While some wonder where Estonia will draw its future workforce from, a leading public intellectual has returned to another theme that has haunted Estonians: the possibility of becoming a minority in their own land.Andrei Hvostov plumbed an even darker extreme on the TV program "Vabariigi kodanikud," saying that Estonians could face the same fate as some 20th century minorities if Muslim immigration to Europe continues. He said that it was a symptom of a crowding syndrome, a sense of panic he suffered from. "I have the feeling Islam is pressing in on us and we can't do anything against it," said Hvostov. Hvostov said that he feared those who come to Europe from the Middle East and Africa as, in his words, they come from a political culture where Hitler's Mein Kampf can be printed and where Nazi leaders are still commonly praised. "As far as I know, in classrooms in Germany with a discernible Muslim element, the German teachers have real trouble broaching the topic of the Holocaust and Nazism," said Hvostov.
