That sounds very possible, though I personally like the theory that Law used his powers to transplant human vocal chords into Bepo, either as a favor or just for the fun of it. Also keep in mind that most animals in the OP world have some degree of sapience and that some individuals exhibit exceptionally human behavior (i.e. the bear from Drum Island and Pappug the sea star).

Actually, I'm starting to think Garp left them with Dadan on purpose. He's starting to look less like he's doing stupid things for stupid reasons, and more trying he's trying to scare them away from the Marines. What this means for Luffy's ties to the Revolutionaries, though, I have no idea.

All I'm saying is, there was another D we wrote off as silly last time. Then that same character started a war, used the commotion to break into Impel Down and boslter his crew, got the son of the last Pirate King killed, as well as a Yonkou, cut the Marines reach in the Grand Line effectively in half, and got his hands on not one, but two of the most powerful devil fruits out there.

Garp is just doing what he thinks is right. It almost seems like after the death of Roger and battling Shiki, Garp just sort of went into semi-retirement to look after Ace and Luffy.

I'm sure he wanted them to grow up to be Marines, but ultimately he just wants them to follow their hearts.

Hell, if Garp and Sengoku are still around by the end of the series I can only imagine what their response to Luffy punching everyone marginally important will be.

Elaborate. I get how the flashback explains why he got over getting spit on, but how is it driving him to constantly pester Ace when Ace clearly shows he doesn't want Luffy around? I'd understand if Ace did something Luffy thought was particularly cool, or if Luffy had learned that Ace wanted to be a pirate... but Luffy didn't learn about the pirate thing until after getting caught by Ace and Sabo. I understand Luffy is supposed to be rock-stupid and extremely determined to get his way, but every other time in the past he started to nonstop pester somebody he's had a good reason for wanting them on his crew. I don't see where that happened with Ace.
