So Nami has apparently no problems playing soccer with a flaming spiked iron ball? You go, girl!

Shiki you sure do know a good image to capture my attention.

Luffy ;_______;

Dadan's a WHAAAAAAAAT

Wait.

Does he even know Whitebeard is dead? I assume so.

No.6823
Holy shit, I fucking teared up. I haven't in the manga since Luffy got separated from the strawhats...

I'd probably be a ball of sadness if it weren't for Law's crew being amusing.

No.6824

He passed out before WB died though

No.6825
I am pleased with how Luffy's emotional state is being handled, it's real sorrow.

Those three faces he made, Brilliant.

I don't really think he even cares with Ace dead.

No.6827
I'm hoping that the flashbacks will inject some much needed happy back into this comic

The Colorspread and this cover both help and hurt that.

Oh god Luffy noooooo ;_;

ugh I feel so bad for him I'm gonna have to stare at the color spread for like ten minutes to make myself feel better.

No.6832
Oh, poor Luffy.

I'm rather torn on Ace's death, to be honest. On the one hand, had Luffy saved Ace, it would have been his greatest triumph in the series to date, maybe that he would ever have. And I'm getting kind of tired of Luffy failing. That's what, three arcs straight he's utterly screwed up? It'd be nice to have a triumph in there somewhere.

On the other hand, if Ace was saved... where would he go? His logical character arc was over. If he went on his own or with WB, he'd just be running away forever with noting to gain. If he went with Luffy, he'd unbalance the crew and probably make Luffy really angsty about his dream because he just learned Ace was the intended Pirate King. A live Ace is a loose end.

Does /op/ see my dilemma?

No.6835
I just realized that every time nami hits luffy and hurts him, she's using haki.

yeah, but I think Luffy's failing will turn out good for him, he's REALLY growing from this.

>>6835
Nah, Nami gain +100,000 Damage against all Straw Hats as a Comedy boost.

No.6838
>>6837
He is, and thankfully it seems to be the good sort of growth (determination and genuine sorrow) than the bad kind (wangst, which a lot of people were scared of).

Though I am somewhat concerned that the power scale is getting a bit off, a la Yu Yu Hakusho. I, for one, would rather have Luffy make it in the New World on the strength of himself and his crew, not because Boa or Jimbei or Law hand-held him through. This isn't a complaint about the story, though; even with this minor flaw, YYH remained enjoyable to the end, and I'm confident OP will, too.

No.6839

She uses the same Fist of Love that Garp uses.

No.6840
>>6838
Isn't a young puunk like Luffy being able to beat all the strongest people, far more experianced, people in the world a worse one?
He threw himself into an over the top situation that was clearly above his level, it's amazing he made it as far as he did and survived at all.

No.6841
Does anyone else find it REALLY HILARIOUS that Garp, thinking that Shanks and his father was a bad influence, decided to raise Luffy with a convicted mob boss?

No.6842
>>6841
Garp does not always think things through.

Also, I hope this flashback also shows how Luffy returned to the village. It's possible that he and Ace had to escape.

No.6843
>>6830
What the hell is Naruto wearing?

No.6844
>>6843
Agrabah Prince.

No.6845
>>6832
The escape from Impel Down was one of his big successes. Even if we did lose Bon-chan, Luffy and the other escaped convicts did what nobody else before them did: bust out of Impel Down.

>>6840
This brings up a point that I am worried about: Luffy's strength/powerlevel. We all know that Luffy is the strongest Strawhat, and always will be. I just hope that this doesn't turn into Dragonball Z, with Gok-I mean Luffy being 100x stronger than the other original protagonists, and them becoming so much weaker. That's also the reason I am not too positive about this haki business.

No.6846
>>6845
If anything Zoro will at least keep up with him. He's gotta be able to give Mihawk a good match someday.

No.6847
>>6845
As long as Luffy's power levels are mostly measured by the powers of his fruit and not Haki, I'll be happy.

Possibly deal with a way for Luffy to make a parallel to the vulcanization process of rubber creation, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vulcanization which involves injecting curatives such as Sulfur to make the Rubber more durable, as with car tires and such.

No.6848
>>6845
The characters are all off on specialized training missions. The balance will be as it always was.

Captain needs his crew, after all.

No.6849
>>6845
This can't become like DBZ, Luffy said it himself to Arlong.
All he can do is fight, he can't use swords, or navigate a ship, or cook~ Without his crew he's nothing

No.6850
>>6832

Well, I agree that Ace would probabaly have unbalanced the crew, but I don't think Luffy gives a damn about who's "supposed" to be the pirate king or whatever. He already knew that Ace was Gol D. Roger's son, right? And he's not big on the concept of fate or destiny.

No.6852
so we finally get to see his moma

No.6853
>>6852
Adopted mother

No.6854
>>6853
Bah, they're all children of the sea!

No.6855
>>6852
Wait, so does that mean that Dadan is who Oda was talking about in that one SBS?

No.6856
So who actually spawned Luffy?

More importantly, who did Garp spawn with?

No.6858
>>6856
Well, we know Dragon's his dad, and there's TONS of guesses about who Luffy's mom is. I think I remember Oda saying something about her being vain about her appearance or something, but besides that he's not said much about her. Whether it's going to be a major factor, or Oda's just keeping the name private to make it seem more mysterious, like with Ace's mom. (All that was really revealed in that was she was a D too.)

No.6859
>>6858
I think Oda said that Luffy's mom was alive and well, but he did not plan and kind of appearance.

No.6860
>>6845
>This brings up a point that I am worried about: Luffy's strength/powerlevel. We all know that Luffy is the strongest Strawhat, and always will be.
I believe Oda's creativity will win out in the end.
Probably in the form of a new Gear that can only be performed after Gear 2nd and 3rd that makes Luffy super lean and super dense... kinda like Frieza's final form...
Speed, Strength and Invulnerability, the one thing he lacks at his current level.

The Haki will probably just be used as a catalyst that allows him to push past the limits of normal fruit use, or something.

No.6861
>>6853
still she is the one who raised him.

No.6862
I figured that Luffy's mother was a lover of sorts to Dragon. Oda said that she isn't important to the story.

No.6864
>>6845
Which in turn brings up another point: What would be /op/'s reaction if the crew got a person STRONGER than Luffy?

No.6866
>>6864
As long as the book is still good, I don't give a shit who the strongest strawhat is.

No.6874
>>6864
As things stand it's debatable, Franky is at least as strong as he is with a MASSIVE advantage in Water and Zoro has been clearly growing in Strength with Luffy, Sanji is on roughly Zoro level.

So if you think about it, it likely wouldn't be much of a difference.

No.6888
>>6862

Well, that's not entirely accurate:

The Dec. 2009 issue of Shonen Jump USA has an interview with Oda and in it someone asks about Luffy's mother. Oda said he was still thinking her up, but that she was tough looking, strict and in no way a beautiful mother. She has a typical middle aged woman's perm, apparantly.

No.6889
>>6888
And if I remember correctly, he stated that she is alive, but he's not sure if she's going to appear yet.

No.6894
>>6888

Ah, ok. I read it a while ago and didn't remember the specifics.

Though that description does fit Dadan well.

No.6897
I did like that idea Dr. Nurse had of Luffy's mom, a ultra-strict Marine Vice-Admiral whose divorce from Monkey D. Dragon partly led to the creation of the Revolutionaries.

No.6971
>>6897
YEAH I DID TOO but once again oda stomps all over any idea I might have had alas. ;~;

No.6972
>>6971
Well, not entirely. The name just doesn't work anymore.

No.6974
>>6972

And she won't be QUITE as milf-tastic as Nurse made her.
