's, maybe even having a choice deciding on if you want to raise a pirate flag or join up with the Marines.

It HAS one. As in present tense. Not sure if it's out in Japan yet, but I'm pretty sure Korea has it.

No.8649

It's been out in South Korea since February, but it's still TBA everywhere else, including Japan.

Which is kind of weird considering Toriyama is actually acting as a supervisor.

IF they were archived they'd be on 4chan archive, but part of me feels like they weren't, which is SUCH a pity, since the threads were crazy in depth.

>>8639

Its been a while so I don't remember too much but I remember they came up with a great way to deal with balancing out logias while still making them broken enough to invoke the feeling that the guy hit the jackpot in the power lottery.

They also came up with an idea for how to insure that if a fruit fell into the hands of someone didn't actually play that a certain time period (a month or two)would be allowed before the player was considered "dead" and the fruit was once again available as a random drop.

Hello everyone, I started those threads, and I looked through the archive all the way back to 2008. Apparently it was deleted. I'll post what I remember.
-boats customizable with a set-up screen like pictured(there was a better picture of this but I didn't save it)
-bounty system set up based on what you steal/who you kill(multiple killings of same lower level character warrants higher and higher bounty, higher bounty warrants more marines on your ass of a higher level eventually leading up to admirals coming after you)
-can be pirate/marine/bounty hunter
--Devil Fruits--
-powers gainable through a skill tree
-Devil Fruits had a sort of mana bar so stuff like the logia form can't be abused
-logia form works like so: eats up 2 mana a second regularly, if you're being attacked your mana takes 1/4 of the damage it would deal until it runs out.
-paramecia work like this: if you have a natural defence(buggy, luffy, mr.1) then you have a chance that it'll deflect those defences starting with 10%, upgradable up to 75%
-Zoans get a bonus for every stat instantly, of +5 for a base of eating the fruit with variable additions based on the type of animal you are. Like speed if you're a fast animal or strength if you're strong. Then those bonuses double when in half-animal form.

please feel free to ask questions cause i'm sure i'm forgetting alot and it would help me remember if you asked questions.

How would the game deal with DFs in general, not stat work, like the fact that one DF of the same kind can exist and you cant swim and stuff

No.8654
>>8653

we came up with two viable options for this.
1. all non-logias can be used by more than one person
2. we create lots and lots of devil fruits

how they're found:
floating in the ocean(2 per blue 10 per line) or very small chance of getting a map to a devil fruit from random enemy pirates(above level 20)

swimming stat so you can breath underwater longer(for saving devil fruit members) and go faster

No.8655
>>8652
>>8653
>>8654

Devil fruits aren't the be-all end-all to fighting, though. There's a lot of hefty non-devil fruit fighting styles, and now that we've got haki kicking around making a powerful character without ever finding a fruit would be viable.

No.8656
>>8655

right right, and also there are moves in every class to knock people back so you can throw them in the water if they have devil fruits, and you just naturally develop low level haki at a certain level, you can also get fishman karate once you reach fishman island, for a price.

Also, when you start you get the basics for each class, like a wooden sword, a slingshot, and fighting gloves. Also there are different buttons for kick/punch so you can train them seperately as stats, and when those stats get high enough you get special attacks for them.

No.8666
>>8654
That's not going to work. Paramecia's are too independent to work. Granted, you can have, say, 10 dog fruits, and make each a different skin with slightly differeng stats, but if you only limit logia's, and have 3 guys running around with the power of fear inducing farts, you've shat on canon.

Make lots of them. But not that many. Fruits are rare in universe, keep it that way. Lots of people won't put their points into haki, which means the guy who does have logia will be a powerhouse (though mana system and such does keep him from being godmode) untill he runs into the guy with haki, or in appropriate cases, somebody who has his weakness.

No.8669
>>8656
Having upgradable/customizable weapons would help. Everyone has a unique fighting style in One Piece, so instead of switching to a stronger-but-different weapon as you level up players could base their stat-building around their particular weapon, ending up with a personalized weapon like Nami's Clima-tact or a build based on something odd like Zoro's three swords.

Balancing that mess would be hell, though.

No.8671
>>8666

well, naturally zoans would be a big help in expanding the devil fruits, and paramecium and logia aren't TOO hard to figure stuff out for. But yeah, OP of the original thread here again, I always supported that fruits be a big bonus, but not something EVERYONE can strive for. My original idea for finding fruits was 10 randomly placed fruits(in the water only) throughout the ENTIRE One Piece world, per month, and they just sit there unless set in a current then they float around. After a month the remaining devil fruits disappear and reappear elsewhere with different powers. So it's fair to everyone playing, not just people on the grand line.

But I did like the treasure map idea having a chance of including a devil fruit.

No.8672
>>8671
oh, and the premise was that it was set in the future so stuff like the clima tact, rumble balls was available for everyone(naturally clima tact would be only available for people who chose the 'navigator' job in the beginning), and also all the characters are dead that we know.

Now, swords work like this
get to level 10 with one-handed->option to start training with two-handed->get to 10 with two-handed and 20 with one-handed->option to start training with three swords

also, to make it a bit easier on them 30% of your exp for two-handed goes to one-handed.

No.8714
I would prefer a single player RPG. Maybe with multiplayer reminiscent to Borderlands.

No.8737
>>8714
Same.

So an important part of any game like these would be the importance of the crew, nakama and all that, making them all useful for more than just thier combat skills
Having a good navigator helps you avoid damage while travelling on the Grandline and generally speeds up sail travel, carpenter/shipwright repairs your boat faster, Cook...makes delicious food...which can give characters stat buffs?

>Cook...makes delicious food...which can give characters stat buffs?

Or prevent them from having lowered stat do to hunger or morale do to having to eat really crappy food.

See, this is what I love about One Piece, and that's the very subtle forward momentum we had with technology. We started off in the East Blue going "Oh, they have a magic snail that talks, but otherwise it's fairly 16th century tech." Then Whiskey Peak threw revolvers and shit at us and we didn't even notice. It's been slowly feeding us more and more without us realizing until Water 7 showed up with its fucking water trains and cyborgs and we realized "Well, fuck, Oda's world is nuts."

No.8749
>>8747
It's gonna be a less subtle forward momentum when Vegapunk happens, haha

No.8750
>>8745
Yeah, but that's explained to be with the snails and various other bits of steampunk or biopunk, and most of the weirder technology isn't very widely distributed. Who makes those fridges?

>>8747
Well, like I said, most of the weirder stuff is either used exclusively by the government (which they don't share) or at least limited to the Grand Line. Who in the East Blue could make a refrigerator?

alvida's fruit - gives you a certain chance to take lesser/avoid damage from certain kinds of attacks
